House panel subpoenas Bannon in Russia probe showdown

The congressional subpoena came the same day The New York Times reported that Bannon — a former far-right media executive and recently scorned political adversary of the president’s — has been subpoenaed by special counsel Robert Mueller to testify before a federal grand jury.

Elwood January 19, 2018 at 7:45 PM

Old news

Local January 19, 2018 at 10:51 PM

Here you go, Elwood. This one’s newer:

FBI agents visited Bannon’s house

FBI agents made a trip to Bannon’s home last week, in what became a heated exchange with the agents. It’s unclear if Bannon had an attorney on retainer at that point. The agents delivered a subpoena for Bannon.

Elwood January 20, 2018 at 1:31 PM

The lightning-paced investigation of everyone for everything rages on!
Did you get your subpoena yet?
Remember, a minimally competent prosecutor can induce a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich.

FBI investigating whether Russian money went to NRA to help Trump

FBI counterintelligence investigators have focused on the activities of Alexander Torshin, the deputy governor of Russia’s central bank who is known for his close relationships with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and the NRA, the sources said.

It is illegal to use foreign money to influence federal elections.

Elwood January 19, 2018 at 7:49 PM

everyone knows that Putin secretly control the NRA

Dr. Jellyfinger January 19, 2018 at 8:03 PM

I got suspicious that Ruskies might be involved in the NRA when I saw that article in American Rifleman “Best Rifle for Moose and Squirrel”.

Great Gonzo January 20, 2018 at 5:46 PM

NRA and the Russians, now THAT IS funny!

To what ever person made that claim, you sound very well versed in ALL the details of that Russia, NRA relationship. So tell us, exactly, EXACTLY, to the PENNY, how much hard cash money did Russia pay for that influence?

WHEN, not IF, you reply with the usual, mandatory lies and evasions the rest of us will accept it as you admitting you LIED!

LocaI January 20, 2018 at 11:31 PM

Here you go, gonzo:

The NRA Is Part of the Trump–Russia Scandal Now

There is a genuine ideological connection between the right-wing ideology of the NRA and of many Russian nationalists, a strand of violence-obsessed authoritarian pan-European nationalism. Of course, if the support given Trump by Russians was not merely moral but also financial, it would violate the law.

Fred P. January 23, 2018 at 7:14 AM

Local does nothing more than copy/paste from left-wing rags that support his beliefs…..then claims that as “fact.”

Nothing to see between his ears.

Greg94528 January 19, 2018 at 7:28 PM

Fasten your seatbelts the Trump train is coming through! The booming economy that is supposed to get much better over the year has produced the lowest unemployment rate ever among African-Americans the lowest unemployment rate for women in 17 years and new respect on the world stage. Why even the crime rate is going down (except for liberal controlled California).. of course the Democrats won’t acknowledge any of this and are acting apoplectic because they realize that there reign is over and that people have begun to see through their failed programs! And even some of their ugly backroom dealings and collusion well the s*** is hitting the fan.
Go Trump go Trump go Trump Yoo-hoo

Yogurt January 20, 2018 at 9:34 AM

You know that the trump economy was built on the back of the Obama administration right?

The economy doesn’t just become robust overnight

Badge1104 January 20, 2018 at 10:03 AM

I’m sorry, its you guys that have been drinking Kool-Aid. it’s incredible so many Obama deciples are still thinking he is responsible for all the good things happening now. I got no raises and only higher health insurance costs from my employer when Obama was President . Now, specifically because of Trump, my employer has given us raises and a nice bonus at the end of the year. and now HR told us that our paychecks will be about $100 even more additionally because of less taxes.! We love Trump!
Were spending this new money and helping others! this is why the economy is going to Boom

Yogurt January 20, 2018 at 11:46 AM

Badge, the raises you are seeing were built on an economy that Obama’s built after the republicans almost destroyed our economy under bush.

Obama inherited the worst economy since the Great Depression and rebuilt it over 8 years. Trump inherited a great economy and has helped make it better, while I’ll gove him credit for assisting, he does not deserve all the credit.

