Today at 9:33 a.m., Contra Costa Deputy Sheriffs were dispatched to the area of Nortonville Road and Kirker Pass Road in unincorporated Pittsburg for a citizen reporting having seen two people who appeared to have been shot in a parked vehicle.

It was later confirmed that both of the occupants of the vehicle, a man and woman, suffered from apparent gunshot wounds. They were pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigation Division Detectives and Crime Lab Personnel also responded to the location.

The identities of the two subjects are not being released at this time. Detectives say initially that this appears to be a murder-suicide.

Ricardoh June 13, 2019 - 8:59 PM - 8:59 PM

Unbelievable. What a world we live in.

The Dude June 13, 2019 - 9:31 PM - 9:31 PM

Ricardoh….and you are shocked?! Probably a murder/suicide….

Ricardoh June 13, 2019 - 9:47 PM - 9:47 PM

The Dude I was shocked when first reading it but not anymore. How about you? Murder suicide doesn’t do it for you.

Original G June 13, 2019 - 9:53 PM - 9:53 PM

Passed by there just after 5 am this morning, car was there with lights off.

The Mamba June 14, 2019 - 12:22 PM - 12:22 PM

You should call that in…

Original G June 14, 2019 - 7:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Based on what criteria, . . . . . 20 / 20 hindsight ?

dc June 14, 2019 - 8:20 PM - 8:20 PM

OriginalG, I think Ricardoh means to report that you saw the car there at 5 am, gives detectives a timeline.

Original G June 15, 2019 - 2:47 PM - 2:47 PM

AH, . . . . . Yes . . . Thank You

West Leland June 13, 2019 - 10:10 PM - 10:10 PM

This is a really unfortunate event, likely another statistic of
the mental health and gun problems in our country. I don’t to know the situation in this case but probably one of the two suffered major mental anguish and/or this would have ended differently if a gun wasn’t involved.

Anon June 13, 2019 - 10:42 PM - 10:42 PM

Really? Couldn’t run a hose from the exhaust to the cab of the vehicle? Ban Hoses.

XJ June 13, 2019 - 10:44 PM - 10:44 PM

@WL-Right, let’s blame a totally inanimate object for the violence perpetrated by either the mentally unstable or those with wicked intentions. BOTH have existed since the dawn of human history. A gun doesn’t magically make a murder “MORE” murderous. A knife, a rock, a frying pan, bow and arrow…

Why not let the facts be known before blaming a piece of metal, wood and/or plastic.

Dr. Jellyfinger June 13, 2019 - 10:51 PM - 10:51 PM

Yeah…. murderer might have had to drive the car head on into another if he didn’t have a gun… that’s different.

Roz June 14, 2019 - 7:22 AM - 7:22 AM

Dr. Jellyfinger ~ Yes, that has happened. In early 1980’s, my Husband had a co-worker who was very depressed and wanted to die, to the point he couldn’t work anymore. About 2 weeks later, on Bailey Rd. a car with 4 of my Husband’s high school friends died in a head on collision. The driver of the other car, also died, and cause the accident. Yes, you guessed it,…it was the depressed co-worker. It was a shock this happened, and to finding out who killed the 4 friends.
These kids lives were taken, just so this guy could commit suicide.

Sign from Above June 14, 2019 - 7:43 AM - 7:43 AM

If that’s their plan, and no intervention takes place, they are going to find a way to do it. The gun is not to blame here! The individual is, even if they are mentally unstable for whatever reason. Unfortunately, I’ve seen far too many of these. In the majority of the cases, both individuals are not willing participants. Either way you look at it, it’s a selfish act. If you’re set on doing this, I would beg you to get help. However, if that’s not in your plan, don’t bring someone else into your it.

J June 14, 2019 - 9:18 AM - 9:18 AM

Yeah, the victim probably would have been stabbed repeatedly and bled to death instead. Or maybe just beaten to death with a hammer. Ban utensils and hand tools too!

Liar! Liar! June 14, 2019 - 9:27 AM - 9:27 AM

@West Leland,
No it wouldn’t. You made that up to fit your agenda.

Simonpure June 14, 2019 - 12:04 PM - 12:04 PM

OMG Roz…I’m sorry that happened to you. These stories are so sad. Iv’e been trough depression too but thank god it’s not this severe. Children and grandchildren keep my head on straight now days. Much happier man for them. Peace and love people!

Roz June 14, 2019 - 2:04 PM - 2:04 PM

@Simonpure,…Thank You,….and these kids were not into drinking or drugs. One was working on his sports career, baseball.
Grandchildren are a Blessing,…I have Grandcritters, LOL!, living with us till their Mama & Papa are done with work assignment in Alaska.

