PIC: Bad Parker! County Vehicle in Two Spots at 7-Eleven in Pleasant Hill

July 17, 2014 10:30 am · 83 comments

Thanks to the anonymous Claycordian who sent this picture of what appears to be a Contra Costa County employee parking in two spots, one of which is a handicap spot at the 7-Eleven store on Golf Club Rd. in Pleasant Hill.

The person who sent the photo said “it was a lady driver with a male passenger and the male went into the store”.

et-al July 17, 2014 at 10:42 AM

Where’s a Denver Boot when you need one.

Reality Slap July 17, 2014 at 10:44 AM

My experience with County cars is when they zip past me on the freeway exceeding the speed limit.

Nuttsie the Nutter July 17, 2014 at 10:45 AM

I spoke with him and he has a deeply held religious objection to parking in only one spot.

What an A**hole!

Don’t forget- our tax dollars allow this kind of arrogant unchecked entitlement

Mom143 July 17, 2014 at 10:51 AM

Whoever took that picture should take a picture of the license plate and send it in to the County. #@$% move!

Daisy July 17, 2014 at 10:55 AM

Should of taken a picture of the license plate and post it.

Scarface July 17, 2014 at 10:57 AM

Wow, entitled only begins to describe this behavior. Just because we pay his/her salary, healthcare and retirement does not give the right to park like a Chicago government worker.

livininconcord July 17, 2014 at 10:58 AM

And we PAY this idiot?????

Incognito July 17, 2014 at 10:59 AM

Obviously huge sense of entitlement issues being displayed here.

Should be getting a big fat ticket for parking in the handicap spot.

anon July 17, 2014 at 11:03 AM

what time of day is this? looks like almost everyone is still in bed.

AWESOME DAD July 17, 2014 at 11:04 AM

Homer Simpson wanted for questioning…

Me July 17, 2014 at 11:10 AM

Before you judge, make sure you know the details.. Was it before hours and is it a health inspector etc??? 4th of July and the store was closed….? Other possibilities? One photo cannot show the whole story sometimes.. I guess I just always like to not assume too much before I have all the facts.. But it does look bad.

unknown July 17, 2014 at 11:13 AM

The “Diver” should be giving the 250 dollar fine, but the city will find a way out.

WCmom July 17, 2014 at 11:14 AM

But he was only gonna be there a minute…. (!)

Mike "troll" Dame July 17, 2014 at 11:14 AM

no one else was in the parking lot who cares stupid busybodies

HeresJohnny July 17, 2014 at 11:20 AM

It’s ok he’s owns the city

BD July 17, 2014 at 11:40 AM

Regarding comments about being paid, cause none of us has ever gone to 7-11 or any other establishment while on break.. if your office is car yeah.. you may need to stop. Not speaking to the choice of parking areas but really the comments about us “paying” them to stop someplace is petty. As #13 ME said, we have no idea what the circumstances were to be making such rude comments.

EliteGuy July 17, 2014 at 12:04 PM

BD #18 trying to do damage control for city lifer LOL.

I'm Your Huckleberry July 17, 2014 at 12:04 PM

Yes, no one should judge or make rude comments before knowing all the facts… For all we know, someone in the car, perhaps the driver or a passenger had a major case of diarrhea and had to get to the nearest toilet pronto. Parking correctly or abiding my handicap laws were secondary.

Nuttsie the Nutter July 17, 2014 at 12:12 PM

However, to “Me” and “Mike troll Dame”…7-11 ‘s have no hours. They never close. And many times I have driven into a parking lot and someone was in the handicap spot for “just a minute”. Their minute meant I could not park there.

“Just a minute” does not put you above the law. And I am sure you think I should tough it and walk a little farther, but you have no clue how much the shrapnel and bullet fragments hurt when I walk.

Fumunda July 17, 2014 at 12:13 PM

I am sorry I parked like that. I am an entitled govt worker that is over paid , under worked and untouchable . Please forgive me I needed to feed my overweight self with microwave burritos and a blueberry squishy.

sf July 17, 2014 at 12:16 PM

No one should be parking like this, city worker or not. Even if there is no one in the parking lot at the time someone could pull in at any second and need the handicap space.

123 July 17, 2014 at 12:16 PM

7-11 doesnt close. They cant park for $hit. Name and shame people, get the license plate.

AnotherAnon-----Whatever the circumstances, handicapped is ONLY for handicapped July 17, 2014 at 12:16 PM

it just may be possible the driver, who is still in the car, might be a handicapped person. Now, having said that, if not handicapped, there is NO excuse for taking a handicapped parking spot. If there are twenty unoccupied handicapped spots, an able bodied person is required, and should, park elsewhere. No ifs, ands or buts.

