Walnut Creek Police arrested a suspect on Wednesday night after the robbery of a woman in Broadway Plaza.
The following information is from the Walnut Creek Police Dept.:
On Wednesday just before 10pm, a woman was walking through the breeze way at Broadway Plaza when a black male wearing a bright orange jacket, white t-shirt and blue jeans walked up from behind her and attempted to grab her cell phone from her hand. When the victim resisted this attempt, the suspect kicked and hit the victim and pulled her to the ground as he continued to grab at her phone. The victim then began screaming, which alerted other shoppers and prompted the suspect to run away.
WCPD officers responded to the area and began searching for the suspect, who was last seen running south through Broadway Plaza towards Newell Avenue. Several minutes later, police units contacted a possible suspect on Newell Avenue across from Broadway Plaza.
The subject was subsequently identified by the victim and another witness as being the attempt robbery suspect and he was taken into custody. The juvenile suspect was transported to Juvenile Hall in Martinez and booked on the above charge. An orange jacket was later recovered near Main/Broadway Plaza which matched the description given by the victim.
The victim sustained a minor scrape to her elbow during the robbery and the investigation continues. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Walnut Creek Police Department at (925) 943-5844.
