Unemployment rates were below 3 percent in all but one of the nine San Francisco Bay Area counties in April, according to the California Employment Development Department.

San Mateo County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2 percent followed by San Francisco and Marin counties at 2.1 percent.

Solano County had the highest rate in the area at 3.6 percent, employment officials said.

Statewide the unemployment rate was 4.2 percent, the lowest ever. Nationally, the unemployment rate was 3.9 percent.

The results of a Dem run state.

concord ygancio May 20, 2018 at 12:39 PM

I agree. Thanks to the democrats, we have low unemployment.

Demofornia unemployment is still worse than average for the nation, and still the highest rate of homelessness, and the highest rate of income inequality.

Even in the best of times, California Democrats still find a way to mess things up.

Really? It wasn’t but a few years ago when the state unemployment rate was much higher. Right now, national unemployment is quite low, too. That certainly isn’t due to government run by democrats.

It’s not just in California. Unemployment is at an all time low all over the country.

Well, you have Obama to thank for getting us out of the worst recession since the Great Depression. Although, Trump seems to be trying his best to get us into another recession with all the trade wars he’s trying to start. Good thing we’ll have another Democrat in a few years to fix all the screw ups that always happen under Republican rule.

Does anyone know how this data is gathered?

Fred May 20, 2018 at 1:13 PM

US Dept of Labor and the California equivelant. It’s about 10 pages of statistics.

Nunya May 20, 2018 at 12:17 PM

As always do these number include those who have given up?

concord ygnacio May 20, 2018 at 12:38 PM

No they do not include discouraged workers, which is an oxymoron btw. If they started to look again, they would find a job. You really can’t include them if they have given up since they aren’t looking. Not fair to the system.

” Nationally the unemployment rate was 3.9%” Blame Trump!!!!

Randy May 20, 2018 at 2:37 PM

Clearly he’s not doing as good a job as Gov Brown.

Lena May 20, 2018 at 12:32 PM

Thank you President Donald Trump #MAGA

Fred May 20, 2018 at 1:14 PM

Check out the participation rate which is people who are under-employed or are no longer collecting unemployement. That is closer to 12%

A rising tide lifts all ships. Amazing that with all the stock market gains in the last 18 months and CA economy realizing great benefits from federal tax cuts, CA corrupt public pension system is still a ticking time bomb that will take us all down.

Lena May 20, 2018 at 10:15 PM

It would not surprise me if some of those state retirees get a rude awakening a few years into retirement when the state informs them that they are cutting their retirement income and health benefits.

Anyone know we we can no longer edit comments once made? This seemed to occur after a glitch I had a few days ago, where the first page of this site opened to 2016 postings on my cell phone, even after cache was cleared.

They have been discussing it on Whatever. Apparently, several people have been affected.

Tim S May 20, 2018 at 3:01 PM

Now how many of those are underemployed considering the exorbitant cost of living in California? Because I suspect it’s pretty damn high.

Jeff d May 20, 2018 at 4:27 PM

All I can say is MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!! Thanks

TaxPayer May 20, 2018 at 7:02 PM

All ships rise with the tide … Thanks Trump

anyone looking for a qualified problem solver? great typing speed and work ethics, personable, willing to go the extra mile. i’m working two jobs to try to get by but neither have any benefits. getting sick isn’t an option when you’re losing a minimum of $150 in pay per day

Law Dog May 22, 2018 at 7:55 AM

That’s why we are taxed to death.
