It is 7:11 PM right now and Gmail appears to be down. I can’t receive anything.

WC Resident January 4, 2019 at 7:34 PM

It’s working for me. A test e-mail from was delivered to an address in less than one second. A reply from gmail back to the address also worked and was delivered in less than one second.

concord ygnacio January 4, 2019 at 10:50 PM

Thanks WC Resident. It was down from about 7:00 to 7:12, then it started working again. All the test emails I sent were suddenly received like 10 minutes late.

Lots of good clips, make you smile, snow at sea, others were fun.
Nature is metal was crazy! Surprised it was caught on camera.

Ancient Mariner January 5, 2019 at 8:28 PM

Not sure about this, Atticus!
Your ‘Name It’ picture’s caption says “Remington 700”, but it doesn’t look anything like a bolt-action rifle to me.
It must by waaaay modified.
Nice list, as always, and thanks for lightening up a rainy Saturday evening!

Atticus Thraxx January 6, 2019 at 9:46 AM

Happy you enjoyed Roz! 🙂
I think it used to be an 870 Ancient One. Modified to that extent it becomes it’s own thing.

Why is it that if a child has lice at school , the school feels like it is nobody’s business but that kids family… lice is going around Ayers school and they have not once sent home notices of this!!! If one child has it then every child should be checked!!! going to be a very pissed off grandma if my grand daughter comes home with lice!!!

Silva January 4, 2019 at 9:14 PM

Lice are an unfortunate part of life. There are really nice smelling essential oils that double as repellents. Lots of info online. If you’ve got to be a grandma without having to deal with lice you’re doing well. It’s annoying, but not the end of the world.

Barbie Girl January 4, 2019 at 10:01 PM

Advice from a former school nurse who used to work at an exclusive private school that had lice cases all the time. Do not use Nix or Rid, most over the counter products, they no longer work. The lice have evolved and grown immune to them. We used Tea Tree Oil Shampoo Paul Mitchell sold at Rite Aid. (Some brands like those sold at Whole Foods, are not strong enough.) If you choose to use the Tea Tree Oil mixed in your shampoo, only use a few drops or you will burn your child’s head. Tea Tree also repels them. You can smother the little suckers with Olive Oil and a shower cap over night. Also take care of business such as vacuum, wash every pillow, blanket and brush, combs, stuffed animals. (Hot dryer will do) Then braid your kids hair and use hair spray. When in doubt, call the Hair Fairys. They do it formyou.

Anon January 5, 2019 at 12:31 PM

You can use the child’s urine…..Yep, I know what everyone is thinking.

I wouldn’t trip out too much, do you know what PreMarin is? Pregnant Mares Urine.
Where do they get Urokinase or Urea from ~
from Porta Potties.

Dorothy January 4, 2019 at 8:47 PM

Book report. Took forever to read because it’s a 2 for 1 unit. Both by Allen Drury, A God Against the Gods, 1976 and Return to Thebes, 1977. If you are into Egyptian history, these are supposition stories of the time a Pharaoh wanted to turn Egypt to a single god instead of a multitude of them and the aftermath of it all. These 2 books would be more interesting if the writing style didn’t make it all boring. Each of the main people has their own chapter, some longer than others, with their personal outlook on what is happening at any given point in time. End result is a lot of repetition and not much moving the story/history. This is another of my mom’s books. I know she read it but don’t know why she thought it was a keeper.

Concordejet January 4, 2019 at 10:00 PM

Q What do you get from sitting on the snow too long?
A Polaroids!

Anonymee January 5, 2019 at 7:40 AM

Did you hear about what happened to the cannibal who was late to the family dinner? They gave him the cold shoulder.

Cowellian January 5, 2019 at 8:42 AM

Piles of snow?

Concordejet January 6, 2019 at 11:22 AM

LOL at both of you. I will give you all a pile of cold snow hahahahah

Hayden Barsotti January 5, 2019 at 8:25 AM

A. Springtime!!!

Concordejet January 6, 2019 at 11:23 AM

LOL yep always springing up on spring time

JR January 5, 2019 at 5:29 PM

Does anyone know whats going on with all the empty land around Concord? Next to the Police Station on Galindo…Also across the street from the Police Station…Also next to the Skate Park between Monument and San Miguel…Also the empty land across from the P2P Gym (Salvio St)…Just Curious, Thanks!!

