Dr. Jellyfinger September 13, 2019 at 7:24 PM

She put a bookmark on “Goofus & Gallant” LoL!

Silva September 13, 2019 at 7:51 PM

First or 5th?

Dorothy September 13, 2019 at 8:20 PM

Too hot for me! Heard there might be some showers on Monday. If any come my way I think I’ll go out in dance in it.

No book report this time, still in the reading process.

Dawg September 13, 2019 at 9:31 PM

There is a full moon out tonight and it’s Friday the 13th.
This rare event will not occur again until August 13, 2049.

Simonpure September 14, 2019 at 12:23 PM

The Greek Festival is so much fun!

Justifiable languor September 14, 2019 at 5:20 AM

Tell us. Please?

S September 14, 2019 at 9:05 AM

I’ve been to one in Novato and one in Vallejo. Both were fundraisers for their greek orthodox church; which I am not greek nor orthodox… Have friends that are and invited me. Good food & music and dancing demonstrations…. Was a good time….

Justifiable languor September 15, 2019 at 6:57 AM

I love a good story S. Thanks. I was captivated by the movie Zorba the Greek as a child. The dancing looked fun. And the food!

S September 15, 2019 at 10:52 AM

don’t know if you partake in adult beverages, but if you go to such a festival and if they have Raki, give it a try…. Just a little taste will do ya’

Holy Moly!

Justifiable languor September 15, 2019 at 1:41 PM

Only occasionally these days. I will am more likely to have a glass of Kombucha. Lol. At .05 alcohol content it is euphoric for other reasons.

Anise flavor is interesting. It might be tasty in a cookie. Ouzo used to be a thing in the 70s.

Concordejet September 14, 2019 at 12:15 PM

Does anybody else think it’s strange that in the adoptable pets ad on the left side of this column lists a cat’s head as an adoptable pet?

Cat’s name is “Bubs”

He must have like the smallest cat body on Earth.

Gittyup September 14, 2019 at 6:10 PM

Bubs is crouching which throws the head further forward than normal. In a straight on photo like that it puts his head closer to the lens obscuring his body. This shot, however, highlights his gorgeous eyes. Bubs is 11 years old and a special needs cat. He’s a beauty. He looks a bit perplexed in this shot. But, have no fear. I’ve seen other photos of him and he has a good-looking body attached to that head. He looks like a sweetheart.

S September 14, 2019 at 6:17 PM

Gittyup September 14, 2019 at 7:43 PM

He could also be “loafing,” making like a loaf of bread with his legs all tucked in, which would do the same thing putting his head unusually close to the camera. He’s very cute, nevertheless. I can’t have any more cats or I’d go get him. He looks like a love.

Mary Fouts September 14, 2019 at 5:59 PM

Allergies and Asthma – It’s been a bad summer lately if you have either. Parked my car in driveway after errands this afternoon. It’s now speckled with both pollen from the cedar redwood trees and fallen ash. The Honeywell HEPA air purifiers we purchased this summer have really helped a lot with inside air quality in our home. Not noisy either.

Original G September 14, 2019 at 6:41 PM

After seeing this article am glad we’re not using windows 10.
‘Microsoft’s Latest Windows 10 Patch Breaks Start Menu, Desktop Search’

Dewey's Mom September 14, 2019 at 7:57 PM

@Dr Jellyfinger,
Funny that you should mention the cat’s lack of a body, I was a wee bit shaken though I knew that he was alive and well, I actually thought that his picture was taken as his head popped out of a box?!
“Bubs” is a lovely mate, I can tell!

P.S. This IPad constantly tries to outthink me, if I did not know better, I would believe it to be “possessed”!

Captain Bebops September 15, 2019 at 9:31 AM

Fry’s Electronics was in the news again last week. Seems they’re switching to consignments. We’ll see how that goes. I wish them well as being it tech it was the go-to place for me. Maybe they can add a Olive Garden in each place to bring in more business. 🙂

S September 15, 2019 at 10:46 AM

can I sell my old socks there?

Captain Bebops September 15, 2019 at 4:17 PM

Probably only new electronic socks.

