Are they posting this early now??

Sick of it November 30, 2018 at 5:32 PM

People can we all try and drive a little safer. The crap I saw people doing yesterday in the rain was incredible. Speeding, running red lights, tailgating cutting into small opening in traffic instead of waiting to do it safely. On top of all that everyone seems to be so angry. What gives? Why do we have to endanger and be so rude and angry with each other

Concorejet December 1, 2018 at 10:12 AM

I understand your feeling it all about why are you in such a hurry ????

We got a robo call in Spanish today.
Are you kidding me, robo calls are bad enough and now in Spanish. We were all laughing that it even happened, but shows you this country is in the toilet..

Silva November 30, 2018 at 6:43 PM

If I got one of those at least I’d understand. All my foreign language robocalls are in Chinese. What’s this country coming to, I tell ya!!

Ancient Mariner November 30, 2018 at 7:39 PM

I’m getting the Chinese ones, too.

Nature Lover November 30, 2018 at 8:18 PM

I also get Chinese robo calls on my cell phone.

Jamess December 1, 2018 at 8:54 AM

For awhile we got one from the United Emeritus Republic. They would call about 11pm. It went on for a couple of weeks. I wish i knew a few words in that language. We finally just unplugged the phone when the call came in so they didn’t get any kind of answer at all.

Concorejet December 1, 2018 at 10:18 AM

I get a robo calls by the same caller each day and they copy your first 3 digit number and their own last 4 digits callers all about loan and health insurance I keep on answering the phone never know if it about the job I applied for because I even got a call from an interviewer that shows California for some reason. I one time miss al call about the job I applied for because I did not pick up the phone that shoes where it from “California” instead I let the voicemail get the phone. After I heard the voicemail I return the caller’s call back.

Bob November 30, 2018 at 5:50 PM

Hi, Is anybody else getting tired of “surveys”–no matter where I go or what I do, I get asked to complete a survey–the latest–went to my Doctor for a flu shot and got a severasl page survey on what I thought of my visit–and if you don’t fill out the hard copy, they follow up with a phone call (usually at dinner time)–just getting tired of surveys!!!

Smith December 2, 2018 at 3:31 PM

I don’t get it, either. They must be starved for complements, or really really insecure. Who is ever going to tell them the truth when they have all your account information including your address, phone number, other personal information? I’ve had some appalling experiences with people who answer the phone at doctors and dentists office, but they never ask for feedback. If you are doing your job well, you should be able to tell.

Where I worked, we were evaluated yearly after a probationary period of six months. If there was anything wrong you heard about it then. I can’t imagine how they can process all the data collected when you call customer service and they ask you to participate in a survey every time. It’s tiresome and I don’t do it. They can assume everthing is ok. I’ll certanly let them know when it isn’t.

Dorothy November 30, 2018 at 5:54 PM

Book report: The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, 1986. Before I go into this let me tell you why I decided to read it. First, I had never even heard of it until this year. I noticed some women at various protests dressed like nuns in red and heard their outfits were based on this book. Then I found out it had been a movie and even a TV program that I also never heard about. This book will pull you along in the story so that even if you want to stop reading, and I did, you don’t until the end. I don’t want to recommend it but I think people should read it. They won’t like it either.

Lynn November 30, 2018 at 8:40 PM

The author is writing a sequel, due to be published next September.

Justifiable Languor December 1, 2018 at 8:43 AM

I procured this waaaay back when I was collecting. I won’t say Handmaids Tale was a romp, but it is definitely a page turner. The beginning was chilling. Money was abolished and all credit was monitered. That way it was easy to herd the population. The female population.

It made the cut when down sizing.

Captain Bebops December 1, 2018 at 9:37 AM

The award winning Hulu series based on the book is spell-binding and popular much like “Breaking Bad” was a few years ago. They have a great setup for season 3. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with the Bradley Whitford character.

We were at El Molino’s the day they were filming it there.
It was a kick to watch them.
Our car was parked in the lot and it made it on the video.
Thanks for sharing this!!

“sick of it” up there reminded me: what ever became of that idiot that killed 3 people on Treat, westbound, a couple of years ago? Victims were a father and two daughters, as I recall, and the driver was named Rosen. What happened with him?

