Claycord – Talk About Politics

This post is “Talk About Politics”.

Please use this post to talk about politics, and keep politics out of the “whatever” thread.

Thank you, and be kind to each other!

401 Transparent and Ethical July 31, 2014 at 5:58 AM

“A good friend of mine apologized to me today. You see, he voted for Barack Hussein Obama in the 2008 election and he lives in a so-called “swing state.” He told me that he had not voted for Obama in the 2012 election, but that he realized that by supporting him in 2008, he had help unleash a deadly virus onto the American scene. He simply said he was sorry.

I think a good many Americans feel much the same as my good friend. They know that they were seduced by the very slick presentation that Barack Obama made in the 2008 campaign. They bought into the promises that he made about deficits and transparency and ethical government.”

402 Why Should he Care July 31, 2014 at 6:25 AM

“When asked about the President’s handling of the immigration issue, only 31% said they approve while a whopping 68% disapprove. That’s a 14 point shift against the president since the middle of May…”

He doesn’t care about America long term, only thing that matters now is his mark in history. Like so many before and after him, legend in their own mind.
His senate replacement has his HUGE mausoleum already built.

403 With A friend Like These July 31, 2014 at 6:52 AM

” “Obama is a fool, and Kerry is an idiot.” “The Americans’ behavior has angered not only Israel, but all moderate forces in the region.” “There is no other way to describe [American dealings] than as a perversion of morality and diplomacy.”

Those were some of the nicer things one could hear Israelis muttering about the American leadership this week.”

404 More Golf July 31, 2014 at 7:08 AM

‘Another report nails Obama for poor planning, mis-management, incompetence ‘

“Yet another government audit out Wednesday, this one dissecting last fall’s ObamaCare roll-out debacle. Everyone except Obama, he claims, knew about it instantly on Oct. 1 when the half-billion dollar website collapsed, over and over, after three years of development, as in 36 months.

The new report from the nonpartisan General Accounting Office blames systemic problems such as poor planning, lack of follow-up, ineffective oversight and chaotic coordination. Expenses for the website alone stand at $840 million — and that was last March!

“As the cost of the (website) closes in on a billion dollars,” House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Fred Upton said, “even to this day the system is not fully built.” could have done it for much less.

But ObamaCare is just the latest failure. Remember that awful Benghazi night of 9/11/12 when the president was somewhere unknown while four poor Americans died at the hands of a terrorist mob with zero rescue effort attempted?

The Accountability Review Board that investigated that scandal without talking to the woman in charge that night, Hillary Clinton, found systemic failures of management, planning and oversight by the Obama administration crew. But no one was held accountable.”

Reminds you of a spoiled, immature, rich 7 year old perpetually lacking adult supervision who is never held to account.

405 Candid Truth July 31, 2014 at 7:16 AM

In case you have doubts, this was attributed to a top Obama advisor just before the last election.

‘ After we win this election, it’s our turn. Payback time.
Everyone not with us is against us and they better be ready because we don’t forget. The ones who helped us will be rewarded, the ones who opposed us will get what they deserve.

There is going to be hell to pay.

Congress won’t be a problem for us this time.

No election to worry about after this is over and we have two judges ready to go.”

406 Something she wrote? July 31, 2014 at 7:30 AM

“Scandal: A congressional panel has released new emails from top IRS official Lois Lerner, revealing a boiling hatred for the conservatives she illegally targeted. So much for claims that she was just a disinterested bureaucrat.

The latest batch of emails released Wednesday by the House Ways and Means Committee contained more than a “smidgeon” of hatred and intolerance from the IRS chief of tax-exempt organizations already famous for singling out conservative Tea Party groups for enforcement scrutiny.”

407 da Park, da Park July 31, 2014 at 7:33 AM

“Former Clinton administration press secretary Mike McCurry is quietly waging a campaign to quash coverage on a new tell-all book that exposes Bill and Hillary Clinton’s massive political empire.”

Could be worse, could be found in a park, … holding a note.

Oh old man Dennis of course bla bla bla

Face it you can’t hide your spots.

BTW interesting observation that you read “people not like you” as synonymous with “Black”.

And where do you get the audacity to judge others who you don’t even know?