This is not politics, it’s truth

mtzman January 21, 2018 at 7:35 AM

Yes, the economy is in good shape, but not because of Trump. The rate of job creation has actually declined under Trump from the Obama years, unemployment has been steadily declining for years, as well. The Dow Jones will need to get to 50,000 before Trump can even match Obama’s time, let alone exceed it. Even the crime rate has been steadily decreasing since the early 1990s.

Elwood January 19, 2018 at 7:52 PM

investigation of everyone for everything proceeds at lightning pace!
did you get your subpoena yet?

Badge1104 January 19, 2018 at 7:59 PM

CNBC the business Channel, reported that the economy will reach full steam in about 6 more months because of all the Trump effects. I am so glad I voted for Trump. yes you may be somewhat of a bombastic New York businessman but that’s what it takes to get things done. and while we’re not used to his kind of candor and honesty, I will take it rather than the two-face cheating and lying that comes out of most politicians.
everything the Democrats are throwing at Trump trying to take him down should it be the Russians or his supposedly failing health………all are not holding up and are proving to be wrong. how are the Democrats going to explain to their poorer and minority supporters who will be doing better, even illegal aliens doing better in this economy, that they have a better way. frankly I think a liberalism will be on its way out as people see the benefits that Trump will bring

Amy January 20, 2018 at 9:33 PM

I agree. Well said.

Local January 19, 2018 at 8:10 PM

This would be the first real government shutdown under one-party government, ever

What we’re seeing, more than anything, is a government that is unified in name only. Lindsey Graham, Jeff Flake, Tom Cotton, Stephen Miller, and Donald Trump are all Republicans. But they are not on the same side, and Trump appears generally baffled and unsure which side he’s on, if any.

A party needs to be in an impressive amount of disarray to control both houses of Congress and the presidency and still fail to fund the government. That’s the situation the Republican Party finds itself in today.

Elwood January 19, 2018 at 9:15 PM

did anyone ever tell you that it takes 60 votes in the Senate to do anything?

Potato Head January 19, 2018 at 8:18 PM

Don’t care about no stinkin’ tourists traps. Don’t care about no stinkin’ CDC. Don’t care about no passport office. Don’t want no stinkin’ DACA illegals or their parents. Hate Trump, Congress, the Russians, and most everybody else. Anarchy now!

#hashtags don’t mean crap. Twitter itself is a joke.

Local January 19, 2018 at 10:45 PM

The government could shut down because Donald Trump doesn’t know what he’s doing

By veering from handshake deals with “Chuck and Nancy” to profane rants about “sh*thole” countries, Trump has confused everyone and brought the political system to the breaking point.

Susan I January 19, 2018 at 11:09 PM

I agree Marmalade, too bad The Donald doesn’t agree.

Marmalade January 19, 2018 at 9:29 PM

My life will go on unaffected at all by a government shutdown.
Told my daughter to look at the Senate floor at all the dinosaurs standing around. How pathetic these people working into their 70s, 80s even 90s. America is messed up with so many dinosaurs running the government or should I say NOT running it.

I hope the govt stays shutdown all year initiating a domino effect to bring the whole corrupt thing down.

Marmalade January 19, 2018 at 10:04 PM

So are Democrats..the Democrats are more worried about illigals and their rights and letting them all come here than anything else. That’s what is sad.

‘I’ll give her a week’ to lose the baby weight, Trump said publicly of Melania, months before alleged tryst with porn star

Trump also said in the 2005 interview that he had seen “beautiful women that for the rest of their lives have become [a] horror” after giving birth. “You know, they gain like 250 pounds,” he told Stern. “It’s like a disaster.”

At the time of the interview, Melania Trump was five months pregnant with her first child, Trump’s fifth. Barron Trump was born March 20, 2006.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, told In Touch magazine that she had sex with Trump in July 2006 at a golf tournament in Nevada. The In Touch interview was conducted in 2011 but published for the first time this week.

