“The Tin Foil Hats” – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tin_foil_hat

It is time to open the mind folks…

The lies about the about the lies are not telepathic.

The human condition is conditioned to telepathic communication…

We really do know what’s going on even though they’ve convinced US we don’t.

We can no longer be ‘drones’ to the lies of those who punk, manipulate, dis-govern US!

It is time to shrink and dissemble the plantation manipulators…

It is time to put the shill back on the shills themselves…

We must watch honestly on these carolers of deceit…

They have successfully got to US and got US to bang the the dumb drum against one another…

It is time to control the controllers before more and more are hurt killed and discouraged to live a better life for ourselves and those we actually care and care for including those whom we disagree (don’t care much for)…WE MUST GET IT!

I know we can!

Love,

“MEME”.

@Rollo Tomasi: No soldier is guaranteed to be free from injury or death during her/his service. I wasn’t. No family is ever promised that a loved one could never be killed or wounded in service. Mine wasn’t. We were, however, promised that no effort would be spared in our defense if captured by the enemy.

406 Dennis June 4, 2014 at 5:20 PM

Let’s set the record straight here. Several falsehoods have been introduced to the discussion as fact.

1- “No soldier left behind” is *not* US policy; it is the motto of those elite troops who operate behind enemy lines. We left soldiers behind in WW1, WW2, Korea, and Vietnam. (the effort to return POWs and MIA in Vietnam was halted when John Kerry realized it was interfering with his cousin’s business interests).

2- the US negotiates POW exchanges. False. During war, the POWs for both sides are detained until cessation of hostilities, before they are released. Note that those occur when Sovereign Nations conform to the rules of war. There are no “prisoner swaps” with legitimate POWs.

3- Bergdahl was not a POW. He voluntarily joined a militant extremist group in Afghanistan, and was dressed as a civilian. There are a few minutes of Taliban-produced video of Bergdahl, purportedly showing he was well treated while in “captivity”, but years worth of video missing as to how he actually spent those years (as a teacher and part of the community). Was he a prisoner or deserter?

4- Why was Bergdahl chosen? We have missing soldiers and journalists (kidnapped) all over the world. Why was Bergdahl chosen?

5- there have been deserters from Korea, and Vietnam, who spent years with their new-found regimes, and eventually discovered that the regimes were tired of providing for them. They came home voluntarily. Except one in North Korea, who married a Japanese woman kidnapped and sent to NK. She chose repatriation to Japan, he elected to remain in NK.

Bottom line: Obama chose to use Bergdahl for political gain, choosing him over numerous other captives to repatriate. Why?

” Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and David Vitter (R-La.) heatedly clashed Wednesday during a hearing on nuclear power safety. Boxer, the chairwoman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, was criticized by Vitter, the ranking Republican, for her treatment of a witness. At one point, she gaveled down Vitter and told him he is powerless to stop her, saying,

There have always been new young soldiers who simply walked away. Like Sgt. Bergdahl, they left their weapons and gear and simply walked away.

This goes back all through history. Even the threat of death for desertion was no deterrent.

Thousands of American fighting men have done this since 1775.

If the fellow had been in the troop awhile, the Band of Brothers would try to recover in patrol and search. Otherwise they might go off without any effort.

Civilians have no knowledge of military, law enforcement, fire, and medical protocols long standing in each profession at risk. Yet they have a strong opinion on what is right and what is wrong.

They are allowed to comment because the Internet is poser neutral, and unintelligent opinions are sometimes amusing.

Sen. Inhofe:
“This reckless decision by the President has been hailed as a great victory—not by the American people or our allies, but by the same terrorists who are trying to kill American soldiers in Afghanistan today.

Mullah Omar, the Taliban’s leader, has called the release of the detainees a “great victory.”

Mullah Salem Khan, a senior Taliban commander in Helmand Province, the scene of some of the toughest fighting our troops have encountered to date, characterized the release as “like putting 10,000 Taliban fighters into battle on the side of jihad. Now, the Taliban have the right lion to lead them in the final moment before victory in Afghanistan.””

MEDICAID ENROLLMENT UP 15 PERCENT IN STATES THAT EXPANDED OBAMACARE

“An additional 6 million Americans enrolled in Medicaid and related health programs for the poor compared to before the six-month signup period began last October for the Affordable Care Act, the Obama administration said today in a new report.

“The figure of 6 million more individuals is as of the end of April for both Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) with enrollment in those states that adopted the Medicaid expansion up 15.3 percent compare to those that didn’t, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services blog linked here. The new numbers include 1.1 million individuals who signed up to Medicaid in April “as compared to March in the 48 states that reported data for both April and March,” the report said.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/brucejapsen/2014/06/04/medicaid-enrollment-up-15-percent-more-in-states-that-expanded-obamacare/

“The federal government traditionally picks up a little more than half of the cost of Medicaid. But funding under the health law is unlike past efforts to expand Medicaid in that the federal government will pick up the full tab for the first three years. The state gradually has to pick up some costs in 2017, but by 2020, the federal government is still picking up 90 percent or more of the Medicaid tab.

“These new individuals covered under Medicaid are in addition to the 8 million people who signed up for private coverage purchased on state or federally-regulated exchanges under the law during the open enrollment period from October through the end of March of this year.