Mister Wister July 17, 2014 at 12:16 PM

Oh my god, the humanity. (rolls eyes)

anonanonagain July 17, 2014 at 12:22 PM

People are so lazy these days!! Hopefully they find out who this dipstick is and either give them a written warning or fire their arse!!!! Blatant disregard by a county worker of the laws should be an automatic excuse for firing…..

commonsense July 17, 2014 at 12:22 PM

GT July 17, 2014 at 12:28 PM

@13 If it was 4th of July, why would there be a county vehicle driving around on duty on a holiday? And it’s 7-11, and the lights were on inside from the picture, so, yeah, it should have been open, even on the 4th. And what difference does it make if there was an inspection going on? That’s still not an excuse to park like that. If you put your thinking cap on, there are some assumptions that you CAN actually make. And if I’m wrong. Oh, well. This is a Claycord.com reader forum and not a criminal investigation. This is what makes it fun.

Taxpayer July 17, 2014 at 12:31 PM

Seems like there’s a double standard out there. Probably
using county vehicles for pleasure. Glad regular citizens
are taking videos of these incidents for the public to see.
That’s where our tax paying dollars are paying people like that who
don’t follow the rules. Next time take a picture of the license plate.

ryan July 17, 2014 at 12:36 PM

WASTE OF TIME. Lets get back to important topics!!!!!

Smart,Goodlooking&Debonaire July 17, 2014 at 12:38 PM

expected behavior when the progressives are in charge. No accountability, no respect for the taxpayers, no class whatsoever.

anon July 17, 2014 at 12:51 PM

Sorry I had to use the Bathroom really bad!!!

Dorothy July 17, 2014 at 1:07 PM

Parking in Pleasant Hill is hard enough. Even though there were no other cars there, the car is still illegally parked. Would it really have been that hard to park across two non-handicapped spots, also right in front of the door, on the other side of the handicapped space?

GoGo Gomez July 17, 2014 at 1:07 PM

Dee Da Dee!

Me July 17, 2014 at 1:11 PM

7-11’s don’t close??? Yes they do. For remodeling. For other reasons. No one else is in the lot? And it looks like daytime. So my guess is it was closed or something. Who knows. All I know is I hope a lot of people here are never on a jury. lol

Don P - N. Concord July 17, 2014 at 1:37 PM

You have to be at least somewhat mentally handicapped to work for the county, so I can’t really blame them for parking like that.

@ 22 July 17, 2014 at 1:46 PM

Too funny!!

contra costa mom July 17, 2014 at 2:02 PM

I took the picture it was around noon on Wednesday i was parked in the spot to the left i tried to get the plate number but she was trying to back up into my car to get away and i did not want my car hit so i backed out and got this picture before she drove off. I hope she learned a lesson from this and will not do this again

Concord Res July 17, 2014 at 2:05 PM

I am a local gov’t employee, and I would NEVER park like that. In fact for food/drinks stops I usually use my personal vehicle when I go out on my lunch break.

anon July 17, 2014 at 2:10 PM

They were in a hurry. They don’t care. To them image is nothing.

Killjoy July 17, 2014 at 2:18 PM

If 7/11’s never close, why do they have locks on the doors?

Anonymous July 17, 2014 at 2:35 PM

I know a county employee who drives a white Camry county car. It doesn’t have county logo on the door. Wonder why?

The Mamba July 17, 2014 at 2:48 PM

Probably came in from the other direction and had to try to circle turn to park, no one else is in the lot, so do we really care?

SF CityGirl July 17, 2014 at 2:52 PM

I love it when pics of county officials come out, doing bad things.

Zoey July 17, 2014 at 3:05 PM

She’s not “parked”. Parked means she left the car. She is “stopped”. That is why you see signs that say, “no parking” and “no stopping”. They are different things.

Should she have stopped in a normal spot, yeah she should have, but stop acting like its some breach of public trust. She pulled up to the store and waited for her passenger to get something.

If someone pulled up and wanted to use the spot, she could have easily moved. It looks to me that the lot is pretty empty, so it’s not like she is keeping anyone else from parking.

Chill out and thank god you are not in Gaza or were in a plane over the Ukraine today!!

. July 17, 2014 at 3:07 PM

County bureaucrats are “Special” wait about 12.7 seconds and they will tell you all about it.

