Spare the Air Alert Issued for Friday

July 31, 2014 · 16 comments

A Spare the Air alert has been issued for Friday because of unhealthy pollution levels expected in the Bay Area, air quality officials said today.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued the alert, its seventh of the summer season, because of a combination of high temperatures, low winds and vehicle exhaust that is expected to cause unhealthy ozone pollution in the region on Friday.

“Motor vehicles are the number one source of smog in the Bay Area, so going where you need to go without your car can make a big difference in air quality all summer long,” air district executive officer Jack Broadbent said in a statement.

The most recent Spare the Air alert was issued for last Friday because of similar hot weather and low winds, according to the air district.

Excessive ozone pollution can cause throat irritation or other medical problems, particularly for young children, seniors or those with existing respiratory or heart conditions, air district officials said.

To find out when a Spare the Air alert is in effect, residents can visit www.sparetheair.org, call (800) HELP-AIR or connect with Spare the Air on Facebook or Twitter.

Who cares if you can’t breath when you have blood pouring out of every mucus membrane in your body?
Is it just me or does this seem like a bad idea?

CDC, do you want a zombie apocalypse… because this is how you get a zombie apocalypse.

Spare the Air Day! No one cares and no one will do anything to lower the pollution. Tomorrow there will be millions of cars, trucks, airplanes and refineries doing the same thing they do everyday. Pollute the air.

Jack Broadbent can kiss my a$$. I will drive as many extra miles in my 8 miles/gallon 1972 chevy step side tomorrow, simply to protest against Jack Broadbent.

This means I can’t light a fire to stay warm.

This happens all the time, somebody is going to light a fire. This may not be exactly what, but somebody is not going to care about how much the fines are. Illegal immigrants do this all the the time, they gather around a pit a bbq whenever and what ever they want.

My grill is going on high tomorrow and the day after!

dang! and I just cleaned my fireplace!

That’s fine, Yevette, it’s okay to grill as long as you’re using gas and not charcoal. But why would you want to grill during a heat wave? Won’t grilling during extreme heat make you uncomfortable?

Marianne is right, the illegals do that, and more. Which brings us to the water shortage! Why should I conserve when Jerry Brown is inviting more illegals here who know zero about saving water? This alone makes me think I’ll vote for Neel.

If the Kommisars at the BAQMD really cared about the people’s movement and the environment, they would work to bring back FREE public transit on spare the air days. But they don’t care about that; it’s all about the money and their pensions.

Try this idea: Spare the Air day: all government employees (nonessential, of course) get an unpaid day off. That WILL reduce pollution overnight!!!

Get used to it. Even if they don’t bring them intentionally, our porous borders are going to mean more and more of this stuff making its way here. We’re goin’ Third World folks.

When Obama and his ilk are done no one will want to come here.

#12, Well that’s good, right?

14 mutts August 1, 2014 at 12:19 PM

No, its bad news to be a third world country. Look around.

15 Silva August 1, 2014 at 5:05 PM

I’ve been to a third world country or three, and this isn’t one.

it would be so awesome to have all the idiots that say they hate the air quality district to get an acute case of COPD. i’d like to see their faces when the doc says ” well, it’ll probably go away – if you move up into the mountains for a few months. ” ha, ha, ha, ha. ha.
