mcdonalds

McDonald’s on Monument Blvd. in Concord has been demolished, but don’t worry, another one is being built in its place.

McDonald’s completely destroyed their restaurant, which has been there since 1971, and in a couple of months, a brand new 5,000 square-foot McDonald’s will be open for business at the same location.

They did the same thing at the Clayton Road location two years ago.

2 Yum July 18, 2014 at 3:16 PM

Twoallbeefpattiesspecialsaucelettucecheesetomatoeonionsonasesameseedbun! :)

3 Role Models July 18, 2014 at 3:21 PM

They should demolish Monument Blvd, Virgina Lane, and Mi Casa court.
Much better start.

4 kax July 18, 2014 at 3:34 PM

…and ready to sell us more poisonous ” food”…..yummy

5 Dorothy July 18, 2014 at 3:45 PM

When I first saw the headline at the top of the screen with the picture just below I thought: One down and a few million more to go. Then I read the article and saw that I was wrong.

6 ARMYDADCA July 18, 2014 at 4:03 PM

Speaking of closed businesses (loosely). Does anyone know what happened to the 7-11 on Farm Bureau & Willow Pass? Besides that its closed.

7 just a concordian July 18, 2014 at 4:03 PM

@kax

No one is forcing YOU to buy it.

8 That's All Folks! July 18, 2014 at 4:03 PM

And the bad news is, they’re going to rebuild.

9 Good Start July 18, 2014 at 4:20 PM

Now demolish the rest of Monument Blvd.

10 Smart,Goodlooking&Debonaire July 18, 2014 at 4:21 PM

can we observe a few moments of silence? fond memories go with this demolition…

11 Old Gringo July 18, 2014 at 4:25 PM

Yay for McDonalds way better than Carls jr.
or Burger King !

12 Jtkatec July 18, 2014 at 4:26 PM

Yum has that ditty down

13 concordkiwi July 18, 2014 at 4:33 PM

@ Armydadca

The 7-11 closing was referenced earlier when the bomb squad was called to the street. Apparently the lease is up.

14 Food Cop July 18, 2014 at 4:34 PM

Maybe the kids on Monument Blvd will lose some weight this summer as they trek down the block to Wendy’s.

I wonder if they’re gonna put in some benches for the day labored that block the driveway?

15 Food Cop July 18, 2014 at 4:46 PM

Better yet, they should use Monument Blvd workers to rebuild the McDonalds.

16 ClayDen July 18, 2014 at 4:46 PM

And it’s taking how long to REMODEL the Concord DMV??????????????

17 ClayDen July 18, 2014 at 4:49 PM

Is it going to include a bullet-proof drive through?

Lane 1 for English; lane 2 for Spanish?

18 anon July 18, 2014 at 5:47 PM

Time is money except at DMV.

19 Julio July 18, 2014 at 6:27 PM

They did the same thing in Antioch a couple of years ago. It was the fastest construction job I have ever seen in my 70 years. Really updated it nicely inside. Ours was a pit just like that one on Monument was.

They seem like they are refusing service to some people now too. I don’t remember seeing it done a few years back.

20 TinFoiler July 18, 2014 at 6:32 PM

Must be nice, instead of keeping up with the cleanliness and housekeeping – Just demolish and Build new.
Of course they get Tax write-offs as one of the benefits of supplying GMO laden filth to the masses…

21 SeeK July 18, 2014 at 7:08 PM

@ Yum.

You were close, should be:
Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun. (Pickles, no tomatoes)

22 Ex-employe July 18, 2014 at 7:39 PM

They took it down because it was infested with roches nd mice it was no match to all the exterminators that would come by to fumigate

23 Brutalball July 18, 2014 at 7:49 PM

Thank Jebus they’re not shutting it down. I work right off of Shadelnds and Oak Grove and it’s the fastest/closest McDonald’s I can get to on a 30 min lunch.

lol @ Foodcop and Clayden. You must be brothers

24 Food Cop July 18, 2014 at 8:00 PM

@brutalball – alas, Clayden is not my brother or hermano as they say on Monument Blvd.