#48, hey nimrod – I don’t care if she is witnessing the second coming – GET OUT OF THE HANDICAPPED SPOT!!!

FedUp nomorecorruptBOS July 17, 2014 at 4:52 PM

It irritates me that no one got the car number. I agree this is inappropriate. If you had the balls to take the picture, get the car number, call Fleet Services and report the vehicle so they’ll get written up.
I disagree with the BOS giving themselves 60%+ raises.
I disagree that county workers in the field are reported when they take a lunch break during the noon time hour at a drive-through and get written up.
Point your fingers at the lowest paid county workers in the nine counties of the bay area – then demand that they serve you like you’re at Nordy’s. County Workers pay taxes, too, and they pay >10% into retirement with no control where that’s invested, and healthnet and Kaiser cost over $1k employee share per month – most take County coverage for nearly $300/mo and can’t see a doctor because the doctors have left, the appointment unit runs out of appointment by 7:15 a.m. Yes, County Workers are stupid enough to work for the County – but there are fewer working there every day and they’re not being replaced. The CAO and BOS keep getting HUGE raises, have multiple offices, several staff people YOUR TAX DOLLARS are paying for – but that’s okay, now isn’t it.

Hillbilly July 17, 2014 at 5:05 PM

It’s a private parking lot and he or she can park in any manner which they chose, just as all of you can. There are almost no laws when it comes to parking on private property. So you can all quit your whining and go back to your lives.

Tiffany July 17, 2014 at 5:18 PM

Who cares?!? It looks like they were the only ones parked? Everyone needs to relax and stop being tattletales. Choose your battles. Way bigger fish to fry then a city worker parked in two parking spots. Aren’t kids dying of hunger? A war in Gaza? Big picture people, don’t sweat the small stuff and put your energy towards something progressive!

JJStuff July 17, 2014 at 5:30 PM

No, not really. When the people that are meant to be the example break the law, that causes backlashes in the community@Tiffany @Hillbilly double parking isn’t illegal, but parking in a handcap spot is, technically illegal. People thin that because it’s a private parking lot nothing applies. But that isn’t true. There are still ticket-able offenses.

When people start doing what’s right, just because people can see them, it’s a failure of society. People are supposed to be good for the sake of being good, not because they don’t want to get caught.

Bottomofthetotem July 17, 2014 at 5:31 PM

I work as one of the least paid county employees, with absolutely no benefits, so to start, any comments about my loyalties to my salary, are bull.
1. Absolutely none of you have any idea what working for the county is like, you’re probably also sitting on your couch at the moment not working and living off unemployment. How about that generalization?
2. Yea, this person fudged up, pretty bad, but we all make mistakes. It does not make it right. This person will get reprimanded for this as there are systems in place to track this kind of stuff. Happy?
3 Now it is time for my rant, shut up, get a job, and do something better with your live’s than troll the internet to give your two cents that no one gives a damn about.

@Reality Slap July 17, 2014 at 6:34 PM

You’ll like this. County car, sticker on the side and all Southbound Kirker Pass Rd. had tried to pull off on the shoulder by crossing over concrete roadside rain gutter. Problem was, rain gutter was deeper than tires were tall and ripped the bottom right out of that tofu tree huggin’ hybrid car.

About then, … became clear why human cloning is outlawed

FedUp nomorecorruptBOS July 17, 2014 at 6:37 PM

JJStuff – COUNTY EMPLOYEES ARE EXAMPLES?? People HATE County Employees – Contra Costa Times makes sure County union bargaining numbers are well-publicized (but not the >25% TAKEAWAYS over the last seven years), while the Board of Supervisors giving themselves annual raises (starting with the one >60%) is hidden! Many County Employees can’t afford Contra Costa Health Plan – take home wages are less than $1200 because of all of the “benefits” taken out, not to mention taxes (they don’t have any write-offs at their income level, it’s impossible to buy a house and rents have increased a ridiculous amount, even in east county). Yeah, I agree with Bottomofthetotem – The Haters need to get their Republican bums off the welfare dole and get jobs – I hear Walmart’s hiring.

Smart,Goodlooking&Debonaire July 17, 2014 at 7:00 PM

how much do you want to bet this useless government rat is a member of the Service Employees International Union?

Cat Wrangler July 17, 2014 at 7:28 PM

They must be afflicted with an integrity handicap.

Greg July 17, 2014 at 7:59 PM

This is the 7-11 right across from SunValley. She probably parked that way so her passenger wouldn’t have to dodge all the panhandlers that are usually pacing the front.

