Great photo.

RunnerDope June 10, 2019 at 10:59 AM

It’s moving west.

RunnerDope June 10, 2019 at 11:01 AM

Looks like it’s almost to Clyde/242.

Pat June 10, 2019 at 11:02 AM

What the hell is wrong with you people who start (most of) these fires?

Justifiable anger June 10, 2019 at 11:12 AM

Vagrants and dopers live on the fringes. They need to be rounded up. They are endangering the population.

Kathy June 10, 2019 at 11:12 AM

What the hell is wrong with you people who start (most of) these useless, unfounded rumors?

Sarah June 10, 2019 at 11:08 AM

did somebody start this fire?

TC June 10, 2019 at 11:13 AM

the red fire retardant was just dropped on the hill…should be under control soon hopefully.

Gina June 10, 2019 at 11:14 AM

Praying for all the first responders in the sky and on the ground.

Badger June 10, 2019 at 11:14 AM

You can see and smell smoke in Gregory Gardens, Pleasant Hill.

Mary Fouts June 10, 2019 at 11:15 AM

Thank you for posting this. Just walked out to my backyard in south PH. Intense smell of grass fire smoke not there 30 min ago, could tell we are downwind of some fire. Hills to the west (approx Briones/Lafayette area) are very smokey.

Claycord.com was the first place I came for fire information. I’ll check back frequently for updated information.

Chris June 10, 2019 at 11:15 AM

Not sure what caused this fire, but I see nunerous idiots throwing cigarette buts out their vehicle windows.

Savage June 10, 2019 at 11:27 AM

I see this all the time, a lot during hwy 4 commute hours too. Gonna be a long fire season, very dry long grass everywhere

Roz June 10, 2019 at 11:16 AM

Planes fighting really low in my area by Willow Pass,…feels like you can almost touch one that came by.
Smoke/fire very close,…live close to Lynwood/ Landana.

Carol Williams June 10, 2019 at 11:21 AM

Read it was a plane crash.

Concernicus June 10, 2019 at 11:36 AM

….Where did you read that…?

Anna June 10, 2019 at 11:40 AM

That is not true.

Jojo Potato June 10, 2019 at 11:47 AM

There was a plane crash into the river near Isleton. Please don’t give CCR haters more fake information.

Carol June 10, 2019 at 11:23 AM

Heard it was an airplane that went down.

Sign from Above June 10, 2019 at 11:50 AM

Plane crash was yesterday – Into the delta.

Pony June 10, 2019 at 11:23 AM

I am surprised PGE hasn’t shut off power to Concord, “as a precaution”

West Leland June 10, 2019 at 11:30 AM

Having been thru the Santa Rosa wildfire of 2017 and having been thru blackouts, I’d much rather chose another black out over another fire like that

Blueberry June 10, 2019 at 11:44 AM

I have family that lost home in a fire in Gold Country. They would really have preferred to have their power shut off.

Concernicus June 10, 2019 at 11:45 AM

Much appreciation to our fast and thorough fire responders!

SuperMegaAwesome June 10, 2019 at 11:23 AM

Blows me away how many people I still see throwing cigarettes out the window of their cars. Not saying that’s what’s happened here, but come on people, knock it off.

concordmomoffour June 10, 2019 at 11:24 AM

It appears to be 2 fires

MovingOutOfCA June 10, 2019 at 11:24 AM

I’m not saying it’s from a cig, but people are still throwing them out of their cars. Just 3 days ago heading to Santa Cruz on 17, I saw a guy flick his cig out the window. 😡🤬

Silva June 10, 2019 at 11:51 AM

There’s no shortage of stupid people.

Kathy June 10, 2019 at 11:29 AM

What the hell is wrong with you people who start (most of) these unfounded rumors?

Pat June 10, 2019 at 12:11 PM

Stop whining. Most fires are caused by stupid adults are they not?

Jason June 10, 2019 at 1:29 PM

Since you asked Pat, no. Many wildfires thought caused by people are being shows to be caused by utilities. California officials now link at least 17 of 21 major fires in 2017 to PG&E alone, not to mention other major utilities like Edison.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/pg-e-sparked-at-least-1-500-california-fires-now-the-utility-faces-collapse-11547410768

Melissa June 10, 2019 at 11:30 AM

I drove by probably when it had first started on Willow Pass by the bridge in the middle of the naval weapons station. It was close to the road probably a cigarette. No plane crash!

