Concord Police should find out from Clayton PD how to stop auto burglaries since they never have any.

Clayton has very different demographics than Concord.

Maybe people in Clayton are wise enough not to leave anything in their car. It really is that simple, and it has very little to do with demographics. Vehicle burglary happens everywhere, but it’s a crime of opportunity. Nothing left in the car, nothing to steal.

It’s not as simple as taking stuff out of your car. They will smash a window just to check and see if anything is there. Always blame the victim. Ridiculous as always

Only 20? The thieves must be resting up for Black Friday.

Someone just broke into the back of my SUV at Clayton Safeway yesterday morning around 5:20am. I had stopped there and was in the store maybe 5 minutes. It was dark outside, and you couldn’t see into the back of my SUV as all back windows are tinted. Also, there’s a pull over cover. Someone smashed the glass, lifted the cover and stole a duffle bag. There is nothing of any great value in my car and it’s 15 years old.

So yes, auto burglaries do happen in Clayton and even if they can’t see into the car.

I reported the burglary to the Clayton Police.

What I do recall about yesterday, there was a car that tailgated me into Clayton Safeway, whom I thought was going to Starbucks but continued on. It was an older dark red car but it looked like it headed towards the Sweet Affair bakery. I drove a few isles in, and parked close to the entrance opposite a small white car, that was gone when I exited Safeway. That white car, I believe was driven by a tall guy with blond hair wearing a blue shirt that I passed me as I was entering the store. There was another car about 8 spaces away from me, which had someone sitting inside. I normally see people sitting in cars there in the morning as employees are coming in and going around that time. There was the usual gathering of employees in the lounge area across from the Starbucks inside Safeway. Also, I recall an older man who had a beard and was walking with a bicycle, that looked like he was homeless– although I don’t know for sure, who I saw as I left the store. He was wearing baggy clothes.

Whatever happened, happened quick, and I suspect whomever did it, saw me enter the store.

Burglaries happen everywhere.

Said it before and I’ll say it again, my car was broken into five or six times with absolutely nothing in it in a patrolled lot. They pried the radio out of the dash, twice. One time I hadn’t gotten it fixed yet and there were only wires sticking out of the hole in the dash where the radio had been. The other times, the radio was gone and there was nothing to take … absolutely nothing. And, you could see there was nothing just by looking in the windows. It may help to have nothing visible left in your car, but not much.