“Because of the Affordable Care Act, many consumers now have access to new, affordable, private health insurance options in the Health Insurance Marketplace, while many others are now eligible for their state’s Medicaid programs,” the Obama administration said. “These gains are made possible by collaboration between CMS and the states that operate these programs.”

– “THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TRADITIONALLY PICKS UP A LITTLE MORE THAN HALF OF THE COST OF MEDICAID. BUT FUNDING UNDER THE HEALTH LAW IS UNLIKE PAST EFFORTS TO EXPAND MEDICAID IN THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WILL PICK UP THE FULL TAB FOR THE FIRST THREE YEARS.”

New Totals:

8.3M New ObamaCare Insureds
3.0M younger that 26
6.0M Expanded Medicaid (up from 4.5M)
5.0M Provoked to buy PPO or HMO coverage

22.3M newly covered insureds.

413 Yhe Phantom June 4, 2014 at 5:57 PM

ABOUT 20.8 MILLION [now 22.3M] PEOPLE ARE NOW ENROLLED.

“About 20.8 million people are now enrolled in insurance because of the law, said HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. That includes those 8 million who enrolled in private insurance, 4.8 million now covered by Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, 5 million who bought coverage outside the state and federal exchanges and 3 million adults younger than 26 now covered through their parents’ insurance.

“Eighty-five percent of those who enrolled in private health insurance through the state and federal exchanges between Oct. 1 and April 15 received federal subsidies to help pay for it, the HHS report showed. That is similar to figures released earlier by HHS.

“The statistics also show that 28% of the 8,019,763 people who selected private health insurance are between the ages of 18 and 34, the age group that insurance analysts believe will help balance out the market’s finances.
“The new data showed that 54% of those enrolling in insurance were women, while 63% of all enrollees were white. Of the remaining enrollees, the HHS report showed, 17% were African American, 11% Hispanic, 8% Asian, 1% multiracial, 0.3% American Indian/Alaska native and 0.1% native Hawaiian/Pacific islander.

More divisionism expressed as information from the real world. Oh well!

– 85% to 90% are paying the premiums according to insurers

The total was adjusted in June to include 1.5M more covered under Expanded Medicaid.

“Other soldiers and veterans hold fast to the idea that the military looks out for its own. One of them is Barry Romo, who commanded a platoon in Vietnam from the summer of 1968 to the spring of 1969, who now works with the War Resisters League, an antiwar group that has existed since 1923.

“We would absolutely never leave a man behind,” Romo told International Business Times. “Even if Bergdahl did walk off post, he may have been suffering from delayed PTSD or had some sort of shell shock. Just because he [may have] walked doesn’t mean he should be left behind.”

Romo added that it is not yet clear whether Bergdahl intentionally abandoned his post. “We cannot judge him until all the facts have been collected,” he said.”

– Turned out to not be the truth after all.

“…and soldiers from his own unit died trying to track him down,” wrote Nathan Bradley Bethea…”

Pentagon says NO!

“I do not know of specific circumstances or details of U.S. solders dying as a result of efforts to find and rescue Sergeant Bergdahl,” Hagel told a news conference after a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels

“Let’s get the facts, but let’s first focus on getting Sergeant Bergdahl well, getting his health back, getting him reunified with his family,” Hagel said.

“Let’s not forget Sergeant Bergdahl is a member of the United States armed forces … The United States of America has, and always will have, responsibility for getting its soldiers back. Other questions and facts regarding Sergeant Bergdahl will be dealt with at a later time,” he added.

““An additional 6 million Americans enrolled in Medicaid and related health programs for the poor ”

Did anyone explain to them that Medicaid/MediCal does not pay for medical care, in echange for the “premiums” collected as taxes?

Did anyone explain to them that Medicaid/MediCal is a LOAN from government, and when the person died (or even before), the government can and will confiscate everything they own and garnish all their income, to PAY BACK that loan?

All these old people, who own their homes, and live on meager SSI payments, will LOASE everything they’ve worked for their entire lives, when Medicaid/MediCal demands they REPAY all the money they were LOANED.

The Socialist dream of confiscating all private wealth upon death is becoming a reality. After all, if you are allowed to pass on something to your kids, so they have a better life, might just result – 4 or 5 generations down the line – in another Rockefeller or Kennedy. Rich and privileged. Can’t have that in a Socialist Paradise, right?

@Grand Mal you’re just another name used by the whack-a-mole hive-mind, aren’t you?

Real property is not considered income. Old folks who own their homes and live off of cash from their investments may very well have less than $1000 expenses. And qualify for Medicaid. BTW you do know that Obama has changed the rules of eligibility for Medicare and Medicaid/MediCAl, specifically so that more people can sign up? And you do know that a typical SocSec monthly check is over $1000, right? Are you saying no-one on SocSec can get Medicaid or MediCal?

Of course not. You just want to deny that the government can confiscate the property of anyone using Medicaid/MediCal. Deny that they are destroying inheritance rights, under the pretext of medical care.

Is government medical care under Medicare or Medicaid any better than VA? nope. Except that with VA, they don’t confiscate all your property when they provide care.

