So anyone ever notice how there are rarely patrons inside Caspers Hot Dogs on Clayton Road? My kids and I always make a game of it to see who can guess the right number of patrons. Rent there must be super low.

Justifiable Languor December 8, 2018 at 7:36 AM

It seems like both Kaspers and the Chinese food place are slow. Always have been from what I have seen. Not that I am an expert. Is that Kaspers a good one? The one on CoCo Blvd is popular. Then there is Lisa’s up by Kmart.

Lol, I have been wanting a hotdog for about a year. I missed my chance at both Memorial day and 4th of July.

Kentucky Derby December 8, 2018 at 12:05 PM

Kasper’s on Clayton Rd. has always been slow. It was like that in the 70s. Too much fast food competition in the area, and that fact that most people prefer burgers over hot dogs would be my guess. And hot dogs are easy and very cheap to make at home. Burgers take more effort!

The Casper’s in Pleasant Hill is slow too. Or it was years ago. I had friends in high school (70s) that worked at each location, and they complained how slow it was. I was working fast food too, and we were always busy!

Pat December 8, 2018 at 12:53 PM

Isn’t it true that they (with the letter “K”) don’t use the same hotdog as the real Caspers? I tried them ONE time yeeearrs ago and was not impressed. I drive by often but haven’t been back.

Justifiable Languor,
Your BEST bet is to go to Costco or Sam’s Club for a hotdog (and soda).. Neither place can be beat IMHO. Yum!!

Kentucky Derby December 8, 2018 at 1:58 PM

I don’t know if they use the same hot dogs, but Kasper’s was the original hot dog stand. Two cousins broke ties, and started Casper’s. Both of these companies go way back, and needless to say – there was a family feud.

As far as the “real Kasper’s” if anything, it would be the company with the K, not the C. Kasper’s was first, not Casper’s.

Now I’m hungry…

Justifiable Languor December 8, 2018 at 5:56 PM

I have had the polish dog at Costco. Enjoyed it too!

I am so glad I am not the only one to wonder about these things. Momof4 you might have some reports about the K(C)aspers on Clayton Road.

The Kaspers on Clayton and Caspers on CoCo Blvd. I had no idea!

Ancient Mariner December 7, 2018 at 10:17 PM

Nope, can’t get either of your ‘Name It’ pictures, Atticus, but I can get extra credit for the Lewis gun.
Nice list again – brightens up a cold Friday evening.
Thank you!

Ancient Mariner December 7, 2018 at 10:33 PM

Just for me?
I didn’t notice this one earlier – thank you, Atticus!
I don’t know what this one is, either.
Guess I’m slipping.

If you are using both a portable heater and hair dryer in your bathroom and you trip a breaker. It is NOT an emergency.

If your leaf blowing “gardener” bumps into the gas meter or you bang into it with ypur garbage can and trips YOUR Earthquake device, PGE did not shut your gas off. It is NOT an emergency. Please Stop.

Smith December 11, 2018 at 1:54 PM

People who say they are from PGE are calling me daily saying they are “in the area” or ringing my “NO SOLICITATIONS” door bell and trying to sell me stuff. Please stop.

Can anyone recommend a good and fair mechanic? I own a Honda civic but no longer want to use Honda service. Thanks!

OH YES!! December 9, 2018 at 9:47 AM

A-1 Brake and Tire in WC is amazing! They can fix everything, and they’re honest and reliable. Have taken my cars (Ford, Toyota & Honda) there for years! Never had a problem!

Blue December 9, 2018 at 10:58 AM

Thank you!

Chicken Little December 9, 2018 at 12:33 PM

Randy’s Mobile Repair (also has a nice shop) on Cloverdale (near Costco) is also fair, honest, competent, and a bunch of nice guys all around.

Silva December 11, 2018 at 9:32 AM

I could use any tips on where to shop for lawnmowers. I prefer corded electric. Nothing fancy, just good sized and strong enough to cut through medium size fresh grass lawn. Tbh I can’t spend very much. We’ve got all of them in recent history from Sears. None ever lasted nearly as long as our first power mower which was from Monkey Wards ca.1964. All metal housing and strong as a horse. That machine mowed for thirty+ years and through four addresses most with large areas to mow, and it often wasn’t nice soft grasses, either. It was even stolen here in Claycord in the early 80s and my mom had to identify it from a photo that came in the mail before it was even missed. My number is up again though, one more Craftsman down. Lawn’s growing!🙂

Justifiable Languor December 11, 2018 at 12:53 PM

I bought mine on Craig’s List a few years back. Barely used and superficially dirty, it was never used after he mowed his hill with it. He hires a yard service now. Haha.

The Mr. cleaned it up and it is good as new. Gasoline powered for 100 bucks.

You might find what you want for a steal. At the very least you would learn about what is out there.

Silva December 11, 2018 at 1:47 PM

Ooo, good idea, Justifiable.

Original G December 11, 2018 at 8:19 PM

That reminds me, need to drain gas out of garden equipment and run ’em dry for the winter storage.

Silva December 12, 2018 at 5:06 AM

You’re supposed to drain ’em over Winter? Maybe that explains why gas mowers, trimmers, and saws don’t like me.

