Pacheco resident Juanita Buechner, 58, has been identified as the victim of a homicide Saturday night in unincorporated Martinez, according to the Contra Costa County coroner’s office.

Buechner died at a home in the 1200 block of Santa Fe Avenue after deputies responded there at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

The deputies provided first aid to Buechner but she died, Contra Costa County sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee said.

After the shooting, deputies arrested 47-year-old Anthony Shepherd of Concord on suspicion of murder and being a felon in possession of a gun.

Lee said Shepherd is being held on $2.05 million bail.

Detectives are investigating the homicide to determine a motive and the circumstances surrounding it.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office investigation division at (925) 313-2600 or the anonymous tip line at (866) 846-3592.

Correct. Neither of them were at their own home. I am baffled that people have guns out and in the presence of others, and somehow are fooling around with them. No safety on? I have no idea how people are so cavalier about guns. Apparently there was no fight or argument. Witnesses say it was an accident.
