Home Invasion Robbery Reported in Walnut Creek, Suspects Still on the Loose

Walnut Creek Police are investigating a home invasion robbery.

At 8:50 a.m. today, two males brandishing handguns, entered a home on the 2800 block of Oak Grove Road.

The suspects confronted the residents (a husband and wife and their child) and stole a yet to be determined amount of cash and personal property, according to police.

The suspects fled on foot southbound toward Cedro Lane. A tan or gold mini-van, possibly a Honda Odyssey, was seen fleeing the area at the time but has not yet been positively identified as being associated to the suspects.

No one was injured.

Walnut Creek Police Officers arrived on scene within minutes of the crime being reported but the suspects were not located. A Pleasant Hill Police Department K-9 unit assisted in conducting a track with negative results.

The first suspect is described as a black male, approximately 20-30 years old, wearing a gray hoodie and blue jeans. The second suspect was a light skinned black or Hispanic male, unknown age or clothing, wearing a mask of some type over his face.

Anyone with information as to the identity of the suspects in this crime or who can provide additional information is asked to contact Detective Bill Jeha at 925-256-3518 or Sergeant David Rangel at 925-256-3573.

Finally – someone has the info and courage to print the obvious about crimes of this nature. It is always perps have gotten away but who/what are we are expected to watch for if there are no description provided. A vehicle color is useless as the same color and models are all over the place!

For those of us short memoried and map challenged location is area East of Ygnacio Valley Road near where Oak Grove splits into separate one way roads.
Hope word is spread to neighbors so CCTV recording can be checked.

Listening to scanner other day of arson incident in Concord’s state streets, East end of town, was impressed with neighbors alerting each other, providing information to Police by calling it in and personally offering info to officers.

For those considering considering CCTV for home.
‘FBI: Caught on Camera’ is a well done video on CCTV.

If more info wanted watch videos 10 – 21 in right hand column.

A home owner can install a CCTV system but it needs to be well thought out and if there are outdoor cameras walk test the system at night to see how well it works in low light conditions.

Any information on how they entered? Was the door unlocked? Did they just walk in or did they break something to enter?

Just wondering. Nothing negative to say either way. Just picturing how it happened and if it was me would I have had enough time to get my own firearm.

So many questions…why did they choose this house? Was it targeted? How did they enter? Did they kick in the door or was it a knock knock robbery?

Camera systems are great, but they don’t protect you in these situations. The police can be speedy, but probably won’t arrive in time, and if they do you probably become a hostage. This is why I’ve been known to have my loaded 357 in hand when someone shady knocks on my door. I usually just yell through the door but I’m prepared just in case.

Time to repeal the release-the-criminals legislation and ballot measures, folks.

5 Wondering? July 17, 2017 at 3:54 PM

Wonderful – more civil humans among us. Makes me glad to know that we cannot even be in our own homes – safe from all that’s uncivil and then look forward to this. Animals.

6 Hmmmm July 17, 2017 at 4:22 PM

Hmmmm…..aware of some distasteful humans living in my apartment complex who have had the police called on them many, many times who left recently in a gold honda crv of some sort. One is african american, the other has many tattoos on his face and is mexican (maybe why he wore a mask?) wondering if that could be them….

If that was my house both would be coroners office in a refrigerator.

A common MO for these crimes is a perp observing people at stores and then following them home and confronting them as they enter the house or shortly afterward. An older couple or a younger couple with a child are easy marks. Immigrant families are also targeted, as they tend to stash cash.

@ Mmmmmm #6 – I hope you called Detective Bill Jeha at 925-256-3518 or Sergeant David Rangel at 925-256-3573.

11 Rob U July 17, 2017 at 7:24 PM

Gee, I guess that while the criminals were stuck in commute traffic getting to Walnut Creek at 8:30 a.m., they had a nice trip back to Pitts/Antioch going in the non-commutative direction.
To Hmm, post #6 above, you should call the police with this info.

Too bad they are not shot dead by the home owner, scum of the earth these low life people are… the world would be better without them.

13 johnnywoop July 17, 2017 at 9:13 PM

Notice the different outcome for the victim in this home invasion.

Save your dollars people. One of these days these perps will pick the wrong house and, if they live, they will become the “victims” and the person that attempts to defend themselves and their families will need a “Go Fund Me” account, which we will all have to contribute to, in order to pay their legal fees!
Do you believe that you are allowed to defend yourself in California, think again! Study your constitution and defend it while there is still time!