Ancient Mariner January 5, 2019 at 7:41 PM

Here’s a link for you. It goes to the Contra Costa County GIS Map page.

Mouse to any property and left-click. It will bring up the tax information. It won’t show the owner’s name, but it will show the address that the tax bill goes to. You can also look up the assessor’s map and other information. Some properties are city-owned, some are privately-owned. (Also some land is owned by different agencies). All property belongs to somebody. There is no such thing as ‘vacant land’ (although I have heard that excuse used to justify cutting down all of a neighbour’s trees).
As an example, clicking on the land next to the skate park yields a tax address of 300 LAKESIDE DR 22ND FL, OAKLAND CA 94612,
which is also BART’s corporate address.
Have fun!

Kirkwood January 7, 2019 at 11:47 AM

The Concord Fault, which creeps continuously runs down the center of that vacant lot between Systron and Cowell. Probably not much good for anything but BART parking.

KAD January 5, 2019 at 5:46 PM

Cowellian had a twofer. I went to last and the last was closed.

Anon January 6, 2019 at 12:09 PM

The new temporary paper plates went into law Jan 1st. I’m guessing it will be April 1st when they start cracking down?

Cars sold December 31st would have 90 days with the old paper plates.

I know of someone that has had their “new” car for over a year and they are still driving around with paper plates on the car.

Law Dog January 6, 2019 at 7:17 PM

I got people in my neighborhood who has paper plates for two years.

Officer Barbrady January 6, 2019 at 6:06 PM

Cable box went out. Called Wave. 25 minute hold . There sure don’t have a problem taking my money though .

Original G January 7, 2019 at 8:19 PM

Guess with technology increasing around us almost daily it was bound to happen. From robots to self driving vehicles . . . .

Good news, no fire hydrants were harmed.
Bad news appears there was a hit n run in Las Vegas.

Antler January 7, 2019 at 8:23 PM

Historical question:
At Seacliff State Beach in Aptos, California, there is a very old shipwreck.
Locals refer to it as the “Cement Ship”.
Does anyone know whether this ship was carrying cement cargo from the now razed plant in Cowell? Date the ship sank? Anything?

WC Resident January 7, 2019 at 9:11 PM

It was an oil tanker! Look at as there’s a bit of interesting history about the concrete ships.

Silva January 8, 2019 at 8:09 AM

Concrete boats and ships. Funny thing, the other day I thought about the large concrete boat that was dry docked on the Oakland waterfront years ago.

Original G January 8, 2019 at 10:16 AM

From time around World War One an eventually fitted out with a swimming pool, cafe and carnival type attractions in 1930 and by 1932 it went bust.

Kirkwood January 8, 2019 at 11:32 AM

I fished from the bow of the Palo Alto as a kid. It had already broken in half and the several yard gap was bridged with a walkway.

Kirkwood January 8, 2019 at 11:59 AM

Silva – I think I remember that cement sailboat also, it was something like 40′ long and still under construction. It was somewhere on the Oakland waterfront, I don’t know what happened to it.

Antler January 8, 2019 at 12:25 PM

Thanks, everyone! I’m still hoping to find info re the precise origin and type of cargo on the day it went down…. but just idle curiousity on my part.

WC Resident January 8, 2019 at 8:29 PM

@Antler – did you read the link I posted earlier? It explains the precise origin and type of cargo on the day it went down…

Silva January 8, 2019 at 7:55 AM

I have a dining recommendation in the Clayton Valley area, which IMO is starved for delicious international home style cooking. Momo N Curry Indian/Nepalese Restaurant. They’re located in the same strip mall as the new Dunkin Donuts, in the location where Scouser’s was. YUM!!!

Jojo Potato January 8, 2019 at 4:39 PM

Momo N Curry is very well regarded amongst my Paki (Pakistani) friends on this side of the tunnel. I agree with your recomendation. And I’m just a local guy.

Justifiable Languor January 8, 2019 at 12:24 PM

I have a question about recycling plastic bags. I looked it up on line and it recommended Safeways in general.

Where do I deposit them? I just sent the husband into a Safeway and he did not find the bin near the door.

Any suggestions?

