turn ur left over Thanksgiving mashed taters into gnocchi… YUM.

Did I Say That Out Loud November 29, 2019 at 10:33 PM

GREAT idea ! IF I had leftover taters ! My family loves the day after Thanksgiving better than the actual day …. the leftovers get hoovered in an instant. But you planted the idea to make some gnocchi this week.

S November 30, 2019 at 8:27 AM

I hide some aside just for that… Fried mashed (a bit crispy) the next morning with 2 over easy is really good too.

And here all you people may have thought that I only eat BBQ… 😉

Silva November 30, 2019 at 9:45 AM

I’ve never made gnocchi. I can’t think if I’ve ever eaten gnocchi either. Hmm.. something to try! For now, potato pancakes for breakfast🙂

Cowellian’s First.
I must still be in a turkey coma, I forgot that this was Friday.

Dorothy November 29, 2019 at 8:07 PM

Was happy to finally turn off the outside water. Now I’ll wait for the last of leaves to come down to clean up the back yard. That should be in a day or two.

KAD November 29, 2019 at 9:39 PM

No one had to chance to do a Last or were too busy out shopping. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving.

Mike November 29, 2019 at 10:31 PM

Be the change you want to see in Concord

S November 30, 2019 at 8:29 AM

I doubt the city leaders will pay much attention to the online survey about what we want for the next top cop; but at least they will get some insight to many peoples thoughts. Take the survey anyway……….

Gittyup November 30, 2019 at 2:31 PM

Okay. I’m a new library and a youth recreation center,

qwerty November 30, 2019 at 6:44 AM

The new picture of Bubs (adoptable cat is the sidebar) is a big improvement from the previous pic.

Gittyup November 30, 2019 at 7:36 PM

Yes, it’s a good shot of Bubs and he is quite handsome.

Antler November 30, 2019 at 9:22 PM

Querty, that’s a super nickname you’ve chosen for Claycord!!! 💥

Ricardoh November 30, 2019 at 8:31 AM

Does anyone remember the name of the lumber co that sat where Nob Hill Foods now sits in the Citrus center?

Justifiable languor November 30, 2019 at 10:56 AM

Burton’s lumber.

Gittyup November 30, 2019 at 11:16 AM

Was it Dolan’s?

Justifiable languor November 30, 2019 at 12:33 PM

Dolans was on Monument, now on Arnold (side street that follows HWY 4)

The Fearless Spectator November 30, 2019 at 1:21 PM

Burton’s French Lumber

Ricardoh December 1, 2019 at 8:35 AM

Thanks, I knew the name French was in there somewhere. I forgot the Burton’s. Thank you again.

My orange crop could sure use some nice warm and sunny weather to ripen all those still rather green and hard oranges. Only cold, rainy days forecast for the next ten days or so.

John P November 30, 2019 at 6:14 PM

You should read up on the orange ripening process. It’s the cold weather that causes the tree to stop pumping chlorophyll into the fruit peel, causing them to turn orange. Ripening continues in the cold. Too much water can cause the peels to split, which is my biggest worry when it rains. The variety determines when the fruit will ripen. My Washington navel ripens in March and April, nearly a year after the fruit sets. Some varieties are ready after 8 months; others after 15.

Doh December 1, 2019 at 9:13 AM

My small tree has been splitting the oranges open for the last few years. So I cut back on vitamin and watering it as suggested but it is still splitting the oragnges open. Any ideas?

Justifiable languor December 1, 2019 at 11:22 AM

This year a squirrel ate every last one of my oranges. They were green and smaller than pecans. Some of the bark is stripped off as well. I am not fond of squirrels. I am no longer concerned when I see them sleeping in the street or at the curb. They don’t move, even if I honk. Lazy buggers.

nytemuvr December 1, 2019 at 1:03 PM

@Justifiable languor… An old fashion Daisy BB pump rifle would take care of your problem…and as a bonus squirrels fry up pretty well!

justifiable languor December 1, 2019 at 1:24 PM

nytemver, 😋

Dr. Jellyfinger December 1, 2019 at 2:32 PM

They ate unripe oranges?
Are you sure it was squirrels?
Roof rats might be to blame… I’d double check….
we don’t want to see another Ox Bow incident.
Don’t be a John Bobbitt !

Justifiable languor December 2, 2019 at 10:41 AM

Hang on there JF. The squirrels are safe, the opossums are safe and apparently so are all the other visitors that may cruise through. My experience with rats and mice is copious black rice (scat) left behind wherever they feed. Thankfully I have not seen that.

I wish the neighbors would quit feeding the stray cats.

Sick of it November 30, 2019 at 9:28 AM

Has anyone else noticed how bad everyone’s driving skills have gotten lately Seems in the last few months more people have forgotten what speed limits in residential areas is and that stop signs mean Stop completely, don’t just slow down to 20mph. We all have complained about bad driving, so let’s start with our own bad behavior behind the wheel.

Justifiable languor November 30, 2019 at 11:07 AM

Yesterday I almost rammed a sedan that stopped suddenly on Galindo (where the Thai restaurant used to be) , to let a passenger out. Right in the middle of ongoing traffic. Granted it was clear to the right but still, it was NOT a place to off load.