25 AldrigeFamily July 18, 2014 at 8:16 PM

That’s great. I think the new model looks good, the one on clayton road looks much better

26 dmama July 18, 2014 at 9:19 PM

That McDonalds was NASTY! I had my car in the shop a couple of blocks away and had walked my 4 year old down there to get a drink and use the bathroom and one of the employees was in the ladies room smoking pot…glad to see it gone and hopefully the new one will be a better atmosphere

27 The Realist July 18, 2014 at 9:22 PM

I’ve lived on the nice side of Concord and the not bad side of Concord, I’ve seen rat and roaches infesting the sidewalks on my walks, runs, and bikes. This particular “neighborhood” is actually renowned for its, among over pestilent transient populations, bedbug infestations.
Life pro tip: NEVER eat at a restraunt on Monument blvd.

28 Mcd's July 18, 2014 at 9:39 PM

The salads are great especially during lunch time. I can’t wait for the reopening.

29 EliteGuy July 18, 2014 at 10:19 PM

mcdonalds is poverty food

30 It's me July 18, 2014 at 10:56 PM

Disgusting I was exited just like @dorothy but than I noticed I was wrong! People if you want to eat healthier don’t buy the “salad” it’s mcdonalds everything there is bad! Want to eat healthier go to wholefoods and stuck up they have freshly made salads for under $10.99☺️☺️ Just think about it way healthier and almost the same price! Say no to Monsanto

31 huey9k July 19, 2014 at 12:56 AM

I was surprised to see that McD’s gone.

And the 1800 cafe on monument seems clean, with decent food. Give them a try.

And no.29, instead of buying a salad for under 11bucks, try buying the veggies and making multiple salads.

32 teri July 19, 2014 at 2:18 AM

Had my first McD burger there. I think it was ten cents.

33 Jovan Lopez July 19, 2014 at 2:53 AM

Oh goodie, I guess you can’t stop big business, at least the new building will look better I hope. I dig their $1 cite cream cones.

One thing they should demolish is that food max! Horrible service and horrible people. I have to drive a few miles to the fresh and easy, wish we had one here in monument :/ maybe I should just move to wanut creek…..

34 Jabba the Hut July 19, 2014 at 6:33 AM

I eat there 19 times a week. I shall hire some day laborers, make them carry me across Monument. I will set up council at Taco Bell. To all my minions meet me there. ( I have Han Solo in a temporary location that will support life forms frozen in carbonite). We will put him back on display after my new lair is finished.

35 KenInConcord July 19, 2014 at 7:31 AM

$4 for a egg mc muffin. Are you kidding me!

And they are smaller then before. Sorry that was the only item I would even thing about eating at McD’s. But. No more,

36 Silva July 19, 2014 at 7:46 AM

It’s sad that this and other “foods” lacking in nutritioun and packed with sugar, fillers and chemicals we’ve been poisoning ourselves with have proliferated and are now eaten by unsuspecting people here and around the world on the other hand, the rendering looks just like the newer one on Clayton Road. It’ll be new and fresh and clean for a while, and the children will love the large play area.

37 #29 July 19, 2014 at 10:22 AM

It’s not poverty food, it’s lazy food. McDonald’s isn’t even that cheap anymore. You could buy real groceries and make yourself a decent meal for the money you would spend there.

38 Clayton Squirrel July 19, 2014 at 10:59 AM

My 16 1/2 year old dog can have whatever she wants at this point in her life. The best dog foods in the world have lost their appeal. Yesterday my daughter brought her home a plain McDonald’s cheeseburger. She loved it!

39 Silva July 19, 2014 at 11:43 AM

Clayton Squirrel, you just keep on keeping her happy. I should have tried that with my old pup.

