Claycord – Talk About Whatever

whatever

Happy Friday to all the wonderful citizens in the City of Claycord.

This is a post with no subject, you can talk about whatever you want. If breaking news happens (such as an earthquake), or you hear about something newsworthy, feel free to post it here.

101 Connie Dobbs June 30, 2014 at 6:38 PM

#103 Mickey Mantle.

102 Silva June 30, 2014 at 6:38 PM

Norma Jean Baker.

103 Enfield303 June 30, 2014 at 6:53 PM

@Atticus

Looks like Norma Jean Baker.

104 Silva June 30, 2014 at 6:55 PM

I tried.

105 Dr. Jellyfinger® June 30, 2014 at 7:07 PM

Norma Jean? With that nose? Nuh uh…. Hillary? Phyllis Diller? Paula Dean?

106 Dr. Jellyfinger® June 30, 2014 at 7:14 PM

Oh…. it is Marilyn. Go figure…. she must’ve had a nose job at one time or another. My kid just showed me how the rest of you cheat to find the answer by clicking on the image & dragging it over to Google Images. Tain’t fair.

107 Pegasus June 30, 2014 at 7:15 PM

Way too easy Atticus, what else ya got?

108 Atticus Thraxx June 30, 2014 at 7:18 PM

Yep, you guys are good. Sad. It’s the only picture I can remember of her with an honest, real smile. Men broke her like a child thoughtlessly breaks a toy.

109 Dr. Jellyfinger® June 30, 2014 at 8:07 PM

I can’t even imagine kids playing with their toys like that.

110 VikingPrincess June 30, 2014 at 8:19 PM

Just a quick hello to all dedicated Claycordians. Jus’ been too hot for this Dane to post or anything. Blahh.
Hope all is well with you all. The heat is too much.

111 Connie Dobbs June 30, 2014 at 8:30 PM

#110 Not men, Kennedys.

112 Silva June 30, 2014 at 8:35 PM

Connie nailed it.

114 Barking Dogs July 1, 2014 at 7:50 AM

Thank you, AGAIN, jackass neighbors in Concord near Bailey Rd. for allowing your mutt to wake me AGAIN at 7:05 this morning. It’s nothing new; it’s been going on for probably 5 years. I bet if the police would respond to barking dog complaints, this arrogant AH Danville cop would not allow his dog to be such a nuisance.

115 What Happened To July 1, 2014 at 11:05 AM

Does anyone know what happened to California Auto Stores that was located on Clayton Road near Chestnut Street. I just drove by and saw a “For Rent” sign and the place was empty. I’m not sure how long they have been there but I know it’s been many years.

117 Silva July 1, 2014 at 3:34 PM

Antler, pretty exciting. I’m watching it at LAX waiting for flight #3 today. I’d forgotten what a mess this airport is. Oh boo! We lost.

118 Antler July 1, 2014 at 3:37 PM

With all goals being made in extra time, Belgium won the game 2-1. Our magnificent goalie, Tim Howard, made at least 16 saves.

So, as the British announcer put it, “The United States are out!”

Belgium advances and plays Argentina next.

119 Silva July 1, 2014 at 3:59 PM

I can’t even use the bathroom here at LAX. Disgusting! I have to wait. Mexico city’s facilities were pristine, even had a bathroom attendant.

120 Horse n around July 1, 2014 at 4:00 PM

@ Barking Dogs. Just curious what steps you have taken with this neighbor? Not trying to criticize or anything, just wondering if you have by chance talked to this person or written a letter etc? It might help the rest of us knowing what you have done that has not had any effect in stopping it.

121 Silva July 1, 2014 at 4:04 PM

They don’t even he the seat shielding paper. They just keep them clean.

122 Silva July 1, 2014 at 4:09 PM

*have

123 Atticus Thraxx July 1, 2014 at 5:15 PM

Silva if you travel, always carry a newspaper with you. Uses from toilet shield, toilet paper, wound compress, a funnel, a fuel source, a pillow, a bag for light dry goods, and can make a pretty effective garrote if you have nothing else and you have any McGuyver skills. And it weighs nothing.

124 Giggity July 1, 2014 at 5:19 PM

I feel for the Claycordian with the barking dog neighbor. These circumstances are irritating. Is there any device to stop dog barking? Is this person aware of his dog’s actions? Is this poor training or neglect?

125 anon July 1, 2014 at 5:54 PM

@120 Really? I thought all their toilet cleaners were up here.