Kirkwood September 16, 2019 at 4:13 PM

Nice shower this morning, .2″ in my rain gauge. Washed the dust from the trees, shrubs and buildings. A lot of gunk floating on the water in the streets.

Mary Fouts September 16, 2019 at 4:20 PM

Kirkwood – The air just smelled so good after the shower! Got .06 in at my weather station in south PH. So cute this morning to see a young girl with rainboots on, outside with her dad jumping in puddles.

Mary Fouts September 16, 2019 at 4:17 PM

Donating old eyeglasses – Thanks to everyone who chimed in on this topic a while back. A belated follow-up to let you all know that all Lenscrafters locations accept old prescription eyeglasses, reading glasses, and sunglasses, which are given to the Lions Club vision program.

I recently got an exam with Dr. Gee, and 3 new pairs of glasses at Lenscrafters in PH. Excellent service. Dr. Carole Gee, OD gave me the best eye exam I’ve ever had; she is a very kind person. If you don’t have vision insurance (I don’t), Lenscrafters has ongoing in-store coupons and other promos to help with the eyeglass cost. I saved a lot.

Mary Fouts September 16, 2019 at 5:19 PM

Water Main Break in PH – Just got PHPD alert, water main break at southbound PH Road and Gemco court. Neighborhood residents will be without water for approx. 10 hours … ugh! PH Road may be shut down during the fix.

Dr. Jellyfinger September 17, 2019 at 3:51 AM

Insomnia sucks!
Anyhow…. since I’m up…

I’m just dying to find some opening, any reason at all to use the newest buzz word/term “woke”.

I’m seeing it everywhere now and I gotta jump on that bandwagon of “woke” users! …. but it’s like I’ve got writers block all of a sudden & can’t figure a way to work it into a sentence without being too anxious or obvious.

I shouldn’t even bother.

It can’t last too long…. like “hella” remember that one?
The chopped version for “a hell of alot”
I think overuse was what killed it.
Everyone was saying it so much it was ridiculous… and after awhile it lost that laid back, lackadaisical charm and wasn’t so much of a cool word anymore.
It transitioned into a coarse, lazy word that conjured up an image of a dull minded, porch ridden Redneck, slurring out his Budweiser fueled, ex con “thots on thangs”….. that was hella years ago.

Thankfully… nobody says it anymore.

“Triggered” is fading fast now.
Hardly anyone is saying “Oh Snap!” anymore.
“Channeling” isn’t nearly so popular as it once was.
“You Go Girl” …went.
I know there are a bunch of others.
In a few weeks “woke” will quietly go back to sleep… and I think I can probably do that now too.

Silva September 17, 2019 at 8:30 AM

Dr. Jellyfinger, I completely agree, insomnia totally sucks. I have to have help with it. I take 1/2 a melatonin (the pills have 3x too much for one dose) and one of these; (two work even better), plus my prescription anti-convulsive downers before I can even think about closing my eyes. I went from a person who the first 1/2 of my life could sleep through a train passing through the next room, to not being able to fall or stay asleep for longer than 40 minutes. Just because you can’t sleep doesn’t mean you’re not exhausted. Alexa can play you nice soothing music, too. Forget woke, it’s been mainstream for some time.

Dr. Jellyfinger September 17, 2019 at 10:54 PM

Thanks Silva….Valerian Root…. I think I heard that mentioned by Doctor McCoy in a Star Trek movie… I’ll give it a try.
It’s got to work better than beer….. I mean beer will make you snoozy but you wake up an hour later & have to pee… well, if you’re lucky you wake up to pee.

Anyhow It isn’t a regular thing for me…. I usually sleep pretty soundly but lately the coyotes have been more frequent & vocal… then my dog starts barking and I have to get up and lock him in & before I know it I’m wide awake.

I usually let the air purifier run or set the TV timer for an hour to give me a little mellow background sound & that seems to help too… but I think those rain forest recordings or gentle surf would probably work better and I plan to give one of those a try next time.

Good luck with your meds…. I hope they help.

