I went to Corner Bakery Cafe yesterday in downtown Pleasant Hill at 12:30. Besides having a hard time finding parking, I was shocked by how packed the bakery was! I thought after the recent Claycord article anouncing an infestation and shut down, there would not be a single soul there. What happened? I guess people don’t mind eating in filth?

And why were there a ton of juveniles runnng around downtown, many of whom had shirts and ties on?

Why was the downtown area this busy?

Jojo Potato June 8, 2018 at 9:45 PM

Lots of schools were having graduation this week.

ML June 8, 2018 at 9:48 PM

Schools out & you were going to eat there if you could find a parking spot, so why make nasty remarks about others going to the same place as you to eat

concord ygnacio June 8, 2018 at 7:58 PM

Just a note to readers of

There were recent articles in Claycord recently alerting readers to the closing by the Health Department of Corner Bakjery Cafe, Original Pancake House, and House of Sake. Subsequently, the Yelp! pages for each restaurant had negative reviews citing the Claycord articles and posting pictures stolen from Claycord! I contacted Yelp! and complained. Here is an example of such a review and stolen pic from

I reported this review yesterday and they will remove it in the next day hopefully.

Yelp! always agrees with me and emails me as follows:

We’re writing to let you know that we’ve evaluated [deleted].’s review of The Original Pancake House that you recently reported. After assessing the review carefully against our Content Guidelines, we agree that this review should be removed.

We rely on community engagement to help keep Yelp useful. Thanks so much for taking the time to bring this matter to our attention!

For further information on using Yelp, please find answers to frequently asked questions in our Support Center (

Please do not make me hve to work harder so I have to report illicit Yelp! reviews by Claycorders. Your review will only be removed. And do not steal photos from Claycord. Thank you.

Cowellian’s First!
Y’all have a great weekend.

Mika June 8, 2018 at 8:01 PM

MDUSD board president Debra Mason was at my kids high school graduation last night as a dignatary. Sad part was she didn’t take the effort to dress as a dignatary. Sat in the front row on the stage looking like someone’s grandma dressed to go grocery shopping. Poor taste and lack of respect for the occasion at hand.

anonares June 9, 2018 at 9:09 AM

@Mika Debra and her husband spend their spare time doing volunteer work on many community projects. Neither have large salaries and over the 25 years I have been lucky enough to know them, She attends many graduation events also. Please be kind to her.

CDE Watcher June 9, 2018 at 12:07 PM

If this is the level of respect you can demonstrate for an elected role that pays under $10,000 per year maybe you can afford to step up and put yourself on November’s ballot and show us all how dedicated and devoted you are to all the students, no matter who they are or where they come from. You should feel honored she chose your ceremony when there are so many to pick from.

Got a little bit ‘o the devil in ’em:

Happens all the time. People are stupid:

Instead of being inspired or amazed, I was wondering when he buys a pair of shoes does he leave the one he doesn’t need at the store or wait till he gets home and throw it out? Or does he have a room in his place filled with left shoes from all the pairs he bought? Stuff like this used to keep me up at night:

Ends just as you hoped it would:

How to draw a ladybug:

All r mine. Mine!:

You’re both wrong, it’s Rudy Gulliani:

Just because:

Very, very bad idea:

Bad kitty, bad!:

Check yourself cat, before I wreck yourself:

Coming in here with your toy-a$$ed gun…:

A kinda race I’ve never seen before:

This one is for all ya’ll!:

KinseyLeaky June 8, 2018 at 8:41 PM

Even with the big fireworks bust recently they are still readily available to get locally just asking around.
It will still be a good 4th around here with private fireworks.

Stop look and listen June 8, 2018 at 8:54 PM

What’s with all the sirens around marker pass and clayton?

Kirkwood June 8, 2018 at 8:58 PM

!0 Concord police cars just ended a chase on Concord Blvd at Las Ramblas, traffic stopped at Kirker Pass.

Kirkwood June 8, 2018 at 9:15 PM

20 minutes later, still about 8 police cars, they are searching a small white sedan.
I’m watching from my kitchen window.

marinemom June 8, 2018 at 9:17 PM

8 cop cars speeding down Clayton Rd anyone know what’s going on?

anon June 8, 2018 at 9:38 PM

Rain and Shine car wash was robbed and then Togo’s was robbed a little while later.

ConcordKate June 8, 2018 at 9:32 PM

So sad to hear about Anthony Bourdain. RIP.

Atticus Thraxx June 8, 2018 at 10:42 PM

The David Bowie of cooking. The House of Thraxx mourns. 🙁

Who? June 9, 2018 at 6:59 AM

Never heard of him. Either not that famous or really old.

KinseyLeaky June 9, 2018 at 3:01 PM

I also had to look up who he was and also that Kate woman as I never heard of her either.

Lena June 11, 2018 at 4:29 PM

Rest in peace, Anthony Bourdain. A huge loss to the culinary world. I only saw a couple of his shows before I lost cable, but he was quite an adventuresome man. I wouldn’t have been able to watch anyway because the stuff he ate doesn’t appeal to me, but in his book, “Kitchen Confidential,” he gave tips on dining out that might interest Claycordians, what with all the restaurant closures.

Mitch June 9, 2018 at 12:18 AM

Anyone know why 680 South is closed in PH?

Shasta Daisy June 9, 2018 at 12:11 PM

Cheers, from Dublin, Ireland.
Toured the Guinness Brewery today.

