Claycord – Talk About Whatever

whatever

Happy Friday to all the wonderful citizens in the City of Claycord.

This is a post with no subject, you can talk about whatever you want. If breaking news happens (such as an earthquake), or you hear about something newsworthy, feel free to post it here.

Have a great weekend!

Top ten!

4 Killjoy June 27, 2014 at 8:47 PM

That’s okay Atticus. I told the boss I had plans in the morning. Couldn’t come in until maybe lunch time.
It won’t be a full day at work. Much to his dismay.

5 Marissa June 27, 2014 at 8:47 PM

First! Always..except for Cowellian. :-)

6 Ancient Mariner June 27, 2014 at 9:01 PM

‘Whatever” time again?
Time sure speeds up when you’re ancient!

7 bluebird June 27, 2014 at 9:20 PM

Who-Hoo! ChampagneKitty is back!

I had the opportunity to drive on Leland Road west bound today. What a gawd-awful road! I thought Pittsburg city had lots of money to maintain their roads. What happened? Who’s in charge over there?

Other than that, it was a pretty good day. Hubby does not have to go to court as a witness for the DA next week. The “defendant” finally confessed. Three years later. If I ever need a defense attorney, I hope I can have that guy/gal. Delayed the trial to the point that just about any witness would have forgotten almost all the details.

The Contra Costa Environmental Health department recently ruled to shut dogs out from Lazy Dog Restaurant’s outdoor seating area. This Sunday will be the last day dogs will be allowed at the restaurant. The word is that they made the ruling based on one complaint. The restaurant had no say in this.

My husband and I dine at Lazy Dog often and we’ve brought our pup there on many occasions. We know a lot of people who dine there specifically because it is a dog friendly restaurant. There aren’t that many restaurants in the area that welcome dogs so this ruling sets the precedence for all other restaurants with open space that currently allows dogs. We can’t let this happen.

Therefore, if you’d like to see this ruling reversed, please call Karen Mitchoff, the Contra Costa County Supervisor at 925-521-7100 or the Contra Costa Environmental Health line at 925-692-2500.

Does snyone know any big (like statewide or bigger) corporations/companies based in Claycord? All I know is that both Round Table Pizza and BevMo are headquartered in Concord.

Also, has anyone been to Muir Pub located in Carrows in Martinez (in the Nob Hill plaza across from the mvie theater). There’s nothing online and everytime I go to Carrows there, I peak in and there is no one there in the bar.

13 Need a Good Contractor June 27, 2014 at 9:55 PM

Any recommendations for someone to install glass shower doors? The two guys that came to my home 10 days ago, have not even contacted me with an estimate. I called one of them today, and he said he had put me on the back burner because he suddenly has another half million dollar job that is more of a priority to him. Geez guy! I didn’t ask you to come and install right now…..I’m just asking for a simple estimate to install two pieces of glass.

I haven’t even heard from the other contractor who said he would provide me with an estimate by last weekend. He was, also, bidding exterior and interior paint, installing and painting mouldings and interior doors and a window, etc.

I know the economy has changed, but are contractors really as busy as these guys claim? Are they really doing so well that they are not interested in $5k-$15k jobs?

I have the absolute worst luck with contractors. I really wish they would just flat out say they are not interested in the job instead of just blowing me off after I have waited two weeks for them to call.

Went used car shopping for my daughter. You would think the dealer would remove the completely bald tires on the back and replace them. Isn’t that a liability? Maybe clean the bed of the truck out and wash the month old spider webs off of it. Oh well worked out and found a better truck for a better deal! Have a safe weekend!

Seems to be coming from the business buildings on that Galaxy way corner. Anyone know what’s the deal?

I used Diablo Glass in Concord (925) 682-8271. They aren’t the cheapest and not the most expensive either. They came when they said they would, and did the job and cleaned up in one day. It does take some time after ordering the glass because mine was custom — but it is beautiful and exactly what I wanted. Good customer service and they knew what they were doing… they did both of my bathroom shower doors. Good luck to you!

36 WtgJo June 28, 2014 at 8:51 AM

Agree with using Diablo Glass – very happy with customer service.