Dale Malms June 10, 2019 at 11:30 AM

C-130 is on the scene now…

Ward Hinds June 10, 2019 at 11:30 AM

I was driving on Concord Blvd two days ago and saw some idiot shooting off a Roman candle.

Stephen June 10, 2019 at 11:31 AM

I’m monitoring from SF. Any news on the smoke situation around Esperanza ?

Thanks, everyone, for the updates.

Sunshine June 10, 2019 at 11:42 AM

It’s smoky but also windy so the smoke (at this time) isn’t as thick. I’m staying indoors at work but I’m not hearing the planes/helicopters as loud or frequent. Could be because the fire is traveling a different direction. Stay safe friends!!

Erika June 10, 2019 at 11:49 AM

I’m on Winthrop and it’s Smokey but not to horrible. You can see more than you can smell.

Courtney June 10, 2019 at 11:51 AM

It was smoky, but it’s already lifting.

Mac n cheese June 10, 2019 at 11:51 AM

I live just off of Esperanza. I am seeing less smoke now. I think its almost out. Thank goodness.

Bob Foo June 10, 2019 at 1:01 PM

I live off of Willow Pass between Landana and Farm Bureau.

The air was surprisingly clear, although I could see smoke going into the sky. It must have been blowing west.

Guest June 10, 2019 at 11:33 AM

Lots of large ashes falling in PH.

Sierra June 10, 2019 at 11:34 AM

Thank you firefighters for hitting this fire hard and heavy!

Anon June 10, 2019 at 11:34 AM

Why isn’t the city/county being pro-active and bulldozing ahead of time? I know that costs money but surely not as much as putting out fires.

CalOldBlue June 10, 2019 at 11:52 AM

You bulldoze firebreaks, 5-10 yards wide, so firefighters can stop a fire at that point. You don’t bulldoze the entire hillside. All the firebreaks in the world will not prevent fires; they WILL help get them put out before serious damage occurs. And yes, firebreaks along a road CAN lessen the possibility of a cigarette-induced fire, but right now we don’t know what caused the fire.

RunnerDope June 10, 2019 at 11:35 AM

Looked like a DC-7 and a Grumman S2T.

E.J. June 10, 2019 at 11:37 AM

Almost every time I drive from Concord to Bay point I see weird people walking along willow pass. These people should not be allowed to be there, they are causing all this. I saw one throwing a cigarette once!! They do not give a f about others because they have nothing to lose. City needs to get rid of homeless in this area, and no I am not trying to be mean, but if they are the only reason why this fires get started then something needs to be done with them!

J June 10, 2019 at 11:50 AM

It’s true. I have a ranch nearby and am constantly afraid of vagrants trespassing and using my buildings for BARIOUS reasons. It is not a figment of the imagination. Homelessness and drug use is rampant and trespassing and THEFT. Fact!!

J June 10, 2019 at 11:52 AM

It’s true. I have a ranch nearby and am constantly afraid of vagrants trespassing and using my buildings for VARIOUS reasons. It is not a figment of the imagination. Homelessness and drug use is rampant and trespassing and THEFT very real. Fact!! Once a man came out of my barn brushing his teeth..,

Susan I. June 10, 2019 at 11:38 AM

I’m off solano In hillcrest. We are seeing and smelling smoke here. Lots of traffic from Buc field.

Bradley June 10, 2019 at 11:40 AM

Smoke bad here in Poet’s Corner in PH. Smoke is blowing right over into PH/Lafayette. Came fast and hard

VM June 10, 2019 at 11:40 AM

Cal Fire reporting it 100% contained at 23 acres http://www.fire.ca.gov/general/firemaps

Concordian June 10, 2019 at 12:02 PM

Best update since this began- thank you, VM!

