3.6 Magnitude Quake Strikes Contra Costa County This Afternoon

February 23, 2018 12:25 pm · 37 comments

A 3.6 magnitude earthquake struck the Danville/San Ramon area at 12:20 p.m. this afternoon. It was followed by a 2.8 aftershock about one minute later.

This is the second strong quake of the day. Earlier this morning, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake hit the same area.

Did you feel it?

Triple J February 23, 2018 at 12:26 PM

Sure did.

James Hodge February 23, 2018 at 12:29 PM

Definitely felt it here in San Ramon at Bishop Ranch.

Aspirin February 23, 2018 at 12:30 PM

Y-y-y-yes.

L February 23, 2018 at 12:30 PM

Felt it in Martinez as well as the one at 530 this morning

MAC February 23, 2018 at 12:30 PM

Felt this PM one and the aftershock. Did not feel the AM one.

Me February 23, 2018 at 12:32 PM

I was in the shower and it was a little disorienting. I’m in downtown Concord.

Denise February 23, 2018 at 12:32 PM

Crow Canyon Rd was jolted pretty good!

anon February 23, 2018 at 12:33 PM

Felt it in Dublin!

macawlady February 23, 2018 at 12:33 PM

Yes, but barely. I saw my refrigerator wiggle a tiny bit, and my birds peeped their “warning” sound. (Pets notice even the smallest earthquakes.)

WalterEgo February 23, 2018 at 12:36 PM

Close to 60 “events” in this swarm and I haven’t felt a thing out near the Pavilion. I think Mt Diablo is blocking some of the forces.

Hate BART February 23, 2018 at 12:36 PM

Felt the one at 12:20 in Clayton. Strong, very quick jolt. Felt like a truck hit the house.

Anne Marie February 23, 2018 at 12:39 PM

I felt this last two in Pleasant Hill. Our chocolate lab went nuts as well…

Lambie February 23, 2018 at 5:40 PM

Sounds yummy. What else do you cook up in your lab?

I'm The Urban Spaceman February 23, 2018 at 11:08 PM

Outstanding.

Cyco Miko February 23, 2018 at 12:40 PM

I haven’t felt any of it here near CVH.

Cellophane February 23, 2018 at 12:50 PM

There was a third, 2.0.

Suzanne February 23, 2018 at 12:54 PM

Not in Orinda

Willy February 23, 2018 at 12:56 PM

I read that small quakes do not nessesarily release built up energy towards reducing a larger release, so a larger quake could be in store.

Nutcreek Frontier February 23, 2018 at 1:00 PM

Felt it well in downtown PHill on the 4th floor, a long gentle roller.

Right Here Right Now February 23, 2018 at 1:07 PM

Felt it here in Concord. Made the walls creak.

Dawg February 23, 2018 at 1:15 PM

At 12:20 this afternoon I was driving in my car on Clayton Rd. so I didn’t feel a thing.

Shasta Daisy February 23, 2018 at 1:17 PM

I knew I felt something!!!

Peace.

K.F.-P.H. February 23, 2018 at 1:20 PM

I’m not sure I felt the first one, but I definitely felt the aftershock.

Captain Bebops February 23, 2018 at 1:32 PM

No, but I was out for a walk and wouldn’t have anyway. Takes a really big one to notice something when walking. Have felt what might have been little ones and no truck driving by (which can rattle a bit especially fire trucks).

Mary Fouts February 23, 2018 at 1:55 PM

I was working in my home office in sough PH and felt nothing. No reaction from the dogs. Haven’t felt any of the recent Danville-area quakes.

Roz February 23, 2018 at 2:06 PM

Didn’t feel the one-two around 12:20 pm, but I did feel the one at 5:30ish am.
Here in Concord near Willow Pass Road.

jp5air February 23, 2018 at 2:22 PM

I have not felt any of the recent Danville quakes here in Concord.

Kirkwood February 23, 2018 at 2:34 PM

Didn’t hear or feel anything here in Kirkwood. I was busy in the kitchen making a pot of soup.

Justdontcare February 23, 2018 at 2:45 PM

Hang on it’s coming…and it’s gonna big big…really big…

clayton road resident February 23, 2018 at 3:04 PM

I am here on clayton road and bissell drive and I haven’t felt any of the earthquakes.

Oops February 23, 2018 at 3:24 PM

Felt it big time in Oakland

Mimi (original) February 23, 2018 at 3:44 PM

Didn’t feel the AM one while in Concord, and didn’t feel the PM one while sitting at my desk in Martinez. Apparently I’m naturally shaky!

marinemom February 23, 2018 at 4:40 PM

I predict 2 more closer to Concord

MovingOutOfCa February 23, 2018 at 4:47 PM

Yes! I have felt a lot of these. This is quite a swarm.

Lambie February 23, 2018 at 5:43 PM

Didn’t feel them in P. Hill.

Be gentle February 24, 2018 at 9:38 AM

No I did not and I am 3 miles away from Danville. Why is the media making such a big deal about this? What do they expect. They love the drama.

Mr.Bill February 24, 2018 at 12:33 PM

I’m curious, how many out there in Concord have earthquake insurance?

Been here 24 years and I don’t
