The Concord Police Department conducted a DUI Checkpoint on Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 10:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m., as part of The City of Concord’s commitment to public safety.

This checkpoint was one of many that have been or will be conducted throughout the year in the City of Concord.  The location of Saturday’s checkpoint was on Clayton Road near Ayers Road.

The goal of the DUI Checkpoint was to bring awareness to the public of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol and remove impaired drivers from the roadway.

The results of the DUI Checkpoint were as follows:

  • 349 Vehicles passed through the checkpoint
  • 345 Drivers Screened at the checkpoint
  • 5 DUI Suspects Arrested
  • 7 Field sobriety tests conducted
  • 1 Child Endangerment Arrest

These enforcement efforts were funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Zero illegal aliens were harmed, or held as that is a Federal matter and this is a sanctuary state.

2 anonmtz August 17, 2014 at 5:08 PM

Sure glad these 5 DUI suspects were not in Martinez.

Was the child endangerment because of no carseat or improper searbelting?
well, that’s 5 more drunks off the road.

6 ? August 17, 2014 at 6:23 PM

How come they don’t report how many unlicensed and uninsured illegals they let go any more?

7 It's not the CPD's fault August 17, 2014 at 6:37 PM

The Democrat lawmakers will not allow the police to do their jobs.

A pair of bills now making their way through the California Legislature would, if passed in their current versions, make it more difficult for patrol officers overseeing sobriety checkpoints to seize the vehicles of illegal immigrants.

The authors of the two bills — AB 353 and AB 1389 — acknowledge they’re providing cover to undocumented, unlicensed drivers who lose their vehicles at the checkpoints if they aren’t intoxicated.

AB 353, which is sponsored by Assemblyman Gil Cedillo (D-Los Angeles), would eliminate the 30-day holding period and prevent immediate impounding of vehicles by undocumented, unlicensed drivers. The bill would allow a licensed family member or friend to pick up the vehicle up to 30 minutes before the end of the checkpoint.

If you give illegals a free pass, you should give all citizens a free pass.

No requirement for anybody to have a license or insurance.

@? – Because then we’d be called racist for reporting those numbers. How about it Mayor those numbers were on past reports!

9 So much for public safety. August 17, 2014 at 6:47 PM

What should the police do about the tens of thousands of unlicensed and often uninsured illegal immigrants driving unregistered cars and posing a significant public safety hazard and imposing significant costs on all other motorists

What is being proposed is nothing but a back door way to provide licenses to illegal immigrants by surrendering the only tool there is to get them off the road: Seizure of their cars for 30 days.

The parade of people of good intentions who appeared before the commission to urge an end to what they believe is unfair treatment of illegal immigrants who make up so many of those faced with huge bills or the loss of their vehicles because of 30-day impounds.

For years, impounds have been the only tool to get these unlicensed drivers off the road.

“It’s like the vehicle’s being used in a crime and you’re ignoring it,” said Skobin. “I don’t understand why we wouldn’t want to take the vehicle off the road as a matter of public safety. I don’t think there should be a lot of sympathy there.”

The police union warned the plan would result in tragedies.

“The easily predictable result of this action is that we will have more people killed on our streets

What about the city’s liability is when an unlicensed driver gets behind the wheel and causes a terrible accident within hours or days after getting his car back after a traffic stop.

The “discretionary” decision made by the officer at the scene will be dissected and it will cost the city millions of dollars if jurors feel the car involved in a serious crash should have been impounded.

They should let the police do their jobs and take these dangerous drivers off the road.

5 drunk drivers off the streets is 5+ less deaths caused by drunk drivers. I think this was a nice effort by cpd.

11 Concord is a Sanctuary City August 17, 2014 at 7:13 PM

The Concord Police have to look the other way when illegals break the law.

12 Tommy Boy August 17, 2014 at 7:28 PM

I should sue the concord police department for reverse discrimination for impounding my car for 30 days.

Fair is fair, why do illegals get to get away with it when I can’t?

