Oakland…What do you expect??????

Why would anyone willingly go to Oakland?

I’m taking drug deal gone bad in the betting pool.

Nothing good happens in Oakland after dark.

All these comments look like what people in Walnut creek say about Concord.

Yeah they don’t screw around in Oakland.

At all.

I love Oakland, born and raised there.
It’s real, it’s gritty, it doesn’t try to hide it ugly, like concord does.
Sweep that under the rug. Concord police playing games with meth heads while OaklandPds getting shot at every day.

Oakland is a great city, way more culture and class than anything this side of the Caldecott. Let me know when we get world class restaurants and entertainent in Contra Costa on par with Oakland, then you can tell me how much of a dump it is. Until then, maybe work on ending the violence and murder in “Claycord” before calling out a city you know nothing about.

Well to be fair, Concord is doing it’s best to become more like Oakland.

Get over yourself @Smokey!

I worked in East Oakland for 3 years. An exec at the company decided to take Bart into work from SF. He arrived shivering and covered in spit. He said a group of black men followed him from the Bart station, hurling insults and racists comments towards him, and spit on him. They did this for the entire 10 minute walk to work. Oakland has it’s issues. There are other cities with culture and class that do not have these issues.

What world class restaurants are in Oakland? Oakland is working towards becoming a garbage dump like Detroit.

14 Smokey May 18, 2017 at 5:02 PM

@Samantha

You misunderstood my intent. I wasn’t slamming WC but rather calling out Concordians. People in Concord get so defensive when others trash their city, but they turn quickly turn around and trash Oakland.

Jack London Square is nice and has some truly great restaurants. On par with anything in SF.

16 Joe Martinez May 18, 2017 at 7:33 PM

@Frank. You don’t know how to use Yelp? Do your own homework. And while you’re at it, try to Zillow home prices in Oakland and Detroit. I’ll let you figure out on your own which one is almost unaffordable to most Bay Area residents. Garbage dump my sweet patootie.

How are the restaurants in Iraq? Or Syria? I ask because you seem to favor dining in warzones.

Grew up in Walnut Creek and have lived in Concord for for almost 30 years. Concord has improved SOOOO much it’s hard to imagine why everyone seems do down on it.

I work in Oakland and it’s fine during the day. Wouldn’t spend time on the streets at night however.

Yeah, go ahead and root for a run down city like Oakland. If you live there, you need to move..that is if you have a brain and value your life.

I take BART past that dumpster fire called West Oakland and all I see is trash, human waste, meth heads, and more trash….so what “culture” are you referring to, Mr. Joe Martinez??? The kind of culture that shoots you while you are heading out to your beloved restaurants? If you want great restaurants, try downtown Walnut Creek. And you wont get robbed either.

There is a reason why 2 of those sports teams are heading out of there.

20 Old Guss May 19, 2017 at 10:34 AM

Looks like our friend Joe Martinez continues to live in denial.

21 Bill Cutting May 19, 2017 at 11:20 AM

No one would miss Oakland if a tsunami took it out. Should be called bartertown like mad max 3. Maybe set up a sterilization program? Wall it off like escape from New York?

22 BigPic May 19, 2017 at 10:31 PM

All of you are a joke, talking about city and their social class. Whatever happened to RIP poor guy or prayers to the family of the deceased!

23 Tony M May 20, 2017 at 5:12 PM

I wonder how many of the people making anti Oakland comments have actually been there in years? None is my guess

24 Mrs. Harper May 24, 2017 at 10:00 AM

You guy’s are ignorant that was my brother in law, it wasn’t a drug deal or anything of that sort nor was it a fight. His drugged up nephew sucker punched him and knocked him unconscious and then choked him while he was unconscious. This man was the best human being I’ve ever came in contact with. He was a person. So before you judge a situation get your facts straight

His name is Trevino Thomas
