BART Train Techs Earn Another Trophy

It’s official: BART’s train car maintainers are the best in nation – wait – make that the best in North America.

BART’s team of train car maintainers took the trophy in Montreal this weekend during the transit industry’s International Rail Rodeo. BART’s team, Ted Christian, Dan Parris and Gary Crandell, faced off against counterparts from 17 other transit agencies in a series of events.

BART earned the top maintenance prize by earning the highest score after eight events. They placed first in the safety, mechanical measurements and written test categories and tied for first place in door maintenance.

This was the 22nd Rail Rodeo, sponsored and organized by the American Public Transportation Association. “It celebrates excellence,” Chief Mechanical Officer Tamar Allen said. “We’re testing and challenging ourselves by competing against the best in the industry.”

The weekend victory is a return to the winners circle for BART – this is BART’s seventh win in Maintenance at the Rail Rodeo (1994, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2011, 2014).

Watch the video above to learn more about what it takes to qualify for the Rail Rodeo.

And in other news, BART also won for best homeless people urinating / defecating / fornicating on trains in NA

Nice job! Maintenance technicians are under appreciated in our society.

Who pays for this?

Congratulations! It’s nice to be recognized for your good work. Way to go!

You do. All the expenses for the entire competition will be paid out of your pocke. Look for the bill in your mailbox this week. And thank you, lime ridge, for making this all possible.

I agree with Dwight Schrutes comment on top

Perhaps they spend to much time practicing for this than maintaining the trains, how many times have the trains gone down in the past year…minus the strike….

If the BART train maintainers are the best, I’d hate to ride on the other mass transit systems!!!!!!!

Congratulations to BARTS maintenance team! You have every reason to be proud. It’s comforting to know that our trains are being cared for by the best there is.

Maintaining the trains IS practice for this. God forbid the guys maintaining the trains should try to better themselves.

Don’t hold your grudges with BART against these top notch and highly skilled BART Techs. When was the last time you won a national competition in your field? Regardless of your opinions of BART, it’s quite a well deserved honor for these men. #Respect

So why is BART paying for employees to go to Canada to compete in a worthless event.

If the employees paid for this themselves, they are making far too much money. I am a professional and cannot afford a trip to Canada – but wait, I don’t get paid overtime.

@Concerned-

Life is full of choices and decisions…no need to compare where you came up short with yours while others got ahead with theirs. Make sense?

Jealously is is the platform for excuses and the the roadblock to personal happiness. Life will never seem fair and it’s up to us as individuals to make it fair.

@ EAZY RIDER

We should be paid for what we contribute to society. I contribute to BART in fares and property taxes. I have nothing but respect for the drivers and techs but there is no way that they should be paid more than I am. I have a college degree, several professional certifications, and manage a $15 million per year business unit.

Astounding.

Ohhhh, concerned has a degree! Let’s all bow down and worship them! Get off your high horse. Your degree isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on.

#14 You, too, are being paid what you’re worth. Aren’t you lucky.

Please tell me how much a college graduate is guaranteed to make? How much more are they guaranteed to make than a BART Tech? Just curious. How about the college educated BART Techs? Is it OK if they make more than you?

There are many ways to get an education in this world. College is one of them, I do agree, but far from the only way. Don’t let the huge price tag fool you:)
