UPDATE: Illegal Fireworks Sparked Blaze Near Boundary Oak Golf Course

Illegal fireworks sparked a blaze that burned about half an acre of vegetation near the Boundary Oak Golf Course in Walnut Creek over the weekend, a fire official said today.

Crews were dispatched to the fire around 11:50 p.m. Saturday on Valley Vista Road near the golf course, Fire Marshal Robert Marshall of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said.

Firefighters had the fire under control within 30 minutes, Marshall said.

He said the fire broke out not far from the area where a string of arson fires occurred in May and fire investigators have determined that fireworks were behind the blaze.

“It’s pretty obvious that the area is a local party spot,” he said.

No injuries were reported in the fire.

Too many idiots in our community. Where is common sense these days?? Perhaps they should stake out that party spot and try and catch the culprits and then make them clean up the parks, fields and streams as punishment…

Educate “idiots” to proper places to set off fireworks.

I like the Fire Marshal. He’s Marshal Marshall.

Please don’t refer to them as “Illegal Fireworks.” They should be called “Undocumented Pyrotechnics.” Thank you Claycord for being a community leader and stopping the hate against incendiary entertainment devices.