@ 62 July 17, 2014 at 9:46 PM

The best is yet to come as the BOS is slated to give themselves a 50% raise within the next 60 days……………….So their pay will be on par with other boards in the bay area. And this county will recruit no one of quality to fill the vacant positions due to the mass exit that occurred on 7/10 because Contra Costa has the worst pay and benefit packed in the bay area including all the cities. When engineers leave for the city of Vallejo you know it is bad.

county employee July 17, 2014 at 9:55 PM

I’m a county employee. All permanent employees, not temporary employees, get benefits. Honestly, there are a lot of County employees working admin jobs who do very little because there’s no work for them to do.

@ # 60 July 17, 2014 at 10:24 PM

Were you on the clock for the County when you yourself went online trolled a story on Claycord just to leave a negative comment about people complaining about you and your co-workers? Get off the internet and go do the job we pay you to do. If you dont like your job quit, there a ton of other people in line for your full benefits job. Sickening that you want people to feel sorry for you when you have a good job.

Laura Zah July 17, 2014 at 10:40 PM

But there’s plenty of us to pay ’em.

@ 22 Fumunda July 17, 2014 at 11:31 PM

What’s a blueberry squishy? Sounds tasty. I want one!

bunny July 18, 2014 at 12:07 AM

I drove many Phone company vehicles while working and I never parked like this. It’s wrong and It has the co. logo on it. It’s not a good idea to irritate the people we work for. Glad to be of service and have a good union job.

Cowellian July 18, 2014 at 7:06 AM

Handicap parking laws apply to County employees and can be enforced, even in a private parking lot.

It's unlikely the driver was handicapped July 18, 2014 at 7:43 AM

if they were, they would be on all kinds of disability payments being sucked out of our taxes.

@ # 68 July 18, 2014 at 7:51 AM

New employees do not have very good benefits………For starters health care co-pay is now thru the roof and new employees have NO retiree medical period, no splitting premiums nothing. Those hired after 1/1/11 have no health care once retired. And the pay in CCC is below any other agency in the bay area, including ALL of the cities. That is why only the dregs or out-of-state people are coming to work for CCC.
So shut the hell up as you don’t know squat

@ # 63 July 18, 2014 at 7:56 AM

SEI only has a small unit ic CCC……..majority of the employee are clerical which is AFSCME or general labor which is Local 1. More than likely this is an unrep manager as they pretty much do as they please, have no real hours and like #67 said pretty much do nothing. Can’t even load paper into a copy machine as that is “beneath them to do”
#67 – County Employee – you are either a long term or just stuck on stupid as look at the crap salary and benefit package for new hires that are not Managment-Unreps. It is bad.

puggy July 18, 2014 at 8:11 AM

why are we wasting time on this? she was in the car while he ran in…and didn’t leave it parked unattended. Secondly, there are tons of disabled spaces left for use. I would have done the same thing. Whom ever bothered to take this photo needs to join a club or get a hobby.

anon July 18, 2014 at 8:43 AM

“I would have done the same thing.”

I wish I was a Cop & could write you a $475 ticket – you have an additude

anon July 18, 2014 at 10:03 AM

I would have done the same thing too. Worry about something important ok?

gratt July 18, 2014 at 11:28 AM

P.K. and P.H. (county employees) are marshmellows

@66 July 18, 2014 at 2:36 PM

See that time stamp? 5:31, off the clock 31 minutes prior. Also of you could read, NO BENEFITS, I’m not really quite sure where you got full benefits from. I actually love my job, however the the pay, no benefits kinda suck. And if you really think about it. County employees pay about 20%-30% of their own paycheck, we pay taxes too.

Jtkatec @ 70 July 18, 2014 at 4:33 PM

You’re right, and I hate to admit it as it’s probably chock full of chemicals

Govt Employee Here July 18, 2014 at 10:56 PM

Whether they are off the clock or on the clock, they are in a Government car that is paid by tax payer dollars. Government cars paid by tax pay dollars should be used for tax payer services. I’m pretty sure they weren’t doing any inspections in a 7-11 at 5:30 in the evening. You return to work, clock out, then go scan the aisles of your local 7-11 on your own time. AND, learn how to drive and park a car or be prepared for ridicule!

Contra costa mom July 18, 2014 at 10:57 PM

Puggy, I took the picture I have a job it was my day off and I don’t care who this woman worked for she should NOT have pulled into a handicapped spot.

Silva July 19, 2014 at 7:53 AM

Well, she didn’t exibit much in the way of driving skill or observing normal social behavioral rules, but she’s entitled, right?