According to CBS News, “the number of people in the U.S. living in poverty in 2010 rose for the fourth year in a row, representing the largest number of Americans in poverty in the 52 years since such estimates have been published by the U.S. Census Bureau.” MSNBC said, “The U.S. poverty rate remains among the highest in the developed world.” Let’s look at a few poverty facts.

Heritage Foundation researchers Dr. Robert Rector and Rachel Sheffield laid out some facts about the poor in their report “Understanding Poverty in the United States: Surprising Facts About America’s Poor” (9/13/2011).

Eighty percent of poor households have air conditioning.

Nearly three-fourths have a car or truck, and 31 percent have two or more.

Two-thirds have cable or satellite TV.

Half have one or more computers.

Forty-two percent own their homes.

The average poor American has more living space than the typical non-poor person in Sweden, France or the U.K.

Ninety-six percent of poor parents stated that their children were never hungry during the year because they couldn’t afford food.

http://frontpagemag.com/2011/walter-williams/poverty-in-america/

and of course, they all qualify for Medicaid, not knowing that all their “goodies” are going to be confiscated by the government.

“Heritage Foundation researchers Dr.

[I do not believe this metric]

– If they knew any poor people they would know these units are not turned on; not even sparingly in extreme heat. Often families and neighbors simply sit outside in the evening and through the night. They have air conditioning units they do not use. They came with the apartment.

NEARLY THREE-FOURTHS HAVE A CAR OR TRUCK, AND 31 PERCENT HAVE TWO OR MORE.

– If they knew any poor people they would know these are old vehicles regularly requiring repair, and may have been acquired as “gifts” from others. Think of the Jeff Foxworthy joke about a Redneck lawn.

TWO-THIRDS HAVE CABLE OR SATELLITE TV.

– If they knew any poor people they would know these households may have five or more people sharing a $70.00 cable contract, or simply an antenna.

HALF HAVE ONE OR MORE COMPUTERS. FORTY-TWO PERCENT OWN THEIR HOMES.

– If they knew any poor people they would know these are old people who have paid for their home after thirty years, or have inherited the home from parents.
– These computers are artifacts from 1990’s and generally have less than a half-gigabyte of RAM and only 30 G of storage, unless they are E-Machines from an earlier prosperity.

THE AVERAGE POOR AMERICAN HAS MORE LIVING SPACE THAN THE TYPICAL NON-POOR PERSON IN SWEDEN, FRANCE OR THE U.K.

– If they knew any poor people they would know poor people would find housing in buildings that were homes for the affluent families in the 20th century. They enjoy 11-foot ceilings and large dining and living rooms, now filled with used beds and furniture from Goodwill.

NINETY-SIX PERCENT OF POOR PARENTS STATED THAT THEIR CHILDREN WERE NEVER HUNGRY DURING THE YEAR BECAUSE THEY COULDN’T AFFORD FOOD.”

If they knew any poor people they would know this is because of WIC (Child nutrition programs.) and SNAP (Food Stamps).

Walter Williams needs to meet some poor people and go to their homes to finally see what they are talking about for a change. If our poor people are not starving in the streets, in the middle of winter, it is no fault of his.

The Bergdahl Deal – Five Terrorists For A ‘Deserter’?
http://townhall.com/columnists/larryelder/2014/06/05/the-bergdahl-deal–five-terrorists-for-a-deserter-n1847727/page/full

The five terrorists released from Guantanamo in exchange for Bergdahl are said to be “the worst of the worst.” They were all high-level Taliban. Two deputy ministers, two Taliban governors and a head of security — with at least four involved in heroin trafficking, drug wars, and mass murders.

——————

USA Today News analysis: Bergdahl celebration became a mess
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2014/06/04/political-furor-bergdahl-release-obama/9964639/

Could the decision to release the Taliban commanders encourage terrorist groups elsewhere to try to capture American soldiers, diplomats or citizens in hopes of winning a valuable reward for their release?

While prisoner exchanges are a standard part of the conduct of war, political scientist Christopher Gelpi of Ohio State University cites as potentially problematic the administration’s equivalent treatment of an American POW and Gitmo detainees, who have not been granted POW status by the U.S. government. What’s more, the administration negotiated the swap with the Taliban, not the Afghan government.

“The U.S. may appear to be granting the Taliban some legitimacy as an international actor, and in doing so may undermine the legitimacy of the Afghan government,” says Gelpi, chairman of OSU’s Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution program.

Now I’m not saying she was practically embalmed with scotch when it happened, but as an “inside joke” I gave her a gift (William Holden Drinking Helmet, it’s a hard hat covered with little springs) along with her get well card.

Joe for President? OK. Just look at Obama’s record, he’s squelched the recovery with policies that discourage job creation, health care…. FAIL. The USA humiliated around the globe, Congress bypassed, belittled, ignored. Laws are merely suggestions to Barry. He’s created scandal after scandal after scandal & chuckles them all off as “phoney” with no plausible explanation for any of it. He’s fumbled and bumbled his way through this far without taking responsibility for any of his flops.

77,000 foreign banks to share tax info with IRS

WASHINGTON (AP) – It will soon get a lot harder to use overseas accounts to hide income and assets from the Internal Revenue Service.

