DISPATCHER: Please Don’t Call 911 When Facebook & Instagram Stop Working

January 27, 2015 8:00 am · 82 comments

Last night, Facebook & Instagram went down for about an hour, and during that time, one local dispatcher says she fielded about 5 911 calls asking when the websites would be back online.

The dispatcher, who asked to remain anonymous, said “I just want to know if you can put a note out to Claycordians asking them to not call 911 when a website doesn’t work? We have nothing to do with Facebook and when Facebook isn’t working, it’s not an emergency. Our lines our dedicated to handle life and death calls, and even though Facebook is important to a lot of people, it’s not a matter of life and death when it stops working. One caller even called back to tell me I was being rude because I told her it wasn’t a life threatening emergency. Thank you Claycord for all you do”.

Thanks for taking the time to send a note.

Claycordians, for future reference, the number to Facebook is 650-543-4800.

Really? January 27, 2015 at 8:03 AM

And these people walk among us???

ArmydadCA January 27, 2015 at 8:17 AM

amazing January 27, 2015 at 8:17 AM

common sense is not that common.

Fast Eddie January 27, 2015 at 8:18 AM

@Really? #1 – And some are eligible to VOTE too!

Sanctimonious J January 27, 2015 at 8:20 AM

…and they vote!!

MomofBoys January 27, 2015 at 8:20 AM

Yes, they are among us and they vote. God help us!

Stop rocking that vote!

@Really January 27, 2015 at 8:20 AM

They also breed and vote!

SMDH January 27, 2015 at 8:23 AM

This is why we can’t have nice things…

Cellophane January 27, 2015 at 8:24 AM

Yes these people walk among us and these people vote.

I can’t find words to describe what I think about such people.

It makes me wonder... January 27, 2015 at 8:28 AM

…if these people had a brain, they’d take it out and play with it.

Hubby's off duty Sergeant January 27, 2015 at 8:30 AM

@#1 And they breed out children just like them.

Sick Of It January 27, 2015 at 8:30 AM

Just think how they vote.

Woman January 27, 2015 at 8:30 AM

of course it’s something asinine.

mamatosix January 27, 2015 at 8:32 AM

I thought you could be arrested for that? And frankly you should be especially the person who called back. Seriously.

ClayDen January 27, 2015 at 8:40 AM

Yes, they do walk among us; and they vote and reproduce. I think this has a lot to do with who has gotten elected in this beautiful state that is run by idiots.

oldman January 27, 2015 at 8:46 AM

Bizarro World

WC January 27, 2015 at 8:48 AM

Some people think the government must do everything for them. Facebook down, call 911. Drive thru window closed, call 911. Stupid people.

E dawg January 27, 2015 at 8:54 AM

Lmao @the animal !!!! Been saying that for years!

Killjoy January 27, 2015 at 8:55 AM

Sometimes I look at people and think “Really? THAT’s the sperm that won?”

Ricardoh January 27, 2015 at 9:00 AM

I am surprised so few people called 911. Ask your teenager if they know who the first president of the US was. I would be willing to bet a fourth of them don’t know.

mollycat January 27, 2015 at 9:01 AM

With all due respect, Mr. Mayor, are you sure this wasn’t just trolling? It sounds like a bit like an urban legend. Is this verifiable at all?

CLAYCORD.com January 27, 2015 at 9:34 AM

The information came from a dispatcher.

mc January 27, 2015 at 9:09 AM

those uninformed will call 911 just because they can. did you hear about that person who called 911 because halfway thru eating her fries, she was unhappy but she couldn’t get an exchange? what was she thinking?

GoGo Gomez January 27, 2015 at 9:09 AM

Dee Da Dee

The Mamba January 27, 2015 at 9:23 AM

I can’t believe these people walk among us. These callers should be threatened with charges, they could have been using up valuable resources working on actual life threatening emergencies.

Russ January 27, 2015 at 9:25 AM

I am officially calling this the apocalypse.
Remind me to call Instagram the next time my camera phone isn’t working

Anonymous January 27, 2015 at 9:26 AM

These people should be arrested. Symptom of relying on the government for everything.

Fixit Man January 27, 2015 at 9:26 AM

I guess it’s okay to run out of chicken McNuggets and call 911. This happened down in the Southwest a while back.

Dutch January 27, 2015 at 9:27 AM

There are five morons out there. I hope to God they don’t vote. Stupid, stupid people.