410 Finally July 31, 2014 at 8:05 AM

“Wisconsin’s controversial 2011 law that severely limited collective bargaining for public workers, sparked massive protests and drove the failed effort to recall Republican Gov. Scott Walker was upheld Thursday by the state’s highest court.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court closed the book on the last of the major legal disputes over Act 10, ending a three-year legal struggle with its 5-2 decision.”

Wisconsin voters finally have relief from practice of politicians buying votes thru overly generous pay, benefit and retirement packages to public employees.

411 furian July 31, 2014 at 8:14 AM

So Dennis believes onlythose that serve in the military have done somethi g for their country?

NLRB Ruling Puts SEIU Within Reach of McDonalds

NLRB to McDonalds: “your political payoffs are inadequate! How’d you like to have a Union shoved up your nether regions”.

Follow the money: low paid fast food workers will be forced to pay union dues to help elect more corrupt Democrats.

Possible good news: Two of the five members of the NLRB, who’s appointments were ruled invalid by SCOTUS are still sitting. Any current NLRB rulings could be overturned in court.

Back in the 1920′s when labor laws and the rights of the employee were unheard of, unions made sense. Today, collective bargaining benefits poor performers and punishes high performers. Even though Sally works her tail off and Bob screws around all day, they make the same, because they are considered “equal.”

Democrats know where their “bread is buttered”. Or better yet their “sesame seed buns”. And, they like lots of special flavors (I mean favors). Legal or otherwise.

Leftist media collusively reports only on a small portion of the Texas border, ignoring other states.
“Pinal County, AZ Sheriff Paul Babeu announced that over 120,000 illegal immigrants have been arrested in just the Tucson sector of the southern border.”

How many foreign national terrorists, that will commit future attacks inside the USA have already, simply walked across our Southern border?

How will history treat DEMOCRATs if terrorists posing as illegal immigrants were allowed to stay in the country by, president permiso.

But what’s more important his place in history or preventing a terrorist attack?
Is America less hated than Israel?
Does Israel have open borders?
Will border security in America only be taken seriously after another 9/11 type attack?

415 ...... July 31, 2014 at 8:59 AM

WASHINGTON (AP) — A former IRS official at the heart of the agency’s tea party controversy called Republicans “crazies” and more in newly released emails.

Lois Lerner used to head the IRS division that handles applications for tax-exempt status. In a series of emails with a colleague in November 2012, Lerner made two disparaging remarks about members of the GOP, including one remark that was profane.

Republican Rep. Dave Camp, who chairs the House Ways and Means Committee, released the emails Wednesday as part of his committee’s investigation. Camp says the emails show Lerner’s disgust with conservatives.

In one email, Lerner called them crazies. In the other, she called them “assholes.” The committee redacted the wording to “_holes” in the material it released publicly, but a committee spokeswoman confirmed to the AP that the email said “assholes.”

Congress and the Justice Department are investigating whether the IRS improperly scrutinized applications for tax-exempt status from conservative groups.

Ok, liberals – how are you gonna blame this on Bush? You’ve got $hit all over your face that you can’t get rid of, and all you’re doing is blaming Bush, crying racism, and generally deflecting the question. Your buddy Eric Holder (AG of the US) refuses – yes, refuses – to investigate the issue; and that tells me the issues and problems go ALL the way to the top….to your dear leader.

More Chicago style lies from the kool-aid drinking libs. Which would you rather be – a “wingie”? Or a lying liberal that can’t even follow the laws he signed and doesn’t know squat about the Constitution? Obviously, those in the current administration have made their choices – and I hope they get their just desserts come November.

That’s nice, elwood, now you’re repeating me.

417 Connie Dobbs July 31, 2014 at 8:59 AM

Yep, totes uncool for JWB and shadowblade to imply only caucasians become first responders. Maybe that’s been your experience. Don’t flip out of you need an ambulance someday and your EMTs are not quite white. They’ll be wearing gloves. It’ll be OK.

426 JWB July 31, 2014 at 11:11 AM

Really Connie that’s what you read from my post? Do you want to point out where I would have made such a statement?

As matter of fact I only translated from Dennis-speak to plain language and did not imply anything.