More than 77,000 foreign banks, investment funds and other financial institutions have agreed to share information about U.S. account holders with the IRS as part of a crackdown on offshore tax evasion, the Treasury Department announced Monday.

The list includes 515 Russian financial institutions. Russian banks had to apply directly to the IRS because the U.S. broke off negotiations with the Russian government over an information-sharing agreement because of Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

Nearly 70 countries have agreed to share information from their banks as part of a U.S. law that targets Americans hiding assets overseas. Participating countries include the world’s financial giants, as well as many places where Americans have traditionally hid assets, including Switzerland, the Cayman Islands and the Bahamas.

Starting in March 2015, these financial institutions have agreed to supply the IRS with names, account numbers and balances for accounts controlled by U.S. taxpayers

The Knights of Columbus submitted to Congress that the words “Under God” should be added to our pledge of allegiance. Both Houses of Congress passed the law and it was signed by President Eisenhower in 1954. The information below was based on a poll taken by NBC on what percentage should keep the words in our pledge versus the percent who want it removed.

Official versions:
1892 ~ “I pledge allegiance to my flag and the republic for which it stands: one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”
1892 to 1923 ~ “I pledge allegiance to my flag and to the republic for which it stands: one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”
1923 to 1924 ~ “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States and to the republic for which it stands: one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”
1924 to 1954 ~ “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands; one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”
1954 to Present ~ “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America , and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Do you believe that the word God should stay in American culture?
NBC had the highest Number of responses that they have ever had for one of their polls, and the percentage was this:
86% to keep the words, IN God We Trust and God in the Pledge of Allegiance, 14% against.
That is a pretty ‘commanding’ public response.

Even before this pole, it’s well known that 86% of Americans believe the word God should stay. Therefore, I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a mess about having ‘In God We Trust’ on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Why is the govt catering to this disgruntled loudmouth GOD hating14%?

The funny truth is the Republicans are scrambling like rats to get onto the new Bergdahl raft.

The VA problem was heading in a very bad direction for the Republicans. The answer was individual universal single payer coverage for Veterans through the ObamaCare portal.

Quick, find another scandal…any scandal…anything, even good news and do the flip trick.

Get everybody away from the Veterans lists and ObamaCare, and Benghazi.

Under these simplifications, “property,” such as a car, is no longer counted.

If you are under 55, you can sign up for Medi-Cal knowing that nothing will happen to your assets unless you are institutionalized. For those over 55 or in an institution, the Department of Health Care Services may present a claim for the cost of your care. Funding and Connections

Since 1985, George Mason University (GMU), and its associated institutes and centers, has received more funding from the Koch Family Charitable Foundations than any other organization–a total of $29,604,354. The George Mason University Foundation has received the most funding, $20,297,143, while the Institute for Humane Studies has been directly given $3,111,457, the Mercatus Center $1,442,000, and George Mason University itself has received $4,753,754.

In addition to financial ties, Koch also has personnel involved with the university. Richard Fink, the vice president of Koch Industries, Inc., and the former president of the Charles G. Koch Foundation and the Claude R. Lambe Foundation, serves on the board of directors of the Mercatus Center. Fink’s connection to George Mason University is strong. Besides teaching at the university from 1980-1986, Fink has also served on a number of boards at the university including the Institute for Humane Studies and the Center for the Study of Public Choice, the Board of Visitors, and the Student Affairs Committee.

Dennis@#434,

Can you not READ? I spoke only of disqualifiers for a person applying for MediCAL A person owning real estate must sell that and then show that his net worth (any other valuables) is below a certain amount. Also, the person may not receive SS of more than $500 per month.

Also, you pipsqueak, the government does NOT confiscate whatever is left over when a person dies….regardless of whether he is on Medicare, Medical, or neither. If assets upon death are below a certain amount ( and I believe that amount is now $3 million for any federal tax to be taken), then the heirs may keep that, subject (in some states) to a partial inheritance (aka death) tax.

And in my opinion, a person trying to apply for MediCAL coverage should INDEED have to be just about destitute. The typical long-term care facility is charging $6,000 per MONTH for baseline services, which do not include pharmaceuticals. I hope the axe falls on some of them the same way it is finally falling on the VA facilities.

The least you should do is be honest when you repeat what other commenters have written. No wonder your very creative factoids are being dumped down the drain on here. Get real!

I don’t care if 99% of the people want religious references on our money, in our Pledge, as part of a swearing in process for public office, or to testify in court. This is a clear case where the majority does NOT have the right to dictate their beliefs to a minority. The existence of a god is NOT a proven fact.

“The blaze that ripped through the National Personnel Records Center in a St. Louis suburb shortly after midnight on July 12, 1973, consumed 16 million to 18 million official military personnel files long before computers kept such records safe from harm. Few could have predicted the harm it would visit on the veterans who were denied VA benefits — some to this day — because they could not reconstruct their military service files.”

“According to the National Archives, the fire destroyed the files of 80 percent of Army personnel discharged between Nov. 1, 1912 and Jan.1, 1960. It also wiped out the files of 75 percent of Air Force personnel discharged between Sept. 25, 1947 and Jan. 1, 1964.”

This excuse was used to deny thousands of Vietnam Vet claims, and even queries. The file lost, however, were all from the Korean War and earlier.

