Several police vehicles are at the homeless shelter on Arnold Industrial Way in Concord this evening.

Just before 5 p.m. tonight, police responded to the shelter after a 911 caller stated a man was outside punching the air. A few minutes later, paramedics were called to the shelter to treat a person injured in a fight.

Firefighters performed CPR on the person. It’s unknown if the person survived, but several witnesses have stated they never saw anyone leave in an ambulance.

We’ll update the story when Concord Police release information.

Outside punching the air?

That’s an everyday sight downtown.

Detectives just arrived

ridiculous, these people are given way too much leniency…police are constantly over there dealing with inane incidents…they just aimless hang around there waiting for a handout…they are a flat out public nuisance

That place scares me to death every time I have to drive by it. Disgusting and they loiter all over the street. That disgusting human dump is considered a shelter? Looks like an operating criminal enterprise from the outside and dirty.

Sick of the California Criminal Sanctuary!

And I’m disgusted by people’s lack of empathy.

Ditto, it makes me disgusted.

people understand ok, but they don’t have sympathy. In some situations…. why should they?

Future Catlady February 9, 2019 at 7:25 AM

Just so you know, not everybody at that shelter is crazy or a criminal. Some are people who have lost everything and have no other options.

Homeless shelters should be for those who want to do better for themselves and just can’t catch a break not mentally ill drug addicts that should be in a metal institution. I wish we would have never closed all of the mental homes and get these burdens of society off of our streets. That’s 2 dead people in a week. Is this the environment we want our children exposed to? Can’t even go to Lowe’s anymore without seeing drug activity, women being abused, or grown men using the sidewalk as their bathrooms. I’m so sick of the current state of our country. It’s worse than 3rd world countries in some ways.

@ Concerned

“MENTALLY ILL drug addicts that should be in a metal institution.” Californians voted to discontinue the use of “mental institutions” many years ago. Drug addicts are one thing. The mentally ill are a different situation all together. They are not in that condition by any choice of their own. You can’t really know about TRUE mental illness unless you’ve seen its affects first hand. California, as a state and as a people, needs to do better for our mentally ill.

Thank you Governor Reagan for shutting down the mental institions

Cellophane February 9, 2019 at 12:37 PM

I just don’t get it, Grape.

Reagan has been out of office since 1972.

Why have you and folks like you not gotten your representatives to reopen/replace those institutions?

Whining about something never gets it fixed.

concord grape February 9, 2019 at 11:40 AM

oops s/b institutions

concord grape February 9, 2019 at 3:05 PM

@Cellophane, look up the LPS act of 1967 that Gov. Reagan signed in to law.

My mother stayed at that shelter while she went through Breast Cancer Treatment and they were so helpful. I am thankful shelters like that are there for the people who are really in need. RIP to the man who lost his life.

Homeless shelter:

The city leaves these mentally ill running around free, because it costs too much to treat them….you know you do….
Also in Fairfield, west texas street, Fairfield, they leave crazies running around, because they help the police rat drug dealers out….
Secret of the police dept..!!!!!
Trust me

@ Kevin

It’s not a city issue. This is an issue that needs to be handled at the state level. Bring back the psychiatric facilities that were removed by Reagan so many years ago!