Cowellian June 9, 2018 at 3:21 PM

My son toured Guinness a few years ago. He really enjoyed it, but then, unlike his father, he actually likes their beer.

Lovelace June 9, 2018 at 4:17 PM

I was in Germany 2 weeks ago sampling many beers.
My favorite was an unfiltered dark wiesen. (Wheat beer)
If you get a chance goto a market and check out the cheese. If it’s like other European countries it will blow your mind
Safe travels….

jtkatec June 12, 2018 at 11:23 AM

Oh, I’m so jealous, Shasta. I haven’t been back to Dublin for about 25 yrs. It probably hasn’t much changed, but now I hear you can get across Ireland without the jaunting cart!

KAD June 9, 2018 at 2:45 PM

Clayton is not going to be getting that very large assisted living facility after all.

Dr Jellyfinger June 9, 2018 at 7:28 PM

Good! Now everyone can get real and let an old style Mel’s Drive In open up there where we can go in our old classic cars & hot rods to order hamburgers, fries & shakes from busty waitresses on roller skates.

Concord Grape June 9, 2018 at 3:59 PM

Claytonites (????)_ don’t like old people. NOT IN MY BACKYARD!!!!

KAD June 9, 2018 at 7:26 PM

It was too large and did not fit in with the surroundings.

Lena June 12, 2018 at 6:43 PM

Clayton maintains policies openly hostile to singles and seniors. Not the place for you if you plan to buy a home, eventually retire, and age in place.

Henley's Antiques and Collectibles June 9, 2018 at 4:19 PM

Henley’s Antiques and Collectibles is back open after a month of restocking and remodeling.

Come see what’s “new”!

Has anyone else experienced long lines at the Wells Fargo on Thornwood Dr.? Twice in the last week I was in there and only one window was open and employees standing around doing nothing.

Justyfiable Languor June 10, 2018 at 7:48 AM

Justyfy. 13th winner of the Triple Crown. Atta boy!

Kentucky Derby June 10, 2018 at 12:35 PM

Yes! Triple Crowns are exciting! I’ve always wanted to go to the Kentucky Derby. Maybe one day…

Justyfiable Languor June 11, 2018 at 4:58 PM

Start designing your hat… and you might want to consider Galoshes.

Pleasant Hill Citywide Cleanup: For those of you in PH, the annual citywide Spring Cleanup is this week on our normal trash day, Thurs, Jun 14. Items must be 4 ft or less in length, and bundles 50 lbs or less.

If you have larger items to dispose of, including furniture and appliances, PH residents get 2 free bulky pickups per year. Call Republic Services to schedule.

KAD June 10, 2018 at 4:51 PM

I sure wish Concord had this service. The City would have less trash on the streets.

Anon June 11, 2018 at 7:10 AM

Late last night and today, I cannot log into my normal sites, claycord being one of them. Anyone else experiencing trouble with Comcast internet?

Silva June 11, 2018 at 12:42 PM

Ladies, at first glance (and all too often second and third) your leg tattoos look like varicose veins. You’re welcome.

This is too funny. I know the City wants to make Concord a destination city but I don’t think that is going to happen.

Aileen Gram-Reefer June 14, 2018 at 7:51 AM

They went to Waterworld and Mt Diablo. wow.

Silva Harr June 14, 2018 at 9:06 AM

I wonder which hotel they chose. Guess they can’t say. And how much that nice video cost us to produce.

Are there any other activities that a family with young children planning a mini vacation to our fair city might be enticed to travel here to do (to spend their money) besides an unprotected mall or strip malls, fast food joints and corporate restaurant chains? Maybe we can help them out.

Silva June 14, 2018 at 4:13 PM

Oh, how could I have left out the Pavilion? Probably because I haven’t been for 30 years.

Jojo Potato June 13, 2018 at 5:13 PM

Is there a law that requires me to have a mailbox? Today I got two giant Restoration Hardware catalogues totalling about one thousand pages. I don’t want them. I don’t want to have to get them so I can throw em out! There’s nothing in the box that matters to me. Is there a way to stop this waste? Thanks.

Mary Fouts June 14, 2018 at 2:18 PM

Jojo Potato – I hear you on the Restoration Hardware catalog stack. Crazy! I get them, too.

To the best of my knowledge (I’m not an attorney), you are not legally required to have a physical mailbox at your residence. (Carmel prohibits household mail delivery, and exclusively uses PO Boxes.) However, there’s a catch. Many government documents/items require you to have an address to which the documents/items (drivers license, tax items, passport, etc.) can be mailed. That address could be a PO Box, or a private mailbox at a UPS store.

Lena June 15, 2018 at 12:58 PM

You can register online and opt out of receiving a lot of junk mail at DMA Choice. I did it around 2003 or so and kept the mailbox pretty clean for many year. Junk mail will start to trickle back in if you order things by mail or give your address online, because they sell your information, Still, it really cut down on the recycling.

There is also a website to stop receiving catalogues. I registered there to stop some that just wouldn’t give up when I no longer was ordering from them, and it worked.

Finally, the ones that weren’t covered by these two sites I contacted directly.

christine Leykam June 14, 2018 at 10:33 AM

There is an empty house had a fire months ago, lots of debris in front yard. People are not living there, two cars parked in driveway for months. City cannot even find this on their map (code enforcement). A real eyesore plus lots of high weeds in yard. Address 1642 Clayton Way. Could you make some waves????? Thanks Christine Leykam