Anon777 January 27, 2015 at 9:28 AM

Can’t fix stupid!

anon January 27, 2015 at 9:31 AM

But what is a person to do if Claycord is down? Got to have my Claycord.

Mallory January 27, 2015 at 9:37 AM

Can we please fine the woman who called 911 twice?!

Evie Cunningham January 27, 2015 at 9:38 AM

I showed up in the kitchen last night where my husband was watching the little T.V. and he asked me what I was doing there. I said ” Facebook is down” “Ah, that explains it” says he.

just a concordian January 27, 2015 at 9:39 AM

I bet all the callers have CCW permits

jtkatec @ Killjoy January 27, 2015 at 9:40 AM

Adam Henry January 27, 2015 at 9:51 AM

#35, nice snipe. People that have CCW permits don’t broadcast.
But I can guarantee you that they were both repukeblican and demoncrats that called in. A bunch of morons deceived by the Fake two party aka one party system.

Schmee January 27, 2015 at 9:54 AM

Just gained respect for 911 dispatchers. Wow

mutts January 27, 2015 at 10:00 AM

One person called back? It’s impossible to fix stupid.

MEe January 27, 2015 at 10:03 AM

Someone once call 911 because they were out of coffee.

73 MONTE CARLO January 27, 2015 at 10:04 AM

People that don’t have any common sense will call 911 because they can. It’s happened before, and will happen again.

WC Mommy January 27, 2015 at 10:08 AM

Obviously 911 dispatch does not understand how urgent the situation can be when your crops on farmville are about to go bad.

Sanctimonious J January 27, 2015 at 10:19 AM

These people are clogging up the phone lines for those of us who call 91 when Burger King gets our order wrong!!

Missy January 27, 2015 at 10:27 AM

My husband has been a 911 dispatcher for 27 years. You all will never believe all the stuff people call 911 for!!! Cable being out, power being out, when will the power come back on, and the list goes on!

zorb January 27, 2015 at 10:29 AM

I’m pretty sure these people would have been eaten by lions and sabre tooth tigers if they were cave men and women.

Kai January 27, 2015 at 10:38 AM

I’ve sat in on calls to both 9-1-1 and 4-1-1 over the years. Believe me, they are out there. There are no limits on stupid.

J. January 27, 2015 at 10:39 AM

What are people doing when they spend hours on FaceBook? I look at it now and then and it only takes a minute to read the new posts.

Don't Call Me, I'll Call You January 27, 2015 at 10:45 AM

At least this kid has real “problems”

Michelle January 27, 2015 at 10:53 AM

Really! Why would they call again, this is beyond idiocracy.

marinemom January 27, 2015 at 10:59 AM

Common sense has died..RIP

MCat January 27, 2015 at 11:05 AM

Of course these morons vote! How do you think we ended up
with Obama?

Sanctimonious J January 27, 2015 at 11:20 AM

WowWow January 27, 2015 at 11:42 AM

Stupidity here never ceases to amaze me. Really unbelievable.

Mike "troll" Dame January 27, 2015 at 11:45 AM

i thought you were post to call 411 not 911 when things like this happen, i know the nice lady at 411 once helped me find my sox when i was a kid

RubDogRun January 27, 2015 at 11:51 AM

About par for the average Facebook
user, I’d say. Takes someone of
limited intelligence to enjoy that kind
of thing anyway and that’s what
Facebook is counting on.

Rob January 27, 2015 at 11:57 AM

Well – here is a case where a Facebook post saved a fathers life…

“Brianna Vance’s father, Gregory, was sitting on the porch in front of their house with two friends when a large tree uprooted by a storm fell down on top of them, ABC News reports. The storm took down mobile phone signals and the house doesn’t have a landline, but the younger Vance was still able to get online and record a Facebook message calling for help….

After someone saw her plea and called 911, a rescue crew showed up to free the men, who were sent to a hospital after an hour-long rescue. Once there, they were treated and eventually released.”

et-al January 27, 2015 at 12:15 PM

Ahhhh, the beauty of the young liberal democrat mind(less) at work.

Sacto Rob January 27, 2015 at 12:26 PM

When I worked at a radio station up in Grass Valley, people tied up the 9-1-1 lines one morning when they woke up and smelled smoke. Turns out the smoke had drifted over from a wildland fire some 80 miles away. The Sheriff’s office asked us to produce a news story reminding the public that 9-1-1 is for REPORTING fires and other emergencies, not to ask about them. We were happy to oblige.

