Tens of Thousands Expected to Attend Women’s Marches Across the Area

January 19, 2018 14:00 pm · 54 comments

(by Janis Mara) – Tens of thousands of people are expected to turn out Saturday in cities across the Bay Area for a series of Women’s Marches as part of a grassroots political movement to get more women into political office.

The Women’s Marches began in January 2017 in the wake of the election of President Donald Trump, drawing huge crowds at events across the globe. The largest gathering this year will likely be in San Francisco, where an estimated 100,000 people marched last year.

While electing female political leaders is a main focus of the events, female empowerment in general is the overriding theme. Many of the events will feature a so-called Call to Action Alley, in which demonstrators can speak with representatives of nonprofit community organizations.

San Francisco Supervisors Hillary Ronen and Sandra Lee Fewer are among the speakers on the program at the San Francisco event, which is expected to draw about 80,000 people.

Demonstrators will gather at 11:30 a.m. at Civic Center Plaza for the rally, followed by a march down Market Street to the Embarcadero at 2 p.m.

In Oakland, where an estimated 100,000 people marched last year, demonstrators will gather at the Lake Merritt Amphitheater on Lake Merritt Boulevard at 10 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., the group will march to Frank Ogawa Plaza
in downtown Oakland.

Last year, about 25,000 people showed up for the Women’s March in San Jose, according to organizers. This year’s march is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at San Jose City Hall.

The group will march about one mile down Santa Clara Street to Arena Green East near the SAP Center for a rally with speakers, music and food.

Additional Women’s March events planned in the Bay Area include Women’s March Contra Costa, a 10:30 a.m. rally at Walnut Creek’s Civic Park, 1375 Civic Drive.

The Santa Cruz Women’s March drew 18,000 participants last year, according to organizers. This year, the event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. at Pacific Avenue and Water Street, followed by a march to Louden Nelson
Community Center at 301 Center Street.

Not bad! They’re getting almost as many marchers as the Bay to Breakers race.

Here is a great video that every woman, and man, can learn from. It discusses equal rights, pay gap, and other human natures regarding our gender differences.

Where I work, woman make more money on average than men.

Marmalade January 20, 2018 at 1:26 AM

Well of course they do at a massage parlor.

The Mamba January 19, 2018 at 3:05 PM

Why isn’t this ever coordinated to be during the playoff games?

ConcordMike January 19, 2018 at 4:44 PM

Why indeed? Great idea.

KAD January 20, 2018 at 5:47 PM

You really believe women don’t watch playoff games? You are wrong.

NunYa January 19, 2018 at 3:16 PM

Isn’t Hillary in jail?

Silva January 20, 2018 at 5:58 PM

Apparently not. There must be some sort of hold up.

HappyWife January 19, 2018 at 3:22 PM

HILARIOUS The Mamba.. love it.

Hmm.. no mention of the March for Life in DC today? #MarchforLife #MarchforLife #LoveSavesLives

I think 60 million lives lost to abortion is the real travesty.

Greg94528 January 19, 2018 at 7:02 PM

Exactly! Agreed!
The feminists are trying to cover up and white wash the horror of abortion by calling it women’s health.

ClayDen January 19, 2018 at 8:10 PM

I agree. I attended the march several years ago in DC and it was a wonderful experience.

Great Gonzo January 19, 2018 at 3:23 PM

Let’s see 18k, wow I am so impressed.

Not.

Having attended protests in the Bay Area since the 1960’s all this has gotten to be a HUGE, MASSIVE yawn. Some “protest”, the slogans on the placards at new to the children while to me they have not changed, the protesters have not progressed beyond the crap they painted on cardboard since Reagan was elected GOVENOR!

Whoever runs these things, put a little imagination into these things will you, Reading the same fact-free, passion-based lies, profanities is now putting experienced adults to sleep. Did I say sleep? Into COMA’S of boredom! You need to pass it up the line to your boss/employer/owner soros(or who ever I can not even be bothered to find out anymore, they are all interchangeable), get some new material!

Walk For Life January 19, 2018 at 3:31 PM

Not to be overlooked, there is ANOTHER walk celebrating women coming up with “tens of thousands expected” to attend…

Next weekend, on Saturday, January 27th is the 14th Annual Walk for Life in San Francisco.

Having attended this event each of the previous thirteen years, I can attest this “demonstration” has always been peaceful and uplifting in their support of women. (Except, of course, for the foul-mouthed, screaming and spitting protesters that show up on the sidewalks that yell obscenities to the people walking down the middle of the street.)