“We don’t have your record, thus owe you no benefits”.

As you can see on the link, they had many of those files all along, but claimed – for decades – they did not.

Gotta love the VA … it is a poster child for why we don’t want the government to have control of our personal records … especially medical.

People often confuse Medicaid with Medicare, but
there is a critical difference between the two programs.
Medicare eligibility derives from Social Security
contributions, and is a true “entitlement” program.
Theoretically, coverage comes as part of the funds
paid into the system, although in reality the federal
government has to borrow billions of dollars to cover the costs.

Medicaid, on the other hand, is a state-based and
federally-subsidized welfare program, one that employs
means-testing – which includes ownership of assets as
well as income levels. Medicaid programs include conditions
that put recipients’ assets remaining after death at risk
for seizure to reimburse taxpayers who footed the bill for
the recipient’s health care during his/her lifetime.

This was done to prevent fraud, to ensure that limited
resources went to the truly needy, and to recapture resources
to cover future costs. Until now, though, Medicaid was a
voluntary program, and the vast majority of people who entered
into it had few assets to risk by signing up.

Here’s where the law of unintended consequences comes into
Obamacare. Thanks to the exchange programming, consumers are
getting enrolled in Medicaid whether they understand what
that means or not, and in much greater numbers than before.
(In the first month, nearly 90 percent of all the enrollees
in the federal and state exchanges were Medicaid applicants.)

Unless they look at the fine print in the paperwork in Washington
and other states with similar asset-forfeiture regulations,
any assets they own will not pass to their heirs but to the state instead.

“Announcing the trust in God on our MONEY is a sacrilege against God. It suggests that MONEY is a Holy thing.”

I’m sorry you can’t rightly divide the Word or grasp the true meaning thereof.

Stop leaning on your own understanding!

The Bible says no such thing.

You have missed it again.

Moreover, your stretch of reality is not supported.

YOUR personal opinion holds no scholarly weight or significance in the realm of these settled matters.

You may feel your perceptions are real.

Why do you even think that you should get your medical needs paid for by the taxpayers while preserving your estate for your children?

You can prove anything you want in the Bible…anything!

You can make anything up with the Bible as the basis. It’s an important part of politics, or was until I pulled the Bible card out of the Republican deck.

I thought one more missing card in a deck that was already light, would go unnoticed, and so far it has.

PROPERLY INTERPRETED:

As we said;

“The idea was that people with no income would have protection and families with assets could not hide them, and then place their relative in Medi-Cal for free health care.”

And:

“The claim against assets is marginal compared to the consequences of being uninsured. This is the point of the protection. It prevents the bankruptcy of the low-income population. If a person starts making more income, then Medi-Cal coverage stops when it exceeds a certain amount. This is the “mean-testing” threshold

“It is not a loan; it produces a creditors claim against real estate assets. It will be made up of accumulated premiums, co-pays, and deductibles for the claimant. It will not be for the whole of medical costs since it is really a county GROUP medical insurance plan.

The Medical credit is rarely for all the property, perhaps $150,000 when applicable.

Applicants are thoroughly informed of these conditions when applying for Medi-Cal aid. Rarely do they have real estate assets

FOOD INSECURITY MEANS HUNGER FROM SKIPPING MEALS

“Amid the cheerful back-to-school stories and pictures of happy schoolchildren comes sobering news about the state of hunger in America. A lengthy report can be condensed to the disappointing news that high rates of hunger and food insecurity continue unabated.

“Data released Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows the number of hungry people in America unchanged. An estimated 14.5 percent of American households were food insecure at least some time during the year in 2012, meaning they lacked access to enough food to lead active, healthy lives. The change from 14.9 percent in 2011 is not statistically significant.

“In Washington State, more than 160,000 families skip meals on a regular basis. At 6.1 percent of the population, this state’s hunger rate from 2010 through 2012 is about the same as the all-time high of 6.2 percent in 2009-2011. The nonprofit Children’s Alliance estimates that 400,000 children – about 1 in 4 – live in food-insecure households. A national comparison shows Washington ranked 15th among the 50 states in the number of families experiencing hunger, and 22nd in the number experiencing food insecurity.

It turns out the ‘Evil’ Koch Bros. are only the 59th biggest donors in American politics.

So who occupies the 58 spots ahead of the Evil Koch Bros? Six of the top 10 are … wait for it … unions. They gave more than $278 million, with most of it going to Democrats.

These are familiar names: AFSCME ($60.6 million), NEA ($53.5 million), IBEW ($44.4 million), UAW ($41.6 million), Carpenters & Joiners ($39.2 million) and SEIU ($38.3 million).

In other words, the six biggest union donors in American politics gave 15 times more to mostly Democrats than the Evil Koch Bros.

Estate Recovery (ER) Program

The Medi-Cal program pays for medical services and premiums, including payments to managed care plans, for people who are unable to pay for their own care.

Upon death, the decedent’s estate or any recipient of the decedent’s estate may have to pay the costs of care back under federal and state law.

Repayment will come from the assets of the deceased Medi-Cal beneficiary and will not exceed the asset value. Specific limitations or exemptions(PDF) may apply. The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) may waive its claim if payment of the claim would cause a substantial hardship.

