A fire has been extinguished on the hillside behind Lehmer’s Concord Buick-GMC, near Willow Pass Rd. and Market St. in Concord.

Witnesses say several propane tanks exploded in the fire, which started in a homess camp near hwy.242.

The blaze started at about 4:30 today, and was extinguished within half an hour.

PG&E + Homeless camps = High fire danger!

ConcordDad August 21, 2019 - 8:59 PM - 8:59 PM

Imagine that, another homeless encampment fire.

Whatever happened to good, old-fashioned briquettes?

Dr. Jellyfinger August 21, 2019 - 10:39 PM - 10:39 PM

They got expensive.

@Jellyfinger More expensuve than propane tanks?

SF oh August 22, 2019 - 8:10 AM - 8:10 AM

… not expensive at all …… they steal them.

Dr. Jellyfinger August 22, 2019 - 8:53 AM - 8:53 AM

Y’know propane would actually be a better alternative… no sparks blowing around…. a little camp stove & small propane cylinder are pretty safe.

I’ll bet the do-gooders would be glad to supply the Human Occupants Beneath Overpasses with stoves & cylinders.

What the hell are they cooking anyway?

That’s some sophisticated barbeque. Maybe they aren’t mentally ill, afterall.

There’s that bloodthirsty emoji, again. How the heck did that get in there … It’s haunting me! 👹

It looks like it’s sticking it’s tongue out…. no matter.

Not a fancy BBQ at all:

I have a gas grill too, but I use one of these little outdoor camp stoves if the electricity goes out or I just need to boil some eggs or make broccoli…. I don’t have to stink up the house.

Nothing will happen to them, even if caught. They’re protected as if they are on
the endangered specie list. Free to do whatever.
Really? You need to start a fire on a 90 degree day? Cookin’ up some road kill stew?

In a civilized world the drug infested homeless would be put in a rehab prison and the mentally ill would be put in a mental facility and the rest would be put in a tent city like our troops stayed in during WW2. These unsanitary, dangerous, conditions should not be allowed to continue. The government seems to be waiting for a plague.

Yet another homeless encampment fire. How many area fires so far this year have originated in or adjacent to a homeless encampment?

Sam Malone August 22, 2019 - 11:56 AM - 11:56 AM

Yet another just look the other way. Make these homeless that literally get a way with murder pay for the damages they continually are allowed to inflict on our cities and tax payers. Instead of placating them with more “freebies” make them work to pay off their debt to society. They have time to daily rotate in and out on our streets and highway entrances holding up signs asking for money for dope, liquor and cigarettes, while talking on the “free” cell phones the state gladly provides to them. They appear to run in between traffic and cars hoping to get hit so they can sue the drivers. If they can ask for cash and stand up all day they can be put to work in our cities to fix pot holes, clean up trash and multitude of other things that the city has cut back on. What say you liberals and Newsom?
