Water Cooler – What Would You Ditch?

March 13, 2018 12:00 pm · 26 comments

The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday in the noon hour.

If you could only keep one of the following items, what would it be, and why?

  • cell phone
  • remote control for your television/cable box

Talk about it….

I can down load an app to use my phone as a remote. Sooooooooooo, cell phone. Just checked, you can also down load an app for Comcast remote.

Would have been cell phone anyways.

You said it perfectly!

Silva March 13, 2018 at 12:11 PM

That’s no contest. Cell phone.

AnonZ March 13, 2018 at 12:15 PM

My cell because it can be my TV Remote!

Dawg March 13, 2018 at 12:18 PM

The remote control. Why? Because my land line phone is good enough and cell phones are only a luxury.
With TV’s these days, it’s more difficult to change the channel without the remote and there are more channels to choose from. With the older TV’s I could easily get up and turn the dial on the television by hand and see what channel it’s on. This is why I would keep the remote and ditch the cell.
-and now you know.

Likewise, remote and have a landline. I could live without the remote if I could find a manual channel changer on the new TV. I don’t think they make them with manual controls anymore.

Lambie March 13, 2018 at 5:18 PM

@Dorothy, If you look on one of the edges, you might find controls. My controls are on the right edge.

Some TVs don’t have any accessible controls.

Cell phone…. It has an app which I can use to control the TV and Cable box.

I would ditch Cable Tv there is nothing really on I like to watch and am tired of all the violence and especially the dog abuse commercials they run. I have a portable dvd player and watch alot of my shows on it and no commercials and there uncut I am more into the early days of tv shows all the I love Lucy shows and Golden Girls as well as the Andy Griffith show love to watch them and can watch at my own time.

You would like COZI tv station. Also H&I tv. They are channels 180 and 186 on Comcast/Infinity. They play all the good stuff from the 50’s through the 90’s and earlier.

Lambie March 13, 2018 at 5:22 PM

@Sandy, thanks~ Little House on the Prarrie is on right now.

missimee March 13, 2018 at 12:50 PM

I would keep the cell phone. There’s an app that turns it into a TV/cable box remote.

Lambie March 13, 2018 at 12:50 PM

I’d give up the remote, since I can use my celly as a remote 😉

Remote? March 13, 2018 at 12:52 PM

Who needs a remote, you can tell Alexa to change channels.

polarbearmarket March 13, 2018 at 12:56 PM

Cell phone. It does much more than the TV remote, and I already have an app that changes the cable channel

Kirkwood March 13, 2018 at 1:03 PM

I would lose the remote even though it gets a lot more use than my cell phone. Although I seldom use the phone, I consider it necessary for use on trips, and in case I need road service, especially when I had the motorhome.

Roz March 13, 2018 at 1:08 PM

Don’t have a cell phone, so there’s the ditch.
Hubby would go crazy without the remote, or make me turn the channels for him,…the remote is my friend, LOL!

AlwaysBePositive March 13, 2018 at 1:10 PM

cell phone, I can control my tv with it as well.

Kentucky Derby March 13, 2018 at 2:01 PM

I’d keep my remote. I got rid of my cell phone a few years ago. No more unwanted calls and text messages. I live in peace.

For people who think they need a cell phone – please. People lived for years without one – just fine.

The Mamba March 13, 2018 at 2:32 PM

Cell phone, I can control my apple tv with it.

Clayton Black Glove March 13, 2018 at 3:24 PM

It depends on the situation. If we had a nuclear war, satellites would be of no use. A remote in a nuclear shelter would be handy 😁.watch dvd’s

Lambie March 13, 2018 at 5:26 PM

Good point, luckily we don’t have to make that choice for real 😉

Dawg March 13, 2018 at 11:36 PM

A nuclear war would knock out satellite and cable television too, and even if it didn’t, who would still be working at a TV station?

Nick March 13, 2018 at 5:41 PM

Keep cell phone because i already ditched cable and only watch a few things on computer now. And i saved about $150 a month and have a lot more time on may hands to do stuff around the house, instead of being a lazy @$$ in front of a TV.

Aspirin March 14, 2018 at 8:27 AM

That is like asking which would you keep, your car or the spare tire?

anon March 14, 2018 at 11:46 AM

cell phone – i don’t have cable.
