Walnut Creek Planning Commission to Discuss Winter Nights Shelter

The Walnut Creek Planning Commission on Sept.14 will consider Trinity Center’s request for a Conditional Use Permit to operate a winter nights shelter in the National Guard Armory at 1800 Carmel Drive, adjacent to Civic Park East.

Trinity Center successfully managed a similar shelter last winter with positive outcomes, according to the city.

Among the 61 people who stayed in the shelter at some point, 44 were engaged with a case manager; 19 found either part- or full-time jobs; 14 received temporary housing, and five were placed in permanent housing.

Do it now. Do not wait.

It was cold, windy, and rainy last night, and we have had many cold nights since the temporary shelters closed down last March.

Hope to see this happen again this year.

Peace.