Your post is about as silly as me saying in your statement in #419 you imply only first responders could not be caucasians but not doctors since you don’t mention doctors?

427 . July 31, 2014 at 11:33 AM

Anyone notice that in Tuesday nights special city council meeting (Concord) they put forth measure q V2.0, but also hit all candidates with a “pay to play” increase?

That simple font change increased candidates’ cost for a ballot statement to over $2200. That is after their move to 300 words instead of 250. (And increase from ~$750 to over $1500).

And it is all due at time of filing (Aug 8 at latest), or no statement.

So from $750 to $2250 in a matter of months and all due up front.

What do they have against facing independent citizens trying to stand up?

Was it getting pushed to finally address lifetime healthcare for Council Members?

Note that Edi was first to chime in saying he would sign a contract that he would refuse the benefit.

Well, actually, he was the ONLY one to chime in. Two members set to possibly ‘earn’ it if re-elected were incredibly silent, and suddenly transfixed on their hands and paper on the desk, not even looking up until the moved on to the next item.

You don’t have to vote for me, but voting for them is giving away 2 lifetime health care policies, and their costs. And as I know have less than 10 days to raise the additional money – any contributions greatly appreciated. The others already have $50,000-$60,00 in payo, err, I mean, donations, from certain interests.

433 Had Enough YET ? July 31, 2014 at 1:49 PM

Just in case you need more proof why Everyone who has been in congress over 10 years needs to be voted out.

“The border bill that was apparently defeated by conservative GOP legislators would have greatly expanded the “unaccompanied alien child” loophole that is now being used by at least 80,000 Central American youths to win legal residency in the United States.”

“…would have greatly expanded the “unaccompanied alien child” loophole…”
Secure the border PERIOD.

“Military veterans, cops, firemen, first responders, doctors and nurses, people who build hospitals and bridges and freeways are WE THE PEOPLE.

You, OCCUPY, ACORN, anti-American protesters, illegals, welfare leeches and parasites, are not WE THE PEOPLE”

When I first read that, race never came to mind. Race only came to mind when JWB decided to interpret it that way. Why is it that the “progressives” here are always the first to play the race card?

These people are going to be apoplectic if there is a viable conservative, or even centrist, candidate in the next presidential election who isn’t Caucasian.

Hey Rollo read Connie’s post at #433

“Military veterans, cops, firemen, first responders, doctors and nurses, people who build hospitals and bridges and freeways are WE THE PEOPLE.

You, OCCUPY, ACORN, anti-American protesters, illegals, welfare leeches and parasites, are not WE THE PEOPLE”

these statements are “dog whistles” and I agree with her.

439 et-al July 31, 2014 at 2:48 PM

Suing a criminal who is the leader of the criminals is a waste of time. The president ignores laws; has an attorney general that picks and chooses who to prosecute.
What can be expected if a judge rules in favor for the GOP? The president will just keep up with his agenda.

440 What security July 31, 2014 at 2:53 PM

Only in America our presidents don’t face prosecution for their crimes.
I’d start with Bush jr, then go after Nancy Reagan for her husband horrible act towards humanity, and for the selling of arms to Iran to fund a war in Central America

441 JWB July 31, 2014 at 3:00 PM

it might be waste of time if you sue the president for “bypass[ing] the legislative process to create his own laws by executive fiat,” and the very next day are saying: “There are numerous steps the president can and should be taking right now, without the need for congressional action, to secure our borders and ensure these children are returned swiftly and safely to their countries.”

But then again, we know this lawsuit is about the law it is only to provide some red meat forbase i.e. folks like et-al. So calling it a waste of time is not entirely correct or not?

442 Dennis July 31, 2014 at 3:09 PM

exactly. I’m gonna remind them that if the GOP puts up non-Caucasian candidates, and they DON’T vote for them instead of the Dem candidates, it is because, using their own logic, they must be racist.

And yes, my groups listed people who contribute to society, who serve this country, and the other group which does nothing but take from the country. Nothing involved race. It only split the population into two groups as defined by JFK:

Those who do for the country, and those that don’t.

