Walnut Creek Police arrested a suspect on Wednesday night after the robbery of a woman in Broadway Plaza.

The following information is from the Walnut Creek Police Dept.:

On Wednesday just before 10pm, a woman was walking through the breeze way at Broadway Plaza when a black male wearing a bright orange jacket, white t-shirt and blue jeans walked up from behind her and attempted to grab her cell phone from her hand. When the victim resisted this attempt, the suspect kicked and hit the victim and pulled her to the ground as he continued to grab at her phone. The victim then began screaming, which alerted other shoppers and prompted the suspect to run away.

WCPD officers responded to the area and began searching for the suspect, who was last seen running south through Broadway Plaza towards Newell Avenue. Several minutes later, police units contacted a possible suspect on Newell Avenue across from Broadway Plaza.

The subject was subsequently identified by the victim and another witness as being the attempt robbery suspect and he was taken into custody. The juvenile suspect was transported to Juvenile Hall in Martinez and booked on the above charge. An orange jacket was later recovered near Main/Broadway Plaza which matched the description given by the victim.

The victim sustained a minor scrape to her elbow during the robbery and the investigation continues. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Walnut Creek Police Department at (925) 943-5844.

Note to criminal:
Try not to stand out too much when you commit your crimes.

Thank you WCPD! These are definitely criminals you want off the street. What a total lack of a conscience…kicking and hitting a woman over a cell phone, these brazen thugs will come to a bad end.

Note to future victims:
do not be out by yourself @ 10 PM
Black males in Orange jackets are potential perps

About is not racist – just fact based in Walnut Creek (deal with the reality of it all)

way to go WCPD lock up the crook and throw the key away

6 Actually, the muggger was in conformance to State Hunting Regulations May 15, 2014 at 10:12 AM

regarding the Bright Orange jacket. Perhaps he will soon have a complete orange wardrobe, complete with drop-seat pants.

10:00 PM and walking around alone talking on your cell phone?
Not too bright. Stay off the phone while walking and be aware of your surroundings, at all times.

#4 ANON:

“Black males in Orange jackets are potential perps”

You are a racist. Being black does not make you a suspect. Wow, you would think we live in Alabama which such backward views here.

LOL!!!

14 MrDuckyWucky May 15, 2014 at 11:51 AM

mayor,
just wondering…can you get the info on the mugger’s home city? I’m wondering about the thieves in w.c. and if they are locals or where they are coming in from.

#Down and Out & #Anonymous: It’s not a crime to make a comment that everyone is thinking. It’s SO easy to be dismissed as “being a racist” and it’s called FREE SPEECH. Keep perpetuating the notion that black is “victim” and white is “racist”. President Obama was elected by the majority therefore GET OVER IT!!!

17 anon May 15, 2014 at 12:12 PM

were the jeans around his waste or were they the ‘crapped in the pants’ look? Can’t run very well with the crapped in the pants look. but then hey style is everything

@anon, I believe he was from Fairfield.

19 MrDuckyWucky May 15, 2014 at 12:31 PM

so typical.

@ jennireality- We have a President who is biracial. What does that have to do with a robber in WC? Does that mean racism is gone? It is obvious by the comments that is isn’t. Crime happens everywhere by all races or we wouldn’t need police. Get over yourself!

21 MrDuckyWucky May 15, 2014 at 1:18 PM

@down and out, #22: boo hoo, did we offend you?
LOL!!!

Juvenile at 10PM in Broadway Plaza from Fairfield, did they recover the stolen car yet?

24 PO'd May 15, 2014 at 1:50 PM

I’m trying to figure out who is the stupid one-the perp wearing a prison orange color jacket to commit a violent felony in public or Jeninreality who wants drag the leader of the free world into the fray. It’s a tossup.
Jeninreality- Is it true that if the President had a son, he would look like the perp?
This young man will be in and out of prison from now until he pisses off the wrong guy and gets wacked. Its the same ol’ boogaloo over and over and over….You might say it’s a cultural tradition.
In case you haven’t figured it out,Walnut Creek has become a target because of it’s shopping centers and it’s demographics. You see criminals coming from Fairfield,Oakland,Richmond,Antioch,Concord etc for the easy score. Hopefully the new police hires will help.
My guess is that he had help, or WC has an extra car parked somewhere.
Get the cell phone out of your ear-smart phones are the #1 article stolen by those from the hood-it’s prestige there.
Good Luck shopping there.

Time to block off the Martinez bridge and keep all that ghetto Farifield trash from coming to our neighborhoods!

26 T Bone May 15, 2014 at 2:09 PM

PO’d #26 – you described Walnut Creek about 20 years ago….these days Walnut Creek is nowhere near as nice as it used to be and is now considered very average (if that). Most of the people there now are wannabe’s and don’t have any money. But the low life theives haven’t caught onto that yet. haha

27 Silva May 15, 2014 at 2:36 PM

So for those of you who don’t get the very noticeable colors while mugging; what you do is get witnesses distracted by your unmistakable garb, then shed it as you flee. I’m from Oakland.

28 Super Cat May 15, 2014 at 3:36 PM

@94598 HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Glad they got him. It’s a shame but be careful out there. Keep your phones put away and enjoy life. (I need to be better at that myself…)
