The Water Cooler – Colin Kaepernick Named Citizen of the Year by GQ Magazine – Who Would You Have Picked?

November 13, 2017 12:00 pm · 75 comments

The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday in the noon hour.

Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you, the GQ Citizen of the Year.

QUESTION: Colin Kaepernick was named the Citizen of the Year by GQ today. If you had the final say, who would you have chosen for Citizen of the Year?

Talk about it….

1 Concord Jack November 13, 2017 at 12:02 PM

I would have chosen Colin Kaepernick is well.

2 Simonpure November 13, 2017 at 12:06 PM

It would be Citizens. All the firefighters.

3 Starman November 13, 2017 at 12:10 PM

Desperate for sales

6 Mr. Fixit November 13, 2017 at 12:27 PM

Mickey Mouse!!

7 Original G November 13, 2017 at 12:30 PM

Anther example of the concerted effort by another part of the progressive liberal controlled media.

8 Bringit November 13, 2017 at 12:33 PM

OMG people…really this guy gets this…wait, OK I get it it’s GQ and isn’t any big deal.
I wouldn’t have voted for anyone for that magazine, it’s a has been…has been for decades.

9 Anon November 13, 2017 at 12:36 PM

Liberal media. I never would have voted for him.

10 Joke of the year November 13, 2017 at 12:40 PM

Its more like the biggest “Joke of the year”. Colin is garbage as a QB, hes a better bench warmer.

11 Concord Res November 13, 2017 at 12:44 PM

Is this their last issue?

12 Nikki P November 13, 2017 at 12:44 PM

This is the April Fools Edition I assume

13 Not shocked November 13, 2017 at 12:45 PM

I’m taking a knee on this one.

14 Taxpayer November 13, 2017 at 12:47 PM

Kaernick was used by his GF and now he is used by GQ … he’s just a dumb jock that doesnt know any better.. i feel bad for stupid people.

15 ClayDen November 13, 2017 at 12:48 PM

Donald Trump; he’s righting the ship from the dreadful Obama years.

I wish Kaepernick would just go away.

16 Mtz November 13, 2017 at 12:57 PM

All of the Brave firefighters who fought the fires in Northern California

17 THE ANIMAL November 13, 2017 at 1:09 PM

Totally agree with #11……………….

18 Maddog November 13, 2017 at 1:10 PM

Not this fool !!!!

19 SmileWC November 13, 2017 at 1:23 PM

Wow, what about that guy in Texas who ran out of his house and confronted a mass shooter who had just killed 26 people inside of a church.

20 USA November 13, 2017 at 1:23 PM

This smells as bad as when Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize – for doing nothing.

I would give it to someone that actually made life better, or made the lives of others better. Certainly any firefighters or law enforcement trumps this tool.

21 Cindy November 13, 2017 at 1:24 PM

Citizen of the year of what country?

22 Concord74 November 13, 2017 at 1:28 PM

GQ is not a magazine of quality and that speaks for the “Man of the Year”. Desperate to make sales!!

23 Silva November 13, 2017 at 1:28 PM

I like firefighters.

24 Did I Say That Out Loud November 13, 2017 at 1:32 PM

GQ is still around?

25 just a concordian November 13, 2017 at 1:33 PM

But but but… is he a citizen? I demand to see a birth/naturalization certificate!

26 Jo Ann Jo Ann November 13, 2017 at 2:00 PM

What a disgrace to name him citizen of the year, he doesn’t even respect the flag. I guess they think they can sale more magazines this way. Citizen of the year should be the fella who went after the shooter in Texas.

27 UnREAL November 13, 2017 at 2:01 PM

This must be a first class joke. There are a MILLION people on this earth including soldiers, teachers , etc, that would deserve this title more than this unpatriotic has been. I knew there was reason I never open the cover of one these magazines…

28 KenInConcord November 13, 2017 at 2:02 PM

EMPTY BARREL!

29 Elvis November 13, 2017 at 2:06 PM

I would say police and firefighters should be on the cover of GQ. Those very men and women who were unfairly maligned during the Obama administration which directly led to people like Kaepernick thinking it is an “injustice” for a police officer to shoot a punk criminal who has just shoplifted a convenience store, roughed up the clerk, and struggled with the officer for his service, presumable to kill the police officer so he won’t get arrested. Kaepernick and his ilk obviously have a very distorted sense of what the word “injustice” means. In their fantasy land, justice means you get to walk out of any store with any merchandise without paying anything, and without any consequences. Twisted and precisely the way liberals approach everything in life. And it seems to be “trending” if recent headlines are any ndicatioin. Cosmetics …. jeans … etc.