Of course, the tantrums thrown by JWB, furian, shallowbrain, etc. as a response are clear evidence that they aren’t in that first group.

my original point was (and is) that people who are in that second group are not WE THE PEOPLE, and are unqualified to pass judgment on those who are.

Does ShallowBrain think that Congress, Bush, and dozens of allied nations were wrong about Iraq? So what?.

US Policy is formed by, of, and for WE THE PEOPLE. Not the leeches and parasites.

Personally, I feel that JWB, furian, etc are trying to hide amongst the WE THE PEOPLE group to do their attacks, sort of like Hamas hides themselves and their weapons amongst the civilian population.

443 Rollo Tomasi July 31, 2014 at 3:13 PM

“Military veterans, cops, firemen, first responders, doctors and nurses, people who build hospitals and bridges and freeways are WE THE PEOPLE.
“You, OCCUPY, ACORN, anti-American protesters, illegals, welfare leeches and parasites, are not WE THE PEOPLE”

– I love it when all the neo-con sources get so boring that even Dennis can’t post the crap.

– In lieu of reposting something even more boring, he goes to flaming the thread, liberals, left leaning conservatives, independents, right leaning liberals, inner city populations, and the other 93% of the US population.

– Dennis feels that people who are not public servants, or in the transportation or healthcare sectors are not worthy. [That cuts Connie and the five kittens out*]

Only 2,000,000 of 22,000,000 living military veterans have been in “hot” combat. [Saigon based, office administration duty, does not count*]

Actually, just serving a few years, as an enlisted corporal in the military does not establish “trump power” political credentials any stronger than the Middle Eastern ice cream vendor in the little truck with the music. [Who is doing their part as well as any ICE or DEA SWAT TEAM*]

Anybody paying taxes, obeying the law, raising a family, serving in any volunteer work, or simply voting in all elections is doing everything JFK wanted.

Stopping the needless sacrifice of our military personnel against the Exxon-Mobil, and Chevron marketing plans is another part of that service.

Working for Peace is a civilized goal.

Threatening the Peace is wicked and deserves severe and immediate economic retaliation. Money sanctions are preferred over arms because male leaders have always regarded financial wealth as more valuable than their human warriors.

472 JWB July 31, 2014 at 7:10 PM

@ et-al #460 I know what an audacity for Obama to say that he will continue to do what he thinks is right. To me it sounds like he pretty much said “I’m the decider, and I decide what is best.” And that does sound like Hugo, Fidel or Kim Jong.

Ooops wait a minute I must have mixed something up. That was the previous president who said that he decides what is best. So seriously when GWB made that statement did you also feel that he sounded like Hugo, Fidel or Kim Jong? Or is it only this time around because some loudmouth right wing radio or TV folks tell you to feel that way? Just curious?

473 et-al July 31, 2014 at 7:11 PM

Blinky Pelosi will say anything to keep those sweet millions flowing into the hubby’s bank account, courtesy of the Criminal in Chief.
Just one more left wing liar fooling the ignorant voters.

474 et-al July 31, 2014 at 7:16 PM

JWB 474 –
Thanks for the walk down memory lane but BUSH AIN’T THE FN PRESIDENT. It’s 2014, I suspect it’s a real strain but try to keep up.
BTW, stoooopid, I didn’t vote for Bush.

475 Yhe Phantom July 31, 2014 at 7:17 PM

“He was asking for more than just lip service.”?

– Anybody paying taxes, obeying the law, raising a family, serving in any volunteer work, or simply voting in all elections is doing everything JFK wanted.

This is not lip service…actually I think Dennis believes everyone should die for their country but in his case something went wrong.

Can we have a Redux of Vietnam where he winds up in a combat zone?

476 Rollo Tomasi July 31, 2014 at 7:18 PM

“Nobody, not even O’Rielly, spins someone else’s joke.”

Your credibility is so far gone you’re somewhat amusing now. Just barely though.

477 Dennis July 31, 2014 at 7:18 PM

@JWB what’s wrong? You don’t want to admit being a parasite? Afraid that your opinions and judgment will be ignored? Why is it so difficult for you to declare your position in society?

478 Yhe Phantom July 31, 2014 at 7:19 PM

I don’t like people making light of military service or civilian responsibility.