13 Duck August 17, 2014 at 7:31 PM

Good luck with that Tommy Boy !

14 Cautiously Informed August 17, 2014 at 7:34 PM

Tommy/12,
Because thanks to our POS politicians, illegal aliens have more rights and more protection in place than does law abiding citizens.

15 JWB August 17, 2014 at 7:37 PM

Thanks CPD for a job well done. I appreciate you giving up your Saturday evening for doing an important job to keep us safe.

For Tommy Boy sure go ahead and sue, try to find an attorney to take your loosing case. BTW neither the attorneys nor the court will accept your food stamps for payment.

And for the rest of your Claycord losers, listen to yourself, illegal aliens, sancutary city, scam to get overtime pay bla bla bla.

You are truly a pahetic bunch of losers, what a sad representation of the Claycord.

Stupid is as stupid says.

17 @tommy boy August 17, 2014 at 7:40 PM

Congratulations on making the dumbest post, and competition was stiff

18 claycord quality control August 17, 2014 at 8:46 PM

@15 and 17. You have insulted some other commenters, but neglected to address the substance of their posts. Are you implying that they are misinformed and that illegals are NOT given preferential treatment over citizens, or are you substantiating their claims but insulting them for finding that policy objectionable?

19 alex August 17, 2014 at 9:07 PM

I think California eventually will join Mexico again, and all American citizens will be kicked out lmao!

20 me now August 17, 2014 at 9:08 PM

How much revenue does that generate for the government? $30-40k?

21 Mar August 18, 2014 at 12:37 AM

This site would be better Just giving us the News of the area .No Comments Then We wouldn’t be subjected to these unbelievable comments . I understand Freedom of Speech .But most of you go too Far with your comments .Even when I was in a accident not too long ago Some of the comments did hurt me .

22 CLAYCORD.com August 18, 2014 at 12:40 AM

@Mar, this is a news & talk site. Please read the “warning” tab at the top of the page.

23 Connie Dobbs August 18, 2014 at 6:56 AM

Someone should do a welfare check on Mar. Apparently she’s being held hostage and forced to read the comments here.

24 Rollo Tomasi August 18, 2014 at 7:49 AM

@ Mar #21:

For someone who is reasonably intelligent, this site can be used as simply a source of local news. Please tell us how you are “subjected to” the comments. Are you incapable of skipping the comments section?

Skipping the comments is quite simple, but it takes the same mindset as someone who doesn’t need to slow down and gawk at a roadside traffic accident.

25 Why insult August 18, 2014 at 8:08 AM

Seems to be a lot of bashing today, cant we just get along?

26 Concord Guy August 18, 2014 at 8:19 AM

Concord PD should set up a DUI checkpoint on northbound Kirker Pass at the Concord Pavilion. I’m sure that this would snag more than five people, as the Pittsburg/Antioch people would be on their way home after a night in Walnut Creek.

27 Shelly August 18, 2014 at 8:57 AM

It’s ok Mar, it’s only a blog.

28 Anon August 18, 2014 at 9:27 AM

@26 How about Walnut Creek having a check point to stop drunk drivers before they enter Concord !

29 JRConcord August 18, 2014 at 9:56 AM

Group. Hug. O:-)

30 @ Tommy Boy August 18, 2014 at 11:24 AM

If your car got impounded under 14602.6 CVC – 30 day impound, you were not an unlicensed driver or a driver who got their vehicles stored incident to arrest. You were a Negligent Operator and your driver license was suspended or revoked either do to too many accidents, too many ticket or DUI conviction and suspension/revocation by the Court or DMV action due to DUI arrest.

Comparing apples to oranges.

31 jesus August 18, 2014 at 11:34 AM

Illegal inmigrants would get a dl if they could. They make an effort to get their cars insured and registered. Plus mr brown will be issuing DL next year or in about 6 months. Which is great for everyone.

32 Concord Guy August 18, 2014 at 5:07 PM

@28 Anon. Better idea than mine!
