Claycord – Talk About Whatever

June 6, 2014 21:04 pm · 200 comments

Happy Friday to all the wonderful citizens in the City of Claycord.

This is a post with no subject, you can talk about whatever you want. If breaking news happens (such as an earthquake), or you hear about something newsworthy, feel free to post it here.

101 What the frack? June 10, 2014 at 11:57 AM

Before I’m attacked by the typo police, I meant NCS/CIF.

Seriously, aren’t there rules against high school players transferring? Being recruited? Can he even play under these circumstances? Is CVCHS recruiting other players?

102 Tom June 10, 2014 at 12:05 PM

@ Shi ite—-88

Craig’s List is a flaky sight. I understand why people use it. The price is right, as well as the exposure.

It’s not worth it. To me anyway. You get what you pay for.

I don’t know how many Craig’s List killer stories, armed robbery car sales, prostitution……the list goes on. People will still continue to use it.

If you get burned on Craig’s List, perhaps you should’ve used better judgment.

103 Killjoy June 10, 2014 at 12:15 PM

Okay Silva, where do you hang out, so we can check out this hot, hairless woman? ;)

I shaved my head a few years ago (2008?) for the summer. My wife wasn’t too keen on it so I grew it back. I have always threatened that when the bald spot meets the receding hairline, it’s all going!

104 Silva June 10, 2014 at 1:10 PM

Truthfully, I’m really just an average looking bald gal. Sigh.

105 ??? June 10, 2014 at 2:36 PM

Has the amber alert story ben removed?

106 Sid June 10, 2014 at 2:59 PM

??? #105, they found the mother and the kids. The Amber Alert is no longer active.

107 lizzie June 10, 2014 at 3:34 PM

Does anyone know if Josh Cardone has gone to trial?

108 Killjoy June 10, 2014 at 3:52 PM

One man’s trash, is another man’s treasure.

109 ??? June 10, 2014 at 3:58 PM

Thank you Sid.

Concord man gets 12 years for stabbing death

MARTINEZ — A Concord man pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter Wednesday afternoon in the stabbing death of a neighborhood acquaintance, according to Contra Costa Deputy District Attorney Mary Knox.

Joshua Cardone, 22, was sentenced to 12 years in prison . . .

111 Cowellian June 10, 2014 at 4:07 PM

That was dated June 6th.

112 Antler June 10, 2014 at 4:14 PM

Dang, Cowellian! You’re WICKED good at that archive research stuff!

113 slagheap June 10, 2014 at 4:23 PM

re Sgt.Bergdahl. for the last cotton pickin’ time, here’s how it works: we send soldiers into battle, so we bring them back – that’s the way we do things. maybe he was a lousy soldier, maybe he wasn’t, NOBODY on this board knows that one way or the other, and IT DON’T MATTER ANYWAY, we bring ‘em all back if we can.

114 Killjoy June 10, 2014 at 4:47 PM

Curious that I made a posting at 3:52 which I see as still pending, yet I also see two posts from Cowellian that have cleared.
Can I assume that my post will not be approved??????

116 Connie Dobbs June 10, 2014 at 6:03 PM

I wouldn’t sweat it, Killjoy. You probably said something the moderator wanted a closer look at. Happens to me a lot, ha.

117 Shasta Daisy June 10, 2014 at 6:09 PM

My baby Western Bluebirds fledged yesterday.
Happy for them.
Sad for me.
I miss ‘em.
Till next year.

118 I'm The Urban Spaceman June 10, 2014 at 6:14 PM

I’m thinking of getting a tattoo for my forearm. Not sure how big…but looking for advice from those with experience…if I just get a big splotch on my arm, will it turn into a recognizable image in 20-30 years?
I see a lot of elderly gentlemen with Rorschach-like splotches on the forearms that used to be an image of something. I’m hoping it works in reverse.

119 Connie Dobbs June 10, 2014 at 6:30 PM

#115 Dude. You should get an actual Rorschach blot. It would be hilarious and terrifying to hear what people think it looks like.

120 Killjoy June 10, 2014 at 6:42 PM

It’s kinda funny Connie. My comment was completely innocuous.
In response to Silva commenting that she was just an average looking bald gal, I said
“One man’s trash, is another man’s treasure.”

The mods can look at it all day. There’s nothing in there to upset anyone. LOL

121 Killjoy June 10, 2014 at 6:44 PM

@I’m The Urban Spaceman
I saw a t-shirt on a younger person who was covered in tats and piercings that said “I don’t care what it looks like when I’m 80″.

122 Killjoy June 10, 2014 at 6:50 PM

Anyone seen the new Progressive commercial where they are in an airport? In the end of it, they ask “Who’s ready for the Garlic Festival?”

So? Who’s ready for the Garlic Festival? It’ll be here before we know it.

123 Connie Dobbs June 10, 2014 at 7:09 PM

124 Atticus Thraxx June 10, 2014 at 9:19 PM

Nope. Note the forearms.