30 It'sme November 13, 2017 at 2:18 PM

The guy that stopped the shooter at the Texas church, anyone of the heroes in the fire here in N.Ca. or the Las Vegas Shooting.
But then again…. I would not spend a dime on GQ.

31 claycordianborn&raised November 13, 2017 at 2:34 PM

Absolutely pathetic!! 150% agree with the post by USA.

32 Mailma November 13, 2017 at 2:38 PM

If I had a subscription to OG I would cancel it. I would pick the fire fighters who fought the inferno in the North Bay.

33 anon November 13, 2017 at 3:09 PM

No way!!! Kap is a hypocrite that’s trying to extend his failing career. So many more deserving to choose from given our current environment.

34 WC November 13, 2017 at 3:25 PM

His next award should be Dummy of the Decade.

35 FAA November 13, 2017 at 3:36 PM

GQ must be run by liberal hacks. All current and former members of any branch of military service would be a much better choice.

36 wow November 13, 2017 at 3:45 PM

really? is this a joke? for what exactly?

37 Elwood November 13, 2017 at 3:48 PM

Does almost single-handedly destroying the National Football League qualify you to be citizen of the year?

What a loser!

38 LocaI November 13, 2017 at 4:12 PM

It seems like Kap triggered trump and his followers to escalate his peaceful protest into something bigger. Good for him.

Next, keurig will be named coffeemaker of the year.

39 Sandy G. November 13, 2017 at 4:19 PM

Just about anybody BUT him. He has started a poopstorm. He has no credibility as a football player or a human being.

40 King Archie the Invincible November 13, 2017 at 4:41 PM

He’s dirt. GQ is a rag!

41 Deplorable November 13, 2017 at 5:08 PM

TRUMP

42 Shasta Daisy November 13, 2017 at 5:22 PM

I read Science News and do not watch football.

43 RSD November 13, 2017 at 5:25 PM

What an insult to the real american football hero’s. Pat Tilman is the first to come to mind. Kaepernick couldn’t tie his shoes.

44 Mika November 13, 2017 at 5:25 PM

I don’t get it–he can’t even get picked up to play any where, but he get a this honor?

45 who cares November 13, 2017 at 6:04 PM

First who cares about Colin he is no longer a football player. He disrespects our American flag. During the election he preaches to millions to vote then doesn’t even take the time to vote himself. He needs to go away and stop disrespecting our country.

46 Enfield303 November 13, 2017 at 6:16 PM

Next he will be on the cover of Sports Illustrated as the man that killed sports. Quite the useful idiot.

47 Just a Thought. . . November 13, 2017 at 7:38 PM

Disgraceful!

48 Tim November 13, 2017 at 7:48 PM

He gets his 15 minutes of fame. That’s it.

49 Larry November 13, 2017 at 8:05 PM

This proves what a mess this Country is in.Thanks for nothing leftist liberals.

50 stillretired November 13, 2017 at 8:28 PM

Put the mastermind on the cover, not puppet!

51 Cautiously Informed November 13, 2017 at 8:44 PM

Again print media demonstrates that it is becoming increasingly invalid and obsolete.

52 Kaepernick Curse November 13, 2017 at 8:44 PM

Seriously? Didn’t GQ learn anything from the Niners? Now GQ will be plagued with the Kaepernick Curse. What idiots for selecting this tool to represent Citizen of the Year. More like Curse of the Year.

53 Amy November 13, 2017 at 8:52 PM

I don’t know anybody who reads GQ. It will probably be their last issue.

54 Jeff November 13, 2017 at 9:28 PM

Great job Collin standing up for peoples civil rights!!! A man who puts his money where his mouth is. If only we could all do that.

55 Princess November 13, 2017 at 9:56 PM

This horrible magazine must be going out of business, you would think they would put a picture off firefighters instead of this ignorant who is not the perfect example for children.

56 Rollo Tomasi November 13, 2017 at 10:07 PM

“Great job Collin standing up for peoples civil rights!!! A man who puts his money where his mouth is. If only we could all do that”

Fair enough. I don’t pay enough attention to him to argue otherwise. If he would stop playing the victim and trying to pass himself off as a football player, he might be relevant.