The Fearless Spectator November 30, 2019 at 1:38 PM

Poor skills aside, I would be happy just to see traffic laws obeyed.

I wish parents would tell their teenage drivers that when they cut people off, they better make sure the other driver won’t catch them at the next light. You may get away with it in Walnut Creek, but try that in Alameda County and you better be ready for trouble. Is it worth it?

Roz November 30, 2019 at 3:09 PM

Yep,….someone, by inches, missed hitting us changing lanes to ours just a few hours ago. Then on the same road, someone taking a left off a side street,…us a another driver had to stop quickly to not T-bone the car crossing across the lanes. But yes, it seem to be getting worse every week.

Gittyup December 1, 2019 at 6:53 AM

It’s like the genius with the sandwich on BART, individuals behaving as if the rules don’t apply to them. Nine times out of ten they get away with it, so they do it again, and again. Other people see them doing it and think they can get away with it, too. And, so on. Before long a majority is ignoring the rule. Eventually, the rule is no longer enforceable and fades into obscurity … whether it was meaningful or not. How often do you see someone pulled over for a traffic stop?

Anon December 1, 2019 at 1:27 PM

It’s also a sign of a Lack of Policing. I guess the Police will need a Grant to Police. Very sad.

I’ve called Concord PD and while they acknowledged that fully Tinted Windshields are ILLEGAL…..they don’t have the resources to do anything about it. This is Unacceptable.

Regarding people stopping in the middle of the road to drop someone off, some of this crap is out of area Uber Lyft drivers…….You people need to do your part and HONK your horns. Same goes with those watching a youtube video and missing a light…..Blast them with your Horn!!!

RANDOM TASK November 30, 2019 at 11:32 AM

Hey sick of it
The city council has hindered and suppressed police presence
Used to be police all over the place
Patrols and speed traps to keep it safe
And actually arresting criminals

But then socialist sanctuary took over and the feeble minds let the city council dictate our lives and safety

We see the results as they proceed to worsen and tested into more over zealous criminals and illegal activity

You wanted this and voted for it

No complaining now

Oh and leave your vehicles unlocked so you don’t have to replace your windows every week

HAPPY SANCTUARY COMMUNIST SOCIALIST HOLLIDAYS

John P November 30, 2019 at 6:03 PM

Wouldn’t it be great if the Concord/Clayton community could once again tune in to a broadcast of the local police radio traffic? We used to be able to do this, but the Broadcastify link has been deleted. It’s a 24/7 requirement for whoever has the scanner and that demand probably is too onerous for most citizens. I’d get a scanner, but the reviews I’ve read indicate one needs expertise to program them properly.

Badger December 1, 2019 at 11:01 AM

Most police channels are not encrypted. Antioch police is the only encrypted one in this area. You’ll need a digital scanner to get most of them. I have a Uniden Homepatrol 2. It’s very easy to setup. Just enter a zip code and it will program all the radios for that area. When scanning it displays the name of each agency it stops on. It runs on AC and has a battery backup. In Reno and Las Vegas it picks up all the police, fire, airport and casino traffic. Everything from security to housekeeping. You have to filter some of that out. Las Vegas Metro is encrypted but North Vegas is not. In our area some of the police and fire I listen to are Concord, Walnut Creek, Martinez, Pleasant Hill, CC Sheriff, Alameda Sheriff, Oakland, Vallejo and BART.

Now then….. re: “Worst bands of the 80’s” The official list compiled by Neil Portnow, President of The Recording Academy …….

Giddyup December 2, 2019 at 10:36 PM

I sort of liked that song.

Justifiable languor December 3, 2019 at 6:42 AM

Some of the songs I hated back then have become nostalgic now. Kind funny.

Dr. Jellyfinger December 3, 2019 at 7:32 AM

Geez Gittyup!
That takes all the fun out of “Rick Rolling” people.

Gittyup December 5, 2019 at 4:01 PM

@Jellyfinger Ok, you got me! Happy now? Just you wait.

Stop look and listen December 2, 2019 at 12:39 AM

And then there are songs that are still as bad today as they were back then. Where do I start?
Jesse’s girl
That pina colada song
Anything by Dr hook, or steel and vocal band
Dead skunk thing
Muskrat love. embarrassed for them
That loving you is easy cause your beautiful painful mess.
There should be a graveyard for these.

Giddyup December 2, 2019 at 10:45 PM

Oh, loved Rick Springfield’s Jesse’s Girl. And, Dr. Hook, “Such A Night,” just way cool!

Anon December 4, 2019 at 5:24 PM

All of the times we hear Police tell us that they believe the crime is not gang related………today FBI & Concord PD arrested 15 gang members connected to several shootings including the Hwy 4 shootings.

CLAYCORD.com December 4, 2019 at 5:44 PM

They were arrested in 2016. The last of the 15 were sentenced today.

Recycler December 5, 2019 at 4:26 PM

Having problems signing on to Mt. Diablo Resource Recovery’s online bill pay. Is the site down? Anyone else having issues with online payment of your garbage bill?