126 Anon July 1, 2014 at 6:41 PM

Just saw another example of why young people shouldn’t be aloud to drive. Another accident on Clayton Rd hear Ayers. Two lifted “we are stupid kids” trucks slammed one into the other which then hit someone else. No doubt the kids driving were screwing around. WTF is gonna take?

128 Jojo Potato July 1, 2014 at 8:27 PM

Just replaced my Linksys WRT54G wireless router with a brand spanking new WRT1900AC model. Lots faster and better coverage throughout the house. I put the “downloading” and movie watching daughter on the 5 ghz side and left the old things, like this one on the 2,4 ghz. Managed to do the switchover without too much pain except for the “downloading daughter” who had to type in a new password. Oh, horrors! Sigh…

129 @anon #129 July 1, 2014 at 9:05 PM

Aloud is not the same as allowed.

130 Silva July 1, 2014 at 10:18 PM

Thanks Atticus Thraxx. Sounds like a good travel tip. I had a lot but couldn’t get to it. It was in my checked luggage encasing a good bit of amazing comfort food, all in the freezer now. The TSA got busy poking holes in the all the various bags, but no real harm done. Whew. Three flights and a four hour layover at LAX where the dirty deed was done. Flex ties were intact ’till then. Still have all the hooch we corked and sealed last night with sealing wax. :)

131 Puddintain July 1, 2014 at 10:36 PM

@anon #128, Scintillatingly witty, really.

132 Silva July 1, 2014 at 10:47 PM

136 CVCHS Top 10? July 2, 2014 at 3:10 PM

Shouldn’t this be top 20% for CVCHS? If CVCHS scored 10/10, then they would be in the top 10%, but they scored in the next group down (9/10 = top 20%)

“CVCHS Contines to Excell in Academics! KEEP ON REACHING FOR THE TOP CVCHS”

Based on our 62 point API jump to an 836, CVCHS’s statewide ranking went from a 5/10 to a 9/10. This means that CVCHS is now in the top 10% of schools in California when it comes to academic achievement.

Congratulations to our students! ”

It’s part of “their culture” to crap things up. Didn’t you know that??

139 History Maven July 3, 2014 at 12:54 PM

Just in time for the 4th of July…..

“1776” by famous historian David McCullough on sale for $3.28. This sale is for the Kindle version. If you don’t have a Kindle, you can download the Kindle app for your tablet or the Kindle software for your computer. Enjoy!

140 Silva July 3, 2014 at 3:55 PM

History Maven, (#142), about the kindle app, THANKS! I did not know that! Have you read “1776”? If so, was it good?

141 History Maven July 3, 2014 at 4:59 PM

Silva, no, I have not yet read “1776”. I snapped it up when I saw the sale price. It is now part of my to-be-read collection. It was a best seller when it was published a few years ago. The author is quite well respected as an historian and it got excellent reviews. I’m expecting it to be a very good read.

142 lizzie July 3, 2014 at 5:57 PM

My employer requires that employee’s drive their personal vehicles. We sometimes log up to 100 miles per day. We are paid .30 cents per mile. Does anyone know if their is a website or any info available on this subject?

143 Sid July 3, 2014 at 6:43 PM

Lizzie #145, what kind of info are you looking for? Here’s a website that might answer some of your questions.

144 Atticus Thraxx July 3, 2014 at 7:13 PM

The dead tree version of “1776” has great color pictures of the major players and maps and such. Worth picking up.

145 Atticus Thraxx July 3, 2014 at 7:14 PM

lizzie a quick google brought this up, you’re getting screwed: http://www.employers.org/blog/219-2014-mileage-reimbursement-rates

151 Odd Info July 3, 2014 at 9:31 PM

did you know there is actually a right side and a wrong side to the toliet paper seat covers!!!! I once gave a safety break on this at work..for fun….the side with SHINE is suppose to go down on the seat, that is because it’s sticky. Now you know why sometimes the cover sticks to your butt. Have a nice sit!

152 Just Askin' July 3, 2014 at 10:35 PM

Are noisy motorcycles ever ticketed for their illegally modified exhaust and excessive noise? There are a lot of immature people making a lot of noise on their bikes and I don’t understand why the police cannot control this. You can hear these bikes blocks away.

153 Just Askin' July 3, 2014 at 10:39 PM

Same people posting over and over again. Why don’t you all get together at a Starbucks or Peet’s instead of hammering away at each other on keyboards?