The gun makes it really easy to kill: just a squeeze of the trigger, a fraction of a second, no take-backsies, no chance for a few more moments of consideration or a change of heart. The murderer doesn’t even have to get close to the victim since guns do their job from a distance. And then once its done, well its done, so then the suicide is easier too. Its a relatively quick death, easy for the murderer to get out of the whole situation. Oh and lets make it really easy to get guns: lets produce a lot of them, encourage kids to use them for “hunting”, don’t even need a license, way cheaper than buying a car, don’t even need a background check for private ownership transfers, and lets fight efforts to limit or reduce access to mentally-ill individuals. Its not the guns fault, true. Its the people who enable the guns to get into the killers hands who are at fault. Its all of the people who defy logic and insist on guns being so freely available. Any sign of limits or restrictions and suddenly “oh they are coming to take our guns away, 2nd amendment” How about we just check to see if people are nuts before allowing them to buy guns? I don’t think that allowing unstable individuals to have firearms is a violation of the 2nd Amendment because they are violating rights to life for others. All it would take is a good court decision. That would be huge and save a lot of lives.

jose June 14, 2019 - 8:06 AM - 8:06 AM

It is not the guns fault. This type of violence is a ‘social problem’.

J June 14, 2019 - 9:24 AM - 9:24 AM

Your mindless rant proves you know zero things about guns. Typical faacist. More concerned with taking people’s rights than treating their mental health problems or helping them to protect themselves from dangerous crimiinals.

Just Me June 14, 2019 - 11:32 AM - 11:32 AM

Vandy, You should brush up on your facts, you need a license to hunt, you have to take a hunter safety course to obtain one. All gun purchases and transfers require a background check. Guns do not kill people do

Rollo Tomasi June 14, 2019 - 11:59 AM - 11:59 AM

You lie more about guns than Obama does. Shocking.

Rollo Tomasi June 14, 2019 - 12:02 PM - 12:02 PM

“How about we just check to see if people are nuts before allowing them to buy guns?”

I agree. That will necessitate a repeal of HIPAA. I’m game – are you?

MM June 14, 2019 - 7:22 PM - 7:22 PM

To hunt you have to take and pass a hunter safety class. The class, in depth, discusses weapon safety. The hunter safety card is then kept on file to then purchase a hunting license. Do some tease arch before you rant.

Linda June 16, 2019 - 5:38 PM - 5:38 PM

Vandy , actually the background check system does check for mental health issues. Yes, it has stopped people from getting a gun if they have ever been committed to a mental evaluation. Problem is, under Hippa laws, doctors are refusing to report, so only court ordered mental issues show up. Change that law which would report mental cases & it will solve some of the issues.

angela setzer June 14, 2019 - 8:49 AM - 8:49 AM

Getting rid of guns will only make things worse since the ones that will still have the guns are the bad guys!

WC June 14, 2019 - 8:54 AM - 8:54 AM

If he would have driven into a wall at 100 and killed both of them no one would be advocating outlawing cars.

Badge1104 June 14, 2019 - 9:09 AM - 9:09 AM

Who knows, maybe if this couple had just attended church this past Sunday, maybe would have been inspired and encouraged enough that this would not have happened.
Yes, very sad. (I happen to attend church this past weekend for the first time in a long time and came away totally inspired for the week!)

Roz June 14, 2019 - 9:51 AM - 9:51 AM

Happy to hear this,…what a Blessing to You.

Concord Mike June 14, 2019 - 3:20 PM - 3:20 PM

@Badge1104,

True! Going to church is a great idea for everyone, and especially those who are feeling depressed, lonely, or hurting in some way.

I am a cradle Catholic, and I always like to start my week with a close encounter of the spiritual kind…. helps me stay on track.

Statistics show this is also overwhelmingly true:
couples who pray together stay together.

JustMe June 14, 2019 - 10:06 AM - 10:06 AM

This is horrible!

Would be nice to have cameras along Kirker Pass. There really needs to be more light.

oldguy99 June 14, 2019 - 11:09 AM - 11:09 AM

Street lights, mental health help, gun laws – irrelevant. Nothing can stop a troublesome person from causing trouble. Murderous, suicidal people are not necessarily mentally ill.

Oh, please June 15, 2019 - 11:29 AM - 11:29 AM

Very true and couldn’t agree more.

Maureen June 14, 2019 - 11:36 AM - 11:36 AM

I heard multiple gun shots towards Bailey Rd.. this morning around 830m.. I live near Concord High School.

Aunt Sue June 14, 2019 - 1:54 PM - 1:54 PM

Drove by yesterday morning on my way to work and saw the car parked about 8am. I did not see anyone in or around the car, but obviously didn’t look inside. It’s not totally uncommon to have random cars parked on that little road. RIP 😔

Kristen June 15, 2019 - 3:51 AM - 3:51 AM

Two people have died. None of us knows how or why yet. Those of you bickering over what you think happened to these people is disrespectful and innapropriate. We dont know yet. We may never know.

S June 15, 2019 - 6:59 AM - 6:59 AM

welcome to social media

Sweetea June 15, 2019 - 10:42 PM - 10:42 PM

How sad that all i am reading is blame and hurtful assumptions about a person we dont know … I am praying for the families that have no idea there are two people that they Will never see again alive…. God have mercy on there souls
..

S June 15, 2019 - 11:16 PM - 11:16 PM
