Unemployment rates were below five percent in all nine San Francisco Bay Area counties last month, according to California’s Employment Development Department.

San Mateo County had the lowest rate at 2.1 percent, followed by Marin County at 2.3 percent and San Francisco at 2.4 percent.

Solano County had the highest rate at 4.1 percent.

In Santa Clara and Sonoma counties, unemployment was below three percent. Alameda, Contra Costa and Napa counties reported unemployment of 3, 3.1 and 3.6 percent, respectively.

Statewide, unemployment was 4.3 percent, compared with 4.1 percent nationwide.

I’m sure there is going to be some comment about how California is going to lose all business and jobs and that employment is thanks to the Republicans somehow. You know the typical Claycord right wing conspiracy.

We were all supposed to die if Trump was elected.

Pyrrhus January 22, 2018 at 11:53 AM

I don’t recall anyone saying we were supposed to die if Trump was elected. Could you please elaborate on that? Maybe Nuclear war? However, I believe that didn’t start to come to question until his Presidency when he would get into twitter wars with Rocket Boy.

Yes, thanks for leaving Obama and taking Hillary with you.

Thanks Trump, lower taxes and less regulations.

Great Gonzo January 22, 2018 at 12:21 PM

Do not celebrate too soon, the elitist dnc masters/overseers in Sacto are looking to raise State taxes to STEAL any benefits we peasants get from the FEDERAL tax cut. You have to understand, ALL lib/dem/socialists know and BELIEVE that ALL the money anyone out side of the State regime makes really belongs to them.

Original G January 22, 2018 at 10:47 AM

Why is it they never include the type of jobs being created?
How many were living wage manufacturing jobs?
How many workers in those counties still qualify for public assistance?
How many are working minimum wage jobs and how many are working multiple jobs?

Are the ways different between how state and BLS figure rates?
Does state have an equivalent U-6 figure to BLS U-6?

Lasabre January 22, 2018 at 11:37 AM

Are you implying that some entry level job creation is a bad thing? You prefer only high paying CEO type jobs for executives of big companies?… I can here the cries now, but unfortunately for the liberal narrative, jobs of all types help people of all types.
Losers get the crap jobs, non-losers get the good jobs. It’s called “duh economics” since even my 5 year old understands she isn’t going to get a job running a tech company. She grasps she’s gotta work her way up.
Duh

Great Gonzo January 22, 2018 at 3:54 PM

Good you are catching on, the bulk of the jobs(HAH!) “created” under obama were LESS than 40 hours a week jobs! Part time like a *&%#@$%^&&.

We need more time to tabulate it but with PRESIDENT TRUMP being a construction guy I suspect the jobs created in HIS administration will be real, grown up 40 hour a week jobs.

Original G January 22, 2018 at 9:52 PM

Lasabre … What good are vacuous numbers good for other than for politicians to pat each other on the back and as a news handout parroted by the media?

If you were to take an in depth look you’d probably find many of the jobs were in fact minimum wage jobs, which while teaching entry level employees a work ethic and some skills is in no way a replacement for living wage previously jobs lost.

Far better indication of employment will be rising wages paid by employers seeking hard to find qualified employees.

Numbers are about as useless as number of high school graduates and dropouts “reported” by the state.

DeSaulnier will no doubt take credit.

Great Gonzo January 22, 2018 at 12:22 PM

Sorry.

“DeSaulnier will no doubt STEAL credit.”

More accurate, no?

MAGA. California is being driven Republican by greedy Democrats. We have only President Trump to thank for the upturn in the economic outlook of the US. Happened the night he was elected and has continued full force since then.

Growing up MAGA stood for the Mexican American Golf Association. LOL!!

Captain Bebops January 22, 2018 at 11:42 AM

A recent study shows that 1 in 5 in California is at the poverty level. However the other three just didn’t want to admit it. 😉

Patty January 22, 2018 at 12:41 PM

@Great Gonzo
I know the libs are going to try to do this, but we just have to stand up and stop them. We all need to let our voices be heard. We need to call them and hound them and get them voted out. I work really hard at doing this. We need every like minded person to do their part. They can just block me, but if lots and lots of you joined in, they can’t or won’t block us all.

Pyrrhus January 22, 2018 at 2:06 PM

I think you are missing something, The majority of people in California are liberal leaning. No matter how great of a turnout of the Republicans in California, you are the minority. The only way the Republicans can win in blue areas is if there is a huge scandal with the person. I liken it to what happened in Alabama. People voted against a child molester not for a Democrat. By the next election that seat is going back to the Republicans.

JWB January 22, 2018 at 1:28 PM

Now that’s funny I guess you must have changed your views from 2013.

http://claycord.com/2013/11/24/unemployment-rates-down-in-the-bay-area/

“LOL! it all in the metrics. Let’s look at the real unemployment rate. I say it’s double.”

“These “rates” are really useless information. The numbers can be interpreted in so many ways that it is really subjective info with no value.”

“Liars and statistics…………….”

“Yes, of course I believe them, even though they lied just before the election..”

“These are nothing but PR. The truth is many many Americans are either under employed or have given up looking. Neither of these groups are tracked, and so the number look much better than they really are.”