Spc4 Dennis does both when he can’t find inflammatory content on the web…just making purple smoke…for easy postings.

479 et-al July 31, 2014 at 7:26 PM

Thinking it has some credibility here phantom-chicken-hawk butts in. Shouldn’t you be heading up another NAMBLA meeting, it’s almost sundown.

480 Fred P. July 31, 2014 at 7:27 PM

@furian #452….

You state “Jesus f*cking Christ wingies, you really are that stoopid, aren’t you?”

Ya know you really have some anger issues. You quote Jesus, talk about going to church on Sunday (and Wedneday), then turn right around and start namecalling and swearing at those with whom you disagree.

I don’t give a damn whether you agree with me or not…..but your posts indicate some serious mental issues. You’re never going to be taken seriously ….not that you’re hoping to.

You might want to get off the computer before you hurt yourself.

As far as I’m concerned, the mayor ought to look at banning you from this site, given your reactionary and inflammatory remarks,

And as tiny dots said, it looks like you’re going to tip over any time. You might want to call Concord PD and ask for a self commitment (5150).

481 . July 31, 2014 at 7:28 PM
482 ...... July 31, 2014 at 7:30 PM

Uh oh, looks like furian’s starting to tip over. Listening for the sirens now as he goes postal.

Better take your meds before you’re cuffed and stuffed.

On second thought it’ll be much more entertaining to see the video when you’re tasered. Of course, flopping around like a fish out of water is nothing new for you…..

483 JWB July 31, 2014 at 7:32 PM

@ et-al why do you think I said GWB is the current president? I simply asked you question whether you felt the same back in 2006 when GWB made his statement as you seem to feel now about Obama?

@ Dennis Sorry I hit your nerve … but you should be happy you can decide yourself.

484 john-john Strikes Again July 31, 2014 at 7:59 PM

“John Kerry is upset by heavy criticism from Israelis — left, right and center — of his recent cease-fire diplomacy. But that’s only half the story. More significant is the consternation of America’s Arab partners, starting with the president of the Palestinian Authority. Mahmoud Abbas was stunned that Kerry would fly off to Paris to negotiate with Hamas allies Qatar and Turkey in talks that excluded the PA and Egypt.

The talks also undermined Egypt’s cease-fire proposal, which Israel had accepted and Hamas rejected (and would have prevented the vast majority of the casualties on both sides). “Kerry tried through his latest plan to destroy the Egyptian bid,” charged a senior Palestinian official quoted in the Arab daily Asharq Al-Awsat — a peace plan that the PA itself had supported.
It gets worse. Kerry did not just trample an Egyptian initiative. It was backed by the entire Arab League and specifically praised by Saudi Arabia.”

Bright side, with Kerry, Obama actually doesn’t look so bad.

485 et-al July 31, 2014 at 8:05 PM

I don’t. Maybe you drifted off there again.
Sorry, I don’t seem to have a copy of quotes by former politicians. It’s just super to have you to share yours with us though.
Your superior knowledge empowers us all.

486 Yhe Phantom July 31, 2014 at 8:07 PM

“Obviously these people have a single objective; they want everyone off the site.

Task trolls mean to censor the opposition by blindly dismissing their information, intimidating them with public insults and assaults for their contribution, and simply distracting everyone from a good argument with their vicious conflict, hate, sexual innuendoes, and anger.

Knowing that unprovoked, vicious, drunken anger is upsetting to good people, they mean to display vitriolic rage, better to drive well-mannered, polite, good people away from the site. This is their only way to curb “free speech”.

They will invoke hate speech against minorities as a way to drive righteous and just people away from the site, trying to create the impression that racism is rampant on the site, better to prevent the good essays from being read.

When I worked in the jails, we called such people “well defended”.
All these techniques have been experienced by abused wives, and are familiar methods of manipulators and criminals.

Here, they are the tools of ignorant Conservative spokespersons.

487 Yhe Phantom July 31, 2014 at 8:11 PM

“As far as I’m concerned, the mayor ought to look at banning you from this site, given your reactionary and inflammatory remarks,”

See…no freedom of speech for Fred P.

