(by Janis Mara) – A suspect is in jail on suspicion of murder on more than $2 million bail in the shooting of a woman in unincorporated Martinez Saturday night, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman said this morning.

Anthony Shepard, 47, of Concord, has been booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on suspicion of murder and felon in possession of a firearm, according to Jimmy Lee, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department.

Shepard is being held in lieu of $2,050,000 bail, Lee said.

Deputy sheriffs responded to a residence in the 1200 block of Santa Fe Avenue in unincorporated Martinez around 8:30 p.m. after a caller said a person had been accidentally shot, Lee said.

The deputies found a 58-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Lee. The deputies gave the woman medical aid, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, Lee said.

Detectives are investigating the shooting to determine the circumstances and motive behind the shooting, according to Lee.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division at (925) 313-2600. Anonymous tips can be sent to tips@so.cccounty.us or called in to (866) 846-3592.

I suggest everyone watch the Vice News episode on Bail in America and the for-profit system we have in the USA.

Every other western country has made Bail illegal.
Watch it, then research it more.

Bail is a totally unfair for-profit farce

MeMe December 10, 2017 at 6:18 PM

What is the alternative? Did the episode talk about that?

Yep! Better to let them all walk free until their court date. That way they can cause more havoc and/or flee the jurisdiction! As MeMe says, come up with a plausible solution. Complaints and statements like that are easy to make, especially in an anonymous environment. Solutions are much harder to come by.

Sad.

“accidentally shot” sounds like another Kate Steinle case. Sad

I believe bail is important for cases that include a possible murder…

MeMe December 10, 2017 at 6:19 PM

But if they make bail, they are still out waling the streets…

I don’t believe she was “accidently shot.” He’s a felon in possession of a firearm, he’s booked on suspicion of murder, and the bail is over two million. Probably a domestic.

Innocent til proven guilty

The name is actually spelled Anthony Shepherd. I wonder the name of the woman who lived there and is now deceased?

Puffandstuff December 10, 2017 at 7:36 PM

Anyone know the exact address?

Aaron December 10, 2017 at 7:36 PM

Some of you people jyst blow my mind.becasuse one is a felon doesn’t make him a mureder.im 40 year old felon .I got a felony when I was 18 and never been in trouble since.does that make me a murderer. You all that judge like that are just a bunch of lops with no idea of real life.suckers will alwaays suck

Anon December 10, 2017 at 8:25 PM

You’re a much-less-heard-of case of a former felon staying on the right path, and that’s great, but this guy was illegally in possession of a firearm.

Kentucky Derby December 10, 2017 at 9:51 PM

I call a spade a spade. The truth hurts. He’s been arrested on suspicion of murder. Your felony has nothing to do with these charges. You’re not in jail – and he is.

What’s a convicted felon doing with a gun? He knows he’s not allowed to own one.

People are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law – which this isn’t. He’s only innocent if he didn’t do it.

Aaron … If memory serves can petition the Court to have a felony reduced to misdemeanor. May be 1203.4, but a criminal attorney or perhaps the Court could give you accurate information.

Aaron,
You are not very bright. You can have your felony reduced to a misdemeanor and dismissed. Petition the court for a change of plea (COP). You are proof felons are not very bright and have a victims mentality. Your just another mud shark says this “Snowflake “. I have lived and not in a bubble.

This guy ain’t worth $200,000 to spring him ! Felon, let him rot in prison! He just cost us taxpayers over 2 million dollars while he’s in San Quentin! Sad story , I hope the DA Is relentless on him!