37 Killjoy June 28, 2014 at 8:53 AM

Chevrolet Girl! Welcome back! It’s been a while since you’ve posted.
Didn’t you say you had a fat fendered Ford pickup?

Silva, thanks. As it turns out, the chamber turning into a fishbowl wasn’t the fault of the Jr. Scientist as originally assumed. I did find the leak, and repaired it. But it also caused complications that will take more time to repair.
But that’s why the keep me around. Stuff breaks, and I fix it. :)

FIFA World Cup game Chile vs Brazil on Channel 7 … Just started at 9am, and it’s already quite rough. Brazil has a 60- game victory streak on its home turf. The tactful way to comment on that is, “In tightly-refereed play…..etc., etc…..”

40 Antler June 28, 2014 at 9:20 AM

Aaaaaaaagh…..GOAL Brazil……clean!

41 waverunner June 28, 2014 at 9:26 AM

a THIRD for Diablo Glass. They installed 2 shower doors and two huge glass closet doors. They are professional and did an excellent job. They are expensive, but worth it.

Why is it that people who own dogs think they should be entitled to take them everywhere – just like kids, and not everyone has the same appreciation for them.

42 Anon June 28, 2014 at 9:47 AM

Have used Diablo Glass and was pleased with their work..

43 down and out June 28, 2014 at 10:26 AM

Speaking of glass, I have a crack in my windshield. Can anyone recommend a good place to have it replaced?

Safe Glass wanted $305
City Glass wanted $245
All Glass wanted $200 plus $45 if the molding doesn’t come off easily and needs to be replaced

Thanks!

I mean “Safelite”, not “Safe Glass”!

46 Karen June 28, 2014 at 10:44 AM

@23 KAD Thanks!
@41 waverunner This is not about feeling entitled. The Lazy Dog Restaurant is a dog friendly establishment. The restaurant’s concept and theme revolves around dogs, they even have a door menu. They have indoor and outdoor seating and the outdoor seating is dog friendly. If people don’t want to dine amongst dogs, then they have a choice to sit indoors or not dine there. It’s simple. Don’t ruin it for the rest of us.

Karen

The “acting” from players claiming to be mauled every 10 seconds is by far the most entertaining part of these games. If it wasn’t for that I’d be snoring.

I just can’t believe it! I will have to call!
This just strikes me weird; isn’t lazy dog’s motto to welcome dogs on the patio? Doesn’t everyone know this?
Why is it always just one person that has to mess it up for everyone else.

50 Homeless People with sigs June 28, 2014 at 12:22 PM

Sick of the homeless people on the grant street exit, One guy wears name brand sunglasses and listens to his IPod. What the heck? Not to mention there is so much trash all over that off ramp, it looks so dumpy.

52 Need a Good Contractor June 28, 2014 at 1:03 PM

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I have gotten an estimate from Diablo Glass, and now I am awaiting the second and third estimates. DG was very responsive and provided the estimate on the spot. Their estimate is just high (about $4,000), and now I am awaiting the second and third estimates.

Suzie Q. #28 – Thanks for the referral to Ramon. It appears this is a referral service, and I am looking for a word-of-mouth referral to an individual person or business. Also, I read the only yelp comment I could find, and it is not a good one. This person’s experience is exactly the same as the experiences I have been having with contractors.

After the few years that contractors were hurting for money, you’d think they would want to work. HELP!!!

53 down and out June 28, 2014 at 1:16 PM

I don’t understand post #50. What wrong with a homeless person having an iPod or name-brand sunglasses? Maybe he bought them or maybe someone gave them to him. So what? Homeless people can’t own things??

54 Marissa June 28, 2014 at 1:19 PM

I know what you mean, World Class. It is entertaining.

55 Killjoy June 28, 2014 at 1:40 PM

@down and out.
If they were truly homeless, how are they going to charge that iPod?
Again, if they were truly homeless, wouldn’t they be spending some cash on food, or other necessities of life before designer sunglasses?
As if you suggested they were given to them (highly unlikely) wouldn’t they trade them for something else they need? Like food or other necessities of life?
A cheap pair of $12 sunglasses will work just as nicely as the designer ones.

