Parada Restaurant, located at 7001 Sunne Lane (just off Treat Blvd. near the Pleasant Hill BART station) in Walnut Creek, was closed for the second time in less than a month on Monday after inspectors from the Contra Costa County Health Department say they found the following.

  • 1 live cockroach observed on wall to the right of the ice machine.
  • 1 live cockroach observed in middle of floor at entrance to bar area.
  • 1 live cockroach was observed between ceviche prep and cook line.
  • 1 dead cockroaches was observed on wall in bar area.
  • 1 dead cockroach observed on floor under dish machine.
  • 10 lbs of fresh clams were stored immersed in standing water inside the walk-in refrigerator. No shell stock tag was stored with the clams and no shell stock tags are on file at facility.
  • Multiple hand sinks blocked from use with large trash cans.
  • Employees unable to demonstrate food safety knowledge applicable to assigned duties including:
    a) Proper setup of hand sinks.
    b) Proper hot and cold holding temperatures of perishable foods.
    c) Proper cooling methods for cooked foods.
    d) Proper storage of in-use wiping cloths.
    e) Proper storage of live shell stock (clams).

The restaurant was previously closed due to a cockroach infestation on Oct.11. They reopened following an inspection a few days later.

I would imagine the couple hundred bucks a month it would cost to hire professional pest control is a lot less than the business they lose from having to close for health violations…

Cornish & Carey handle this property.

Must be a very small profit margin.

I’ll bet his rent is $10K per month.

I get that. But that doesn’t disprove anything I said. Obviously their business is going to suffer tremendously because they gambled on never getting caught.

Like I said the first time this place closed, from the day this place opened it’s gone downhill except for its prices! GROSS just GROSS!

Sunne Lane is in unincorporated Walnut Creek and fully under the jurisdiction of Contra Costa County.

All restaurants in the Contra Costa County are fully under the jurisdiction of the County. The inspections are done by Environmental Health.

We are very sorry this happened, and are taking immediate action with our management team and staff to address the situation, including: steam cleaning all of the appliances, re-training our team, and conducting frequent deep cleanings of the entire restaurant in partnership with our sanitation vendor. Everything cited by the health department is being permanently remedied. Parada is a proud member of the Walnut Creek restaurant community and we hope to earn back your trust.

You could earn back our trust by doing those things last month when you were shut down the first time. Best of luck, I won’t be back! Gross.

I agree with Jack. It shouldn’t take a second shut down to show you that you have a problem. These problems should have been “permanently remedied” the first time! You’re lack of attention to cleanliness will probably cost you your business. Good luck!

Hey, we were in a few months ago and loved it. Thanks for the response – we’ll be back even if others won’t (though I suspect these people never would have come anyway).

How can we find out who the County Health Inspector was that inspected the institution and either passed or failed the restaurant? This should be public information.

Sign from Above November 6, 2019 - 8:40 AM - 8:40 AM

Why? Are you going to go and inspect his/her house? Fact is, the issues were found. That aside, the report is public record. You can go down to the health department and request it, albeit you may have to go through the public records act process.

Do a search under the “CLAYCORD Restaurant Inspection” link on the upper right of this web page.

PH Guy November 6, 2019 - 9:43 AM - 9:43 AM

The County Website has copies of the inspection reports with the inspectors name.

princess November 5, 2019 - 7:46 PM - 7:46 PM

Thank you health department, job well done.

Twice? Yuck

Good management, daily a proper maintenance program is the key here. Which this place lacks of… all of the above
Overpriced, too loud, not too clean and shady clientele: we stopped going here a while back.

Jeff November 6, 2019 - 10:23 AM - 10:23 AM

Jorge,

Nice try at an apology. Twice in one month, I’ll never set foot in your restaurant. My best idea is for you to close and reopen in another location with another name.

Beware! Here is the link from their website to the other restaurants they own. http://paradakitchen.com/about-us/our-restaurants/
We used to really like the food here but most likely won’t be going back. And yes @HooHaa we WOULD have come back, but not after the second closure.
