The Claycord Online Museum – BART’s Old Brown Carpet and Brown Seats

Hey, look at that, it’s BART’s old brown carpet (yes, carpet) and brown seats from way back when! Actually, it wasn’t too long ago when trains looked like this.

Who remembers this look?

note: this kodak slide is currently for sale on eBay.

Extremely threadbare with layers of petrified chewing gum throughout, the last couple of decades.

Wow back when Bart was actually clean for once. No urine or fecal stains on the cars YET. How sad it is how filthy bart is today.

Imagine what the stains on those carpets were from!

The commenters on this board would probably like to see these replaced with a horse and buggy and a gravel path, so we don’t have to pay any more taxes. Keep the wood grain, though.

Good color choice, they knew what they were in for

I wrote BART daily from 1975 to 2000 from Concord to Montgomery. All the early morning commuters knew each other so you ways had someone to chat to. No cell phones or laptops. BART was safe and enjoyable. Give me the good old days!

These days the brown floors or seats aren’t fabric.

I miss the carpet floors. They were filthy but much safer in wet weather than the smooth rubber used now. I wonder how many injury settlements BART has paid since putting in the new floors?

I remember the brown seats. I easily remembered, because United Airlines also used to have brown seats.

Yep, that was the decor when the system was designed and managed by professionals who respected their customers…..obviously changes had to occur

Looks the same! Lol! The fact that BART makes millions of dollars and also gets millions of taxpayers dollars, we should really expect more. The “new” trains are in reality a downgrade.

Wow throwback! I remember taking BART to Oakland with my grandma in trains like this.

Brown matches the feces stains so you don’t notice.
