Get out and vote!

And Please For The Love Of God, No More Democrats.

Badge1104 May 11, 2018 at 8:22 PM

Chubby May 11, 2018 at 8:50 PM

While I agree with your sentiment, “no more Democrats” , I find it lacking context and perhaps even a little misleading. By omission it implies to me that Republicans are a better option. I don’t agree with that across the board. I believe that “none of the above” is the sensible position when faced with universal bipartisan corruption and ineptitude. It is our responsibility as citizens to forge a better path.

Roz May 11, 2018 at 9:04 PM

Sending out my mail in ballot tomorrow 🙂

Nunya May 12, 2018 at 4:32 AM

I tried None of the Above in hopes it would strike a cord with other voters in 2012 with no luck. As to any implication that Republicans are better on my part it was unintended I assure you. All career politicians should be voted out and replaced by rational American citizens who are there to serve America and American citizens not to get rich and be set for life.

IMHO after 30 years of a super-majority of Democrats we disparately need a change here.

Chubby May 12, 2018 at 4:06 PM

@Nunya thanks for the clarification. Along those lines, I ain’t voting for the incumbent Tim Grayson for State Assembly. But unfortunately he is running unopposed. I thought that young Concord High grad was going to run against him. I went to his website and it was sort of under construction, no content. Now I can’t remember his name. Does anyone know what happened with that? Probably didn’t qualify by some deadline?

Vote It May 12, 2018 at 8:45 AM

CoCo District Attorney – thoughts?

I am beginning research. Having learned that the current/interim DA purposefully plagiarized her application, has not prosecuted a case and is not really invested in this job.
Alternatively, we have a gritty guy that has been doing his job for like 20 years, prosecuting and committed to enhacing safety in our communities.

Am I missing something? Seems like a no-brainer?

Enlighten me…

Badge1104 May 12, 2018 at 1:41 PM

Please vote for Paul Graves!
The current fill-in DA was appointed by liberal-left mob action. Not good. A now uber-left billionaire Soros, the guy who paid protesters to riot and burn, has sunk big bucks into her campaign to ever push the leftwing philosophy of turning all criminals loose.
We are seeing the crime wave increase because of this. this is our last chance to stop it. Please vote Paul Graves!

Chicken Little May 12, 2018 at 6:52 PM

As soon as I saw her list of endorsements, I knew there was no way I would ever vote for her. How can she possibly NOT be a left winger with these people on her list?

Kamala Harris
Mark DeSaulnier
Eric Swalwell
George Miller

It’s like a who’s who of liberal nut jobs.

Original G May 12, 2018 at 9:23 AM

How does it feel to be a plaything of the super rich ? ? ?

“The California Justice & Public Safety Political Action Committee has spent $49,647 in support of Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton, who was appointed in September to replace Mark Peterson after Peterson resigned…” …

” Billionaire philanthropist George Soros has dropped at least $275,000 into district attorney races throughout Northern California, supporting candidates who advocate reduced incarceration and other criminal justice reforms.

Such issues have long been a passion for Soros, who in past years has funded state ballot measures to legalize marijuana and weaken the “three strikes” sentencing law. He’s also tipped district attorney elections in other parts of the country…” …

“This year, the liberal financier has funneled contributions into the California Justice & Public Safety Political Action Committee, which is paying for campaign mailers and advertisements in Alameda and Contra Costa counties, as well as Sacramento, ahead of the June 5 state primary.”

An why shouldn’t one of the richest people in the world manipulate humans ?
After all aren’t humans and their families the ultimate when it comes to things to toy with ? ? ?

Badge1104 May 12, 2018 at 1:47 PM

Well said! Thank you!
We need to stand up to this!

Anonymoous May 12, 2018 at 12:12 PM

Our current appointed DA has done something that no other previous DA has done . She has forbidden all previous Deputy DAs to talk to the press. What’s she afraid of?

