Back in the day, they gave away matches for EVERYTHING!

This match book came from a pet shop in Walnut Creek called the “Dimond Pet Shop”. It was located on Locust St.

The building doesn’t have a pet shop anymore, it’s a Chinese restaurant.

QUESTION: Do you remember any pet shops around Claycord back in the 50s, 60s, 70s or 80s? If so, which one was your favorite?

ABOUT THE CLAYCORD ONLINE MUSEUM: The Claycord Online Museum is made up of historical photos, documents & anything else that has to do with the history of our area.

If you have any old photos or items that you’d like to place in the Claycord Online Museum, just scan or take a photo of them, and send them to the following address: It doesn’t matter what it is, even if it’s just an old photo of your house, a scan of an old advertisement or an artifact that you’d like us to see, send it in and we’ll put it online!

” The building doesn’t have a pet shop anymore, it’s now a Chinese restsurant “. Gee, that statement could be taken the wrong way!

so, would you say that when the place was purchased they already had some ingredients for the kitchen?

I had a Chinese co-worker who told me that in China, if it moves, it’s food.

someone told me, in Shanghai, if it has four legs except a table they will eat it. If it has two legs and not a human being, they will eat it.

Too young to remember Dimond, but I do remember the days when pet stores would have the open bins of puppies and kittens to play with. Kids these days are missing out.

Frank’s Feed had two locations in Concord the last being in the shopping center at Concord Blvd. and Landana……Chris the Monkey lived there.

Lafayette had one also. And was there one at the Sunvalley Mall? I do remember one selling puppies at Hill Top in Richmond.

Dimond pet shop was the worst. Smelly with dirty fish tanks. Only thing I ever bought there was feeder goldfish. I think they were twenty cents each. Fred my voracious Oscar would stuff em down like anything. His story has been told before on this site if you care to look it up.

Pets Plus. Used to be in the Terminal Shopping center around the corner. They always had mix breed puppies for sale. Back then a mutt would cost you $30. Now they want $1500-2000. They also had an aquarium section. Some birds and Chinchilla’s.

Sun Valley mall had a pet shop. Lots of over-priced puppy mill dogs. Of course kids could play with them. What better way to put emotional pressure on parents?