Will December 1, 2018 at 7:28 AM

To the parents of the three kindergarten aged girls walking alone in the bike lane of a very busy Clayton Rd just past the fire station at 3pm yesterday, shame on you for allowing that. Cars rushing past at 50mph and those poor kids were not even on a sidewalk. What parent allows those kids to walk there??? This has bothered me all night. I should have stopped and gotten them off the roadway but I didn’t want them to ‘run from a stranger’ right into traffic. Please if anyone local knows the parents that are allowing those girls to walk home from school in the roadway, tell them it’s not safe, not at all. I don’t want to see any child hit by a car.

MDUSDUGH December 1, 2018 at 9:27 AM

Dear People in MDUSD Ivory Tower,
Your staff is getting hurt daily by very violent students. You tell the staff it is their fault if they get hurt. It is hard to avoid being blindsided. When is this going to stop? Your teaching staff is tired of being spat on, hit, kicked, head butted.
Many staff members have talked to you, sent letters, begged for help. They have told you other students are in harms way. Broken bones, and permanent disability for staff, yet nothing changes.

I’ve recently stopped and vented to USPS, UPS, FEDEX and AMAZON delivery drivers and told them they all should be flipping burgers at McD’s instead of attempting to to deliver packages to correct streets and/or addresses.
I swear how do these people even qualify to deliver when they can’t even read a label.
Today again , USPS delivered my Amazon package 2 streets over, yesterday FedEx wrong street and wrong address. I caught the guy and gave him a piece of my mind right after someone brought me my package. Every week I redeliver packages that aren’t mine. At least we are paperless with our mail and don’t need to rely on those bufoons to deliver anymore, but now USPS is delivering for Amazon, you just can’t win with the battle of incompetence of delivery people.

I’m pretty well fed up with incompetence with delivery people.

Concorejet December 1, 2018 at 12:29 PM

UPS is also bad at their job too. I was waiting for my package to be delivered on the two days shipping. I did not get my package until 9:00pm I spent all day looking on the UPS web site for delivery status. By the time the clock reaches to 8:45pm the status said “In transit” mean it coming to my house. I waited outside for the truck pull over on the sideway and HE PAST my condo I had to go about a half a block to chase him down he finally stopped thinking it the right address. I told the driver I am expecting a package told him my him my name he said he dose not go by the name he goes by the address I told him my address and he gave me my package even without a signature even though I required a signature. He said Oh here it is and just left. Not a professional driver.

Carryon December 1, 2018 at 5:46 PM

Yup incompetent mentally challenged bufoons.
Delivery drivers aren’t the brightest.
I went to Lowe’s today and bought instead of Amazon. Same prices within a couple bucks, and no delivery BS.

anon December 2, 2018 at 9:22 PM

AND.. someone (a delivery company) in my kirkwood condo complex dropped a box at a first floor neighbor’s front door even though the package was clearly supposed to be delivered UP THE STAIRS at another door. Lazy asses!

WC Resident December 2, 2018 at 12:06 AM

FWIW – I generally get excellent service from all of the delivery services. I’ve had both USPS and UPS in the last couple of days. They delivered the right stuff to the right address, ring my doorbell, and are on time.

With one exception, I’ve never had a package stolen or lost. The exception was a package I shipped. It was in-transit and the FexEx truck caught on fire and destroyed my shipment somewhere in Sacramento. FexEx refused to pay up as I did not have the original receipt, etc. It was not worth my time to fight them on it.

There was a strangeness with UPS yesterday in that the “track the truck” thing they offer showed the truck working a street a couple blocks from me. There were many deliveries and so it was there for an hour working it’s way slowly up the street. It then went across to the other side of town for a while before coming back to my side of town.

Parma Deli in El Monte Center.
Min’s Kitchen (same center) serves some mighty fine chicken salad, too…. made into yummy sandwiches as well.

KAD December 2, 2018 at 10:26 PM

I was thinking restaurant but a recipe would be good too.