Jojo Potato May 12, 2018 at 1:07 PM

What about the School Superintendent? I know Leone is a greedy sleazebag but wondering about the others. Ideas?

Publius May 12, 2018 at 2:07 PM

Hansen is the only viable choice for Superintendent. You only have to know what she did to clean up MDUSD to know she gets things done. A lot of the County Office people are scared to death of her because she doesn’t suffer the corrupt, fools or phonies, many of which are employed at the County.

Mackey has been “created”, never taught outside the County, has no K-12 experience, no real ideas except talking points she has been force fed, . The truth is Mackey doesn’t have a record to run on and if she applied for a job at any one of the 18 districts in the county probably would not be hired. Little statistic here on Mackey. Since 2013 she has received “promotions”, aka new job titles, but no new duties, and an increase of $50,000 in salary and benefits

Leone is a charter puppet and we in Concord know he is a scumbag and it’s a travesty that he is even running.

S May 12, 2018 at 3:01 PM

Please refresh our memory and be specific as to what Hansen did to clean up Mt. D Schools…

Publius May 12, 2018 at 2:49 PM

More on the County Superintendent race.

The County Office staff has endorsed Hansen – You know the old idea that the people inside doing all the work also know what is really going on. Very Telling!

Publius May 12, 2018 at 3:53 PM

When she came to the board she took on the power structure on the board and at Dent Center. In two years she led the way to get a new superintendent, new business manager, new HR head, and new district counsel led the vote to give employees pay raises and restore health benefits to employees who had lost them years before, restored counselors, music, and athletic funding. Those teachers now have pay and raises that are in the top 3 districts in the County. She also advanced reopening Holbrook elementary a school that should never have been closed. Began the practice of city and district meetings to enhance communications among the cities and district. She was the force behind College Now a program that allows high school students to attend community college while still in high school and is working to start a similar program at Cal State East Bay. She also played a significant role in getting the IB program to YVHS. When she found out that Concord High School’s athletic fields were in need of replacement she advocated for Measure C funds to give the school a new football field, track, baseball diamond, and softball field.

S May 13, 2018 at 8:31 AM

Very Nice. Thank you.

Someone posted this the other day for which I am grateful. The local paper does not adequately cover local politics.
Local DA candidates debate

Moomoo May 13, 2018 at 12:48 PM

Cheeky Hansen is a self-serving pos. She’ll fit right in.

Lela May 13, 2018 at 12:53 PM

Thanks Contra Costa County for at least tripling the cost of the Voter Information Guide by printing it in three different languages, on high quality paper, with a special colored paper used for the Sample Ballot. Guess the County has more funds to squander than the State of California who printed theirs on cheap newsprint in only one language … the one that’s native, English. Unbelievable that the County is so profligate with our hard-earned taxpayer dollars. Maybe their budget needs a review … it looks like they have money to burn.

Kenji May 14, 2018 at 1:23 PM

Regarding: “the one that’s native, English.” The names “Todos Santos”, “Martinez”, and “Pacheco” don’t look like English to me – and I don’t think they are recent immigrants.

Covfee May 14, 2018 at 1:52 PM

Nativist revisionism likes to ignore the fact that unless you are an indigenous person, you are an immigrant. English is not a native tongue in North America (fun fact: English comes from the country of England), perhaps they meant official language instead… of course the United States doesn’t have one of those.

Silva May 14, 2018 at 7:30 PM

Oh, My!

Silva May 14, 2018 at 7:34 PM

Ygnacio Valley, Mt. Diablo, Contra Costa, Alameda, San Francisco, Colorado, Texas, El Camino Real, El Cerrito, El Sobrante…

Lela May 14, 2018 at 11:55 PM

English is what this native has spoken for 75 years. Immigrants used to bother to learn the language. But, my point is how can Contra Costa County justify such an expense? It tripled the pages in the ballot needlessly, and therefore the expense. If you’re not going to bother to learn the language, get your own translation. Why am I having to pay for someone to do it for you?

