The Water Cooler – The Most Dangerous Spot in the World

July 22, 2014 12:00 pm · 81 comments

The “Water Cooler” is a feature on where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it!

The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon!

Today’s question:

What is one part of the World (outside of the U.S.) you would never visit because of the possible danger to your life?

Talk about it….

That's Easy July 22, 2014 at 12:03 PM

But not to worry, bad guys are coming here.

Any place that has sharia law in effect. Am not a Muslim and am therefore an infidel. Most religions focus on changing oneself to improve the world. Islam looks to change others (especially non-Muslims) to improve the world.

Let me get my dartboard out and I’ll tell you in a minute. (Jeopardy music playing in back ground)… Dart says Nigeria.

Patty July 22, 2014 at 12:09 PM

Any country in the Middle East

TJ Jones July 22, 2014 at 12:10 PM

Other places.. Nigeria, Muslim areas of the Philippine Islands, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon, Iran, Afghanistan, Turdistan, Jackistan, and Obamastan.

Nymous July 22, 2014 at 12:14 PM

I have two sets of California friends who live in the Middle East and they both send their kids to American style schools there. I’d love to visit both of them but my husband thinks that my idea of a ferry from Qatar to Kuwait on the Persian Gulf might not be the best plan. It looks doable though!

Anyway, I would have second thoughts before visiting Somalia.

I would not go to Africa or any middle eastern country.

It seems like most foreign countries hate us these days. I don’t feel that it is safe to leave our country anymore.

Concordejet July 22, 2014 at 12:54 PM

@That’s Easy
True, they all come here illegally outside of Mexico.

Remind me not to go to your Husband’s Restaurant if he plan to open up a restaurant. lol

@TJ Jones
WOW you got a sourcesful listing of world’s worst spot in the world to avoid.

Yes, Definitively Stockton!!!!!!!!!

@ I’m The Urban Spaceman
LOL are you afraid of girls from Venus?

Do not forget to add North Korea, Jamacia, Columbia, Papa New Gami Island Oh and one more not to forget is the Mayor’s office is the most dangerous spot in the world lol

@Broke on coloney July 22, 2014 at 12:56 PM

actually that describes Christians as well. We’re saved and you are not. We are going to Heaven and you are not. But we will talk you into being saved.

iluvfriedchicken July 22, 2014 at 12:57 PM

Antarctica cuz I’d freeze to death with no hope of rescue.

anywhere July 22, 2014 at 12:58 PM

No government, no law.

All of you who say Mexico ought to travel and read a little more. If you stay away from the border Mexico is a great place to travel.

Steve July 22, 2014 at 1:16 PM

Way too many places to list, unfortunately. Obviously many parts of the Middle East, Africa and South America, but also parts of Eastern Europe, and many cities in our own country! Canada seems to be the only place that comes to mind where I don’t immediately think of some dangerous spots

Babylon July 22, 2014 at 1:20 PM

Mosquitoes love me, so any place where there is chloroquine or mefloquine-resistant malaria. I think that eliminates most of Southeast Asia and Africa as travel destinations for me.

cornfed July 22, 2014 at 1:38 PM

@19 I rather be talked into being saved than killed into being saved.

Stop. Before you mention the crusades, we’re talking about this millenium.

I think I would steer clear of Uranus

@al (see what I did there?)

I urge you to watch Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown. Season 1 and 2 in Netflix.
A fantastic show, not so much food driven as his previous one (No Reservations) more focus is actually given to the people and their daily lives. The Palestine episode is very good.
Personally though I am not too afraid to go places. Generally speaking, if you don’t go looking for trouble then trouble won’t find you. Of course there are always exceptions, I just haven’t encountered those yet.

Mexico. The last time I went there , I was mugged.

bunny July 22, 2014 at 1:57 PM

Yeah, Christians prosletize but they don’t kill, anymore. We did during the inquisition but we’re passed that now. The Islamists, by this I mean extremists, will kill anyone who does not see it their way right now. Even their own people. It will probably get worse. How about those nice people sending rockets into Israel from civilian areas? Not the way to make progress. There should be two countries there. The Native Irish have to tolerate the people the English sent to steal their land. There have always been jews in Palestine. We all have to live together eventually.

MadMom July 22, 2014 at 3:47 PM

Lots of danger out there but I’ll say North Korea. There’s a whole lot of crazy going on.

Russ July 22, 2014 at 4:00 PM

Tokyo. Godzilla rolls through there about every 2-3 years and absolutely lays waste to the place.

Don P - N. Concord July 22, 2014 at 4:01 PM

Any bathroom i’m leaving is very dangerous – stay out for your own good.

Sinn Feiner July 22, 2014 at 4:06 PM

Mexico! The U.S. State Dept. is telling Americans to only stay in the resort areas if traveling to Mexico. If that’s the case, then why even travel there in the first place?

Led July 22, 2014 at 4:14 PM

Damascus, for one. Or just about anywhere in sub-Saharan Africa, but particularly the C.A.R. or the Congo.

Dr. Jellyfinger® July 23, 2014 at 9:24 AM

@ Marianne, Yes.

No donkeys in the bar at Las Brisas…. lots of chickens running around the place. They even had a big fenced off square with a numbered grid where they play chicken poop Bingo. Fun! but the locals would cut your throat for a nickel.

Marianne July 23, 2014 at 10:54 AM

Now you’re teasing Dr. Jellyfinger. 🙂

Walnut Creek Resident July 23, 2014 at 8:23 PM

Any place can be dangerous these days. The most dangerous spot is outside the potato patch with a hamburger tied around my waist!!

Dr. Jellyfinger® July 23, 2014 at 11:30 PM

@ Marianne – No, really… they’d kill you.

Anon July 26, 2014 at 3:30 PM

@concordejet…. Where is Papa New Gami Island? Is that close to Paupa New Guinea by any chance? LOL