Thanks to Antler and Shasta Daisy.

slagheap December 2, 2018 at 5:52 PM

Safeway prices…
If you shop at Safeway regularly or buy your family groceries there, you are out of your god****ed mind. I stop in there for emergencies only, today, for instance. Wow, people get a clue. You are getting ripped off big-time if you’re dropping any real money there. $$$$$$$$$

anotheranon December 2, 2018 at 8:36 PM

Not only are Safeway’s prices going UP, but the checkers tend to be rather unfriendly. I’m about midway between the Safeway on Denkinger and the Lucky store at Alberta Way, so I shop at both, depending on what I need. I’ve noticed the staff at Lucky are considerably more outgoing and friendly than Safeway. I don’t go to a store just because of the attitude of the employees, but it is nice to see a smiling face at the register, instead of a scowl. Same goes for FoodMaxx; more smiles per dollar than Safeway.

Silva December 3, 2018 at 8:16 AM

I completely agree. I’ve refused to shop at Safeway since the late 90s when I’d had an inside look at the kind of REALLY dumb jerks “worked” at the top of their corporate ranks. Dumb and nice is one thing, but dumb jerks is quite another. I’m talking major devastatingly dumb. It was long ago, so it doesn’t count today, but their prices!!! My mom always went to Safeway, she really liked them but I’ve been using FoodMaxx among other stores. FoodMaxx just put in a whole lot of new refrigeration cases and prices have very dramatically risen accordingly though. They’ve gotta pay for them, I suppose. Still they’re lower than Safeway’s.

Kirkwood December 3, 2018 at 3:19 PM

Funny, I don’t remember having contact with a surly or indifferent server or checker. Try to smile and greet first to set the tone of the encounter and put you in control.

As for prices, the local (Clayton Station) Safeway, prices seem to HAVE risen faster than other stores so I only buy stuff I need immediately. Winco (Pittsburg)’s everyday prices are the same as sale/coupon prices at Safeway or Lucky, they have everything and atmosphere is pleasant. Produce is usually decent but can be freshened up at home in an hour or two.

WC Resident December 6, 2018 at 12:12 PM

All of the people and managers at my local Safeway, and all stores, are friendly to me.

As far as prices go, situational awareness is your best tool. Safeway sometimes has great deals. If you know the prices and availability of the usual things you get then you’ll recognize the deals when they are available.

Review your kitchen/pantry at home, make the shopping list, and stick to it. Never do impulse buys unless you spot a good deal on one of the things you normally use.

One nice thing about Safeway is that if you see an offer of “three for $1” for example then you can get one and they will charge you 33 cents. You don’t need to get three or whatever the offer is. For example, they had tortilla rolls at $5 for three packages. I don’t use them fast enough to use that much before they go stale but got one package and was charged $1.67.

A tip for Target is that often times their web site prices are lower than the in-store prices. Show the product page to the cashier and they will ring up the web price. The Target web site is also nice in that it tells you which isle an item is on and if it’s in stock. Walmart and Costco both don’t price match nor do their web sites tell you where in the store something is.

Whole Foods (aka Whole Paycheck) is consistently more expensive.

Smart & Final tends to have good prices but usually the selection is more limited and often times the packages are on the larger size.

I believe FoodMaxx has better prices. They are more out of the way for me and so I don’t keep tabs on them.

Lundardies, Diablo grocery, and surprisingly, Costco, all have better quality meat with Costco generally having the best prices.

PetSmart seems to have the best prices, and a great selection/variety, for cat food. I prefer getting pet food from local stores so that if the pet gets tired of something or does not like something that it’s easy to swap the cans out for something else.

Haven’t posted about this in a while, LMC Los Medanos Junior College has technical training programs for electrical maintenance and process control technology. Great way for a kid out of high school to take two years and come out with a skill set which is in demand and doesn’t require ridiculous commute distances and can start out making a LIVING WAGE.

What got motivated me to post about this again is this,
‘Robot Janitors Are Coming to Mop Floors at a Walmart Near You ‘

They may lay off minimum wage janitorial but they\re always gonna need someone to trouble shoot and repair the robots.

I went thru training program couple decades ago with my employer taught by an LMC instructor. That training program was eventually transferred to LMC and has grown.

Parents and Grand Parents take note if your kids are mechanically inclined, are fairly decent at math (I’m terrible) and can logically problem solve then they don’t need an expensive 4 – 6 year college education and debt to gain a skill set which pays well and is in demand.

Graduates of the LMC program are actively recruited by local industry sometimes before they even graduate.

Another person in South East US with a skill set in demand.
PLEASE read, he puts it so much better than I can.