The State of California printed their Voter Guide on the cheap. Does Contra Costa have money to burn? If so, I’d like some of my property tax dollars back because I bothered to learn English. In fact, I wasn’t given a choice. I don’t think I should have to pay for the lazy bums who can’t be bothered.

Lela May 14, 2018 at 11:58 PM

The State of California Voter Guide is in English only.

Lela May 15, 2018 at 12:00 AM

I’m part Native American. I speak English.

Lela May 15, 2018 at 12:05 AM

Either some of you don’t pay Property Taxes, or you don’t manage the household finances. If you did you would find this as appalling as I do.

Covfee May 15, 2018 at 6:08 AM

Lela – Actually, the California Voter Information Guide is available in ten written languages, plus American Sign Language. As a non-prop 13 taxpayer and someone who manages household finances, I am glad that we are taking the effort to include all eligible voters in our democracy.

Lela May 15, 2018 at 9:41 AM

Well, bully for you! You liberals are such hypocrits. You are all so worried about global warming with your solar panels, recycling obsessions, and the end of the planet yet you support a Voter’s Guide three times the size that is needed on 20 pound paper with a colored paper Sample Ballot insert. It is 128 pages when 43 would do. How many trees did that take? And, I see nowhere on this tomb in three languages that the paper is recycled. Unbelievable. Seriously, someone needs to audit Canciamilla’s budget. Something’s not right there. The State of California Voter’s Guide is printed in English on cheap newsprint. Is that not good enough for Contra Costa County? You don’t get what you don’t need. If you want to request it in another language, fine, but why send it at expense to people who don’t need it? I demand an audit of the County Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voter’s budget. Fun fact, “waste not want not.”

Covfee May 15, 2018 at 10:27 AM

Lela – As it seems that you are unaware, the reason that the Contra Costa ballot and Voter Information Guide is printed in three languages is to remain in compliance with the Federal Voting Rights Act.

If you want to spent more tax money to show that the County is doing what they are required to, that’s fine. I think that it would probably be cheaper to simply communicate to our Election officials that we would prefer them to use recycled paper in the future. (925) 335-7800,

Lela May 15, 2018 at 8:43 PM

On 20 lb paper? Seriously? The State of California Voter Guide isn’t in compliance, then.

CDE Watcher May 13, 2018 at 1:16 PM

Cheryl Hansen singlehandedly pushed Walnut Creek residents over the line, to form that CAPS group that desperately wanted out of MDUSD. All bitterness starts with CVCHS. MDUSD is better without her so the district can continue to bleed dry the wealthier corner of the district and implode long after she is gone. God help Mount Diablo.

Well Folk May 18, 2018 at 8:15 AM

And you saw where CAPS got. The Acalanes dist made is clear they did not now and will never want them.

Always Right May 14, 2018 at 5:55 AM

No one who gets the endorsement of the state teachers union will be working for the kids.

Hansen is owned by the most powerful government union in the state. The union that cares more about protecting bad teachers and putting money in members pockets than it cares about our kids. She is the status quo candidate.

Ron Leone is the only candidate who is not hamstrung by union or far-left politics. He is not a conservative, but he is closer to the center than the other two.

Fyi May 14, 2018 at 6:49 PM

He is owned by seeno.

Always Right May 15, 2018 at 7:19 AM

@fyI – whether or not he is “owned by Seeno” has no bearing on this job.

The fact that Cheryl Hansen is owned by the monopoly teachers union should be the red flag here.

Well Folk May 16, 2018 at 8:05 AM

Always Right – once again you haven’t paid attention. Ron Leone is a retired teacher, was a member of the CTA and enjoys a pension they negotiated for him. So he is part of the union……FOR LIFE.
Also he had life time health care at a cost from the union but doesn’t take it as his health care courtesy of the City of Concord is FREE!!!!!! Also see Hopes post about the MDHCD about his “in lieu” stipend for health care.
This elected position has a nice pension packaged attached to it as well. Always Wrong………….follow the holla holla dolla dolla as that is all Ron Leone is interested in.

