A Walnut Creek man who died after crashing his car down an embankment and into a tree off of state Highway 4 in Martinez during a rainstorm Friday morning has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as 27-year-old Adam Zaves.

Zaves was at the wheel of a 1994 Honda Civic when he veered off westbound Highway 4 just before the Alhambra Avenue off-ramp around 8:30 a.m. Friday.

He was crushed when the driver’s side of the vehicle struck the tree, and California Highway Patrol officers found him unresponsive and trapped inside.

Zaves was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.

He played tuba and was affiliated with the Sacramento-based Element Brass Band.

The post said, “Rest in peace to our bandmate, Adam Zaves. You will be missed!”

What a terrible price to pay for likely going a little too fast in the rain. So sad.. My condolences to the family. Everyone…bad weather means you need to SLOW DOWN!