56 Larrabee June 28, 2014 at 2:01 PM

@ Down and Out #43:
I had a windshield replaced a few years ago. I called Safelite on Market in Concord; they came out and replaced it in my driveway. They showed up when they said they would. They did the job in a reasonable time frame, and they cleaned up well after themselves. The final price was less than the estimate. Bottom line: I’d use them again, in fact I’d call them first.

57 PH Neighbor June 28, 2014 at 2:12 PM

@#10
I left a voice message at both offices.
I just can’t believe this! One person makes this happen. What about all of the patrions who go to LD just so that they can bring their dog with them.
There should be a open to the public meeting on this!
Just absolutely ridiculous!

58 City Girl June 28, 2014 at 2:46 PM

I, too, am all for banning dogs from restaurants inside and out I do not want to dine with dogs. I have had these damn dogs drool on me, shake their fur near me, sniff me, and I have tripped over them while they were gnawing/drooling on bones. At one restaurant there were three dogs on the patio. All owners claim their dogs are friendly–except for the one that wasn’t. It growled at other dogs causing a ruckus/near fight 3-4 feet from me. Management did nothing.

I would like to try the patio at Lazy Dog but will not because of the dogs. There is no proof these mutts are even vaccinated. Humans should not have to choose between the dogs or indoors. Perhaps the owners can build another patio around the back for dogs only, with a separate entrance, while humans eat on the front patio.

Should the patrons be required to sign a waiver protecting the restaurant when a dog bites another dog or human?

Btw, Lazy Dog has a great burger w/avocado (I can’t remember the name)I while their chicken parmasean (lunch menu?) is terrible as are their midori margaritas. This is the only place I have been served a “yellow” midori margarita. They are supposed to be green. The first time I asked for more midori, I was refused without being charged extra, and the second time, more was added but just a tad bit. With the exception of one server, who seems to frequently be a “relief” service, the service I have received has been excellent and friendly.

59 Sid June 28, 2014 at 3:17 PM

Down and out, All Glass replaced my windshield. I was happy with their work. They have a little waiting room with a couple of couches and a TV.

60 down and out June 28, 2014 at 4:23 PM

Thanks Sis and Larrabee for your glass suggestions. I like the national warranty with Safelite but they have a number of really bad Yelp! reviews (as does City Glsss), but theb again, lots of good companies have bad reviews. I sort of like All Glass, as they were courteous on the phone, honest, and did not try to pressure me. They also have better, though less, Yelp! reviews.

61 Kirkwood June 28, 2014 at 4:27 PM

@down and out – There are “professional” panhandlers out there that probably make more money than you or I, especially in the City. News media have done stories about them.

62 Vicki D. June 28, 2014 at 5:50 PM

66 waverunner June 28, 2014 at 7:14 PM

So now, Karen, from what you are saying, if I don’t want to “dine with dogs”, I should just “suck it up” and dine indoors, or not dine at the restaurant at all because you think your dog should take precedent over people who don’t want to mingle with your special pooch.

Another great idea – why not leave your pooch at home where it belongs rather than thinking it is “entitled” to accompany you everywhere.

67 Marissa June 28, 2014 at 7:22 PM

Peter, I have seen people with animals in LD all the time; not just the disabled. Are you trusting laws california politicians that are bought and re-bought by the establishment. I don’t go to any eatery that will allow the variety of animals–it’s just disgusting when you think about where they have been. I can’t imagine eating while animals are sitting on the floor licking their butts

68 Ancient Mariner June 28, 2014 at 7:30 PM

Skill, but there’s always something that can go wrong, so a little luck is also handy.
One summer I worked as a tree feller. You can actually aim a tree quite accurately if it’s balanced and doesn’t start to rotate as it falls.
This guy looks like he knows exactly what he’s doing, but his reaction afterwards.says that he knows that something could have gone seriously wrong and it didn’t.

69 Count me in June 28, 2014 at 7:47 PM

…. with the group who says “NO dogs at restaurants!” I don’t want their fur flying in my food if I want to sit outside on the patio. Nor do I want to be slobbered on or have a vicious fight going on near me by 2 “oh yes, very friendly” dogs. Leave ‘em home or get your food to go and serve Brutus at your own kitchen table.