AlwaysBePositive May 16, 2018 at 12:39 PM

ar…I can tell you are not a teacher, nor have you ever been one. The CTA has very little impact on teachers daily lives. Your description of their goal is not only incorrect…it is ludicrous. Provide some facts please.

Leone is in the pocket of the charter school movement. As currently structured, that movement is a direct attack on the public education system in America.

Our perennial candidate , Mr Kumar , just sent me a nice mailer with two endorsements . I did a little research and found one endorser lives out of the district and one lives… in Arizona.

I live in the District . If I were running for anything I could probably find a couple of neighbors to endorse me. Or maybe not.

I’m waiting for Kumar to call this “fake news” like someone else we know.

Jack May 15, 2018 at 7:13 AM

Did anyone else read kumar’s candidate statement? I always speculated he was an illiterate fool, but he’s proved it.

Always Right May 15, 2018 at 7:26 AM

Kumar is a perpetual candidate. When he loses this election he will no doubt run for some other office in November.

I think he thinks elections are like the lottery: the more times you run, the better your chances of winning.

Silva May 15, 2018 at 9:06 AM

Always Right, What do the lottery people say.. “If you don’t play, you can’t win!”. One day Kumar’s lucky number is going to come up. It wouldn’t be the first time someone unqualified had their name floating out there long and often enough.

Well Folk May 16, 2018 at 8:09 AM

Jack – what is more pathetic than Kumar is the fact that the citizens of the district could not come up with someone better that Kumar to run against Mitchoff. She was a subpar “manager” at the county (actually she was mid-management along with approximately 900 other employees who are in mid-management) and carried that subpar skill with her to the “Ivory Tower of Pine St”

TIFOKCIS May 16, 2018 at 8:44 AM

Not often we agree but you nailed this one.

Silva May 16, 2018 at 9:00 AM

Pathetic and frightening.

Anonymoous May 15, 2018 at 8:31 AM

A little more research on Harmesh Kumar. He originally decided he could best serve the people of California by being… Governor.

Seems like that didn’t work out too well so he downgraded to deciding he would be a Supervisor.

When he goes down to defeat he will no doubt run for something else. Possibly dogcatcher.

I think he just derives pleasure from seeing his name on campaign signs , which he has plastered all over the place. Tiresome .

Charlie May 15, 2018 at 10:11 AM

Kumar is an embarrassment to himself. He obviously has an over-sized ego and just has to come before the Council over any matter just to keep his face and name known. He needs to go away.

WARNING: City Changes CNWS Specific Plan after Neighborhood Meetings

At tonight’s CAC meeting, Lennar and Concord are presenting changes to the CNWS specific plan that differ from what was just presented at the recent neighborhood meetings. Very deceptive. They want to reduce the open space areas near the Bart station and add more density. They want all of the affordable housing to be at the Bart
station rather than spread throughout the project. Moving the density has carved out the best spots for single family housing only, which is the only type of housing Lennar builds. What a surprise.

In addition, there will be discussion of how to pay for infrastructure and community facilities on the CNWS. The majority of the report focuses on how new residents will pay but beware – the last items that are barely mentioned are ways that existing residents will have to pay through property taxes. Existing residents should not be paying for infrastructure or community benefits. If the only money Lennar has to work with is public money, then a different master developer with access to private money must be selected.

It’s no longer a plan that benefits Concord; it’s now a plan that benefits the developer.

Following is a link to the staff report for tonight’s presentation. Meeting is at 6pm in council’s chambers.

Silva May 15, 2018 at 10:24 PM

This is very bad. But it’s not a surprise. This whole thing has been closed door, back door, make promise break promise, hinky. That is a big change.