154 Just Askin' July 3, 2014 at 10:47 PM

Re: Odd Info #154. I doubt that there exists any evidence that a disease was caused by sitting on a toilet seat, or touching a doorknob, or ringing a doorbell, or pushing an elevator button but think about this: Riding a crowded BART train or flying in an airliner we are breathing in the same air that is exhaled by everyone around us. This air is full of moisture and bacteria love moisture.

155 Connie Dobbs July 3, 2014 at 10:57 PM

I have exciting news for you, Lizzie. The mileage reimbursement for tax purposes is in the neighborhood of .52 per mile. IRS.gov will have the accurate figure. The difference between what your company reimburses you and that figure is a tax deduction, as are tires, oil changes, maintenance and repairs. I can’t remember whether insurance qualifies. I used to be a process server, which is how I know this. It adds up really quickly.

156 nytemuvr July 3, 2014 at 11:27 PM

160 Shiloh July 4, 2014 at 12:05 AM

Toilet paper goes over. It looks nice and neat that way :)

161 Silva July 4, 2014 at 6:07 AM

I always change the toilet paper rolls to under in my house. I’ve heard they are supposed to be over, that’s why the professionals do it that way, ie: hotel cleaners, but I must change them when someone leaves them unrolling over at home. My mom put them in on the under side. I also untwist and detangle cords everywhere, and wash my hands a lot.

162 Silva July 4, 2014 at 6:12 AM

164 Barking Dogs July 4, 2014 at 7:44 AM

More barking dogs this morning at 7:00 a.m., although I don’t think I heard the AH neighbor’s dog this morning. Instead, it was his screaming KIDS at 7:05!!! Why is common courtesy and common sense so lacking these past 15 years? Maybe it’s time for me to call this guy’s lieutenant or captain for a little help.

I forgot to set my alarm for 4:00 this morning so that I could close my windows to avoid hearing the neighbors’s dog and his three young kids who “talk” louder than I yell.

165 Barking Dogs July 4, 2014 at 7:46 AM

I forgot to mention that this guy and his wife ought to realize that there is great monetary value in one’s peace being disturbed and for sleep deprivation.

What is this “toilet paper” you speak of? It’s sounds important.

170 Anonymous July 4, 2014 at 10:19 AM

@atticus

Toilet paper is something new that we use to replace leaves. You use them while using what we call toilets. Toilets are quickly replacing holes in the ground , and all the smartest people use them.

171 Antler July 4, 2014 at 10:42 AM

Lizzie, Connie at #158 is giving excellent information.
In addition (and unless the tax law has changed re the subject)….
You may claim a deduction for any mileage to and from work IF it is over a certain distance. You may claim mileage deductions when you are going back and forth between branch offices of the company…or between one of the offices and a client’s location. (I think that is the deduction Connie could use?)

As a private contractor in the music field, I could take a deduction for mileage between one of my studios and ANY work-related venue (including the other studio). Also, the tax code permitted mileage deductions for trips to and from a music store, concerts, recitals, seminars, competitions, lunch venues with a potential client, stationery stores for purchasing teaching and billing supplies, etc..

Bottom line……please see a tax accountant and get current applicable information!

172 Shelly July 4, 2014 at 11:43 AM

#173, of course being mindful to use the right leaves. Leaves of three, leave them be!

173 Shelly July 4, 2014 at 12:04 PM

Sorry Killjoy, I just throw things in till it tastes good. A few things though:

Don’t use russets, they’re too grainy, not smooth & creamy.

after the potatoes are cubed, add some fresh squeezed lemon juice or vinegar so they have a little zing. You need a good real mayonnaise such as Trader Joe’s. Always add lots of chopped celery.

Things to add maybe: mustard, chopped pickles or dill, rough chopped olives black or green, chopped eggs, chopped green onions, chopped bacon, salt & pepper, chopped pickled jalapeños for the big kids, etc., etc..

174 Antler July 4, 2014 at 1:48 PM

If you have a Pandora-One app, you might like to try the category called “Patriotic Country Songs”.
First song I heard was
“Semper Fi” as performed by Trace Adkins on his album “Proud To Be Here”

175 Antler July 4, 2014 at 2:34 PM

Again re Pandora-one categories, “Patriotic Country Songs” is nice as well.

Louis Silvie Zamperini passed at the age of 97.5 on Wednesday. I read “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption ” which was an autobiography by Laura Hildebrand about this man, who was perhaps the most remarkable person I’ve ever heard of. It’s very thoroughly researched, almost unbelievable, and a fantastic read.
