A small fire was extinguished outside of a home on Kenston Dr., near Tiffin Dr. in Clayton just after midnight this morning.

The blaze was on the outside wall of the garage, and did not make entry into the home.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Not saying this is what happened at this house.

This story reminded me of something that happened about 8 years ago. Left house about 4:30 am for work. Got about 12 houses down and noticed an orange glow coming up on the left. Was a fire next to a garage. Stopped in middle of the street and laid on the horn until I saw lights coming on across the street. Then went and about pounded the poor guys front door down. Owner came out and we grabbed garden hoses, wet the wood on garage then the fire. Had it just about out by time Fire Dept got there.

Turned out ashtrays were emptied into kitchen trash and taken out to the garbage can at about 10:30 pm. Took until about 4:30 am to flare up. All that was left of the garbage can was a puddle of plastic. He ended up needing new bush, garbage can and part of a fence.

Came away from the experience learning two things, wait at least 24 hours before putting anything that was burning in the trash. An don’t leave your car in the middle of the street with the door open, because the Fire truck can’t get past.

The neighbors across the street (teenage boys) were up playing video games and heard “popping” noises, looked out the window and saw flames. They woke up their dad, and went across the street using the garden hose, and knocking on the door. A Clayton PD officer came up and finished it off with a fire extinguisher. Most of the neighborhood hung out in their PJs and talked while the fire department came.

I feel VERY LUCKY to be apart of this neighborhood, where we ARE neighbors and know each other and watch out for each other.
