Really ??? January 12, 2018 at 8:35 PM

At 4:45 pm today, Friday, January 12, I witnessed 4-5 members of Concord PD on foot at the bottom of the right shoulder before the Clayton road exit on Highway 242 searching for something … anybody know more details?

My morning started with watching two guys in their late 20s carrying a six pack of Stella into Newhall Community Park and crack one open as they ascended the hill. Breakfast of champions!

What a month so far, after that Claycord question about traffic enforcement!!! First, I saw a fool driving recklessly on East Street during the first week of the month. He was speeding, swerving in and out of lanes, and jackrabbit starting at intersections (He caught every light!) When he flew up Clayton Road at high speed, I thought I wouldn’t see him again, but a motorcycle officer was parked in the credit union parking lot and zipped out after him. I followed and watched the idiot get pulled over. I drove past the car and the officer in a paring lot, and gave the officer a high sign; he smiled.

Earlier this week, while driving up 280 towards Redwood City I passed a CHP SUV parked on the shoulder. I was in the #3 lane, cruise control set at 65. A minute later I sensed a car creeping up on my right, and saw the officer pacing my car. He hung there for a minute or so, and when two idiots flew by us in the #1 lane at about 80, with the trailing car just a few feet away from the front car, he pulled away. He got into the #1 lane and tracked the two cars, and after a bit, he pulled the tailgater over. I had a huge smile when I went by them.

Hello, we need some specific recommendations on security cameras and floodlights, and any other home security recommendations for the outside of our house. We already have a alarm system. Thank you for your help!

Anon-2-U January 14, 2018 at 4:59 PM

One recommendation for lights outside of your home, try to make sure they don’t glare into your neighbors homes. I would also ensure that you don’t use bulbs that can be unscrewed, use LED lights, motion activated.

City Girl January 14, 2018 at 8:44 PM

I couldn’t agree more. The two homes behind me and the two houses across the street all have bright lights that shine in my front and rear windows, including three bedrooms. The house directly across the street has an outside light that goes off and on all night long. I have asked the neighbors to direct the light more downward, but nothing has changed. It is very, very annoying and rather inconsiderate.

Lovelace January 14, 2018 at 9:53 PM

Dig a moat around your house.
Fill moat with water
add 4 alligators
6 25,000 lumen led fixtures pointed out, including into your neighbors windows!

Good luck

Rented in Concord for years and now looking to buy. Does Concord not report data to the crime mapping websites??? I couldn’t see any info on the web. Pretty frustrating.

How is the Holbrook Heights neighborhood?

robbery watcher January 16, 2018 at 9:53 AM

Concord likes to deny its crime problem. They make it difficult to know the true crime data because in most cases (burglary excepted) they only report arrests, not crimes committed. and then they do not report by neighborhood, just the city at large. There is a robbery about every three days in Concord, with very few arrests. You have to wait every six months to get that crime data.

The schools near Holbrook Heights have an abysmal performance record. But if you put your kids in private school, or you don’t have kids, I think its an okay neighborhood for a first time buyer.

Kirkwood January 16, 2018 at 10:45 AM

I lived in Holbrook in the 70’s. If memory serves, the houses were about 1500 sq ft, no dining room and uninsulated walls. Every house had a huge Modesto ash tree that was gorgeous but produced a dump truck full of leaves in the fall. When the subdivision was built, it was aimed at educated and middle management types. There was a pool and park maintained by the homeowners association. Today, I don’t know about the demographics but prices should provide a clue. Can’t comment about schools because the social situation has changed dramatically.

It's Me January 16, 2018 at 2:18 PM

This doesn’t belong in the Politics thread because it’s as dumb as it can be… but in case you haven’t heard, some people who claim to speak for you and me, have declared independence. We are now proud (HA!) residents of New California. 51st, state! YEA! Take That Puerto Rico!!!
Yes, CoCo county is part of New CA. Can’t wait for my new New CA DL featuring the new state animal, the mighty raccoon!

Watching Jacques Pepin on TV just now. Everything is easy to him and I enjoy it. But I’m noticing that the click click click sound has been added while he’s slicing the onions. It doesn’t really match the picture. Another clack added on every shot. Not good. Another of my heroes exposed or just todays everything fake reprocessed images? If CVS can stop fixing up their makeup pictures can’t Jacques use the real sound? Maybe not since everone else on the tube is faking it too. Sigh

She Let Go
She let go. Without a thought or a word, she let go.
She let go of fear. She let go of the judgments.
She let go of the confluence of opinions swarming around her head.
She let go of the committee of indecision within her.
She let go of all the ‘right’ reasons. Wholly and completely,
without hesitation or worry, she just let go.
She didn’t ask anyone for advice. She didn’t read a
book on how to let go… She didn’t search the scriptures.
She just let go.
She let go of all of the memories that held her back.
She let go of all of the anxiety that kept her from moving forward.
She let go of the planning and all of the calculations about how to do it just right.
She didn’t promise to let go.
She didn’t journal about it.
She didn’t write the projected date in her day-timer.
She made no public announcement and put no ad in the paper.
She didn’t check the weather report or read her daily horoscope.
She just let go.
She didn’t analyse whether she should let go.
She didn’t call her friends to discuss the matter.
She didn’t do a five-step Spiritual Mind Treatment.
She didn’t call the prayer line.
She didn’t utter one word. She just let go.
No one was around when it happened.
There was no applause or congratulations.
No one thanked her or praised her.
No one noticed a thing.
Like a leaf falling from a tree, she just let go.
There was no effort. There was no struggle.
It wasn’t good and it wasn’t bad.
It was what it was, and it is just that.
In the space of letting go, she let it all be.
A small smile came over her face.
A light breeze blew through her.
And the sun and the moon shone forevermore.
Rev. Safire Rose.

I really like this poem. Having long ago let go, I must now relearn grasping and holding on tight, though.

Subway Sandwiches in Palos Verdes Mall/Walnut Creek had a red placard/Closed Health Depart notice on the door (dated yesterday) when I walked by this morning. 2nd time in about 1 1/2 years the eatery has been shut down by Health Dept.

The full inspection report is not yet online, but the Inspection Details lists major violations for (1) clean food surfaces, (2) hot and cold food holding temps, and (3) insects, rodents, birds, or animals present.

I checked on Mona’s Burgers, which is immediately adjacent to this Subway, Mona’s was inspected yesterday, also, and received a green placard.

Amazon’s 2nd Headquarters: The NY Times is reporting that Amazon has chosen 20 finalists for its 2nd headquarters. Only one finalist on the West Coast, Los Angeles. Here is the reported finalist list:

Austin, Tex.
Columbus, Ohio
Los Angeles
Montgomery County, Md
New York
Northern Virginia
Raleigh, N.C.
Washington, D.C.

Cowellian January 18, 2018 at 1:15 PM

Not being on the list might be a blessing, Mary. Getting all those jobs would be nice, but Amazon has a terrible reputation for the way it treats its employees.

Nashville already has a huge Amazon presence, and it is still on the list for HQ2. That wouldn’t be a bad thing if it meant actually getting needed infrastructure. Google Fiber has their foot in the door, and getting a tech giant like Amazon might encourage faster implementation. However, it would be a very bad thing if it only adds to the daily gridlock and the cost of housing. Nashville is growing by over a hundred people per day, and that’s not counting an Amazon influx.