Any request for a substantial hardship waiver must be submitted to DHCS within 60 days of the date on the DHCS Estate Recovery claim letter.

It amazes me to watch Fox News coverage on Bergdahl being a traitor and deserter. Wasn’t it just a few weeks ago Fox sided with the Nevada rancher on his anti-government stand, supporting a militia showing up with guns pointed on federal officers who had served in our military. Palin posted a map that had gun sites positioned on United States congress members districts….not many months later Gabby Gifford gets shot in the head. Palin and Cruz were recently protesting in front of the White House with Tea Party members waving a confederate flag, but now she is grand standing that Bergdahl said “I’m-ashamed-to-be-American? Why not tell the reason Bergdahl said those remarks? I guess if its because he didn’t approve of Afghanistan children being run down by armored cars it isn’t revelant. They are shocked Bergdahl’s father wore is hair like the Taliban in an effort to show tolerance to get his son home….but as John Stewart pointed out, if they handed him a scarf and a duck it would be ok.

533 The Republican Party June 5, 2014 at 8:53 PM

Fascism has become the core of the GOP psyche. The profit of greed and corruption has poisoned the entire system of democracy in America. Their ideals are driven by supremest leanings and are not suitable to have control of a multicultural Nation.

The scandal began as an operation to free the seven American hostages being held in Lebanon by a group with Iranian ties connected to the Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution. It was planned that Israel would ship weapons to Iran, and then the United States would resupply Israel and receive the Israeli payment. The Iranian recipients promised to do everything in their power to achieve the release of the U.S. hostages. The plan deteriorated into an arms-for-hostages sc heme, in which members of the executive branch sold weapons to Iran in exchange for the release of the American hostages.Large modifications to the plan were devised by Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North of the National Security Council in late 1985, in which a portion of the proceeds from the weapon sales was diverted to fund anti-Sandinista and anti-communist rebels, or Contras, in Nicaragua

The Disgraceful Episode Of Lysenkoism Brings Us Global Warming Theory

“Lysenko was consequently embraced and lionized by the Soviet media propaganda machine. Scientists who promoted Lysenkoism with faked data and destroyed counterevidence were favored with government funding and official recognition and award. Lysenko and his followers and media acolytes responded to critics by impugning their motives, and denouncing them as bourgeois fascists resisting the advance of the new modern Marxism.
The V.I. Lenin Academy of Agricultural Sciences announced on August 7, 1948 that thenceforth Lysenkoism would be taught as the only correct theory. All Soviet scientists were required to denounce any work that contradicted Lysenkoism. Ultimately, Soviet geneticists resisting Lysenkoism were imprisoned and even executed. ”

sound familiar?

“This same practice of Lysenkoism has long been under way in western science in regard to the politically correct theory of man caused, catastrophic, global warming. That theory serves the political fashions of the day in promoting vastly increased government powers and control over the private economy. Advocates of the theory are lionized in the dominant Democrat party controlled media in the U.S., and in leftist controlled media in other countries. Critics of the theory are denounced as “deniers,” and even still bourgeois fascists, with their motives impugned.

Those who promote the theory are favored with billions from government grants and neo-Marxist environmentalist largesse, and official recognition and award. Faked and tampered data and evidence has arisen in favor of the politically correct theory. Is not man-caused, catastrophic global warming now the only theory allowed to be taught in schools in the West?”

“31,487 U.S. scientists (including 9,000 Ph.Ds) with degrees in atmospheric Earth sciences, physics, chemistry, biology and computer science have signed a statement that reads: “There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing, or will in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate.”

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Peace/2014/06/05/Afghan-Villagers-Alarmed-at-Release-of-High-Level-Taliban-in-Bergdahl-Trade

A 74-year old Afghan farmer, said of Mohammed Fazl, an infamous Taliban military leader now set free in exchange for Bowe Bergdahl. “If he is released, he will burn our houses again because he doesn’t shake hands with the government.”

He echoes the sentiments of many villagers in Afghanistan who fear the violence they may once again face when the five men released in exchange for Sergeant Bergdahl return to Afghanistan.

All five men are believed to have committed atrocities in Afghanistan. They will be contained within Qatar for one year, and then set free.

Afghan villagers also questioned whether Bergdahl was lost or deliberately seeking the Taliban. “The villagers tried to give him water and bread, but he didn’t take it… we think he probably was high after smoking hashish,” said Ibrahim Manikhel, an Afghan district intelligence chief.

Some of our own veterans of the landings at Omaha and other beaches are attending the ceremonies. They are clustered around the age of 90. A few months back Sen McCain supported a prisoner exchange. Now that it is done, he is against it. This is typical GOP politics. Republicans will find fault with anything and everything that Obama does. I fear for the future of this country if our present political climate does not improve and I largely blame the Republican propaganda machine which includes Fox News and a rash of loudmouthed bloviators like Hannity, Palin and others who continually voice opinion pretending to be fact. Both sides must share the blame in this but the GOP has taken it to new lows. Congress’ approval rating is somewhere around 12% and this reflects Americans’ disgust with today’s political climate. The lunatic fringe is tripping over itself condemning the prisoner exchange even though all of the facts are not known. An adult and reasonable approach would be to wait for the “full story” before mounting a massive hate campaign against Obama but, no, the GOP hypocrites (like McCain) must grab a microphone and get in front of a TV camera.