I’d invite you see for yourselves what this movement is all about. It celebrates the beauty and sanctity of life for all!

Barbie Girl January 19, 2018 at 6:04 PM

Thank you.

Great Gonzo January 19, 2018 at 7:26 PM

Sounds more like it.

And more positive, uplifting.

WC January 19, 2018 at 3:34 PM

I guess we will avoid DT Walnut Creek tomorrow. I wonder how much the merchants lose in business?

Aw, How Cute January 19, 2018 at 3:39 PM

Another inauguration that Hillary never got.

HolyMolyDoughnutShop January 19, 2018 at 4:25 PM

YOU JUST MADE MY WEEKEND!

SF oh January 19, 2018 at 4:49 PM

This is the same crap Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan, et al, did in the 70’s. Been there – done that – seen it. – sick of it. Are they planning to do something totally shocking like ……. burn their bras???? That has also been done before and accomplished nothing….. Sorry girls, you aren’t doing anything new or innovative. Ever consider getting involved in education, local government or mentoring programs? Ya, I know that’s boring – and blocking streets and screaming like idiots is more fun, but putting in the work would probably yield better results.

NunYa January 19, 2018 at 5:20 PM

Careful, you hurt the snowflake’s feelings.

Nutcreek Frontier January 19, 2018 at 4:56 PM

I am assuming conservative women aren’t welcome…we are all sisters unless you question liberal politics.

Serious? January 20, 2018 at 11:55 AM

But of course. You are only welcome if you agree to parrot their ideologies.

Random Task January 19, 2018 at 5:17 PM

“grassroots political movement to get more women into political office”….
well women just ask kamala harris how to do it I am sure her story will entice and thrill women or Hillary riding the coat tails of her husband

my question is when are they going to want their own letter designation
the inequality issue and marching so they can get more is fine

The thing is this is America ..if you want more go get more ask Hillary shes not broke and making more than her husband ….these women claiming they are under paid need to work harder or denounce America and get free loder cash

TIFOKCIS January 19, 2018 at 5:42 PM

Are these women going to also protest the hiring of transgenders and certain races before and ahead of straight and white women?

honeybun January 19, 2018 at 6:19 PM

Another day to celebrate that Crooked Hillary isn’t president of our great country.

Hopefully next year she and her criminal cohorts will all be in jail.

Then I will go march!

In Celebration!

Jerk January 19, 2018 at 6:29 PM

Sad, sad, sad.
Women have the ability to heal the World ~ But Not by trying to Compete with Men and acting masculine. These nags have lost their way.

Drive by any road work project……who is in the trench???
Sure, there is usually a Female there…FLAGGING TRAFFIC!!!
If you want equal pay – You’ll have to do an Equivalent job.

Silva January 20, 2018 at 9:54 AM

I did. Several. Better and faster than my male colleagues. I still got the worst shifts, and jobs no one else wanted though.

Marmalade January 19, 2018 at 7:01 PM

My wife can’t attend, she’s got everyone’s laundry to do and the kitchen is a mess and needs attention.

Really ??? January 19, 2018 at 9:06 PM

Lol! 😂

Greg94528 January 19, 2018 at 7:06 PM

I bet these are going to again turn into a nothing but I hate Trump rallies!
The news reports that women are now doing better than they have in 17 years thanks to Trump. But that won’t phase the crazed liberals who are pushing the constant theme of being victims

Dr. Jellyfinger January 19, 2018 at 7:58 PM

Isn’t there a big sale at both Macy’s AND Nordstrom’s tomorrow?

Mark January 19, 2018 at 8:16 PM

Let me balance out this blatant piece of propaganda for you:
“The Women’s Marches began in January 2017 in the wake of the election of the Great President Donald Trump…”. Better.

Sam January 19, 2018 at 8:16 PM

Get over it ladies, your female pos didn’t get elected! It’s been a year already, let it go. We had to put up with obama now you’re going to have to put up with Trump.

Pac islander January 19, 2018 at 9:10 PM

Nothing better than organized sexual discrimination…

Darwin January 19, 2018 at 11:07 PM

Women have been trying to emasculate men in this country for decades. Equal pay, see Been Shapiro video on subject. Just try living in a Latin country, Black Country or middle eastern country. Oh yeah, I said it!!!
As for sexual harassment, sexual assault is illegal (rape, groping, etc…) needs to be prosecuted, period. However men are attracted to women, Is flirting now illegal?? Women and men have it very well in this country, thank you white European male!!!!