70 Chevrolet girl June 28, 2014 at 7:55 PM

Aw shucks, thanks for missing me! :) been busy car shopping and house hunting. We have a 1941 Ford truck that my 16yr old daughter and husband are restoring got her. We purchased a 2001 Toyota Tacoma 4×4 for her yesterday. We got a 5 speed so she can practice driving it before she drives the ’41.

71 Atticus Thraxx June 28, 2014 at 8:08 PM

That’s what I was thinking Ancient Mariner. I wouldn’t even have tried it. I’d have hit both buildings, broken the chainsaw and been audited.

72 Silva June 28, 2014 at 8:22 PM

Dogs are everywhere now. Did you not notice? They’re in grocery stores. Why make a stink about an eatery that welcomes dogs and their owners if you know the restaurant caters to people who want to dine with dogs? There are many other restaurants you may find more to your liking. WTF?

73 waverunner June 28, 2014 at 8:25 PM

I totally forgot to mention the liability issues of having dogs in restaurants. Not all dogs are amiable to all other dogs or people. The calmest and best trained dogs can go “off” in an instant for unknown reasons, and wouldn’t that just be nice to behold while trying to have a peaceful meal?

74 miss smiley June 28, 2014 at 8:28 PM

Have used Safelite and had wonderful service. They came exactly on time, the guy was professional and very nice. Price was very reasonable. They would be the first people I’d call if I ever needed a windshield replaced again. Then again, that was just MY experience.

75 Silva June 28, 2014 at 8:46 PM

Vicky D., I hope your husband is back enjoying his walks very soon.

76 Marianne June 28, 2014 at 10:32 PM

I keep my dogs at home when I go out. I serve them meat and vegetables for a well balanced meal. If I feel like it, I will go in my backyard and grill a steak for them, I take care of my dogs.

77 huey9k June 28, 2014 at 11:14 PM

Too many of you dog owners ARE guilty of feeling entitled to taking your dog any/everywhere. EVERY TIME I see a dog in an establishment, and it’s not a genuine service dog, I raise a fuss. Hygiene is an issue. YOUR DOG DOES NOT BELONG IN THE STORE, AT A RESTAURANT, IN THE BAR.

SHUT UP. TAKE THE ANIMAL HOME.

78 KAD June 29, 2014 at 12:06 AM

It is named Lazy Dog for a reason. They are only in the outside patio area. If you don’t want to look at a dog while you eat, then go inside. What is the world is wrong with you people?

C’mon Mayor. I understand the importance of hits on your web page and the popularity of a story being equally as important. But there’s no way a story that’s less than four hours old is going to get that any replies.

I’m thinking that dog owners, hospital employees, senior citizens and senior center staff, nearby residents, and those of us who had rather not drive all the way down to Willows Shopping Center to enjoy Lazy Dog food …. all would give business to such a truck.

Thank you, AGAIN, jackass neighbors in Concord near Bailey Rd. for allowing your mutt to wake me AGAIN at 7:05 this morning. It’s nothing new; it’s been going on for probably 5 years. I bet if the police would respond to barking dog complaints, this arrogant AH Danville cop would not allow his dog to be such a nuisance.

118 What Happened To July 1, 2014 at 11:05 AM

Does anyone know what happened to California Auto Stores that was located on Clayton Road near Chestnut Street. I just drove by and saw a “For Rent” sign and the place was empty. I’m not sure how long they have been there but I know it’s been many years.

121 Antler July 1, 2014 at 3:37 PM

With all goals being made in extra time, Belgium won the game 2-1. Our magnificent goalie, Tim Howard, made at least 16 saves.

So, as the British announcer put it, “The United States are out!”

Belgium advances and plays Argentina next.

Silva if you travel, always carry a newspaper with you. Uses from toilet shield, toilet paper, wound compress, a funnel, a fuel source, a pillow, a bag for light dry goods, and can make a pretty effective garrote if you have nothing else and you have any McGuyver skills. And it weighs nothing.

127 Giggity July 1, 2014 at 5:19 PM

I feel for the Claycordian with the barking dog neighbor. These circumstances are irritating. Is there any device to stop dog barking? Is this person aware of his dog’s actions? Is this poor training or neglect?

