UPDATE: CVCHS Principal: We Learned About Possible Threat This Morning, Posting Never Mentioned Clayton Valley

September 17, 2018 16:40 pm · 19 comments

Clayton Valley Charter High School (CVCHS) Principal Jeff Anderson sent a follow-up email to parents this afternoon, saying they only learned about an alleged online threat this morning, and the posting never mentioned CVCHS.

Anderson previously said they learned about the threat over the weekend, and he claimed the threat was directed towards CVCHS.

The following information is from Principal Jeff Anderson:

Dear CVCHS Families,

Thank you for your patience and cooperation on this Monday. This is a follow-up to this morning’s communication. Shortly before school began today, CVCHS staff was made aware of an apparent post put on social media over the weekend. The post contained information about a threat directed towards a school (Clayton Valley was NOT mentioned in the post).

Please note, we are updating our earlier communication regarding the timing of when this information came to the attention of the staff and administration at school. It was only when a student shared the information this morning that we became aware of the alleged threat posted online. We apologize if our earlier message caused any concern. CVCHS always strives to communicate with parents as quickly and as accurately as possible.

For clarity, we have included an image of the social media post with this communication. In addition, we would like to clarify that this is the only information that was shared with us. As you can see it is referencing another post on social media. Currently, no one has located or shared the post being referenced below.

Please know that the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority and we take any threat seriously. We have collaborated with the Concord City Police Department on this issue. Officers were on campus periodically today supporting our efforts and assisting in ensuring the safety of all our students and staff. CVCHS will continue to partner with them as needed.

Classes, practices, and other activities operated normally today and that will continue tomorrow. If any new information comes to light on this matter, we will share it as soon as possible.

In addition, an auto call will be coming out with a similar update. CVCHS will be reviewing our campus-wide communication procedures to ensure we communicate as quickly as possible in as many modalities as we can.

If you have any information regarding this incident, you can email information to info@claytonvalley.org. Please assist us in keeping our phone lines open by communicating via email.

Thank you,
Jeff Anderson
Principal

Concord Police say they will continue to investigate and monitor this matter.

Previous email sent to parents from CVCHS Principal Jeff Anderson:

Dear CVCHS Families,

This communication is to inform you that over the weekend we were made aware of a social media post that contained a threat directed towards Clayton Valley Charter High School. Please know that the safety of students and staff is always our top priority and we take any threat seriously. We have communicated with the Concord City Police department and we will continue to partner with them while we research this issue. Out of an abundance of caution, we will have law enforcement presence on campus periodically as we have classes operating as normal. If you have chosen for your child to stay home today due to this incident, please make sure you have contacted our attendance office so we are aware that they are not in school today. Please look for an additional communication to come out later today as we get additional information.

If you have any specific questions or information regarding this incident we ask that you please email information to info@claytonvalley.org. We are asking you to email in order to keep our phone lines open.

Thank you,

Jeff Anderson

Hi Claycord! Thanks for keeping us up to date. Was sad to see CVCHS in the news this Monday for this reason. Any chance you can share the POSITIVE report about what CVCHS accomplished this weekend? The CVCHS Eagle Marching Band took 1st place and the coveted Walnut King Trophy home from the Twilight Parade. 1st time ever!!! Woot woot…go Eagle Marching Band! Happy to send a pic if you want to run this happy, good news story about some really talented and hard working students at CVCHS!

The sad thing is that most people are more interested in a viral taped video featuring Clayton Valley cheerleaders participating in a fight. It Makes me sad that students would even tape this and continue to circulate it. Sad times! Yes, more positive news please!

WC Resident September 18, 2018 at 12:31 AM

I was not aware of the fight until you brought it up. Google… That was a nice beat down of someone who fully deserved one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkAdRsvBsuI

The Grant September 18, 2018 at 11:02 AM

Damn. That pint-sized cheerleader seriously kicked some butt.

BOOYAH! September 17, 2018 at 5:44 PM

So which is it Anderson? I would guess safety is NOT your highest priority.

Ano September 17, 2018 at 5:55 PM

I hope everyone sees that this school is pulling your chain. They are trying to make you look left instead of what is really going on. If you guys only investigated on your own you would see all the smoke screens.

Anon September 17, 2018 at 6:38 PM

They need to sic the cheerleaders on such miscreants.

ZZ September 17, 2018 at 8:04 PM

For sure! Lol

Was CVHS fraught with as much mismanagement before it went charter? To alert the community that a direct threat was made against the school over the weekend then change it to “this morning” about “A school” is irresponsible, immature, unprofessional, and akin to the conspiracy theories spread about “pizzagate” and other false stories. The behavior of the administration is egregious. If I still had kids in school, they would not attend this one!

jon s September 17, 2018 at 11:03 PM

you would think they could use the proper spelling on the warning if it’s a school,”we cant let this get passed us”??
“get past us”
Sounds like a great school.

Lena September 19, 2018 at 7:58 AM

Excellent observation @jon s. What are they teaching there? Certainly not readin’ writin’ and ‘rithmetic. Cheerleaders in a beat down, football players holding up their dope dealer with a gun? Makes the while community look trashy. Many thanks to the Clayton City Council for bringing this wretched school to town. How can we thank them? Maybe by voting them all out of office and replacing the City Manager who okayed the use of taxpayer money to fund the whole ugly mess. They can all then just crawl back under their rocks.

If you two would like to compare test scores (the only real parameter available) between CVCHS and the MDUSD high schools, I don’t think CV would shrink from the challenge.

Furious Dad September 18, 2018 at 12:40 AM

CVCHS’s administration is a joke. They waited until our kids showed up and attendance was taken to tell us about the threat. They wanted to make sure that they got their money first. They didn’t even tell the students that there was a threat. The students found out after their parents were texting them. The school repeatedly tells us how much they value our kids but what they really mean is that value the money they get for our kids’ but is in their seats. The greed always has a way of shining through. Parents are so tired of being lied to. How about a little transparency for a change? If you messed up, own it. Anderson is a bold faced liar. He needs to go. I speak from first hand experience. Do the right thing and tell the truth.

Choice September 18, 2018 at 8:22 AM

Fortunately, you have a choice of schools to send your child to.

Rollo Tomasi September 19, 2018 at 6:52 PM

You mentioned “threat” twice. What threat? The school acted on a vague tweet that referenced another vague tweet (that nobody could find) containing a supposed threat.
Choice is correct. You have options regarding where your child attends school.

Speaking of CVHs. I was very impressed with their marching band and Pep Squad at the Walnut Festival Parade on Saturday. They showed a lot of spirit. Good job Eagles!

Elda September 19, 2018 at 10:04 AM

My son’s teacher asked me if I could pick him up, when I said yes, she just sent him to the front door on the avenue, I wonder … what if the threat was real and she did not mind risking my son, I’m really upset