Venice January 20, 2018 at 8:58 AM

Democrats have clearly shown they care more about the potential future votes from ILLEGAL ALIENS than national security.
Threats from N Korea, Iran, China, Russia, and protecting our borders mean NOTHING to democrats as they stupidly and arrogantly cut off funds to our military at a time when we desperately need security.
For democrats it’s all about power, control, and everything anti Trump. Never before has a party demonstrated their collective hate while completely ignoring the needs of the nation.
The Greater Good Be Damned

Yogurt January 20, 2018 at 9:39 AM

This is just straight up lies.

Don’t forget that there was a bipartisan deal approved last week and he only had to sign the bill to avoid this. He didn’t and here we are

Referring to dreamers as “illegals “ only shows how little you understand of the actual situation and that you buy into the propaganda too much.

This shutdown is only because of Donald and Steven Miller. Don’t forget, he also didn’t get all the republicans to vote to avoid this too.

Actually you can blame The overall incompetence of Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnel as well. The leadership is not leading for the country, they are only trying to play to a base that doesn’t care about them.

Yogurt January 20, 2018 at 11:48 AM

Solid contribution to the conversation.

Instead of trying to make a point, you call names. The shutdown is because of trump and Miller only. The deal was done with full bipartisanship and he didn’t sign it. Instead he asked for more immigrants from Norway and called a whole continent a name.

All of this happened, it’s not propaganda or spin.

Venice January 20, 2018 at 12:16 PM

Your one-sided opinion is noted!

Yogurt January 20, 2018 at 12:36 PM

Please tell me from your opinion what happened.

Elwood January 20, 2018 at 1:37 PM

“Don’t forget that there was a bipartisan deal approved last week and he only had to sign the bill to avoid this.”

How is it that you are the only one who knows this? Why has it not been reported by anyone other than you?

Your source? Got links?

Venice January 20, 2018 at 5:34 PM

Yogurt –
Senate minority leader Schumer decided it’s time for a shutdown. He is, no doubt, reading the latest polls and fears that the generic congressional results may be trending toward the Republicans. DUH!

I guess you haven’t noticed;
The tax reform and reduction act pushed through at the end of 2017 without any Democratic votes is starting to bear fruit for Republicans.

I guess you haven’t noticed;
The stock market is hitting records regularly.

I guess you haven’t noticed;
The economic news is good regarding employment and salaries.

The last straw in this regard for that obstructionist Schumer and his leadership was the good news from Apple (the hallmark of a liberal corporation). Now Schumer decided to change the narrative.

It is not a coincidence that this shutdown occurred on the anniversary of Trump’s administration. As always, Democrats need a bogeyman, and Trump fits the bill. He thwarted their attempts to move the country left politically. He reversed almost all the Obama executive orders.

The most critical one is DACA. Trump tried to end it and gave Congress six months to repair it LEGALLY. THEY FAILED!
A federal judge appointed by Clinton has blocked Trumps order. This removed the urgency and forced the two parties to reach a compromise likely more favorable to Republicans. Either way, the issue had until March, while the government shutdown takes effect today.

Shumer and the democrats are holding the country hostage because they care more about illegal aliens and the potential future votes. They don’t give a damn about what is best for Americans.

Americans have spoken; they want immigration control and the wall. That’s one of the reasons Trump was elected.

Yogurt January 20, 2018 at 7:15 PM

Yes the tax reform got passed. It’s too early to judge if it’s good or bad

As a business owner, I’m not against it but I’m not willing to pay less taxes at the expense of poor people. Also all the ridiculous laws snuck in to make it pass is just shameful

But again, Lindsey graham and the Democrats had a passable bill that Steven Miller and trump shot down.

I posted a link before but like trump he shut it down from being posted

But just google bipartisan DACA deal and it will show you a million links

Pyrrhus January 20, 2018 at 9:39 AM

Marmalade, the problem is Trump. There was a bipartisan agreement and Trump torpedoed it. Trump then had an agreement with Schumer where Trump was actually going to get funding for his stupid wall. Then, being typical Trump, he only makes his decision on the last person that talked to him which was some idiot staff.

This is all on the Republicans and their idiot President.