15 Old Guss July 17, 2017 at 10:07 PM

Get a gun people and learn to use to defend yourself.

16 Same July 17, 2017 at 10:29 PM

I heard today BART has video of the suspects but is not releasing it without a signed parental consent form.

17 Pac islander July 17, 2017 at 10:29 PM

I know… let’s pass some more gun restriction laws. That will help because these bad guys pay attention to those laws while ignoring the other ones…

@ Paco – Quite the ignorant bigot. 2nd Amendment rights are constitutional rights, period.

2nd, go google the 2013 Centers for Disease Control study on firearms. The one that Obama commissioned and quickly buried after the CDC startlingly came to the conclusion that firearms are used in defensive roles much more than in criminal activity AND that firearms are a significant societal benefit.

They suspect must of known something in the house to target that specific home.

@walnutty….

FYI – there is no such thing as a “semi-auto machine gun.”

Please educate yourself before posting, as an uneducated open noun just makes you look like a fool.

Secondly, the politicians are workibg towards confiscation slowly by the ongoing passage of more restrictive laws. Bullet buttons, 10- round mag cap act Wake up!

Bullet buttons, 10- round mag capacity, “evil” features defining “assault weapons” (different than assault rifles), suppresses, 10-day waiting periods, magazine rebuild kits, max of x number of guns that can be purchased in a month, ammunition restrictions (type and quantity), background checks on ammo, banning of specific calibers, etc…..Wake up!

23 Nutcreek Frontier July 18, 2017 at 2:07 PM

Was wondering if 1) there was any footage from cameras from neighboring houses of the suspects and 2) if anyone knows if they broke down a door to get in? So much sympathy for the victims of this heinous crime.

24 Hmmmm July 18, 2017 at 2:53 PM

@George – yup, I did

25 Chicken Little July 18, 2017 at 3:28 PM

@Walnutty,
If you believe nobody is trying to take our guns, you’re the gullible one. The left can repeat that lie as many times as they want, but doing so won’t somehow make it true.

The handgun roster is just one example. The list of CA-approved handguns gets smaller every year. Taking away the right to buy a gun is the same as taking away guns.

26 Atticus Thraxx July 18, 2017 at 5:58 PM

Almost every Light, Medium and Heavy machine gun has a single shot or semi-automatic mode. The M2 .50, the MG-34 the SIG 550 come immediately to mind. All have a single shot mode. Now you could argue the definition of a machine gun with the National Firearms Act or the 1982 BATF ruling, making all open bolt semi-automatic firearms manufactured after the date of that ruling classified as machine guns. But to what end? 😉

An open bolt…. when ready to fire, the bolt and carrier are held to the rear. When the trigger is pulled and sear released the bolt goes forward, feeding a round from the magazine into the chamber and firing it.

27 Hotweather July 18, 2017 at 9:02 PM

The movie The Perfect Host comes to mind.

Guns are never the answer, unless you want to spend your last days lonely Prison. Common sense is the answer. Lock your doors, don’t attract creeps while out shoppimg/ banking. Don’t own over priced items. Live simple and humble and live will treat you well.

29 cornfed July 20, 2017 at 2:38 AM

@30

Guns are always the answer, unless you don’t have one when some turd breaks into your house and threatens your family. Then you can just tell him he’s not supposed to have that.

Have you explained to your family that they live like the Flintstones because you’re too afraid to protect your stuff?

30 cornfed July 20, 2017 at 2:39 AM

Including them.

31 cornfed July 20, 2017 at 2:42 AM

@Rambo is a fictional character…

Yours is a fictional post.

32 MovingOutOfCA July 21, 2017 at 12:39 AM

Well gun’s were the answer for THE CRIMINALS! Sorry, but because of our politicians, lax laws, comfy prison’s, open borders, highest amount of welfare, we ALL need to be ARMED. And install cameras. Both wired, and wireless. Have a backup battery for wireless in case your lines are cut. We went with The Ring system. Plus we have dog’s, big dog’s.

We are surrounded by bad area’s, with bad people. Maybe someday CA residents will get fed up with the liberal loons running this state, and all the liberal judges. Turn prisons back into actual hell holes, that NO BODY wants to go.

I watched a documentary about 10 years ago, that featured gang members bragging about going to prison, and how it wasn’t that bad. They would get their teeth fixed, their medical, get to watch TV, workout…. they were laughing about it. And quite a few were open about being illegals, and how they would never want to go to jail / prison in their home country.