125 Dr. Jellyfinger® June 10, 2014 at 10:08 PM

Odd Job?

126 Antler June 10, 2014 at 10:24 PM

#118…. While you’re at it, get pretty rings on each side of your navel. Maybe they will defy gravity so that someday you’ll have pierced ears!

127 KAD June 10, 2014 at 10:38 PM

Killjoy – the pending comment happens to me a lot. Nothing to worry about. I think it just gets hung up somewhere.

128 KAD June 10, 2014 at 10:41 PM

Killjoy – It posted at 3:52 before Cowellian’s. I see it even if you can’t.

129 Killjoy June 11, 2014 at 5:09 AM

Thanks KAD. I emailed the Mayor. He went back and cleared up the pending posts. Apparently mine weren’t the only comments pending that hadn’t cleared. :)

130 Silva June 11, 2014 at 6:10 AM

Thanks Killjoy, I think! ;D

131 Cowellian June 11, 2014 at 8:21 AM

I’ve noticed that my posts have sometimes gotten stuck in pending for a very long time, but sometimes show up immediately. I blame the magic of the Internet. And sometimes my posts show up, then disappear again. I wonder what could be causing that.

132 The ostrich June 11, 2014 at 10:05 AM

A man walks into a restaurant with a full-grown
Ostrich behind him. The waitress asks them for
Their orders. The man says, “A hamburger, fries
And a coke,” and turns to the ostrich, “What’s
Yours?” “I’ll have the same,” says the ostrich.

A short time later the waitress returns with the
Order. “That will Be $9.40 please” The man
Reaches into his pocket and pulls out the exact
Change for payment.

The next day, the man and the ostrich come
Again and the man says, “A hamburger, fries
And a coke.”

The ostrich says, “I’ll have the same.”

Again the man reaches into his pocket and
Pays with exact change.

This becomes routine until the two enter again.
“The usual?” Asks the waitress. “No, this is
Friday night, so I will have a steak, baked potato
And a salad,” says the man. “Same,” says the
Ostrich. Shortly the waitress brings the order
And says, “That will be $32.62.” Once again
The man pulls the exact change out of his pocket
And places it on the table.

The waitress cannot hold back her curiosity any
Longer. “Excuse me, Sir. How do you manage to
Always come up with the exact change in your
Pocket every time?”

“Well,” says the man, “several years ago I was
Cleaning the attic and Found an old lamp. When
I rubbed it, a Genie appeared and offered me
Two wishes. My first wish was that if I ever had
To pay for anything, I would just put my hand
In my pocket and the right amount of money
Would always be there.”

“That’s brilliant!” says the waitress. “Most people
Would ask for a Million Dollars or something,
But you’ll always be as rich as you want for as
Long as you live!”

“That’s right..Whether it’s a gallon of milk or a
Rolls Royce, the exact money is always there,”
Says the man.

The waitress asks, “What’s with the ostrich?”

The man sighs, pauses and answers, “My second
Wish was for a tall chick with a big fanny and long
Legs who agrees with everything I say..”

134 Heads up! June 11, 2014 at 11:49 AM

I was just informed by my husband who fell asleep on the sofa last night in the living room, that someone tried the front door knob at about 1:30 am. He got up and looked outside and saw no one, and went back to sleep. We live on Laverne Way, off Claycord Aveenue. It’s a nice quiet modest neighborhood on a cul de sac. They’re out there!

135 Atticus Thraxx June 11, 2014 at 11:49 AM

It’s Mickey frigging Mantle.

136 Heads up! June 11, 2014 at 11:57 AM

He’s a wooly one.

138 Killjoy June 11, 2014 at 12:07 PM

Yes Silva. It was intended as a compliment. Even if you believe you are average looking, I’m sure your husband married you because you are beautiful to him.

139 Heads up! June 11, 2014 at 12:11 PM

This wouldn’t be a good house to try to come into.

140 Silva June 11, 2014 at 12:37 PM

142 Killjoy June 11, 2014 at 1:57 PM

I stopped in to Hop Sing’s for lunch today. If you don’t know where they are, it’s in a little strip mall on Contra Costa Blvd at the corner of Center St in Pacheco.
The last time I was there was about 32 years ago when I was a mechanic at Malibu Grand Prix.
The fact that Hop Sing’s is still there speaks volumes. Yes the food was pretty good for take-out Chinese food. It’s made fresh while you wait. No steam table stuff like other fast Chinese food places.

143 Atticus Thraxx June 11, 2014 at 5:46 PM

Killjoy I used to go to Malibu GP back in the day. Would have been around 1980-1982. I don’t remember you though.
Here’s something cool, I wonder how many humans could figure this out:

144 ...... June 11, 2014 at 7:35 PM

Watch out,…..the “National Renewable Energy Center” telemarketers are out again in full force. They’re rude, arrogant and claim that the do not call registry doesn’t apply to them. They also told us that they represent PG&E (which they don’t).