489 shadowblade July 31, 2014 at 8:32 PM

“Soooooo … PhanDumbAnddumber, furian, ShallowBrain, JWB …. which of those are you? Patriot or Parasite?”

Well…you already know I served in the military. Want to see my discharge papers? Oh, that’s right…you’re too much of a coward to leave the comfort of your keyboard.

We already know you didn’t serve in the military, and are leeching off the system…so that makes you a parasite.

490 Once Again July 31, 2014 at 8:46 PM

are we not fortunate that cloning humans is illegal?

491 @Fred P July 31, 2014 at 9:15 PM

I find Dennis statements inflamatory, can you talk to the mayor about him also. An I’m sure there are others. We can ban until there is no one to post but anon. What are you afraid of? The foundation oof your point of view destroyed?

492 furian July 31, 2014 at 9:22 PM

Whatever happened to the boycott?

Claycord can ban me anytime they feel necessary. I won’t cry.

There is a life outside of the internet!

Come on wingies, show me gods love through your words and your actions!

Didn’t think so.

493 furian July 31, 2014 at 9:24 PM

Instead of crying about being flamed, why don’t you define what you deem acceptable for someone to do for their country?

Don’t want to do that?

494 furian July 31, 2014 at 9:26 PM

Would you rather I say Jesus H. Christ?

Doesn’t matter to me!

495 Dennis July 31, 2014 at 9:40 PM

@#4 so you admit that you are phandumbanddumber? You were both carpenters with .50 Cal MGs?

496 Yhe Phantom July 31, 2014 at 9:51 PM

Not me, Him.

Jesus (H)ussein Christ

Yes, so fine…just like wine.

497 Yhe Phantom July 31, 2014 at 9:57 PM

And why didn’t any of you answer the questions, you Delta Force wannabes?

Other questions for the “Republican Paramilitary Militia Guard”

1. Do you know why an old pavement jackhammer sounds just like an M60?
2. What does a M60 fire team have in common with an infantry officer?
3. Why do you change barrels? [Dennis answered this one].
4. And who does this in the middle of a firefight?
5. Why does a M2 gunner always have small change?
6. What is the assistant gunner’s most important tool?

No answer, no combat service,

498 Yhe Phantom July 31, 2014 at 9:58 PM

Tea Party Militiamen battle cry!

“Women to the front!”

499 Dennis July 31, 2014 at 10:01 PM

@#493 “I find Dennis statements inflamatory, can you talk to the mayor about him also.”

Really? You can’t even find a name to post under!

What statements have I made that anyone *EXCEPT* JWB / furian / ShalowBrain / PhanDumbAndDumber would find “inflammatory”?

Oh wait. You’re a fake clone of theirs, trying to boost the “me too” count, right?

500 Dennis July 31, 2014 at 10:03 PM

my post at #497 should have read:

@Shallowbrain #491

“you already know I served in the military”

so you admit that you are phandumbanddumber? Or were you were both carpenters with .50 Cal MGs?

501 Dennis July 31, 2014 at 10:06 PM

@furian why ask me to define what JFK meant? I think we’re all pretty clear on that. Now how about you telling us what you’ve “done for your country” – if anything.

502 Dennis July 31, 2014 at 10:10 PM

@JWB “Dennis Sorry I hit your nerve … but you should be happy you can decide yourself.”

You didn’t hit a nerve … you just piss me off with your attempts at evading the truth.

If *I* say you’re a lowlife maggot leech parasite that has done nothing for your country, you can just claim I’m “making stuff up”.

If *you* say you’re a lowlife maggot leech parasite that has done nothing for your country, that’s a *confession* that you can’t squirm out of.

See the difference?

So YOU tell US what you have done for your country … if you can.

503 shadowblade July 31, 2014 at 10:12 PM

“so you admit that you are phandumbanddumber? You were both carpenters with .50 Cal MGs?”

How did you draw that conclusion, Keyboard Commando?

504 furian July 31, 2014 at 10:35 PM

Still don’t get what you mean Dennis.

Waiting for you to explain what service to country means to you.

505 Yhe Phantom July 31, 2014 at 10:40 PM

506 Dennis, Dennis July 31, 2014 at 11:39 PM

During a floor speech on Wednesday night, Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee voiced her opposition to the House Republican lawsuit against obama and said that Democrats had never moved to impeach former President George W. Bush when he was in office.

