Military Helicopters Give Clayton Residents a Quick Air Show on Tuesday Morning

Four military helicopters circled over the City of Clayton on Tuesday morning.

Nobody knows where they were headed, but they decided to give the residents of Clayton a second look before they flew away.

Thanks to Deena for the picture shown above!

Did anybody else out there hear/see them?

I have a good friend who called me this morning who is a helicopter pilot that fights fires. He lives in Sonoma County and was in Concord. I believe it was for business. Perhaps these helicopter pilots were here for that purpose too??

I noticed a lot of army or national guard convoys in Oregon and Washington last week. Wonder what’s up?

Marines Baby! …… 2 Bell UH-1 Venom’s and 2 AH-1Z Super Cobra or Viper, can’t tell by the photos

PH Dad August 5, 2014 at 4:25 PM

Nice call Roid. Venom’s have the tailrotor on port side. Bet it sounded good.

Lovely, and not too close a formation at all. Summer months are when reserve units of the various armed services have to serve 2 weeks of active-duty maneuvers……..just a guess that this is something related?

Sending thanks to all those in the Reserves. Other men and women have two weeks off from their civilian jobs and get to go on a two-week-long family vacation…..not the Reserves, unless they have a VERY understanding boss who gives them extra weeks off!

@ Dennis, flying helicopters is still flying helicopters no matter what division they are…….:)

While attached to the 3rd Inf Div I saw these formations frequently. The Cobra/Kiowa combination was called a hunter/killer team, a remnant of the so-called Pink teams of the Vietnam era. I think now the Apache platform especially latest generation, makes the use of a scout moot.

No, not close enough.

Barak and Michelle heard that Clayton was one of the best 50 small towns in the USA and were looking at prospective homesites for their next chapter.

Duck August 6, 2014 at 2:44 AM

It was a fly by for the fallen Major. Gen. Harold Greene who was killed in action in Afghanistan yesterday.
And No they weren’t flying too close to each other……… fact that was a very loose formation because they were flying over a populated area.

black helo August 6, 2014 at 5:46 AM

There were several of the ‘Osprey’ aircraft that were flying southward yesterday afternoon.

Three just flew over my house in north corcord a few mins ago. Loud I think they looked like HH3F pelicans but I don’t think they use those anymore. But about a week ago I saw 4-5 ww2 fighter planes (couldn’t tell the type) flying towards The airport. They were blue, and flying in formation.

suzette August 6, 2014 at 2:53 PM

I saw them while I was out at my horse pasture on Marsh Creek Rd. They were flying low and slow! Very nice.

iluvfriedchicken August 6, 2014 at 3:30 PM

Saw two groups of two fly over my house heading toward Mt. Diablo. The first group looked like Pave Hawks. About 15 min. later the second group flew over. They seemed bigger with two large tanks on the underside of the helicopter. What’s going on?

Jesse August 6, 2014 at 4:13 PM

I saw the two pairs, too, today. They made quite an impressive sound as they flew overhead.
