The Water Cooler – CVS, Walgrees or Rite-Aid?

November 21, 2017 12:00 pm · 46 comments

The “Water Cooler” is a feature on where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.

Today’s question:

Which one do you like better? CVS, Longs, Walgreens or Rite-Aid?

Talk about it….

Walgreens! CVS is too expensive and Rite-Aid is across town.

Bring back Thrifty and their ice cream cones to my side of town!

I go to me local neighborly “Drug Store”, i dont like big pharmacy chains and support local.

Dera November 21, 2017 at 12:19 PM

Drug stores should be at least 600ft from schools & where children gather. They belong in unincorporated & industrial areas. Maybe having a drug store right next to the police station would be a better idea.

Walgreens now. I miss Longs.

Waldo November 21, 2017 at 12:25 PM

None! Bring back Longs!

BOOYAH! November 21, 2017 at 12:41 PM

What’s Walgrees?

ClaytonMom November 21, 2017 at 12:42 PM

Walgreen’s, but solely because of Sherman.

City Girl November 21, 2017 at 12:43 PM

Longs by a million miles!!!!

curly November 21, 2017 at 12:46 PM

I like the people at CVS in Countrywood and the sale prices
Although Walgreens has some different alluring products, they are too expensive and out of the way, with poor parking.

Walgreens. No contest (now that Longs is gone)

Concordejet November 21, 2017 at 12:58 PM

The only reason I like CVS pharmacy even at the BART terminal shopping center I always pick up my medicine there. My benefits cover the CVS caremark.

I don’t like Walgreens, I think it’s more expensive than Rite Aid, and I haven’t been to CVS since it switched from Longs. I use Rite Aid for prescriptions because they are closer to my home and they have my prescription history on file. The pharmacy staff know me by name and are friendly., but I rarely buy anything else in the store.

claytonWF November 21, 2017 at 1:51 PM

I love CVS and dislike the others. Love all the extra bucks you get on the receipts. And the local one in Clayton has very friendly people working there,

SmileWC November 21, 2017 at 1:53 PM

Rite Aid – Gold level – 20% off regular price on everything & Plenti points – good as $$ off your next purchase.

Incognito November 21, 2017 at 1:58 PM

I miss Longs, too.

Cowellian November 21, 2017 at 2:25 PM

I miss Longs. They set the standard. After we first got married, Rite-Aid fired my wife for getting pregnant. So we don’t do business with them.

Walgreens always seems cleaner than CVS, and it’s open 24 hours, so they are our first choice. My prescriptions all get mailed by the VA, but I get my flu shot from Walgreens.

WC resident November 21, 2017 at 2:42 PM

Rite-Aid seems more like a hardware store, Walgreens is a medical products store, and CVS is all over the map trying to become like Target but without the low prices. Thus, if I’m looking for a mop I go to Rite-Aid and then it’s on to Walgreens to get a Band-Aid. As I loved Longs I tend to not shop at CVS on principle.

Dorothy November 21, 2017 at 3:05 PM

None of them. I only use Walgreens to add to my clipper card.

GRX November 21, 2017 at 4:07 PM

None of the above.

Pony November 21, 2017 at 4:10 PM

I loved Longs. Now I use Walgreens. CVS is too expensive and you can get lost in there looking for stuff. The only Rite Aid I’ve been in was in SoCal. It was filthy and looked like a recent looting

Me November 21, 2017 at 4:44 PM

I miss longs. They had such good buyers. I spent do much money there.

KAD November 21, 2017 at 5:13 PM

I go to the CVS for the pharmacy and other health related items using the coupons I get from the pharmacy. The Walgreens pharmacy had long lines so I changed to the CVS close to my home.

The Mamba November 21, 2017 at 6:01 PM

Hmmm Walgreens, CVS and then Rite Aid, I’m only used to the one in PHill and they don’t look like they’re even trying anymore!

Cheshire cat November 21, 2017 at 6:16 PM

Walgreens. but i get my prescriptions at cvs cvs is expensive and has a crappy selection.

Chester Kitty November 21, 2017 at 7:12 PM

Sorry … I have to say LONGS!!!! These three stores don’t hold a candle to Longs.

Lambie November 21, 2017 at 7:35 PM

I don’t really like any of them, I used to go to Longs.
The hate the fact that you have to register to get the sale prices 🙁

Silva November 21, 2017 at 7:42 PM

I’m with Chester Kitty. I can’t get over the loss of Long’s, and I have no need to go to this type of store now.

Dr. Jellyfinger November 21, 2017 at 7:56 PM

Bill’s Drugs

Clayton November 21, 2017 at 8:58 PM

None they’re too expensive, Amazon is the way to go!

Greenjrl November 21, 2017 at 9:12 PM

None! They are such sad places to go into. I only go in an emergency.
p.s. I loved Longs!

me again.. November 21, 2017 at 9:37 PM

I hate them all. Too expensive. Have you seen the miles of receipt paper that you get from CVS?…ridiculous.

Mimi (original) November 21, 2017 at 10:24 PM

I miss Longs. I only go to CVS when absolutely necessary, I hate the carpeting and their prices. Rite-Aide? I’m not even sure where one is!! I get my prescriptions at Walgreens due to my insurance, but I generally don’t go to the drug stores anymore to wander around or buy miscellaneous items. I used to wander through Longs at least once a week.

nytemuvr November 21, 2017 at 10:35 PM

@Dr. Jellyfinger #31
Bill Ames was one of the best employers I have worked for. I wish I could have been under his employ for a lot longer.

Silva November 22, 2017 at 7:05 AM

Oh, yeah! I guess if I ever want to visit one of this kind of store again, I should try to remember of Bill’s Drugs! Oh, wait..

jen November 22, 2017 at 8:23 AM

Walgreens, it is around the corner from my Home, however Rite Aid for pharmacy – walgreens a lil dirty for that and the people there are always hacking up a 3rd lung and no one in the pharmacy cares to offer the sick masks…..guess to keep business…….CVS is only the snobs and then of course WalMart for its LOW prices!!!
Happy Thanksgiving you all 🙂

ConcordMike November 22, 2017 at 11:11 AM

Costco. Much cheaper and recommended by doctors.

anon November 22, 2017 at 11:20 AM

We lament the loss of Longs,
the shelves overflowed with choices,
the prices were fair.

In the same class none of the
alternatives belong,
to go to those places
I do not care.

Mom-in-Concord November 22, 2017 at 4:57 PM

Longs. I could always find what I needed there (and stuff I didn’t) for a fair price.

CVS is a poor replacement but the lesser of the other evils. Worst part of CVS is their online prices are lower, often by a lot and they won’t price match in the stores.

Be gentle November 22, 2017 at 8:40 PM

I miss Long’s!! My current choice is Rite Aid!

Mohairs November 22, 2017 at 10:13 PM

Hopefully Longs now exists in heaven because I miss it SO much. Mervyn’s was good too – back in the day.

macawlady November 23, 2017 at 9:36 AM

Walgreens. Rarely go to the others unless there is some kind of big sale on. CVS does sell the cheaper Crocs knockoffs and they are very comfy…I will buy those. Not much else!

Californian November 24, 2017 at 10:07 AM

Those CVS receipts tho…