145 Killjoy June 11, 2014 at 7:37 PM

Atticus, that’s pretty much when I was wrenching on the cars there.
But as a mechanic, they kept us in the back. Unlike the “Pit Crew” who helped people into their cars, or the girls at the counter who sold the tickets, etc.

As for the bird displacing the water by dropping more items that sink so it could get what it wanted, that’s pretty smart of it. :)

Just think if the idiots Nortenos or Surenos were as organized as the Tongs in SF and had leaders like Shrimp Boy………Wow…….Well at least there won’t be all the street crap as they like to keep in bars, restaurants, shops and homes. They also ae good at flying under the radar with just a couple of folks like Raymond Chow in the “spotlight”……
Raymond Chow is one savvy and vicious man. I would hope that this time they finally have him but I have my doubts. Altho I wish that damn lawyer would buy some teeth. Lord only know he get paid enough to purchase teeth.
My dad use to laugh at the gangs in Oakland as say that is any of them ever had to tangle with a Tong they would crap their tights.

Will YVR always and forever smell like the sewer on a certain stretch?

155 Jojo potato June 12, 2014 at 3:54 PM

Reminder : Concord blue devils family night June 14 at DVC 9:00 pm. A real treat and I think it’s free. They usually travel most of the summer so this is a rare chance to see them locally. They will be geared up for the summer tour and it will be a great show.

156 Sid June 12, 2014 at 4:05 PM

Yes, Shelly, that stretch of YV will always smell like a sewer. The smell is naturally occurring from a spring, not man-made.

157 Blue Devils Fan June 12, 2014 at 4:15 PM

JoJo, there is a $10 admission charge for Blue Devils family night on Saturday. Kids under 8 are free. They need to raise money any way they can! It costs a lot to take a drum and bugle corps on tour.

I urge everyone to go. It’s great fun for the whole family. This is your chance to see them before they go on tour this summer.

It’s at DVC. The gates open at 5:30 and the show starts at 7:30.

163 the Shi ite June 12, 2014 at 7:56 PM

@ Tom 102 and the Other responder #93. Thanks, I don’t do anything unless I can talk to the craigslist seller first. I found a decent set locally that the wife just had to have a front loader instead. 3 year old Kenmore – old school with agitator and matchihng gas dryer for less than half of what they sell for at Sears. I’ll just resell the dryer.
I can’t find any good reviews on the “modern” high efficiency washers – Lot of drama. Bad main boards, sensors etc. I don’t do enough laundry to justify the cost.
@ #93: Yep, my old washing machine was a late 90’s or early 2000’s GE!!! Transmission shot – Not worth repairing.
The part that hurts craigslist is the FYEE part. If a seller had to pay, they would definitely be responding to interested buyers instead playing hide-n-seek.

164 Shelly June 12, 2014 at 8:16 PM

Sid, thanks for that. I just can’t get over it! So many many years I had it so wrong.

Well……….. if Mickey frigging Mantle could throw a hat as hard as he could hit a baseball he would have put Odd Job to shame. Mickey was a switch hitter too, so he surely could have bested OJ left handed. Whoa! Odd Job’s initials are OJ….. hmmmm, mere coincidence I suppose that severing heads should be a common interest for those with the same initials. Of course, Mickey, with a metal razor edged batting helmet…. it wouldn’t have the same balance as Odd Job’s bowler. Probably wobble all over the place & only offer about a 50% chance of cutting off James Bonds head. I’ll bet OJ Simpson wouldn’t be able to throw a hat at all. Mickey & Odd Job probably could handle a Stiletto OK tho.

169 Dr. Jellyfinger® June 12, 2014 at 9:16 PM

I thought he must have passed away 20 years ago….. I’ll bet most of you corn snake lovers never even heard of him.

174 Silva June 13, 2014 at 1:04 AM

#163, @ 12 years ago I got a Fridgidair frontloader in my Oakland house. It still runs like a champ. Never had a problem. @ 3 years ago I got an LG frontloader for my Claycord house. It has more bells and whistles, runs like a champ, no problems either. The best thing about frontloaders is that they don’t wear out your clothes nearly as fast as the old school agitator machines, and use a lot less water. My mom told me that the first machines she remembered were frontloaders, and the agitators came later.

Have I ever told you that Merriam-Webster Dictionary has a daily and fascinating “Word of the Day” email service?

Today’s word was introduced with the statement that it had been added to the dictionary only this year. It’s “freegan”.

If I don’t immediately know what the daily word means, it’s fun to play around with what might be a recognizable root from a foreign language. Often I have seen an esoteric word in print but have just continued reading (rather than looking up its meaning) because context gave general comprehension. And usually a new word added to the dictionary these days is slang I have at least heard. But “freegan”? Anybody out there???

To paraphrase, a “freegan” is an activist who scavenges for free food in restaurant trash receptacles and dumpsters so as to reduce consumption of earth’s resources. Sometimes they work in community gardens. And they sometimes organize events to encourage all the above.

Again, anybody out there?

181 Silva June 13, 2014 at 8:46 AM