“We did not seek an impeachment of President Bush, because as an executive, he had his authority. obama has the authority.”

It’s an odd thing for Jackson Lee to say, because it was just six years ago that she helped lead a movement to impeach Bush by co-sponsoring a bill accusing him of high crimes and misdemeanors.

Liar, stupid or incompetent? All three!

Typical Democrat memory.

509 JWB August 1, 2014 at 6:55 AM

Oh old poor old man Dennis has his panties in a twist.

Let’s see….

“So YOU tell US what you have done for your country”

Who are the “US”? I must have totally missed it when they elected you King of the Claycord idiots….

510 furian August 1, 2014 at 8:32 AM

As he runs for reelection, Brownback is finding that what he once called a “real-live experiment” in red-state governance is struggling to produce the benefits he had promised, spurring an increasingly competitive gubernatorial race against state House Minority Leader Paul Davis (D). His troubles also provide a case study of what can happen when single-party control — now the norm in most states — combines with the sharp rightward shift of the Republican Party.

After his election, Brownback, who was a U.S. senator for 14 years and a 2008 presidential candidate, quickly moved to consolidate conservative power in the state by successfully challenging more moderate Republicans. Advised by Arthur Laffer, the father of supply-side economics, and supported by special interest groups backed by conservative billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, he pushed through legislation that cut taxes and spending, eliminated state jobs and denied far more applications for welfare assistance — not to mention that he tightened abortion regulations and loosened gun rules.

Brownback promised that the efforts would drive economic growth, create jobs and stabilize the Kansas budget. But the state is reporting a more than $300 million revenue shortfall. The poverty rate increased. The state’s economy expanded 2.3 percent in inflation-adjusted terms over the past two years, half the rate of its four neighbors. And Kansas’s credit rating has been downgraded.

Tea Party governance at it’s finest!

511 JWB August 1, 2014 at 9:05 AM

@ et-al #510

Not defending any statements made by Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, which at least without context sound pretty stupid to me. I’m only wondering about your own memory since let me quote from less than 24 hours ago:

“Thanks for the walk down memory lane but BUSH AIN’T THE FN PRESIDENT. It’s 2014, I suspect it’s a real strain but try to keep up.”

512 Terry Kremin August 1, 2014 at 11:28 AM

Any of you ever checked out A group trying to pass the American Anti-corruption Act?

Has some interesting stuff to discuss.

This is also the same group that is doing the Honest Gil campaign that has caught tons of national attention.

They are pushing not just for federal, but to get it at city, county, and state levels.

Think it can work at those levels? think it needs to be added at those levels?

513 Sheila Jackson Lee August 1, 2014 at 11:45 AM

Is cool because she represents diversity. Also dumb.

514 Elwood August 1, 2014 at 1:51 PM

@ et-al #510

Sheila Jackson Lee is a notorious nincompoop. Stories of her stupidity are legend.

She is the Barbara Boxer of the House.

515 Elwood August 1, 2014 at 1:54 PM

To paraphrase Will Rogers: “The good Lord must have loved stupid people ’cause he made so many of them.”

And they vote dimmiecrat.

Jettison the whole rebooblican party, along with elwood and the rest of the idiots in the terrarium, into a waste management plant and bring in a new crew that will be willing to actually work for the citizens of this country.

” President Obama defended Secretary of State John Kerry’s widely criticized failures to work out a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.

“When I see John Kerry going out there, trying to broker a cease-fire, we should all be supportin’ him,” Obama said. “It should not be a bunch of complaints and second-guessing… nitpicking before he’s had a chance to complete his efforts.” ”

Were those comments directed at republicans, democrats or Israel and Hamas ?

” “More often than not, as a consequence of our involvement, we get better outcomes – not perfect, not immediate outcomes, but we get better outcomes,” he said. “That’s going to be true with respect to the Middle East, with respect to Ukraine; that’s going to be certainly true with respect to Iraq.” ”

Notice he made NO mention of his Mission Accomplished in Libya.

Perhaps Mr. President, you should have appointed an experienced and competent person to the job and there might be some positive results.
