Thanks for the GREAT tunes Silva.
It doesn’t get any better than Huey Piano Smith.
I heard Little Richard say that he wrote Tutti Frutti
while he was washing dishes at the Greyhound
Bus Depot in Macon Georgia. The pots and pans
flying around made the sound “Ah wop bop a lu
bop ah lop bam boom!”
Do you know Little Richard’s last name?
(There’s a street with the same name in Walnut

Shoulda Coulda July 7, 2018 at 10:49 PM

Silva- In the song Wooly Bully, do you know
what the line “Lets not be L7, come and learn
to dance” means.

RunnerDope July 9, 2018 at 9:19 AM

Penniman, where’s that in WC?

RunnerDope July 9, 2018 at 9:34 AM

L7 = square

Silva July 9, 2018 at 12:56 PM

Shoulda Coulda, I saw him say that in an interview about “Tutti Frutti”. Mr. Richard Penniman. I love that man. No, I do not know
what the line “Lets not be L7, come and learn to dance” means.

Shoulda Coulda July 9, 2018 at 2:14 PM

Penniman Way is off of Lawrence Way
and connects with N. Main St.
It was named after Hiram Penniman
(not Little Richard) an early settler who
lived at The Shadelands Ranch.
(Now a museum on Ygnacio Valley Rd.)
Chicken dinner winner for knowing “L7”
meant “Square”.

I wish some parents made a effort to keep their young adult children in check. AND I wish if someone ever caught mine out of line in public, they let me know ASAP by texting me a photo or social media link. I think they need more guidance before it’s too late.

Dorothy July 6, 2018 at 9:43 PM

Saw “Won’t you be my neighbor” today. Good movie and needed to counteract some of the ones they make now.

SF oh July 7, 2018 at 8:03 AM

I saw “Won’t You Be My Neighbor”, also. My kids always watched Mr Rogers’ show. We thought the movie was excellent. I would recommend it whether you’re familiar with Mr. Rogers, or not.

Derb July 7, 2018 at 8:47 AM

We also saw “Won’t You Be My Neighbor” & thought it was fantastic. Another good one to see is “RBG”!

Silva July 7, 2018 at 8:54 AM

Fred Rogers is my hero. Thanks for posting this!

Atticus Thraxx July 7, 2018 at 12:46 PM

Where is it showing?

SF oh July 7, 2018 at 1:48 PM

We saw it at the Century in Pleasant Hill.

I went to the new AAA office in the Veranda Mall today. I couldn’t believe how small the room was and it was filled with people sitting and waiting to be helped. I turned around and walked out. Then I went to DMV and couldn’t find a place to park so I left. Why is DMV allowed to look like crap? Where’s code enforcement? The lawns were dead and trash all over. I guess Concord is going to be another Oakland.

KAD July 7, 2018 at 12:31 PM

Do they still have their office next to DMV?

The Fractionator July 7, 2018 at 1:25 PM

Had the same problem with the new AAA Office at the Veranda Shopping Center. After waiting for about 20 minutes without any of the customers moving we left. Went to the AAA Office in PH, by Kohl’s, and got waited on in a few minutes but I’ve also heard there has been long waits there. AAA get your act together and provider better customer service!

Driver July 8, 2018 at 1:29 PM

ANON…I agree, the new AAA office at the Veranda is not an improvement. It’s a small stuffy room and the old AAA, was much nicer, do not understand why they would move.

DMV offices in Oakland look much better than the Concord DMV office.
Why would you compare that two ????

Questions July 7, 2018 at 6:01 AM

I always see “Silver Alerts” on the CHP Log with minimal information if any at all. I have yet to find a website with information about the alerts. Does anyone know of a site that is designated for the alerts?

Does anyone know what business is moving into the old Beverly’s Fabrics store on Clayton Road and the old do-nut shop a couple doors down from Beverly’s?

Thanks in advance.

Shoulda Coulda July 7, 2018 at 6:19 PM

Definition of a Silver Alert-

Questions July 8, 2018 at 5:07 AM

Shoulda thanks but that is the definition for a Silver Alert however not any alerts. The reason I’m looking for a site that has information about someone missing is that the more people looking for the missing person just might help find them sooner.

Ahhhhhh Atticus, you beat me to the quick. Am I that transparent? Why yes, yes I am.
Looks like a regular AK. Not sure about the other one.