Silva September 18, 2019 at 7:55 AM

They sure do.🙂

Gittyup September 18, 2019 at 11:15 PM

Hmmm. 3:30 AM? That must be some sort of magic hour for wildlife activity. Plus there was a full moon, I think. That’s the hour my cat goes off like an alarm clock, and I think it is because she sees the raccoons or the skunks coming through out on the patio. Haven’t figured out a way to turn her off, yet. I tried melatonin, but it took five times the recommended dose for it to work and that seemed a little risky to me as a long-term solution. You’re right though, it totally sucks.

Sometimes, I just lie there and do relaxation exercises over and over until I go back to sleep … “my feet are relaxed, they’re warm and heavy, they’re very, very heavy, I can’t lift them… my lower legs are relaxed, they’re warm and heavy, they’re very, very heavy, I can’t lift them … my knees are relaxed, they’re warm and heavy, they’re very, very heavy, I can’t lift them … my thighs are relaxed, they’re warm and heavy, they’re very, very heavy, I can’t lift them … my legs are warm and heavy, very, very heavy, I can’t lift them …” and so on right up the body. I had to add “my brain is relaxed, it’s warm and heavy, it’s very, very heavy …” because my body was relaxed, but my brain was still going full tilt. Usually works the first time even before I get past the legs. If not, I start over again at the feet until it does work. Naps help, too.

nytemuvr September 19, 2019 at 12:56 AM

@Gittyup….I’m not sure but I don’t think it’s a good thing to give your cat melatonin. I’d be a bloody mess if I tried sticking 5 pills down either of my cat’s throat.

Gittyup September 19, 2019 at 9:21 AM

Oh no … I didn’t give the cat melatonin. I took it to try and sleep through her yowling at 3:30 AM. No, I won’t be giving her any pills. She’s a feral I brought in last winter from the cold. I’m ruining her social life apparently, and she hates me. Won’t let me with a foot of her. I called a rescue group in the area hoping someone would take her, but couldn’t seem to generate any interest. She has been spayed, her ear is clipped, but you’re not gonna get any pills down that kitty’s throat. Took right to the litter box however, but protests using it loudly … mostly at all hours of the night.

Dr. Jellyfinger September 20, 2019 at 7:48 AM

@ Gittyup ~

Try some deep breathing along with your relaxation routine.

Are you sure the cat was spayed? It sounds like she’s in heat.

Gittyup September 20, 2019 at 5:59 PM

@Jellyfinger That’s what I was thinking. She sounds like she is calling a mate, that same loud, guttural yowling. But, the rescue group I called said they clipped the tip off of an ear when they neutered a feral, and she does have one ear clipped. It’s been going on a full year now, so I believe if she were actually in heat it would have subsided by now …. I would think? (I’ve never had a female before.) And, it seems to occur most often as a protest over having to use the litter box, although she does so conscientiously. I think she’s just confused … or maybe they didn’t get everything? IDK I’ve heard her actually meow, but only to other cats on the other side of the sliding glass door. So, I know she knows how, just not when she’s talking to me. I may have reinforced the behavior at some point, and that’s why she’s using it to get my attention. Strangest cat experience I’ve ever had, though.

Thanks for the deep breathing tip. I need to work on that most of all. Hope you get your sleep, pleasant dreams.

Kirkwood September 19, 2019 at 3:08 PM

Is there any parking at Walnut Creek BART that is still free after hours or weekends? How about a Park ‘n Ride lot near the freeway?

Mary Fouts September 19, 2019 at 3:46 PM

BART and taxis – Took Jim to and from PH BART today. I waited about 10 min to pick him up at 12:30 pm. During that time, saw 3 Uber and 1 Lyft pick up/drop offs. No taxis. Just wonder how the taxi industry will possibly survive.

Jim used Uber in SF for transportation between BART and his job site. Positive experience both legs.

I’m going to get my last in early, just in case I’m late in returning from Area 51.

Have a good time. 😉
Maybe it will morph into another “Burning Man” like party.

nytemuvr September 20, 2019 at 3:55 PM

At least give those people a show, knock the dust off and fire up an old SR71 Blackbird for a couple of low altitude, full throttle flybys over them.

The shock wave would probably level Rachael. – or at least knock down the porta-potties.

I would pay to be there for that!