Mary Fouts December 12, 2018 at 1:48 PM

Silva, try Joseph’s Lawnmowers in Pleasant Hill, at 1551 Oak Park Blvd next to Contra Costa Blvd. We have used them for years, for both purchases and repairs. Friendly staff and excellent customer service.

Jojo Potato December 12, 2018 at 2:27 PM

Plus, Joseph’s is one of our great local treasures. Been there forever and always helpfull. I get house keys made there when I need some. Besides draining your fuel you can also give it some STA-BIL fuel stabilizer to keep it ready to start right up in spring. Joseph’s can advise.

Silva December 12, 2018 at 6:53 PM

Thanks for the Joseph’s lead. That sounds like a good place to know about. I will stop by.

WC Resident December 13, 2018 at 7:38 PM

I’m still using the push mower we got from Sears in the 1960s and take it to Joseph’s Lawnmowers every few years to have the blades sharpened.

marinemom December 11, 2018 at 6:20 PM

Any one know why clayton ROAD HAS A BAD TRAFFIC BACK UP?

Native Claycordian December 11, 2018 at 8:32 PM

There was a pedestrian or cyclist hit by a car.

Original G December 11, 2018 at 8:15 PM

Never underestimate the inventiveness of citizens fed up with being ignored by those in city government when it comes to pot hole repairs. Once again proof the easiest way to motivate so called “public servants” is thru publicly and embarrassment.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-6484865/Residents-Pennsylvania-city-filled-growing-pothole-CHRISTMAS-TREE.html

Kirkwood December 12, 2018 at 2:12 PM

So the City put a trench plate over the hole but didn’t secure it.
Reminds of a couple of decades ago a Concord sewer worker forgot to replace a manhole cover on Clayton Rd. A Mercedes dropped a tire into the open manhole and flipped!

Teamster December 11, 2018 at 8:36 PM

What’s the 411 on helocopter encircling the Alberta area?

Silva December 12, 2018 at 4:51 AM

Anybody hear that very loud blast Monday evening at around 9?

Sweet William December 12, 2018 at 2:11 PM

Just wanted to know when CHP is going to enforce the weight limit on Bailey Rd. It’s not bad enough on Bailey, with all the bumps and potholes, now all the trucks removing the toxic dirt from the Naval Weapons Station, and taking up to the Garbage Dump, are really tearing the road up, along with backing up the already jammed up traffic!

Cowellian December 12, 2018 at 2:57 PM

There was a 4.4 temblor in East Tennessee today.
Nobody knew how they were supposed to react to it.
The good news is that it wasn’t the New Madrid again.

Silva December 12, 2018 at 4:22 PM

I was wondering if people were upset over there. I hope everyone’s okay Cowellian. Good to hear from ya!

Cowellian December 12, 2018 at 4:52 PM

We didn’t feel a thing here in Middle Tennessee, but the USGS says that it was indeed on the New Madrid Fault. It’s strange that it rattled the other side of the state.

Silva December 12, 2018 at 5:16 PM

Yikes.

Original G December 12, 2018 at 5:07 PM

After having to buy new carburetor for the weed wacker and doing autopsy on old one, found it was time to get rid of the old steel gas can an go all plastic for gasoline storage. Bits of rust tend to plug up the ports in the carburetor.

Justifiable Languor December 13, 2018 at 6:25 AM

I have noticed an increase of typos in a variety of news articles, of late. A month or two ago, I also noticed my spell check was getting more creative and actually adding misspelled words to the offering.

Kirkwood December 13, 2018 at 1:47 PM

Accidental typos are usually distinguishable from outright ignorance or laziness. Even journalists, whose stock and trade is grammar and spelling seem to be falling down on the job, witness what you see on T.V. news or newspapers. I guess language evolves over time. The laziness of texting is finding its way into more formal documents.
My spell checker (Word) only adds words when told.

Justifiable Languor December 14, 2018 at 7:32 AM

You compose responses on a word processor? I didn’t think of that.

Kirkwood December 14, 2018 at 11:53 AM

JL – No, not usually, I’ve always been a pretty good speller but I do take enough time to try and organize my thoughts and proofread, to try and not make a fool of myself. I mentioned the spell checker because mine doesn’t automatically add words to the dictionary.

Justifiable Languor December 14, 2018 at 12:12 PM

My word processor is reliable. It is the online checker for as this site that wrong spellings are offered. This is on my hand held device only. The main computer with a key board does not.

I know a misspelled word when I see one for the most part. It’s when I am organizing my thoughts and typing with one finger that I have the mishaps. I usually catch my mistakes after I have posted, which is embarrassing. I miss the edit feature on this site.

Kentucky Derby December 14, 2018 at 12:29 PM

I never proofread my blog posts. I’m usually blogging at work, and I don’t take the time. If I make an occasional spelling or grammatical error, I couldn’t care less. There’s no reason to be embarrassed. To err is human.

Pleasant Hill Produce Market at Grayson and PH Road: I pop in the market every 4 days or so for fresh produce, dairy, cheese, staples. They currently have a beautiful selection of fresh pears, Bartlett, Anjou, Comice, Bosc, all varieties $1.99 a lb. They also carry Rumiano cheese from Crescent City (the best!) and local honeys, produce, and herbs, among other items. Lundberg rice priced lower than elsewhere. Locally owned and worth a visit for daily meal items.

Justifiable Languor December 13, 2018 at 5:53 PM