KAD May 15, 2018 at 11:15 PM

Thank you for being there and speaking out. The plans presented tonight were in process while they were showing other plans at the neighborhood meetings. You are right, it was very deceptive.

Hope Johnson May 16, 2018 at 12:35 AM

Quick clarification to my post above. I intended to mean Lennar does build “multi-family” housing but not affordable (low income) housing. They are designing the specific plan to make sure they are clear to build their market rate housing on the best sites, away from the high density, at the expense of quality of life for existing residents.

Hope Johnson May 16, 2018 at 6:56 AM

The original CNWS plan called for 25% of the housing to be what is being referred to as “multi-family” units, basically apartment buildings. The new plan now has 42% of the housing as apartments. This isn’t just affordable housing; the developer wants almost half of all the housing on the base to be apartments.

Always Right May 16, 2018 at 8:38 AM

That is really bad news for Concord. We have too many apartments already!

Apartments are cheaper to build than condos or townhouses. Probably explains the big push.

TIFOKCIS May 16, 2018 at 8:54 AM

Pack em in tight and they’ll require their own police force to deal with the results.

Silva May 18, 2018 at 9:56 AM

The old bait and switch.

Anonymoous May 16, 2018 at 8:33 AM

The far left and affiliates of Black Lives Mattter, like Shawn King are pouring money into electing the DA. On one hand we have Paul Graves, a career prosecutor, on the other we have a candidate that has never prosecuted a case was found to have committed plagiarism . The far left would love to take over the DAs office. Part of their agenda is not prosecuting minor crimes like DUIs.

PS I don’t know either of the candidates. I do know a lot of cops who are really scared of the current appointed DA

Fyi May 18, 2018 at 8:20 AM

Good, would love to see good old boys club.

Retired LEO May 16, 2018 at 10:39 AM

…voting for Paul Graves. Anyone who has not prosecuted a case does NOT deserve to be elected as the county DA.

And as far as plagiarizing? Her excuse is pretty flimsy/weak.

THE BLACK KNIGHT May 16, 2018 at 3:24 PM

Mayor Edi Birsan,

Is it true that the Garaventa’s or one of their companies (whether a real company or a shell company) has recently paid off your campaign debt?

Fyi May 18, 2018 at 12:59 AM

Easy enough to look up, go county website instead of stupid made up comments!

Hope Johnson May 18, 2018 at 9:01 AM

I also understand from various sources that the Garaventas are retiring Birsan’s campaign debt for him. Next campaign finance disclosures are not due until June 30 so likely not available until then on official databases.

Old Mr. Rodgers May 18, 2018 at 8:30 AM

It may take some time to show up on the county web site. I’ve found the information from the Black Knight to be solid.

Hope Johnson May 18, 2018 at 6:41 PM

Maybe the Garaventas will throw Birsan a fundraising party the same way they did for Obringer in Oct. 2015.

KAD May 18, 2018 at 4:36 PM

It is sad to hear this. Hope it is not true.

Fyi May 18, 2018 at 5:08 PM

It is not true, just asked edi. Maybe you should go directly to edi instead of posting crap! Personally I feel the Garaventas owe him $11,000, edi had to spend to print a flyer from their last phony hit piece on him!!!!!

Hope Johnson May 18, 2018 at 6:32 PM

Interesting! $11,000 I is such a specific number. Could it be Birsan fed FYI some nonsense in preparation to justify Garaventa money appearing on the next campaign finance statement?

My sources are pretty credible and several claim to have heard of this pay off directly from Birsan. Let’s wait for the finance statements.

Fyi May 18, 2018 at 5:15 PM

Just asked edi, not true. Next time ask him instead of posting crap. Personally I think they owe $11,000. He had to pay for printing new flyer after their hit piece on him!

Fyi May 18, 2018 at 5:38 PM

This why you get no respect, starting rumors. So low.
