Fred Wood, who has served as chancellor for the Contra Costa Community College District since 2017, announced Thursday afternoon that he plans to retire this spring.
“Although there is never a perfect time for a leadership transition, the district is in a great place with a very strong financial position, stabilized enrollment, and doing a tremendous job of serving our students and community,” Wood said in a statement.
He added that he’s retiring after four decades in education due to personal obligations.
Wood attended Diablo Valley College and grew up in Martinez.
According to a statement issued by the district Thursday, he is grateful that he had the opportunity to contribute to the district’s legacy.
Wood plans to stay on until the end of March 2020, but the district’s governing board will have to come up with a plan for recruiting a new chancellor in the coming months.
They hope to have the new hire in place prior to Wood’s departure to ensure a smooth transition.
The district includes Contra Costa College, Diablo Valley College and Los Medanos College as well as education centers in Brentwood and San Ramon.

does anybody know the reasons most of the top Admin at Contra Costa College was put on Leave? They can’t say publicly, cause it is a personnel issue, but wondering just the same.
They need to revamp their system and make sure they have the right staff for the ongoing indoctrination of the youth.Can’t let anyone see the truths,just listen to them,you’ll; be ok….
