Walnut Creek Police Arrest Two Suspects in Connection with Purse Snatching on May 9th

May 15, 2014 · 24 comments

As we first reported last week, on May 9th at approximately 10:44 in the morning, a woman in Walnut Creek walking westbound on Olympic Blvd near S. Main St. had her purse snatched. The suspect (Hispanic Male Adult in his 20’s) grabbed the woman’s purse and fled into the Plaza Escuela East parking garage and then fled in a white pick-up truck, police said. There were two other Hispanic males in the vehicle.

Yesterday, Detectives from the Walnut Creek Police Department served two search warrants in Pittsburg related to this investigation. The Pittsburg Police Department assisted with the service of the warrants.

Two 17 year old juveniles were arrested in connection with the case. Both were arrested in Pittsburg and booked into Juvenile Hall. One was arrested for felony grand theft from a person and conspiracy. The second juvenile was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon and grand theft from a person.

The descriptions provided by witnesses after this incident were invaluable in helping to identify the suspects, police said.

A purse was snatched in Park n Shop where the female victim was dragged. Incident took place in front of quickley’s restaurant at 10:10pm. Same MO, two hispanic males approximately 18-20, wearing dark clothing. No words exchanged, simple grab and run. So if these are connected, there are more suspects than there are in custody.

A civilized society could never exist, without the constant vigilance and strong arm of law and order.

Kudos on the good police work.

Let’s see if our “justice” system follows through with long sentences, or if we get the usual catch and release.

I was witness to attempted purse snatching in Walnut Creek in front of the Yacht Club may 2nd and the kid was African American and sped off in a white truck and it was early evening and no one seemed to get a good look at him or help until they got away because we were all in shock that this was happening in walnut creek.
Crazy. Don’t trust anyone!

This is what happens when people grow up poor and hungry: they get desperate.

Do you honestly believe they committed the crime because they’re Mexican or because they’re poor and grew up with thugs as role models? I’m Mexican American and grew up in Walnut Creek: you would never catch me robbing people. I’m offended that you would lump me in with these thieves.

Wow, fast work. Thank you WPD. I am glad that these thugs have been caught and I do hope they will get some help and not choose a life of crime. Whether someone is rich or poor is no excuse for committing crime and hurting others. Crime is the easy way out. Thugs go and find an easy target rather than finding a way to earn their bread honestly. There is no excuse for being a criminal except for laziness and cold heartedness.

Remember that it was the good eye-witnesses that led to the arrest of these delinquents. We all have to look out for each other. p.s. from Rick, a Mexican from Pittsburg.

Glad the victim is ok and was able to help catch the kids responsible. Seeing how they will only get a slap on the wrist from our court system, I hope their parents get control before they end up doing something even worse.

Elizabeth @#2 HUH? Sounds like you got your little feelings hurt because no one patted you on the back for exposing this story? Is that what you are trying to say? Well consider your back patted….geez

#15 Thanks for being sensible.

Every time I visit the Claycord comments section I’m reminded of how many bigots live in our town.

Justin, I encourage you to move to an area where you can be with more of your “urban culture” types. Im waiting…
LOL!!!

Apparently, Justin doesnt like intellectual honesty. Without viable arguments or counterpoints, he resorts to trite and cliche insults. Typical of the lefty mindset.

great job by witnesses & WCPD.

Alex#15&Justin#19- Blaming “poverty” alone doesn’t fully explain why juveniles and adult “lifers” from all over swoop Walnut Creek. I suggest the following influences:
1- Poor parenting/lack of father figure
2- Glorification of the “homey” lifestyle
3- Lack of intelligence/poor school performance
4- Gang affiliations
5- Light prison sentencing
6- Ethnic coddling/political correctness
7- Section 8 housing imported to suburban areas
8- Lack of employment oppurtunities

When those negative attributes collide with the upscale shopper in a city with good freeway access, you will have these sorts of crimes. The disturbing part is the growth of crime rates locally.