40 funny man July 19, 2014 at 1:19 PM

43 JumboJack July 19, 2014 at 9:58 PM

I ate there the day it opened May 1972! Concord was cool then, Monument was not bad 42 years ago! That place was filthy last time i dined there in 1999!

44 Mr.Wonderful July 19, 2014 at 10:25 PM

Time to put in another 7-11 there.

45 EliteGuy July 19, 2014 at 10:47 PM

#37, i dont shop at foodmaxx like you though.

46 happy July 19, 2014 at 10:50 PM

Mc donalds, must be gone forever. I never take my kids to eat a happy horrible meal.

47 Silva July 20, 2014 at 7:34 AM

#41, It must be very nice! Some of us have to try a LOT harder to get nutritious food and supplies than to simply go to down Whole Foods. Do you not have a clue, or are you just happy to gloat about it?

48 Silva July 20, 2014 at 8:32 AM

perhaps it was a joke!

49 Aspirin July 20, 2014 at 9:33 AM

I wish they would demolish that hideous monstrosity McDonalds on Clayton Road. Which City planner OK’d that eyesore?

50 Aspirin July 20, 2014 at 9:35 AM

Re: #41, please add the brands and sizes of all of the items listed. Also, a map of the store locations of the items would be appreciated. thank you.

51 Casandra July 20, 2014 at 7:24 PM

@its me I love wholefoods it’s really inexpensive and it’s quality food I usually spend from $900 to $1500 and the food lasted for like two weeks I used to shop at traderjoes but I noticed not everything was organic so I decided to shop at wholefoods the water bottles are a steal! @Silvia it’s for a better health and it’s not expensive at all!

52 Casandra July 20, 2014 at 7:29 PM

@ it’s me yea I started shopping there cuz everything is organic not like trader joes and it’s really inexpensive the water bottles are a steal! @silvia we’ll most people can afford shopping there and why shop at those cheap ugly stores when there feeding you gmo food?

53 Julio July 20, 2014 at 8:00 PM

It’s me@ . Most people cannot afford to shop at Whole Foods. Food is a much better price just about everywhere else. However, I love their pizza at 2 for $5 it is a wonderful delicious treat.

54 Silva July 20, 2014 at 8:52 PM

Okay, sure thing Casandra. I bet.

55 Like July 20, 2014 at 9:11 PM

56 Casandra July 21, 2014 at 1:17 AM

@silvia have you been to wholefoods?

57 Silva July 21, 2014 at 8:24 AM

@Casandria, Yes.

58 Antler July 21, 2014 at 9:14 AM

….. been boycotting MacDonald’s ever since they stopped preparing huge Idaho potatoes on site….the peeling and cutting, everything. And they fried the potatoes in real lard.

Whenever a new piano student would begin tuition payments, I would treat the children to a MacDonald’s supper. They ordered whatever burger topping combo they wanted, and a small milkshake came with it….large family-sized order of fries. We’d bring it home, have a picnic in the back yard, and then play hopscotch, basketball, badminton, or tag. At that time in our lives, having just bought a new home (where we still live), that was a BIG night out!

Those financial circumstances still exist for many families, and eating junk food, if only done RARELY, constitutes a special treat for them. Please do not indulge in health harassment against EVERYONE just because some people over-indulge on fast foods so often that they are obese!

59 Silva July 21, 2014 at 9:58 AM

I won’t eat it. I can”t. I have to be really careful what goes in these days. If my 4 year old grandson is in for a treat however, that’s a sure way to please him. I sit and watch and enjoy his delight in a few nuggets, french fries with ketchup, milk and the sometimes entertaining toy. There can be nice kids in the play space, or there can be an unruly little mob who’s “parent” is playing whatever they do at the game screen section, completely unaware of other childrens screams as their sociopathic spawn brutalize them. If that happens we leave and the 4 year old is still satisfied. At a point in history I’m sure it really was actually food.
