A verbal dispute between cab drivers evolved into an assault with a hammer at the Pleasant Hill Station this week.

The following information is from BART Police:

The male suspect struck the male victim on the left wrist causing bruising. The victim ran to his cab and the suspect attempted to strike him a second time through the open driver’s window.

Officers arrived on-scene and detained the suspect without using force. An independent witness came forward and gave a statement of what occurred.

The suspect was placed under arrest for assault with a deadly weapon and was issued a prohibition order.

A sergeant approved the arrest and the suspect was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility.

The victim declined medical treatment for his injuries

Thank God a sergeant approved the arrest!

Ridiculous BART police.

Disband the BART Keystone Kops and turn their duties over to the local jurisdictions.

We obviously need some common-sense laws against assault hammers.

3 SF_CityGirl June 22, 2014 at 6:58 PM

Probably fighting over the soccer game. So naturally break out the hammer…

Hey, Mr. Mayor,
Are you still running the BART Police logs? I looked earlier today, but didn’t see any for the past two weeks.

#15…. Lol…..sorry, that comment should have been addressed to Cowellian at #2. Was just trying to pull his chain a little, after he had given what he meant to be a funny slap-down.

Prejudice is thriving here in central county.

About 2 months ago I tried to get a cab at Pleasant Hill BART. Two cabbies were arguing over who was to take me. It was pretty scary. Young black guy and older Russian guy. I was afraid to get in either car.

Might be time to make BART a hammer-free zone.

21 Hammers don't Kill People... June 23, 2014 at 7:04 AM

22 The Mamba June 23, 2014 at 7:34 AM

What day was this? I got a ride to PHill BART on Friday because I didn’t want to leave my car there overnight, and had a great cab driver – hope he wasn’t involved.

23 Concord Guy June 23, 2014 at 8:58 AM

Both Concord and Walnut Creek need to do a better job in regulating cab drivers. Many of the cabs are dirty and many of the cab driver have bad bodily oder or reek of cigarettes. Also, almost every time I take a cab locally the cab drivers are illegally talking on their mobile phones.

24 What security June 23, 2014 at 9:11 AM

We need to regulate hammers.

25 @Concord Guy June 23, 2014 at 9:15 AM

Do you seriously think it’s the city’s responsibility to make sure cab drivers smell nice to you?

26 anon June 23, 2014 at 9:57 AM

Hammer = necessary cab driving tool.

27 One cabbie was a Sunni, June 23, 2014 at 10:22 AM

the other was a Shiite.

Just bringing the mid east war to America.

28 Concord Guy June 23, 2014 at 10:38 AM

#26. Yes. Many municipalities have standards for their cab drivers. New York City has quite strict standards:

Vote No to Smelly cab drivers.

30 What security June 23, 2014 at 10:47 AM

@ # 7 that was hilarious.

31 As I recall June 23, 2014 at 11:07 AM

May the fleas of one thousand camels invade your arm pits! was an old line from the Johnny Carson Show when he was playing Carnac the Magnificent.

33 anon June 23, 2014 at 1:20 PM

Anybody want to drive a cab? He can keep his job and the hammer.

34 Buck June 23, 2014 at 5:37 PM

@8.Think you missed my point.

35 Justin June 23, 2014 at 5:58 PM

One more reason Uber is awesome.

36 Atticus Thraxx June 23, 2014 at 6:18 PM

Declined medical treatment? Back in my day when you assaulted someone with a deadly weapon, they stayed assaulted.

37 Disgusted June 23, 2014 at 10:23 PM

This must have been part of the argument that I saw at Walnut Creek BART between two cab drivers last week. The cab driver from Sun or Sky Cab was the instigator. He kept walking up to the other cab driver and flipping him off and harrassing him.

38 Disgusted June 23, 2014 at 10:27 PM

I agree East County cabs need more moderation. They are gross. Everytime, the guy can’t even get off his cell phone to make sure he’s getting the correct directions. Last cab I caught from BART the guy was a complete psycho and said driving a cab is the worst job EVER!