Just replaced my Linksys WRT54G wireless router with a brand spanking new WRT1900AC model. Lots faster and better coverage throughout the house. I put the “downloading” and movie watching daughter on the 5 ghz side and left the old things, like this one on the 2,4 ghz. Managed to do the switchover without too much pain except for the “downloading daughter” who had to type in a new password. Oh, horrors! Sigh…

The TSA got busy poking holes in the all the various bags, but no real harm done. Whew. Three flights and a four hour layover at LAX where the dirty deed was done. Flex ties were intact ’till then. Still have all the hooch we corked and sealed last night with sealing wax. :)

Shouldn’t this be top 20% for CVCHS? If CVCHS scored 10/10, then they would be in the top 10%, but they scored in the next group down (9/10 = top 20%)

“CVCHS Contines to Excell in Academics! KEEP ON REACHING FOR THE TOP CVCHS”

Based on our 62 point API jump to an 836, CVCHS’s statewide ranking went from a 5/10 to a 9/10. This means that CVCHS is now in the top 10% of schools in California when it comes to academic achievement.

The author is quite well respected as an historian and it got excellent reviews. I’m expecting it to be a very good read.

Re: Odd Info #154. I doubt that there exists any evidence that a disease was caused by sitting on a toilet seat, or touching a doorknob, or ringing a doorbell, or pushing an elevator button but think about this: Riding a crowded BART train or flying in an airliner we are breathing in the same air that is exhaled by everyone around us. This air is full of moisture and bacteria love moisture.

158 Connie Dobbs July 3, 2014 at 10:57 PM

I have exciting news for you, Lizzie. The mileage reimbursement for tax purposes is in the neighborhood of .52 per mile. IRS.gov will have the accurate figure. The difference between what your company reimburses you and that figure is a tax deduction, as are tires, oil changes, maintenance and repairs. I can’t remember whether insurance qualifies. I used to be a process server, which is how I know this. It adds up really quickly.

I always change the toilet paper rolls to under in my house. I’ve heard they are supposed to be over, that’s why the professionals do it that way, ie: hotel cleaners, but I must change them when someone leaves them unrolling over at home. My mom put them in on the under side. I also untwist and detangle cords everywhere, and wash my hands a lot.

Why is common courtesy and common sense so lacking these past 15 years? Maybe it’s time for me to call this guy’s lieutenant or captain for a little help.

I forgot to set my alarm for 4:00 this morning so that I could close my windows to avoid hearing the neighbors’s dog and his three young kids who “talk” louder than I yell.

Toilet paper is something new that we use to replace leaves. You use them while using what we call toilets. Toilets are quickly replacing holes in the ground , and all the smartest people use them.

174 Antler July 4, 2014 at 10:42 AM

Lizzie, Connie at #158 is giving excellent information.
In addition (and unless the tax law has changed re the subject)….
You may claim a deduction for any mileage to and from work IF it is over a certain distance. You may claim mileage deductions when you are going back and forth between branch offices of the company…or between one of the offices and a client’s location. (I think that is the deduction Connie could use?)

As a private contractor in the music field, I could take a deduction for mileage between one of my studios and ANY work-related venue (including the other studio). Also, the tax code permitted mileage deductions for trips to and from a music store, concerts, recitals, seminars, competitions, lunch venues with a potential client, stationery stores for purchasing teaching and billing supplies, etc..

Bottom line……please see a tax accountant and get current applicable information!

175 Shelly July 4, 2014 at 11:43 AM

#173, of course being mindful to use the right leaves. Leaves of three, leave them be!

176 Shelly July 4, 2014 at 12:04 PM

Sorry Killjoy, I just throw things in till it tastes good. A few things though:

Don’t use russets, they’re too grainy, not smooth & creamy.

after the potatoes are cubed, add some fresh squeezed lemon juice or vinegar so they have a little zing. You need a good real mayonnaise such as Trader Joe’s. Always add lots of chopped celery.

Things to add maybe: mustard, chopped pickles or dill, rough chopped olives black or green, chopped eggs, chopped green onions, chopped bacon, salt & pepper, chopped pickled jalapeños for the big kids, etc., etc..

177 Antler July 4, 2014 at 1:48 PM