Ancient Mariner July 7, 2018 at 12:36 PM

Well Atticus, I think Enfield’s right about the AK – I think I’d call it an AK-54, what with the straighter magazine and odd-looking forestock.
The other one looks like a chopped-down M-16.
Thanks for the great list!

Atticus Thraxx July 7, 2018 at 1:10 PM
Ancient Mariner July 7, 2018 at 5:41 PM

How can the acolyte contradict the master?

With all humility, Atticus, yes, I misidentified the FARC weapon as an AK. I should have seen the left-handed safety catch.
My uncle in Buenos Aires would not recognize your picture, however.
It’s a Galil – a rifle which borrowed much from the AK (hence my misidentification).
Here’s a left-side pic:

Note the three through-bolts by the trigger, the shape of the safety-catch and the round-shaped indentation in the receiver.

I stand by my “chopped M-16” comment, though.

Atticus Thraxx July 7, 2018 at 7:02 PM

Now that is interesting Ancient One. If so, and I agree with you (nicely done) how do FARC militants get their hands on Israeli stuff and equally curious the M4A1 with Close Quarter Battle Receiver (MK-18). I guess it’s just a great big flea market out there. FARC to the extent I’m aware had one of the more financially successful left wing guerilla armies. I know those last six words don’t make sense, but it’s true.

Concord Grape July 7, 2018 at 8:55 AM

For you Comcast users, what is your opinion? On a scale from 1 to 10, mine is about a 1.2 ( 10 being the best)

Dorothy July 7, 2018 at 10:54 AM

0.00 is the best I can give them.

Lorelei July 7, 2018 at 9:20 PM

I’ve had WAVE broadband service for over 10 years and I LOVE it! Their representatives are helpful and kind and their prices are excellent! I give WAVE my HIGHEST recommendation!

KAD July 7, 2018 at 10:37 PM

You can’t beat WAVE for their customer service. Their service does not go down either. Getting a little pricey for me but I will not go with Comcast.

Silva July 10, 2018 at 12:43 PM

Concord Grape, since you posted your question I have had to renegotiate my Comcast/Xfinity contract again. It happens every year for me. I have been trained for decades to do it this way, but each time I’m increments more fed up with it. The best they can ever offer me is to pay 5 to 10 dollars more per month, and the loss of one of the bells and whistles we had before. This time the only thing left to reduce was internet speed, and I’m trying it out. My husband is the one who watches the TV, and he didn’t like the Roku we tried. Though it seems to have thousands of channels, he missed the local stations and network TV too much. He felt he had to do too much research to find out what he wanted to watch. Comcast customer service is the worst. I detest the long menus directing you multiple times to take care of your needs some other way besides talking to a person, and you know you need an agent, but finally getting someone and after clearly stating the issue multiple times, you get asked stupid questions that you already explained, then having to do it all over with another 2 to 4 reps before finally being directed to someone competent who understands and helps.. assuming no one has disconnected you anywhere along the way and starting over again.

Mona Liza July 7, 2018 at 11:06 AM

I cut the Comcast tv cable a year ago. Only have internet. Never watched “half hour idiot programs” anyway. I get news free on Roku or on my laptop, adroid etc
Don’t miss it one bit, plus I pay half of what I used to pay. Try it. You’ll like it.

Cowellian July 7, 2018 at 12:08 PM

I had Comcast as my Internet provider for several years, but I fired them last week. I got a massive price-hike, and they wouldn’t even talk to me. Now, I have AT&T Fiber for considerably less than Comcast’s regular internet.

Enfield303 July 7, 2018 at 11:37 AM

I guess the pak 40 doesn’t come with earplugs. Ouch

Silva July 7, 2018 at 7:19 PM

WC Resident July 7, 2018 at 10:56 PM

@Silva – see “PAK-40. Eats tanks” above. The lack of ear protection surprised me.

Silva July 8, 2018 at 7:08 PM

Silva July 8, 2018 at 9:43 PM

Just kidding. But my ears haven’t stopped ringing since I watched that.

anon July 7, 2018 at 11:49 AM

I went to Wave after Comcast kept raising the rates every month. It got up to over $200 a month. I think Wave is around $70 a month with telephone, internet and tv.

Pony July 7, 2018 at 12:17 PM

Don’t worry, Wave will raise it. Mine is now over $250. I pay $63 for the pass thru fees on expanded basis. Another $12 for access to local channels. The core bundle is $144.