Crazy Stupid January 27, 2015 at 12:30 PM

sad to say but this doesn’t surprise me. look at the people who walk around in the mall, shopping with their unfortunate offspring, driving with cellphones inserted in their ears…retard is retard and you cant change that. pretty soon, the animal kingdom will take over the world.

Stupidity Laws January 27, 2015 at 12:36 PM

Since their parents didn’t teach them common sense how can they learn from their actions. Stop feeling sorry and make laws that punish them. Then they will learn. Arizona had to create Stupid Motorist Law http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stupid_Motorist_Law , because people wouldn’t learn. Now they get it. Same with 911. We all grew up knowing what it was created for yet some dummies never get it. So make a law and start fining them. Can’t say can’t collect since 911 can pull up your phone and location. Fine them 100.00 1st time, 500.00 2nd time. Don’t feel sorry for them. Feeling sorry continues to allow stupidity. Only when there is a reaction to their actions will they learn, just like parenting.

RM January 27, 2015 at 1:14 PM

Former Scottsdale, AZ Mayor Sam Campana used to regularly call 911 for directions prior to becoming mayor. It was only discovered once she became mayor and identified herself that she was told it was not for directions.

ms.v January 27, 2015 at 1:37 PM

Not only do the callers show their ignorance but so do people who blame everything on one political party or another. Give it a rest.

M January 27, 2015 at 1:57 PM

Wow! Just wow. Seriously?!?

Felix Sanchez January 27, 2015 at 1:57 PM

Damn, looks like I did the smart thing and hit Twitter instead of the phone, that right there is extremely stupid.

jimmy January 27, 2015 at 2:23 PM

That is about as dumb as trying to draw political conclusions about people referenced in a news article that is supposed to be a public service announcement.

Eastbay Babe January 27, 2015 at 4:39 PM

Not surprising at all. Just look what people do when we have a small earthquakes. People are calling the police and sheriff. What the heck are they suppose to do. “Hold it there Quake, with your hands up. Stop shaking in the name of the law!”.

Anon January 27, 2015 at 4:54 PM

Did someone fart? I’m calling 911!!!!

OH ? January 27, 2015 at 5:02 PM

Try calling Concord dispatch at 5 am on non emergency number to report traffic signals and street lights out on Ygnacio with people running what should be a 4 way stop and you will encounter a level of RUDE as you’ve never experienced it.

Concord Guy January 27, 2015 at 5:06 PM

There are some very dopey people out there.

hessianerd January 27, 2015 at 5:49 PM

I’d bet dollars to donuts the callers were over 40… 2:1 odds they were over 50. otherwise they would be looking for answers on the internet…. Young folks are dumb in different, unique ways.

94521 January 27, 2015 at 6:43 PM

KPIX 5 just reported this on the 6:00 news, but did not give credit to Claycord.

Jesse January 27, 2015 at 7:58 PM

Channel 7 gave credit to Claycord.com when they reported on it this evening.

KAD January 27, 2015 at 9:51 PM

This is truly unbelievable. I hate to think that there are people so stupid that they would do this. We are doomed as a country.

Gus January 27, 2015 at 10:49 PM

These bafoons, what they thinking of. Next time send an officer out to see if they need to be committed to a mental hospital for evaluating.

ChampagneKitty January 28, 2015 at 12:36 AM

I would believe it. After over 20 years working in a call center, I can tell you that although they are certainly not the majority, there really are people out there who aren’t very bright. I was taught growing up that it isn’t a nice thing to say about people, but I am sorry; it really is true.

Connie Dobbs January 28, 2015 at 6:17 AM

So teaching people it’s the government’s responsibility to fix every problem has a downside?

ittybittyditty January 28, 2015 at 8:05 AM

And this is surprising behavior for a Facebook user why?

Silva January 28, 2015 at 8:17 AM

We missed you!

Tiny Harp January 28, 2015 at 8:31 AM

I’m scared of what the future will bring us….

ChampagneKitty January 28, 2015 at 9:05 AM

CONNIE!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

dante llanos January 28, 2015 at 10:01 AM

Bree January 28, 2015 at 3:42 PM
Connie February 2, 2015 at 12:33 PM

Well, they certainly do walk among us and propagate like crazy, but I seriously doubt they vote. Stupid people often do not vote at all.