WC Resident January 8, 2019 at 8:25 PM

If your garbage company participates in RecycleSmart (I think they all do in CC county) then then put the bags into a bag so they won’t blow around and them in your recycle bin. See which has “Plastic bags (put all dry and clean plastic bags in one) Bag-the-bags!”

Justifiable Languor January 9, 2019 at 12:19 PM

Thank you WC Resident.

A few months ago (June?) we received a notice in the mail that only 1 & 2 plastic was acceptable, and envelopes with windows had to be separated with the windows treated as unrecyclable. Glossy magazines and advertisements were to be treated as unrecyclable.

You link looks like the original that dates back a decade or so.

Original G January 8, 2019 at 4:09 PM

About 2:10 this afternoon Concord Blvd. westbound at about Colfax had to be about five Concord PD marked vehicles lights n sirens Very rapidly passed.
An to credit of public everybody on the street stopped to let them pass.

Silva January 8, 2019 at 9:00 PM

If there is really a sky kingdom this guy may have a house with a good view there.

Fyi January 9, 2019 at 1:34 AM

Trying to post this again! Best new food place, California fish Grill on yv. In wc. Great prices and best fish and chips. I ordered by Doordash, which I love!

Silva January 9, 2019 at 3:39 PM

Thanks!! I’ve been looking for good fish ‘n chips since Mr. Pickwick left, and Scouser’s.

anotheranon January 9, 2019 at 4:47 PM

For some REALLY good fish and chips, check out Tugboat Fish and Chips, on Longbrook Way in Pleasant Hill. Tucked away near Outback Steakhouse, you might miss it if you’re not careful. Very good food, very plain place; you order at the register, get a table and they bring your order when ready. No alcohol, inexpensive pricing, and tight parking.

Fyi January 9, 2019 at 5:46 PM

I like new tugboat….new name….Jimmy’s, too. But ca fish grill can be ordered with doordash!

Silva January 10, 2019 at 7:33 AM

anotheranon, I adore tucked away restaurants you kinda hafta know about, but if they were easy to spot they’d be completely overrun because the food is so good. And I don’t mind a bit not paying for atmosphere, and I don’t like corporate food. It sounds like what I’ve been searching far and wide for. Thank you!

Fyi, We’ll be checking out California fish Grill too. It sounds promising, and close to home. Thanks!

Oroginal G January 9, 2019 at 3:11 PM

Short of driving over the hill to Oakley to scrap metal place or getting lucky at garage sales, does anyone know of a place to get scrap metal for projects ?

This go round ooking for angle iron and 2″ pipe for tomato trellis. Tomatoes got so heavy last year they buckled double wall 3″ pvc.

Mary Fouts January 9, 2019 at 4:29 PM

I have scrap metal rebar if you would like it. But I think pices (2) are about 10:feet long if not more.

Justifiable Languor January 9, 2019 at 5:14 PM

Craigs List (SF Bay Area/East Bay: For Sale
Materials or Farm+Garden or sometimes Free
is a good place to start.

Some have bad luck. I have good luck, use your common sense.

Kirkwood January 11, 2019 at 3:43 PM

Welding shops (job shops, not welding suppliers) usually have a stock rack and will sell retail, typically by the lb.

giddyup January 9, 2019 at 10:27 PM

I’ll never but anither thing from Amazon, that’s for sure.

Silva January 10, 2019 at 7:22 AM

Why not, giddyup?

Justifiable Languor January 10, 2019 at 7:29 AM

Billygoat! Lol

Original G January 10, 2019 at 1:12 PM

Mary Fouts … Can’t really use rebar, but Thank You for your very kind offer.

Justifiable Languor … Hadn’t considered Craigs List, Thank You.

Anybody know what this plane is it circling around over Concord here for about an hour now

Dr. Jellyfinger January 10, 2019 at 5:45 PM

It was me… Sorry, fell asleep for awhile there.

Original G January 10, 2019 at 6:26 PM

From my bookmarks, this is Flight radar 24 and has the coordinates set for Claycord area. If plane shows up click on it and on left side box will open. Take the tail number identifier and plug that into a search engine and it usually coughs up who it belongs to. For example one of CoCo Sheriff chopper tail number is N407CC.,-121.95/10