57 RSD November 13, 2017 at 10:12 PM

If Kaepernick really wanted to do the right thing he’d be in Chicago trying to save the lives of his so called brothers. 600+ b on b murders so far this year. Common sense would say that an average of 60 murders each month
should be more of a priority than the false civil rights narrative he’s pushing. All you civil rights clowns lose your credibility when you don’t do the right thing. Blaming the police and white people will never work. Obey and respect the law and magically all your so called civil rights problems will go away.

58 NinjaNurse November 13, 2017 at 10:17 PM

Thanks for the laugh. Now PLEASE get a hair cut!!!

59 Paladin November 13, 2017 at 10:36 PM

President Donald J. Trump

60 Maryanne November 14, 2017 at 2:01 AM

GQ really, people still read this magazine it’s still being printed really??

61 Dr evil November 14, 2017 at 6:01 AM

Please. More like idiot of the year. His “protest” got to the point where it cost him his job, career, and millions of dollars. Not only did he start the process that ruined the NFL for some, he set stupid a$$ examples for kids to follow. GQ should be ashamed of themselves. The is a desperate attempt to increases their sales. I say it’s time to bring back Montana. #bringbackjoe

62 abigjoker November 14, 2017 at 6:08 AM

Doesn’t a citizen actually have to act like one? Just proof that more and more of the American people have become sheep, following the flock lead by the media. What BS!

63 Mountainside Jay November 14, 2017 at 7:44 AM

Kaepernick is a perfect choice. A true patriot wants his country to be better, not blindly accepting the pain it causes.

64 Mimi (original) November 14, 2017 at 8:41 AM

Really? What a crock!

65 Larry November 14, 2017 at 8:55 AM

So who was runner-up,Bruce Maxwell?

66 Gunga Galunga November 14, 2017 at 9:08 AM

Lets see. Uses his employer’s company as a platform, blew up a locker room, help blow up a team, degraded the police and disrespected our armed forces. He took and continues to take away from those athletes who actually use actions to make a difference in their community and in the lives of others as they see their abilities as a gift and they should pay it forward.

67 Bill Cutting November 14, 2017 at 9:30 AM

63 And every person praising this guy probably have IQs less than 83 which is sad because KoKo the gorilla has an IQ of 83. Collin your community is in shambles because your people refuse to participate or follow this civilizations rules and standards. You perpetuate victim complexes within the black community. If left unchecked your method of protest will lead to civil unrest and violence. This guy and the people backing him are using the same tactics that were used in Russia 1918 that led to genocide. I can’t back anybody that is pushing for cultural Marxism and the destruction of western civilization. Collin hates white people it’s ironic he was adopted by white people and given opportunities Only to spit in the face of those who helped him with a false narrative and the maturity level of a nine-year-old

68 TIFOKCIS November 14, 2017 at 10:04 AM

JJ Watt collected 37,000,000 for hurricane victims.

Colin Kraperneck is awarded Citizen Of The Year.

This is world as the result of the prior POTUS.

69 America November 14, 2017 at 11:05 AM

Wow! Hair out to there…I would have chosen a good barber. But aside from that, whoever is doing the picking needs to stop using drugs. This guy is a total disgrace.

70 Fred P. November 14, 2017 at 11:40 AM

Less than ten percent of those who commented here favor him being on the cover.

Both GQ and colin are irrelevant,

71 Rollo Tomasi November 14, 2017 at 1:18 PM

@Mountainside Jay:

A true patriot participates in the process by voting.

72 Boycott the Circus November 14, 2017 at 8:38 PM

I wouldn’t vote for him that’s for sure! Law enforcement, firefighters, EMTs, nurses deserve it more than him.. SMDH..

73 Norgi November 14, 2017 at 10:36 PM

Black Lives Matter is an important civil rights movement, perhaps the defining one of our age. Colin had the guts to put his celebrity status on the line for something he deeply believed and store to lose much. If that isn’t the definition of a hero, or in this case a person if the year, what is?

All important protest is pretty much my definition polarizing. I admit his protest rubbed me the wrong way initially. But upon reflection, I’m getting it more now.

74 Rollo Tomasi November 15, 2017 at 5:20 PM

@ Norgi:

BLM is a group that advances identity politics through violence or the threat thereof. The KKK uses the same tactics to advance a different, albeit more sinister, ideology.

75 slagheap November 17, 2017 at 5:32 PM

him. or maybe BOB MUELLER!