Anon Redux #565 post relies on alleged and unconfirmed information from a 74 year old Afghan in its argument condemning the prisoner exchange. Isn’t this the same kind of stupidity that got us into a useless war with Iraq? Bush, and the liar Cheney cooked up the rationale for attacking Iraq based upon the information received from a single Iraqi source while conveniently ignoring the extensive and verifiable from the UN saying that no WMD were found during numerous searches across the country.

571 Anon June 6, 2014 at 9:03 AM

572 @Aspirin #569 June 6, 2014 at 9:15 AM

How many Democrats were in favor of the Iraq war before they were against it? When did Democrats ever have anything nice to say about Bush during his second term? What you’re accusing Republicans of doing is exactly what Democrats were doing before their Golden Boy took office. Don’t even say this is typical GOP politics.

573 Aspirin June 6, 2014 at 9:18 AM

Actually, Jon Stewart is the most reliable critic of Republican stupidity on subjects ranging from religion to science, education, and the social sciences. The GOP seems to pride itself on its mental stagnation and it seems to be blind to the fact that it cannot appeal to the young, the educated, and the intelligent. More people are aligning themselves with the Independent Party and for good reason: The GOP is the Party of fear and ignorance and the Democrats cannot seem to unify around many issues.

Koch attempts to prove Austrian Aryan Economic theories are superior to all economics for their simplicity, required the accumulation of great reputations, who might have proven the thesis.

Failing to produce such definitive proof, and having failed the Chicago School, the several crushed careers were converted to producing hysterical articles of sloppy thinking, and rhetorical ramblings only fit for “Supermen”.

George Mason University and Heritage Foundation Stink Tanks are not reputable sources of policy unless the uneducated are in office.

Chairwoman Yellen and students like me have standards of proof.

– We collected samples and were careful not to contaminate the data.
– We formed the hypothesis and then tested it for validity against empirical evidence.
– We rejected any hypothesis that could not be sustained by our scientific research.
– We accepted a proven thesis and then had the experiment repeated by someone else to verify the procedure.

We did not make stuff up.
We did not fake the data to publish a false statement
We did not make a fake statement and the make up the data.

looks like ShallowBrain/PhanDumbAndDumber are out there attacking scholars and world renowed scientists, declaring them wrong … because ShallowBrain and PhanDumbAndDumber’s OPINIONS on the subjects disagree with the scientist’s findings.

ahhhh yes. The man who coined the term “computational analysis” and headed the Navy’s first computer center was wrong, and the “Hockey Stick” garbage is true. Why? Because ShallowBrain and PhanDumbAndDumber don’t like the conclusions.

Th man who shows you pictures of the coastline of the Maldives, with coral strata hind him showing the sea level has been 2 meters HIGHER in the past, is discounted because he has also studied bowsing (water witching. Of course that makes his photos fake, right?

And a man writing for Forbes explains the tragedy that was Lysenko, how Stalin forced acceptance of Lysenko’s fake science as the only true science, and purged anyone who mentioned genetics … either to the Gulags or execution. Politically forced consensus andcompliance.

The result was that all Stalin’s agriculture failed, and the people starved, while the rest of the world’s crops flourished.
That isn’t opinion, that is history.

But hey, how dare someone point out that the same political pressure is being applied now in the field of climate science!

WhNote they are trying to discredit Williams, an economist whose work has been extensively peer reviewed and approved, claiming that – in their own amateur experience – the peer reviewers and Williams didn’t perform their sampling correctly!

What they really mean is that Williams is Black, and Conservative, thus wrong.

In their EXPERT opinion, that is ;)

596 Dennis June 6, 2014 at 5:22 PM

@ShallowBrain
” I pointed out the fact that you made an invalid comparison, comparing the US to Colombia, etc, instead of other OECD countries. ”

You mean I refuse to pre-select data to fit your conclusions? I don’t just choose countries YOU think will support your claims? Why should I exclude Mexico or Colombia? Isn’t the issue a comparison of countries that HAVE gun control v. the USA, to determine if gun control CAUSES lower crime? If true, it shouldn’t matter what country you choose, if it has gun control, the violence should be lower (if your claim is accurate).

But just for the record, I am pointing out that in most countries, violence is almost entirely confined to big cities, and due to the ethnic gangs within those cities. Because of that, gun control (or lack thereof) has NO effect on violence, because it has NO effect on big city gangs.

I offer 2 examples..

First is the USA v. good old safe Netherlands. Addicts and criminals are not allowed to have guns … just like the USA.

“The FBI’s Uniform Crime Reports for 2001 indicate the violent crime rate in the US was

504.4 per 100,000 inhabitants, while property crime ran at
3656.1 per 100,000 inhabitants.

The Dutch Central Bureau for Statistics for 2001 indicate Netherlands has
625.4 violent crimes per 100,000 people and
5684.4 property crimes.

Or, to put it differently, the
violent crime rate in the Netherlands in 24% higher than in the US,
and the property crime rate is 55% higher.”