Tsa July 7, 2018 at 2:05 PM

Went for a walk on 7/4 for 30 mins and saw 31 vehicles with expired registration. Is there any enforcement of this in Concord? I think not!!!

Driver July 8, 2018 at 1:41 PM

I think not, also. Next time take notice of how many outrageously loud cars drive the streets of Concord not one is stopped for being offensively loud.

Kirkwood July 10, 2018 at 11:54 AM

A fix-it ticket for pipes has the same fine as one for a taillight, hardly worth the time or trouble except as a safety issue. Also, the pipes offender will undo the fix as soon as the vehicle is signed off.

Anon July 10, 2018 at 1:25 PM

Nope, CPD needs a special “grant” from the Dept of Oblivion to bother with these issues.

Tinted Windshields or Paper plates on a 20 year old vehicle, Seriously?!?!

WC Resident July 7, 2018 at 4:35 PM

If you ask, the cable company will nearly always knock the rate back down to close to the introductory rate. For example, the intro rate for my AT&T Internet service was $30/month for 12 months. It was going to jump to $70. In the 11th month I called to complain about the upcoming rate increase. They offered $40 which I accepted. It’s remained at $40 ever since.

Mika July 7, 2018 at 5:06 PM

I’ve had Comcast since moving to this area40 years ago. I have cable and internet for about $130 month. Tons of channels and fastest internet for all my wireless devices. Happy customer.

Mika July 7, 2018 at 5:14 PM

When is El Pollo Loco on Monument going to open? ? ?

Kentucky Derby July 7, 2018 at 5:21 PM

Everything is negotiable. If you master the “art of negotiation” at a young age, you won’t pay full price for anything. I recently negotiated our AT&T U-Verse. They lowered the price (again) and threw in a $100.00 gift card that I gave to my elderly mom. We’re paying what we were paying several years ago, and my husband and I take turns negotiating. We ALWAYS throw in the word “referral” because all companies want your business, as well as the business of everyone you know. I always ask for a mgr. because they’ll cut you a better deal.

Justifiable Languor July 9, 2018 at 7:38 AM

I had the same experience with Comcast. My rates were rising slowly then jumped. I called to question and they offered a new agreement 40 bucks cheaper. Not as good as your negotiating, but still, it is worth the effort.

Kentucky Derby July 9, 2018 at 9:50 AM

JL – It is worth the effort. Nice to read you’re getting a good deal…

Anonymous July 7, 2018 at 9:19 PM

Today I turned in CNN , only to watch for news about the kids trapped in the cave in Thailand. I previously quit watching cable because their main job is cranking up viewers with outrage.

Hoping for some straight news I watched CNN broadcast a story about the kids. They had a nice drawing of the situation . The kids are over a mile from the surface. CNN then produced an expert. The commentator noted it was11PM in Thailand and asked if it was darker in the cave because it’s night time there.

That was one of the stupidest questions I have ever heard .

I hope they get those brave kids out alive.

Your life choices are your own, but if you’re financially stable, what’s preventing you from renting your own 1 bedroom someplace in Concord? I know prices are a bit on the crazy side but there are always deals to be had from place to place. And you get to have your own apartment.

To answer your question, Craigslist is one of the more frequented places. There are some apps too, but I’d try Craigslist first.

So many people could see it as redistribution of wealth. I would hope they will track and publish their findings.

If I have an extra $500 a month, I will eat out more, visit the bookstore more, buy that outfit I knew I couldn’t afford, (stimulating economy), and maybe take my kid to the dentist more than once a year. Or I would save it all up and buy myself a fabulous telescope to watch the heavens and contemplate the awe of the universe.

The bummer of this will be when that $500 a month stops.

Antler July 11, 2018 at 9:22 AM

Hi, Pleasant Jenny! I would like to know the answer to your question, too.
Late yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon, two Army helicopters headed vaguely in the direction of Buchanan Field flew low over our house… just barely cleared the neighbor’s row of Coast Redwoods! (I say “vaguely in the direction of…” because sometimes small craft flying VFR will vector off the corner of our property and then follow Bailey Road on over to the river corridor.)

Anon July 11, 2018 at 9:37 AM

Yes, Buchanan does whatever it wants.
Horrible neighbors.