Silva January 20, 2018 at 10:14 AM

Flirting isn’t illegal, women also flirt. Nothing will ever change that. But if you’re going to do it relentlessly in the workplace when it’s not reciprocated and after you’ve been asked to stop, it can make it very uncomfortable for the recipient of the unwanted attention, and difficult to face the workday. Often the unrelenting flirter becomes enraged at the unwilling recipient, and what happens next is the environment becomes very hostile.

Darwin January 20, 2018 at 11:19 AM

@ Silva
I agree, There is defiantly a difference between flirting and harassment. Things can escalate for the worse. My job has mandatory sexual harassment classes, defining it and what it could be, almost anything etc..They also have structured safeguards for reporting to Human Resources.

Kentucky Derby January 20, 2018 at 2:16 PM

Sexual harassment has nothing to do with attraction, and everything to do with power and control. There’s a big difference. Men don’t harass women they’re attracted to. If a man is attracted to a woman, he’ll treat her better – not worse.

Men harass women to assert their dominance, and some women sexually harass men too.

Silva January 20, 2018 at 4:23 PM

Darwin, I guess some things have changed since I ran the gauntlet every day, or as some would say, “went to work”. Though even still, a friend of mine has been through this at her last position. HR did nothing to help her, and instead her position was made untenable till she found another job. Still happens.

Darwin January 20, 2018 at 6:08 PM

@ Silva
Bummer about your friend.

Teamster January 20, 2018 at 7:43 AM

I think all these intelligent women need to do more research on who is funding these marches. Billionaire George Soros donates to 50 plus organizations that fund this event. Anything that man is linked to is dirty….he is banned in several countries for attempts to manipulate…the guy wants to takeover the world…global pig. Don’t follow the masses…..sometimes the m is silent!

KAD January 20, 2018 at 5:44 PM

Funding for what? You think these people are paid to show up? These people are just like you and me. I would have been there today if I were well enough to go. You don’t know what you are talking about.

DTeamster January 21, 2018 at 11:06 AM

Funding is an important aspect of these marches. Some attend, others do bus in. Who pays? Who pays for the permits? The law enforcement presence? The speakers. There are several costs associated. So while some believe the marches are about a particular issue, the promoters have a different agenda… Don’t follow the masses…. Sometimes the m is silent.

Dr. Jellyfinger January 20, 2018 at 9:29 AM

I see the march has begun….. but I have to wonder what all the attractive women are doing today?

Silva January 20, 2018 at 3:05 PM

Sashaying around in lingerie and stilettos in your head.

Dr. Jellyfinger January 20, 2018 at 9:14 PM

Oh heck Silva….. that’s everyday!

Silva January 20, 2018 at 10:45 PM

I’m sure of it.

KGB January 20, 2018 at 12:39 PM

When is the mens march?

Marmalade January 20, 2018 at 12:47 PM

We got better things to do…altho I see men mixed in with the women today..pansies…

Dr. Jellyfinger January 20, 2018 at 11:45 PM

The men’s march will occur between 3 – 5 am from the bed to the bathroom & back again.
Take comfort in knowing while you are grumbling and muttering obscenities because you had to get up & pee, that millions of men are also doing the same and at the very same time as you. We are as brothers united in our nightly constitutional and all should be glad we woke up to go pee and didn’t just do it whilst sleeping. Plus more of us will be doing more marching than the women did today and our march will be for a good reason & actually accomplish something.

PandoraHD January 21, 2018 at 7:58 PM

I am a woman and was invited to attend the Women’s March Bay Area by my Union. There are many women that refuse to affiliate themselves with this proliferation of hate and divide and I am one of them. These females do not march for ” women’s rights, human rights, social and environmental justice”. These rights already exist.

The women’s marches across this nation are psychological reactions to change. They hide behind the guise of “Empowerment” to proliferate hate and divide galvanized by their disdain for President Trump and his administration’s policies. Leadership is about change. There are two ways to accept it. See the positive or fight against it, be miserable, and struggle.

KG January 22, 2018 at 12:41 PM

What a depressing collection of negative comments. No wonder the women marched.

Gitittogether January 22, 2018 at 2:05 PM

For every “harasser”, there are 10 gossipers and that gossip can be equally vicious and devastating. Rather than claiming special victim status and perpetuating a segregated tit-for-tat society, better to realize that anyone can be a victim, anyone can be an abuser and anyone can be a friend.