(Amsterdam rates are double the rest of the country.
The Dutch blame that on the 7,000 addicts, whose only
income is crime and welfare, and who account for 80%
of the crime).”

Second example is Birmingham, England. You know, good old safe England? full gun ban?

“The Burger Bar Boys are a Black gang from the inner areas of Birmingham (Handsworth, Winson Green, Moseley, Smethwick, Small Heath, Aston, Bordesley Green and Lozells). They are known for their gun crime and drug dealing. Their biggest rivals are another Black gang, the Johnson Crew, as well as various Asian gangs, such as the Lynx Gang and the Muslim Birmingham Panthers.

Subdivisions of the Burger Bar Boys include the Handsworth Town Crooks (HTC), the Blood Brothers, Real Man Dem (RMD), the Ghetto Hustla Boys (GHB), and the Raleigh Close Crew (RCC). These crews are recognised by wearing red bandanas or a red t-shirt or jacket. Another group, the Small Heath Mans (SHM), wear the same things but in purple.

One of the larger and more notorious subdivisions of the Burger Bar Boys is Birmingham’s Most Wanted (BMW), who wear green bandanas and t-shirts. They are well known for their phrase, “Stay Mean, Stay Green,” and some members have tattoos which sport this logo. This gang has been responsible for many power struggles within the Burger Bar Boys, and some members have been known to have defected to their biggest rivals, the Johnson Crew.

The Burger Bar Boys became well known after a gunfight with the Johnson Crew left two girls, 17 year old Letisha Shakespeare and 18 year old Charlene Ellis, dead, on the 2nd of January 2003. The attack took place for the retribution of the murder of a Burger Bar gang member, Yohanne Martin, a month earlier.”

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=burger%20bar%20boys

my original statement is still valid: countries that don’t have ethnic gangs in the big cities don’t have violence. Those that do, do. Gun Laws have no effect on those criminal elements, regardless of the country.

Conclusion: it is the elimination of ethnic gangs/criminals that reduces violent crime, not the imposition of gun control laws.

599 Dennis June 6, 2014 at 5:49 PM

consensus = general agreement.

31000 disagreeing certainly doesn’t support the claim of “consensus”.

But it does show that politically forced consensus … just like Stalin did for Lysenko … is alive and well in the USA.

“Why should I exclude Mexico or Colombia?”

Well, for starters, there is THE STANDARD OF LIVING.

I wouldn’t expect someone who believed there were 14000 US military deaths under Clinton to understand.

“But just for the record, I am pointing out that in most countries, violence is almost entirely confined to big cities, and due to the ethnic gangs within those cities. Because of that, gun control (or lack thereof) has NO effect on violence, because it has NO effect on big city gangs.”

Yes…violent crime tends to happen in more densely populated areas. This is why I brought up population densities in the past. The Western European city with the highest homicide rate was still lower than the homicide rates in the US and many States, in spite of being more densely populated.

“my original statement is still valid: countries that don’t have ethnic gangs in the big cities don’t have violence. Those that do, do. Gun Laws have no effect on those criminal elements, regardless of the country.”

European countries have gangs… http://euc.sagepub.com/content/3/4/413.abstract

http://www.skepticalscience.com/OISM-Petition-Project.htm

“32,000 Sounds Like A Lot
In fact, OISM signatories represent a tiny fraction (~0.3%) of all US science graduates (petition cards were only sent to individuals within the U.S)

According to figures from the US Department of Education Digest of Education Statistics: 2008, 10.6 million science graduates have gained qualifications consistent with the OISM polling criteria since the 1970-71 school year. 32,000 out of 10 million is not a very compelling figure, but a tiny minority – approximately 0.3 per cent.

There are many issues casting doubt on the validity of this petition. On investigation, attempts to undermine the scientific consensus on climate change often appear to have ideological roots, vested business interests or political sponsors. The claims made for the OISM petition do not withstand objective scrutiny, and the assertions made in the petition are not supported by evidence, data or scientific research.

Several studies conducted independently (Oreskes 2004, Oreskes 2007, Doran and Zimmerman (2009), Anderegg et al. (2010), Cook et. al., 2013) have shown that 97% of climate scientists agree that humans are causing the climate to change, and that anthropogenic greenhouse gases are causing global changes to the climate. These views form the scientific consensus on climate change.”

Wow… .3%. That’s amazing!

616 John McCain Confession June 8, 2014 at 7:09 PM

John McCain is all in a lather about the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl this week. The US government negotiated with the aid of a neutral country (Qatar) to gain Bergdahl’s freedom from his Taliban captors. And the Senator thinks this is a terrible thing, very terrible indeed.

How quickly we forget: the Paris peace talks were political negotiations with the enemy that secured the release of John McCain from his Viet Cong captors. Just like happened with Bergdahl.

McCain was held for over five years. Bergdahl for just under five years.

McCain’s health was wrecked during his captivity. So was Bergdahl’s.

Lots of people questioned the war that McCain fought in. Just like they did the war Bergdahl fought in.

The similarities are overwhelming, aren’t they? But McCain isn’t decrying his own release from the wartime hellhole he endured; he’s just objecting to somebody else getting the same benefits he got from government negotiations. A sincere man would realize that both soldiers deserve the same efforts from their g9vernment.