Jewel June 10, 2019 at 12:13 PM

The fire you see on the map as 100% contained was the Willow Fire (in roughly the same area) on June 6th http://cdfdata.fire.ca.gov/incidents/incidents_details_info?incident_id=2317

S June 10, 2019 at 11:40 AM

HEY! Don’t they know it’s a Spare the Air Day!

Mike June 10, 2019 at 11:44 AM

Unfortunately, they are also the reason for so much trash and litter.

Claude June 10, 2019 at 11:45 AM

We’re on Esperanza, between N. 6th and Olivera Rd. It’s actually not too bad, here. The smoke seems to be more towards Pixieland and the baseball fields, closer to Willow Pass Rd.

Phoenyx June 10, 2019 at 11:55 AM

Honestly I’m surprised there hasn’t been a fire in that area prior to this that I can remember. I’ve lived out here for 26 years.

I watched the aerial battle from my house, not too far away. It was pretty amazing how well coordinated they are with three airplanes and a helicopter all flying around each other. I mean, I love a good airshow, but…

Good job to the firefighters who were/are working on this.

Absolutely agree. Well said.

Justifiable anger June 10, 2019 at 12:34 PM

You are right Dave. It is far past time to catagorize and sort those without shelter. They need to be counted, identified and labeled. Drug tested and examined and innoculated. Only then, can we analyze and devise a plan to help these unfortunate people.

Not a single politician has stepped up with a viable plan. Sandwiches, free drugs and fecal clean up is not a plan to integrate the homeless.

Those who are doped up and refuse to cooperate, should be delt with firmly. What are your ideas?

Nicole June 10, 2019 at 11:59 AM

Not sure how it started but maybe this will be a wake up call for some of the schools (Delta View) to take better care of their landscaping. The weeds around their are outrageous and dangerous. I hope they get this under control and nobody gets hurt. Prayers for all the fire fighters out there!

VM June 10, 2019 at 12:00 PM

Correcting myself – That spot on Cal Fire’s map for a “Willow Fire” – was brought to my attention that it was a fire previously that was more north of the fire going on now – the one that was by 4. Yep, def fire season. Be safe everyone.

Guest June 10, 2019 at 12:12 PM

A countable number of sketchy men in Willow Pass Park on any given day. Over my fence I see a man with dreadlocks sitting on a bench under a tree looking left to right every few seconds: he’s gonna snap his head off any minute now. However the fire started, at least it seems under control now.

Warbirds45 June 10, 2019 at 12:14 PM

Aircraft flying on fire today:
OV-10 Bronco….Lead Aircraft

Grumman S-2

C-130. …..from Collusion Firefighters

Evelyn June 10, 2019 at 12:24 PM

We live on Lynwood Dr just one block from all the action, I had my grandson with me when we noticed the smoke and flames, The firefighters and Air defense were amazing watching, they did an amazing job. Thank You so much for the fast hard hard work. You are amazing, thanks to Claycord for always being there. I am going to miss you, when we move.

Cowellian June 10, 2019 at 12:41 PM

Well, at least homeless druggies didn’t melt the highway, like they did in Atlanta, back in 2107.

Dr. Jellyfinger June 10, 2019 at 1:43 PM

Cowellian…. I know you’re in Tennessee, but that’s only like 2 or 3 hours ahead of us here in CA. right?

Cowellian June 10, 2019 at 2:08 PM

Here in Middle Tennessee, we are two ours ahead of California. Knoxville and Chattanooga are three hours ahead.

Cowellian June 10, 2019 at 2:16 PM

two ours?
It seems I’ve fat-fingered another post.
sigh

Dr. Jellyfinger June 10, 2019 at 3:47 PM

OK…. but you’re not like 89 years ahead of us tho?

Cowellian June 10, 2019 at 4:05 PM

Again?!?!?!?!?!

Dr. Jellyfinger June 12, 2019 at 8:27 AM

“Well, at least homeless druggies didn’t melt the highway, like they did in Atlanta, back in 2107”

“Back in 2107”?

Dr. Jellyfinger June 12, 2019 at 9:17 PM

Just rubbing it in.

Cowellian June 12, 2019 at 10:07 PM

I own it. That’s what happens when I miss my DNA (National Dyslexia Association) meetings.