Badge1104 January 20, 2018 at 9:53 AM

I voted for Trump because I felt the Democrats cared more about illegal aliens and transgender bathroom rights than they did about me a hard-working American.
But thanks to Trump’s economic policies even Phil illegal aliens are going to start doing better economically not to mention all the American poor that the Democrats think that they are champions for. they have only failed them

Yogurt January 20, 2018 at 12:08 PM

It’s intersting to see why someone voted for trump. What no one talks about is that more trump voters, like yourself, only care about one or two issues.

For you it’s jobs and immigration. For Most of his voters it’s that way too.

They tend to overlook his lack of morals, in business and life or his ability to lead or fully understand how government works.

Outside of his disdain for our environment or the long term economical health of our country, one of the most frightening things he has done, is gut the state department. It’s not government and verdin tonhave a robust state department, it’s a requirement for us to be a global leader

Venice January 20, 2018 at 2:30 PM

Yogurt’s problem, like so many other short-sighted leftists, is that she hates trump. She lacks the intellect to see the benefits of having a non-career-politician as president. He may not be someone she would choose as a friend or associate, therefore, like other short-sighted leftists, she rages against him.
They would prefer a smooth talking liar who makes them feel good.

Silva January 21, 2018 at 8:42 AM

But for Bush 2.0 there would not have been a President Obama.

Randy January 20, 2018 at 8:02 PM

So…some non partisan facts:

The President is a Republican.

The House in controlled by Republicans.

The Senate is controlled by Republicans.

The party in control determines what bills come to the floor for a vote.

The Children’s Health Insurance Program expired in September 2017.

The Republican House and Senate never brought a bill to the floor to vote on extending it. Not once.

President Trump, via executive order, revoked DACA protections several months ago. He gave Congress a deadline to fix the problem that he created completely on his own.

Congress failed to come up with a solution to the President’s unprovoked actions.

Congress, which is run by Republicans, failed to address DACA, failed to address CHIP, and failed to address the budget, leaving essential government personnel, including the military, forced to function under months of a CR – continuing resolutions.

The President, who is a Republican, failed to outline ANY type of position on… well, anything… besides tax cuts for rich folks and corporations.

Today is the one year anniversary of Donald J. Trump being inaugurated. It is also the first time in American history that the government has shut down when one party has controlled all branches simultaneously.

No crazy pills. Just facts.

Elwood January 20, 2018 at 9:41 PM

you still haven’t learned that in the United States Senate it takes 60 votes to do anything have you?

mtzman January 20, 2018 at 11:08 PM

Elwood, both CHIP and DACA would have been easily approved if they had been brought up independently for a vote. Instead, the Republicans decided to use them as leverage and even then could only muster 45 Republican votes.

Publius January 20, 2018 at 11:49 PM

Fact: Obama illegally gave the DACA order by Executive ” I got a pen and a phone” action. All Trump did was reverse an illegal action and ask Congress to address the issue as is their duty.

Fact: Obama and hjs Congress did nothing for the “dreamers” when they held Congress.

Fact: Carter had a government shutdown when the Dimbulbs held the House and Senate back in 1979

Facts? No the usual propaganda from the left to promote a discredited ideology and economic dogma that has never worked anywhere or anytime…..Check out Venezuela and Cuba right now. Ask their citizens for their “facts”

Fact: Obama is no longer President – Thank God

What would have been funny if a journalist had asked the doctor in the Trump physical presser if Obama had any mental or psychological after affects of his heavy use of weed and cocaine when he was in high school, college, and beyond. Did his smoking give him the beginnings lung, throat, mouth, or other cancers? Did his diet of hot dogs and hamburgers and alcoholic drinks have any serious downsides to his health? Physically, his lack of coordination in simple actions such as throwing a baseball, swinging a golf club, or bowling might be a presentation of a severe neurological problem. As for physical strength he never appeared to be able to lift anything more than his immense ego which was all hot air and weightless anyway.

Average Joe January 20, 2018 at 8:22 PM

Hay Randy “the fact boy”. It takes sixty to pass the budget. And by the way. Aspirin January 23, 2018 at 8:03 AM

“Unchecked illegal immigration” is not a requirement.

Why are you bothered with facts?

Aspirin January 21, 2018 at 10:51 AM

The $3.00 wrench vs. the $39.00 wrench:

A YouTube video compared the performance of a $3.00 Chinese 8″ adjustable wrench to a USA made S&K Tools $39.00 8″ wrench and both wrenches performed equally well until the ultimate stress test was applied.

This test presented an extreme force far exceeding anything in normal usage but it did show the $39.00 wrench outperforming the $3.00 wrench.

The average person will pay $3.00 rather than $39.00 for a tool that meets the need.

Trump’s MAGA does not take this into account apparently. The $39.00 wrench will be competing in the same market as the $3.00 wrench. Making that wrench in the USA will require a significant increase in its cost, and selling price.

People will, again, be forced to buy the cheaper Chinese-made wrench.

This is what caused companies to flee the USA for overseas production . It wasn’t all about taxes. It was about not being able to compete against foreign-made goods.

Trump’s MAGA is a false premise. It does not change the global economy.

MAGA is yet another Trump election promise that is a lie.

DACA which was hoped to quickly provide Democrats with a pool of persons likely to vote Democrat rather than waiting 18 years for a person born in America to attain voting age originated as neither an Obama executive order nor a bill passed by Congress.

DACA was created on June 15, 2012 by a DHS policy memo issued by then Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano.

Democrats rigged it so neither they or Obama would take the heat when it fell apart. Napolitano will eventually be blamed and thrown under the bus as Obama and Democrats claim it wan’t us.

DACA probably would not survive long term in the Courts.

As we arrive at the anniversary of the Roe V Wade decision, we see a “women’s march” consisting mostly of women who support abortion on demand.

Now that we have the benefit of ultrasound and the common knowledge that an unborn baby has a heartbeat at 8 weeks gestation, it is hard to understand why so many women continue to support what is obviously a barbaric form of torture and murder.

Personally, I think most of those who try to defend abortion do so as an act of psychological self defense. Either they have had an abortion themselves or they have supported or enabled an abortion to occur. With over 60 million abortions performed over the last 45 years or so, we have millions of people covering their ears when the truth about abortion is told.

Those who have had or have enabled an abortion simply can’t allow the truth of the child’s humanity to dance around in their heads. It is just too painful to think about, so they remain in full denial mode. They write checks to Planned Parenthood so that PP can continue to promote the lies and distortions on their behalf.

Abortion is not just a moral and ethical failing on the part of women. There are also many men who support abortion simply to avoid the responsibilities of child support. Such men are soulless predators.

So go ahead pro-choice people. Hit me with your usual slogans like: ” It’s my body my choice” or ” if you don’t want an abortion don’t have one” or call me a hypocrite because I haven’t adopted 5 children yet. I have heard it all, and none of it is convincing.

I don’t think your rebuttals are convincing even to you – if you dare look deeply into the scar on your heart and soul left by your complicity with an abortion.

The best thing someone who has been complicit in an abortion could do RIGHT NOW is to simply admit you made a horrible mistake. Cry about it. Mourn the loss. Ask God for forgiveness. If you are Catholic go to Confession. A great weight will be lifted from your shoulders.

Fred P. January 23, 2018 at 6:53 AM

Abortion on demand under the guise of “pro-choice” is nothing more than murder….and the failure of the “pro-rights” crowd to fully take responsibility for their actions.

April 1, 2018, illegal alien criminals in Democrat controlled California who have recently obtained state driver’s licenses, or got them previously by lying about their immigration status, will automatically be registered to vote.
Since January 2015, according to the DMV, A.B. 60, a law passed by the California Democrat controlled Assembly, “allows illegal immigrant criminals to the United States to apply for a California driver’s license.
As of December 2016, more than 800,000 California driver’s licenses were issued to illegal alien criminals under the A.B. 60 law.
Additional thousands of illegals may have been gotten licenses prior to 2015 because they lied on their license application and claimed they were in the country legally.
No proof of legal residence has been required by the California DMV in recent years, so the democrat goal of gaining more than 800,000 illegal votes is here.

The liberal lunatic insanity has made California irrelevant in national elections.
